Start Early for Tax Season

Business owners are you getting ready for tax season? Believe it or not, it's not too early to start putting your financial records in order. In fact, wise business owners understand that waiting until year end to gather receipts for bookkeeping can be very costly in terms of accounting fees, late tax filing fees, penalties, and worse, missed tax deductions. If you have not been keeping good records throughout the year, now is the time to get your books in order. Set aside some time each weekend over the next month to get caught up. Or, if the idea of recording hundreds of receipts sounds worse than having a tooth pulled send them out to your bookkeeper. This way you still have time before December 31 to ask questions that will help you save money and minimize income taxes.Remember that building a lasting and profitable business requires you to be a good steward over your time, talent, and resources.Have tax questions or need accounting software? If you're not sure where to start, sign up for my newsletter for advice on running a profitable business. You can also e-mail me to request a FREE copy of Quickbooks software to help you keep track of the finances in your business. I'd be happy to send one out to you.Blessings and success,Benita Tyler, MBAAccountant and QuickBooks Consultantwww.tbsusa.com

STARTING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS

STARTING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSHere Are The Simple Steps:In general, once you decide on the type of business you want and you know there is a demand for the product you sell or the service you provide, it is very simple...1.Decide on your business structure (sole proprietor, partnership, corporation, LLC, etc.)2.Prepare a Business Plan, at least an outline of what you plan to accomplish with your business.3.Register your Business Name4.Obtain your Business Tax Ids5.Obtain the required licenses. You will most likely need licenses to operate your business.6.Open a bank account7.Start making moneyBefore we make it any more complicated than it already is, keep in mind that if you already have customers - YOU ARE ALREADY IN BUSINESS. Then realize that it's easy to be successful. Ok. Nothing is really easy in this life but neither is it very hard to start a business and be successful in it. In general, to be successful in starting a business, you need to understand your type of business. Here are the basics:1.Equipment: What do you need to run the business? Example: A hamburger stand needs at least a grill, a storefront, tables and chairs.2.Supplies: This will vary with each business but it should not be hard to buy and store your supplies.3.Staff: What type of workers do you need to run the business? Example: A restaurant needs at least a cook.4.Expenses: How much is it going to cost me to run the business? Electricity, rent, payroll, etc.5.Clients: How am I going to make money? Find out who your customers are and find a way to attract them - advertise. Then, buy your equipment and supplies, select your workers, figure out your expenses, and know your clients and the competition.6.Competition: Don't worry too much about the competition, just provide a product in demand, guarantee it, price it reasonably and competitively, and provide the best service you can. Finally, learn how to manage people, reward them for their work, network, network, network, and start making money! You WILL be successful! Stating the obvious: We are in a declining economy. The health of this economy and it prognosis is poor. Of course with new governmental leadership euphorically pervading our minds, the economic woes afflicting us seems like the new leadership are Emergency Room Physicians and Triage healthcare workers whose only goal is to stabilize the situation. This occurrence is the system of real-time emergency room healthcare and it is the standard of healthcare--to stabilize the patient. With the credentials of our new leadership, the traumatic accident is staved, but along with that comes a cacophony of being in the intensive care unit (ICU), rehabilitation treatments, physical therapy and recovery. Additionally, the lifestyle changes and caregiver support systems are required to uplift this economy to functionality with a quality of life.It seems as if there was a physical "risk assessment" on the economy (the patient) long ago, but the patient consciously decided to not adhere to the directives made by the primary care provider. Unfortunately, the economy contracted a non-invasive, benign, and treatable cancer. The patient entered a course of chemotherapeutics, but choose not to adhere to the full regimen of treatment. Then as the patient aged, the cancer metastasized (spread), an started showing symptoms of cardiovascular disease, particularly atherosclerosis (due to increased bad cholesterol). Immediately, the economy was treated with statins along with the therapeutics and was told to make lifestyle adjustments. However, as before, non-adherence to the regimen occurred and the economy chose to pursue a quick and easy course of treatment that was not peer reviewed by clinical trials. Then the economy underwent a cerebrocardiovascular accident with congestive heart, kidney and lung failure--a meltdown--along with a more aggressive and pervasive cancer (Greed) and our patient now shows up into the ER. The ER physicians were unclear what medications and treatments where administered or ingested because the medical records are incomplete and the patient's complaints are incoherent. The medical history of this patient is missing and the prognosis seems grim at this time. Moreover, this patient requires several specialists, which insurance coverages is lacking. There is a silver lining--at least the patient was seen by ER physicians and is still alive albeit in critical condition. Blessings that at least we have that, yet we have to have the patience of the Job as our economy specialists and experts tirelessly operate. What is interesting about this case is that ONLY the body has been "stabilized" in this patient. Healthcare providers might argue that the unregulated business practices tanked this economy... While business entities claim sky-rocketing healthcare costs and health illiteracy caused the downfall of the economy...Yet, something tells me that we have divorced ourselves from the idea that maybe we need to redirect our focus to a healing economy--particularly a holistic healing economy--not just that of the body, but of the mind and spirit. The adage that business is only worth doing if it is good enough to make money deserves an evolved and enlightened response, because supporting business for only profit seems to me as a toxic dump that requires waste management or it will develop as a foul odor. After we have gotten the patient out of critical care ICU and into Rehab/Physical Therapy and Recovery, we need to reinvent the basics of lifestyle changes in living with chronic conditions, particular that of greed despite others (the cancer) and anger, mental stress, aggression and pain (the cerebrocardiovascular disease with concomitant organ failure). Inherently we treat the embodiments of the spirit and the mind when we treat these two conditions that have pervaded the economy to have a more holistic healing economy. The upfront costs seem steep, but if lifestyle changes to a holistic healing economy are not followed, then the accidental costs are exorbitant...Greed is a human condition. In America we live in a disposable and instant gratification society. "Mother Necessity" drives the passion and it has gotten us far. Yet we have neglected our introspective history as to how we arrived to this place. Moreover we have chosen to be untempered in our decisions. It is likened to a crack addict that leads to self-destruction. Greed is a result of impulsive ambition. When the economy lulls, ambition is needed, in fact encouraged. However, during economic crisis, fear sets in and the pathological symptoms of greed replaces ambition. When the pathological environment is rife with greed, the checks and balances are unstable. The balance to greed is Generosity--giving of oneself in service for a greater cause to those less able to give...Anger, mental stress, aggression and pain is a motive force. We use anger physiologically in the fight/flight response as a survival tactic. Long ago, our ancestors lived in caves and were predated, we use our anger to protect ourselves. The other greatest gifts we had at that time was controlling and bridling that anger. Anger gave us power to act--thoughtfully... Since human brains have remarkable memory, we evolved empirically (trial and error) to either fight or take flight from our predators. Our ancestors strength was to recall our efforts as to how to combat or take exit paths leading to our survival. The downside to anger is that this emotion is addictive and highly intoxicating--it provides us an exhilarating amount of energy (albeit short-lived) to the point we feel invincible --indestructible, irreplaceable--a pious delusion of grandeur. Uncontrolled anger fools us into thinking we are gods, which inevitably the Spiritual Universe destabilizes our arrogance..."To whom the gods wish to destroy, they must first make them angry..."~Roman ProverbIn America, we live in a society that exhausts our nonrenewable energy resource, unbridled anger (rage) to drive inappropriate behaviors manifested as crimes. Rage has been well documented to cause mental stress, aggression and pain. When enraged, a host of physiological and molecular responses are recorded that lead to chronic stressors, namely that of physical pain in back, neck, sexual dysfunction, heart damage, stroke, etc. Rage can lead to hate and destroy everything in its wake. Nothing renews or grows after rage and hate destroys. Life is all its vibrancy becomes extinct. To bridle that rage is to respond in loving-kindness so that a soothing peace and serenity quiets to hurt and pain. Conscious attention is brought to the forefront by mindfully tapping into the spiritual centers either by prayer/salutation/invocation/meditation. Conscious focus is a nonreactive, buffer readily accessed by breath. That was the only medical treatment our ancestors had to temper anger. Controlled anger can provide a powerful tool in business to bring about passion to change and to act on a major insurmountable challenge. And we can achieve a better work in a new Age and Era of transition with this tool. And this tool has to be controlled. However, uncontrolled rage leads to our chronically ill economy. In business we use the motive forces, ambition and anger to survive declining economies. However, we are only using discordant pieces of mind, body or spirit. All 3 pieces are needed in harmony, like a highly stylized dance, a symphony, a delicious meal, a floral arrangement or sporting activity. To use all 3 powers: mind, body and spirit requires formal practices.Business drives how we connect and interact with one another, Universally--mind, body and spirit. In American society, we can no longer afford business tactics to be solely based on profit. We need to have a soul in business grounded in community service for our customer base.A healing business enriches love and joy made visible by human pursuits of happiness; help to integrate contact with one another through healing, balance and serenity; it is a permanent human bond presented in an original product/service; serves as a meditation for life's purpose.Civic engagement is a healing business; a path to encompass a healing energy for prosperity.Nameste'Dr. Gina M.-S.Research ScientistAriafya LLC: Mental Zeal for Spirit & Well-BeingFounding Member and PresidentThe aforementioned blog are professional opinions solely expressed as my own without professional peer review and are not intended for the use or practice of any business or medical treatment.

How to build your own website (Post 1)

Greetings!Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.Talent alone will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.Genius alone will not; unregarded genius is almost a proverb.Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.- Calvin CoolidgePresident Coolidge spoke of persistence then, and it is still the most important to the character of success.Run and go get it persistence applies to bringing traffic to (your moneymaker), your website. Google your name, then your business name, then try a combination of both. If you do not appear on the first page, it is time to go to work. This is a journey, not a walk to the neighbors house. Understanding how search engines like Google rank websites is the first step to insure you have what Google crawlers are scavenging for. A crawler is a software/bot that crawls up and down your websites meta tags and codes gathering intel on your site. If you were interviewing for a job, you would go to the interview correct, there is nothing different presenting your site for interview withto a Goggle crawler. Your quality of life depends on it, just as you getting that job. I will spend several days on this subject, the success of a site depends on the content, the words you use to gain ranking. For website traffic success, start doing your own independent research of how the search engines rank. Like G I Joe says, "Knowing is half the battle" Tomorrow I will share info about meta-tags and meta-descriptions. Google-bots just loooove those! Have a great day everyone.Lisa

Honolulu City Lights

Honolulu City Lights, one of the city’s most treasured Christmas traditions, began in 1985 with a single Christmas tree on the grounds of Honolulu Hale (City Hall). Over the years, the month-long event has grown considerably but it has always included as its focal point, a lighted 50-foot Christmas tree. The holiday tree connects lighted Christmas trees and buildings spread out over a “corridor of Christmas lights” through Chinatown, Downtown, the Capitol District and the Civic Center area.Opening night will be on the first Saturday in December and includes the popular Electric Light Parade, a star-studded holiday concert, decorated Christmas trees and wreaths in the courtyard of Honolulu Hale and the traditional lighting of the huge City Christmas tree.Opening Night ScheduleSaturday, December 6, 20086:00 p.m. Tree Lighting Ceremony & Electric Light Parade6:30 p.m. Tree/Wreath Displays7:30 p.m. Holiday Concert StartsThe Honolulu City Lights Christmas celebration is unique because of the giant holiday characters situated throughout the grounds of Honolulu Hale. In addition to the 21-foot-tall Shaka Santa, who sits cooling his toes in the City Hall fountain, there are other larger-than-life figures like the Snow Family that provide countless photo settings for families celebrating the holidays.www.TopLineVacations.comwww.TLTravelBiz.com800-763-1745

GREETING CARD ETTIQUETTE

When it comes to holiday business greeting cards, to send or not to send is the question. Once you have decided to send, you then have to determine who to include on your list, what kind of business greeting card to choose, and how to address the envelope.Business greeting cards can:enhance your current business relationshipsattract new customersremind old clients that you existshow appreciation to supportive clientsUse proper business greeting card etiquette. What is a well-meaning gesture can offend the people you want to impress when it is not done properly. The 8 Rules of Business Greeting Card Etiquette1. Buy Quality Cards: Start with a good quality business greeting card to show that you value your clients and colleagues. Skimping on your selection can be interpreted in a number of ways. Your recipients might take it as a sign that business has not been good or that they aren't worth a little investment.2. Update Your List: Make sure your list is up-to-date with correct names and addresses. If you do this on a regular basis, it does not become a dreaded holiday chore. As you gain new contacts throughout the year, take time to add them to your database for your business greeting card group. This way you won't embarrass yourself by sending the card to the old address.3. Sign Cards Personally: Even if you have preprinted information on the business greeting card such as your name, you need to add your handwritten signature. The most elegant business greeting cards should have your personal signature and a short handwritten message.4. Handwrite the Address: If you are ready to throw up your hands at this point and forget the whole project, then have someone else address the envelopes for you. Don't use computer-generated labels. They are impersonal and make your holiday wishes look like a mass mailing. You may save time and even money, but can lose a client in the process.5. Mail to Home Address: Mail your business greeting card to the home if you know the small business owner. Be sure to include the spouse's name. The card is not sent to both husband and wife at the business address unless they both work there.6. Use Titles: Whether you are addressing the envelope to an individual or a couple, titles should always be used. It's "Mr. John Doe," not "John Doe," or "Mr. and Mrs. John Doe, rather that "John and Mary Doe."7. Be Sensitive to Traditions: Find out whether your business greeting card recipients observe Christmas, Hanukah, or Kwanzaa. Make sure your message is appropriate for each individual. If you decide to go with one card, choose a generic one that will not offend. "Season's Greetings" and "Happy Holidays" are safe bets.8. Avoid the Mail Rush: Mail your business greeting cards in time to arrive for the designated holiday. If you find yourself addressing the envelopes on Super Bowl Sunday, keep the cards until next year and send out a high-quality note thanking people for their business during the previous year instead. To avoid the last minute greeting rush is to have all your envelopes addressed before Thanksgiving. Then during December you can leisurely write a short message - one or two lines are all that is necessary on each card, sign your name and have them in the mail with a minimum of hassle. You now have all the time in the world for the shopping, baking, decorating and celebrating that accompany the holiday season.Lydia Ramsey is a business etiquette expert, professional speaker, corporate trainer and author of "Manners That Sell - Adding the Polish That Builds Profits" For more information visit her web site www.mannersthatsell.com

My Mall

Hi,My name is Kay and I have a mall where you can shop and get paid. It is the holidays and I don't want anyone going broke. With the economy, I shop on my mall because it is cheaper and easier. I got a card just for my mall because sometimes, I do go crazy and forget I am shopping.I came across the power mall, http://www.mypowermall.com/biz/home/96348, when I was surfing the web for help with my organization at my college. We were trying to raise funds for a group of girls that lost there apartment off campus. They stayed down the street but a scholarship program choose certain people to stay in the complex at a reduced rate. The girls couldn't afford to stay on campus. So when I was searching, this link popped up and I joined the powermall. It was free to join and when I did, one of the girls that lost her apartment got one too. When I started shopping in the mall, I earned a rebate and 2% of my earnings went to an account set up by the school to help the girls. I didn't make much because I was focused on school still but I made enough to help them with their down payments. I decided to keep the mall and try it as a business. So far, it is doing great. I get paid to shop and everytime someone joins for free and shop, I get a rebate from them.It is very interesting. Try it. Unlike many out there, there is no catch and no fees. I love it.http://www.mypowermall.com/biz/home/96348http://supermstr.bizhttp;//myspace.com/kemyiajayhttp;//mskay.mindsay.com
