Building your Business the Right Way!

So you could ask, “What is the Right way”???You may even wonder why I am writing this. Well you could blame it on God. Whoa, did I just say blame it on God??? Yes I did. And this is why.I have always believed that God is the same Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. And you know what??? That is totally correct. Now bare with me, I will relate this to building your business, I promise.Sunday mornings message was about “I did it My Way” You know, like that song? Well, we all have thoughts like that from time to time. The trouble begins when that thinking, our thinking, goes against God’s thinking. And the Pastor went on to expound on the trials and turmoil that the people had to endure because they went against God’s wishes. Now this is the point I am trying to make. They had God’s specific instructions for what they wanted to do. They had asked and had gotten instructions. Specific Instructions. Remember that… Specific Instructions. But they wanted to do things, Their Way.So now we come to the point of this blog.We want to build a home based business to a level that suits us. But I fear that many of us are guilty of the same thought patterns the people in the bible had. We want to do it OUR WAY.So we put forth effort and give it time and spin our wheels then sit back and wonder why nothing is happening.Do we not realize that we have SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS on how to build our particular business? Have we not been told, over and over again, the number one thing to do first, is to see if there is even a market for what we want to do?Okay, so now we find that there is a market and we jump in with both feet only to find out that we can not swim the profitable current. Does our life vest have holes in it? Are we not kicking hard enough? No, we as swimming against the current. With each business come instructions from leaders who have been there. People who know what it is going to take to make a go of your business. Like God and His Word for correct living, the leaders in you business have instructions you need to follow to have a business worth doing and doing well.Do we listen to them? Are we on the phone lines and chat lines and reading the books and joining the seminars? Or are we insisting on doing it OUR WAY?The people in the bible said they would follow what ever instructions God told them. See Jeremiah 42:6. So the prophet Jeremiah, prayed and got the directions from the Lord. But when he conveyed the instructions to the people, they didn’t like what they heard so they didn’t obey.We may hear that we need to do something that is maybe out of our comfort zone. We may hear that we have to TALK to people. Oh no, not really talk to someone, do I really have to???Well, sure you do. How else are you going to let people know about you and your business? You have to grow a little. That means reading the books and listening to training calls from people who have been there. The people in the bible didn’t want to do things God’s way and insisted on doing things their way. The end result was destruction. They were over come by the enemy.I am here to tell you that by not following the advice of your leaders, you to will be over come by the enemy. The enemy is Status Quo. You will not go very far. You will not accomplish your goals and dreams and you will remain working harder than you have to with nothing to show for it.You have to put feet to your want to’s. You want this or that from your business. You have to act upon the principles and instructions from your up line. They have been there. They know what it takes to build and build big. They will not steer you wrong. Why would they?I encourage you to follow the footsteps of your up line. And if you have a mind to read Jeremiah. You will be amazed at the outcome you can have if you would just simply HEAR and DO what you have been instructed to do for the good of your business.Much Love,LenisaLenisa’s Personal Touch

Letter to BET

I’m Janita Patrick, a 15-year-old African-American female from Cincinnati. Recently, I watched the 2009 BET Awards and felt the strongest urge to reach out to the program. My family is of the typical middle-class variety; both parents and four brothers. See, I'm a junior in high school (got skipped), so naturally EVERYBODY in my age group watches BET. I'm used to seeing the sagging pants, tattoos, lack of emphasis on reading and respecting women that makes up your videos. People in my class live this out everyday, while teachers tell us that we're acting just like the people in your shows. In your shows. That struck me as odd, because I would think that with your show being the primary outlet for black entertainers and musicians, and considering the context of blacks in this country, there’s a social responsibility factor to consider. I would never blame BET alone for the way a great deal of my classmates act and talk and dress. Everybody makes their own choices. However, if anybody is aware the power of television on impressionable minds, it’s the people running the television operations. If you are not aware, then perhaps you shouldn't be running the operations.Guess who watches your network the most? Not those who are intelligent enough to discern foolishness from substance, but those who are barely teenagers, impressionable and believing. It’s awfully cruel to plant seeds of ignorance in fertile minds. You know it’s really bad when the co-founder of BET, Sheila Johnson, said that she “really doesn't watch it” anymore.I am constantly fighting against the images and messages put forth on your program. What made you think that it’s okay to bring my classmates on stage to dance behind Lil Wayne and Drake to a song talking about boffing “every girl in the world”? Why does reality train wrecks have to thrown in our faces? Are you aware of the achievement gap going in inner-city African-American communities? A report from America’s Promise Alliance, a non-profit group started by Colin Powell, recently stated that 47 percent of high school students in the nation’s top 50 cities don't graduate. (Fifty-four percent of males of color in Ingham County graduated from high school, compared to 74 percent of white males). This isn’t because of BET per se, but I don’t see any episodes on your show doing anything to counteract this disturbing trend. In fact, your show is a part of this cycle of media depicting us at our worst. My older brother told me something about profit being the number one goal for every business. I’m not sure I understand what that means, but I do know that your shows have to be entertaining enough to generate viewers, which is how you make your money. But surely our culture is rich enough to entertain without anything extra to “boost” ratings; why the over-the-top foolery? I listen to classmates talk about Baldwin Hills like it’s the Manhattan Project. It doesn’t take much effort to produce a throng of degenerative reality shows, nor does it take much to eliminate socially conscious shows off the air. MTV isn’t much better, but since when does two wrongs ever make a right? It’s one thing for white television shows to depict us in a particular way, but for black television shows to do it is baffling. Why do you hate us?All of the values that my parents seek to instill in me and my brothers seems to be contradicted by a more powerful force from the media, and your show is at the forefront. Your network is the only network that features rap videos and shows exclusively to children of my color. I know that you have no control over the music that the artists put out, but you do have influence as to how you air these videos. I'm sure if a stand was taken to use the talent in your organization to actually crank out thought-provoking entertaining shows and videos, then artists will follow suit. Being that they need you as much as you need them. There was one awkward segment in the BET Awards when Jamie Foxx singled out three black doctors-turned-authors, but the introduction was so powerless that many of the viewers had no idea who they were. Had they been introduced as Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt and George Jenkins, three brothers who overcame major obstacles to become a success without the use of lyrics that berate women, the sell of substance that destroy communities or through raps about loose gunplay, then maybe my classmates would have come to school talking about more than Beyonce, T-Pain’s BIG ASS CHAIN and Soulja Boy Tell Em’s hopping out the bed.But they weren’t introduced like that. It seemed like a throwaway obligatory tribute to appease some irritated fans. It missed the mark. Big time. Ask Michelle Obama if she watches BET or encourages Sasha and Malia to do so. Ask President Obama. It’s a reason he is the leader of the free world, and it isn’t because of Buffoonery Exists Today. You’d be surprised how smart young black children can be with the absence of Blacks Embarrassing Themselves. If your goal is to deter engaged, forward-thinking articulate black minds, then consider your goal fulfilled. It’s hard-pressed to think that your shows are working to promote cultural betterment. However, it’s quite easy to conclude that the destruction of black children through the glorification of immoral behavior and rushed production is by design. Poison is being swallowed by every viewer who adores your network, and the worse thing is, these viewers - my classmates - are not even aware what they’re swallowing. There is nothing edifying for black women on your show. I don’t judge people who do throng to your programs though; I mean, if a jet crashes in right in front of me, I’ll watch it too. That’s why I don’t flip by your channel…I donâT™t even want to be sucked in.I have aspirations of acquiring a law degree and possibly entering the public sphere, so I can counteract conditions in my community perpetuated by the images on your channel. So I should thank you, because in a weird sense, your shoddy programming is the wind behind my back. And it is my hope that I can accomplish my dreams despite BET’s pictorial messages, because Lord knows it won’t be because of them.Sincerely,Janita Patrick

Bios for your business

Whether you’re a freelancer or a business owner, one thing you need is a good biography. What is a bio? It’s basically a “story-based” version of info you would put on your résumé. A bio is not as formal as a résumé, and it gives you the ability to showcase interesting tidbits about yourself while highlighting your personality. The main reason to write a bio is to give your readers and prospective clients a good sense of who you are and what you do. It also confirms your skills and shows your credibility and experience. You can use a bio on your website and blog, in your marketing materials, for speaking engagements or presentations and with any books, e-books, documents or reports. So, what do you put in it?Most bios include:Present job and professional /business experienceProfessional membershipsHonors, awards and certificationsContact informationYou can also personalize your bio by adding things like your photo, educational background, testimonials or samples of your work.Tips for writingYou can write a bio in many ways, but there are common factors to make it more effective. You should usually write your bio in third-person (use ‘he/she’ instead of ‘I’). When you do it this way shows your professionalism and allows others to really trust what you’re saying.Grab the attention of your readers in the first paragraph so they will want to know more about you.Write conversationally; this will make it simple for readers to follow what you’re saying.Make it as brief as you can; only include necessary information.Think about incorporating personal or unique info about yourself at the end.Once you have a bio you’re happy with, remember it’s not permanent. You’ll want to adjust and update it periodically to reflect any changes you’ve made.If you have any questions about writing bios or need a professional to handle it for you, contact me at jamiefleming@mochawriter.com or (706) 436.7982. I look forward to hearing from you!~Jamiemochawriter.com

When I'm not writing, I'm working on web projects and designing banners. Wow! I'm beginning this blog and now realize there are so many things I would change. Which, in fact, opens up another question to probe...I mean, why isn't it easy to think of only one thing I would change that I've done in my life without having to weigh one against the other. This says to me that there are possibly many regrets. Oops! And if many regrets, whoa! then am I satisfied with who and where I am? Humm.Seriously though, if I could change one thing I've done in life, I would change my undergrad major from Economics to Journalism. I can't aptly say that I regret the Economics education and degree, but I believe I would have gained more mileage as a journalist. And then, maybe not. Hind sight is twenty-twenty as the cliché goes, but you can never see around the corner. Nevertheless, researching (to a degree) and writing is one of my passions and it holds a place in my life. God always has a way of giving us the desires of our heart.Do I have regrets, of course I do. We all have walked down a path that regrettably may have shaped our lives in one way or another. Though we have choices, not all choices are good and profitable. I believe wrong turns can serve as building blocks when the wrong turn culminates at the ultimate right outcome. The lesson then strengthens and births a moral fiber and character that may not have ever been discovered had it not been for that wrong turn.So am I satisfied? Can't say that I'm satisfied because my life's purpose isn't complete. There's much more I need to do and many lives I must touch. But I can say that I'm content...that is, being grateful to God as the navigator of my life knowing the good work He has begun in me will be completed. And too for allowing me to do what I do, for being who I am, sharing what I share, helping whoever I help, and growing in the process. I wouldn't change that at all.Now I've shared my one thing, what's yours?DeanaYour Creative Consultant

Negativity, Doubt, and Rebellion – this behavior is more than annoying. It is destructive, counterproductive, and primarily hindrances. The term commonly used to refer to this type of behavior is pessimism. The pessimist has a tendency to only see, anticipate, and emphasize the bad, the unfavorable, the problems. Pessimists tend to question, complain about, or criticize rather than offer contributions towards productivity, can do attitudes, or offer solutions. How can we work towards a shift in this behavior?Read More...http://hosannapublishing.ning.com

5 eMail Marketing Tips for Newbies

Did you know that email marketing is a powerful tool for online entrepreneurs IF you know how to use it correctly. Here are a few tips for newbies...

email-marketing

  1. The term newsletter is too boring! When most folks think about creating an email marketing campaign they create a newsletter, but you can call it, create it, and turn it into something WAY more interesting than that. You can create a tip list, challenge, ecourse, guide, ezine ... the skies the limit. Realize that most online viewers today go to thousands of websites and see thousands of newsletter forms. Make sure that when they come to your website, your newsletter stands out.
  2. The term newsletter is too broad! When I see the term newsletter I have no clue what you are gonna give me and then I don't want to signup. However if you say something like, 'My List of 100 Ways to Teach Your Toddler Manners', that's better. Let your potential subscribers know what they will be getting in their inbox when they signup to your newsletter. I do that all the time. For example, I let people know that when they subscribe to Sistasense.com they will get weekly web business tips and tools for beginners.
  3. Make your newsletter full of personality! My favorite newsletters have their own distinct personality, which helps me remember them and spot them instantly. Some folks always have their logo in the same place, while others love to use a special picture of themselves. Remember to put a piece of you in your newsletter as a way of building that connection (relationship) that us marketing experts are always talking about.
  4. When you hate to write, an auto responder is the right way to go! I've got more newsletter than I care to mention in various industries. How do I keep it all together? Truth be told, most of them are auto-responders, with a select hand few that I write weekly. My favorite auto-responders I write in a set of 48 (1 for each week of the year). That way once it's done I never have to write it again. What do you think about that? Can you devote one week to writing your auto-responder and saving you a WHOLE Years worth of work.
  5. Give a little to get a little! When you are trying to build your list faster than normal, giving something away is always a great way to get folks on your list. Common giveaway incentives are reports and/or audio files sharing great information. Quick tip: If you are trying this now with no results you've got to keep a few things in mind. Could be you have low traffic to the page your newsletter is on. It could be your giveaway title isn't interesting enough. It could be folks who come to your website don't really want that freebie. The trick is to research, figure out what words and freebies make your audience tick! Do that and you'll get more new readers than you know what to do with.
