By Chuck CrawfordThere are a million reasons why your business needs to add a blog to it's website. Here are the five reasons I feel are most important.1.Content2.Customer interaction3.Branding4.Authority5.TrafficWebsite content: Content is king, I'm sure you've heard this catch phrase. It's plastered on every consulting site on the web. But it is true. Your website needs frequent additions of fresh, unique content for several different reasons. The search engines are looking for new content additions to your website, so when the search spiders find constant new content on your site, they often 'fall in love' with it. Coming back again and again. Taking you higher and higher in the search rankings.Customer interaction: Your customers and potential customers are looking at your and your company with a magnifying glass. They need assurance to buy your product or service. They need to know that they have a place to come after they've made their purchase for support.Having a blog that is current is a psychological soother to these would be buyers because they want to know that they have a place to come if they need help or have a problem. They want to see that you are available to them. A blog can give them that feeling they need to become a customer. It can help them make buying decisions.Branding: The more you write about your products and services on your business blog, the more you tie in your brand names with the proper keywords associated with whatever it is you sell. With a new company, or a lesser known company, most of your potential users do not search for your brand name. In order to change that, you need to associate the actual words they DO in fact search for with your company or brand name/names.As your company blog grows over time, more and more brand recognition comes to your company.Almost like magic.Authority: There are very few products or services sold on the internet that are competitor free. Your company most likely has competition, and you need to set yourself apart from the rest. By becoming the expert, your company consistently stands out from the crowd. One of the things I hear often from my new clients is that when they were searching for someone to handle their SEO, website design, or other services that we offer, my company and my name 'just kept popping up'... It's because I write a lot and my company blogs are all over the search engines for the services we provide.Having a corporate blog is one way you can set yourself apart from your competition. People generally want to deal with the very best in a given field or for a specific product or service. So BE the best. Be the authority.Traffic: Website traffic is a must. In order to survive, your company website needs visitors. It needs web traffic. Blog posting is one way to generate that much needed traffic. The more you blog, the more your site saturates the search engine result pages. The more your business saturates the SERP's the more traffic your site receives. The more traffic your website receives, the more sales your company makes. It's simple, cheap, and extremely effective.Like I said, there are a million other reasons your business website needs a blog and needs it now. You need an edge to compete on the internet today.A blog for your website is that edge your company needs.

Warfare

The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds (2 Corinthians 10:4). I was thinking of that scripture and started contemplating "warfare." Oftentimes we think of a full frontal attack when we hear war. We may imagine illness, financial troubles, death of a loved one or many other scenarios. Yet I think that the warfare is often more subtle, crafty, and insipid. Strong holds are a wall of thoughts. If our weapons were meant to destroy the physical attacks around us, why were they (weapons) designed to destroy thoughts? Perhaps it's not the attack itself, but how the attack affects our thinking. If we enter into warfare and lose a battle, do we begin to think differently about God? Any doubt will delay the manifestation of our promises from God, and if you were the enemy wouldn't you be trying to change our thinking about God? The warfare is battled in our mind.

Is your business safe from identity theft? The estimated cost of identity theft to consumers, banks, credit card firms, stores and other businesses is to 3 billion dollars. As businesses, they can no longer be without good businesspractices and strong safeguards with your customers' personal information and your own information as well. What can businesses do to prevent identity theft? It's important for all business to protect the personalinformation of their customers, business data and secure networks to avoid being a target.Having an alarm system will give you the ability to deter criminals of breaking into your business, keeping your datasafe from theft.Have a reliable alarm monitoring company who will assist you in your protection of your premises and assets.Have good locks installed secured windows and shattered proof glass.Store your paper documentation such as business records including customer data and financial data in locked filingsystems at all times.Store computerized back up data of all business information in a fire proof safe. Store a duplicate copy of back ups at a bank or contract with a business who specializes in protecting data storage.Business records of any kind should never be thrown in to the trash or recycling bin where they can become available to criminals by simply dumpster diving. It only takes a criminal little information to commit identity theft.Businesses that operate a home based business or small office can purchase an inexpensive shredder at any office supply store. Business with massive amount of paper can contract with a shredding service that will come directly to offices and shred the documentation at your location.Be very cautious with the mail, this is a common source for criminals who have identity theft as crime of choice. Anything that has your name, address on it should be shredded, especially invoices and bills.Solicitation phone calls can be a tremendous opportunity for identity theft. It can easy for someone to pretend to be acustomer or vendor over the phone. Whether it's someone who wants personal information on a particular customer, vendor or employee, do not give any information over the phone without knowing for certain the caller. In recent documentation provided by the Better Business Bureau, criminals have told police and FBI agencies how easy it is for them to get information from small businesses and personnel departments of large corporations by pretending to be someone they are not like a government agency, credit grantors or some other types of vendors. Criminals who are out to steal identities have come up with very professional and believable stories to get the information companies try to secure. So be very careful who you give information too. With the amount of data that is share on a network inside a business it would be easy for someone to commit identity theft. Creating password protection policies and evaluating who should have access to sensitive data will be vital to a successful and information safe environment.Remember to only share information to the appropriate people. Be cautious and help stop identity theft.

Help Me, Rhonda!

apron__2__medium.JPG

''Help Me Rhonda, I Can't Understand"That was the plea of one of my social networking contacts after comparing my photos of my Gardener's Apron with the photos published in Crochet World magazine. She really wanted to understand why the editor chose to use a photo of a "Suzy Homemaker"-ish model versus a "sexy granny" like me.I have to say that the black, female crafter is a greatly-ignored segment in this country. We are not marketed to, even though we have always been crafty folks since before we arrived on these shores. We have always been artisans who bead, weave, sew, mould, etc., but craft stores are usually not located in our neighborhoods (no matter what the neighborhood's economic makeup) nor are craft publications always stocked in our bookstores. Is it because we don't spend enough, or is it that we don't spend more because we are ignored and have to be more resourceful?Read what Real Hustla had to say about us designers who create "very hip, cute, funky" designs but who aren't acknowledged by the publishers and manufacturers.
