Ralph Waldo Emerson Quote

"If you think you can, you willIf you think you can't, you won'tEither way - You're right."Ralph Waldo EmersonI was working with some 6th graders this week and we had a discussion about this quote. By George, I think they got it! I live for the "A-ha! moments" in my classrooms. The bottom line - if you're right, you're right and if you're wrong, you're right, too. I love it!

Also in the mail today I received my order from Majestique Events & Gifts Inc. Today I received my order from Aseyori African Market. When I first visited the site I had to really take my time and poke around simply because there is such a huge selection of various items to choose from! So for my first time order I decided to buy a few beaded bangle braclets. Perfect for summer AND evening ! Now you ladies don't know me but I'm the type of shopper that says "Why buy 1? " "Let me buy a few to stack them up and really stand out!" So I browsed the color selction and choose two each of the bracelets you see above.Ladies let me tell you, these are absolutely beautiful! They're also VERY well crafted. No loosey-goosey beading that if you're out your praying" Please don't let all these beads fall off out here in public!". (Don't play, I know I'm not the only one to ever buy something cheap and regret it later!)So like I've said before in other reviews,if you're on the fence, give this company a try. I think you'll be pleased. My next purchase will a few bags that CeeCee reviewed previously.Candace

Passport Card vs. Passport Book - Which is best?

Passport Card vs. Passport Book , which is best for you?As summer vacation time approaches, it’s the time that applications for passports begin to pick up for those family vacation plans. This time last year was a huge headache for anyone traveling outside of the country and did not have a passport. This year travelers are faced with a new dilemma. Passport Books vs. the Passport Card. Travel Agents are in the position of explaining what it all means to our clients. The passport card is a wallet side document that will be used to expedite document processing from the U.S. borders between Canada and Mexico, and for the Carribean and Bermuda. This card will have a RFID chip in it. It will link the card to a stored record in secure government databases. There will be no personal information on the card itself.Pros and Cons of using the passport card;Pros:- Cheaper in cost, It’s a wallet sized card, thus convenient to store in a wallet or purse- Very convenient for those frequent travelers who live in communities on the boarder of Mexico and Canada.Cons:- Cannot be used for air travel. Use is restricted for land and sea travel between the U.S.,Mexico, Canada,Carribean and Bermuda. If you are a frequent traveler or vacationer, the old fashioned Passport Book is best. There are no restrictions. If you seldom travel and that travel is limited to land or sea to Canada, Mexico, the Carribean and Bermuda, then the less expensive passport card may be the way to go.Production for the passport card is tentatively scheduled for June 2008.For more information go to http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html# andhttp://www.gottitravel.com - See Travel Resources in middle at bottom of page. What's Your Exit Plan?

How One Indie Took Her Dream Full TimeWhen I left my full-time job to launch the Indie Beauty Network in 2000, my exit plan was simple: exchange a career that paid well, but which no longer suited my lifestyle, for a career that allowed me to do what I love and enjoy my lifestyle. While my exit plan was pretty basic (and risky!), other people like Kristen Fraser Cotte and her husband Peter, had a smarter strategy.

kristen_and_peter_cotte.jpg

As co-owners of The Grapeseed Company (TGC) in Santa Barbara, the couple planned Kristen's exit from full-time work as an educational diagnostician years in advance. Their planning and dedication paid off last week on June 12, when Kristen left her job to work TCG full-time.I caught up with Kristen to find out a little about her exit plan and how things are going.dM: What was your exit strategy?Kristen: Altogether, it was a 3-year transition, ending just last week. I did it in stages. At first, I cut my hours a just a little to get things started in the business. I worked 4 days a week and ran the business at night, on Fridays and on weekends. Then, a year or so into it, I cut back to about 50%.I worked out a "job sharing" arrangement with another educator to ease the transition. She worked the days I wasn't there, and vice versa. It was a great arrangement. After doing that for a year, I left the educational arena to pursue our family business! I maintain my teaching credentials in case I need them in the future. As of June 12, I am 100% devoted to TGC, and I couldn't be happier.dM: Were you able to keep your health insurance?Kristen: Fortunately, I have health insurance through my husband's full-time job. (He also serves as TGC's accountant.) Without insurance through his job, I would have had to consider alternative exit strategies and I think it would have been a more difficult transition.dM: What tips can you offer others who want to create an exit strategy so they can take their dream full time?Kristen: Think outside the box. Look deep within your career path or profession to find creative ways to maneuver your work hours and responsibilities so that you can simultaneously accommodate your business. If you look hard enough and want it badly enough, you'll make it work.dM: How do you like being a member of IBN?Kristen: It's great! It offers members a huge wealth of resources. Whenever I have time, I check out all of the great information at the site that helps me run my business and stay on top of things. I really enjoy the Group Coaching. We are working hard to update our online presence and the Group Coaching sessions have been great for that.Of course the affordable products liability insurance is great too!!dM: What's your best selling product at TCG?Kristen: Our Surf Body Lotion, a moisturizing lotion made with grapeseed oil, coconut, lime and mint. We like to say that one whiff will immediately transport you to the beach!

Why You Should NEVER Talk To Cops

Greetings Family,(Contact Information At Bottom Of Page)It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again (smile)I receive hundreds of emails daily, but this one from Melvin Pratt (spinbird_oma@yahoo.com) especially caught my attention. As many who have followed the drama of Jim Neusom knows, I have just recently been acquitted of Social Security Fraud. The reason I bring that up, is because if I had followed the advice given in this webinar, I would never have been convicted in the first place (see http://www.citylightssoftware.com/JIN_appeal_2.html).Two Federal agents showed up at my door late one night, and believing that I was innocent, and this was simply an accounting error, I gave them a voluntary statement that to my shock and dismay, was later characterized as a confession to the Jury. Now understand, that there was no evidence of me committing any crime other then my voluntary statement. I never forged any signature, failed to file the required forms, or misreported any information...I simply said to the Feds, that I was aware of the deposits and spent the money. My purpose in telling my story is to help deter others from cooperating with the police and incriminating themselves in a crime they did not commit. The police are not your friends. They are not there to help you...they are there to solve a crime (by any means necessary)! Now don't get it twisted. This is not another "Stop Snitchin" thread. This is just some good advice for anyone that encounters the Police. Even in a traffic stop situation, do not say anything other then here is my license and insurance. Don't try to explain your actions, cooperate by allowing them to search your car, or agree to anything the officer tells you. Please take the time to send brother Pratt a shout-out and thank him for this empowering information. This online video webinar is in two parts and roughly one hour long. But below is some of the highlights and legal talking points highlighted in this law class;---Why You Should Never Talk To Cops---http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/342.html1. There is NO way it can help youa) You can't talk your way out of getting arrestedb) You can't give them any info that will help you at trial...seeFederal Rule of Evidence 801(d)(2)(A)2. If your client is guilty - and even if he is innocent - he may admit hisguilt with no benefit in returna) What's the rushb) In federal court, 86% of all defendants plead guilty at some point before trial.c) Your statement to the police may become admissible evidence by the time of trial, even if the police officer dies, is convicted ofwrong doing, or all other evidence is thrown out3. Even if your client is innocent and denies his guilt and mostly tell the truth, he can easily get carried away and tell some little lie or make some little mistake that will hang him at trial.4. Even if your client is innocent and only tells the truth, he will always give the police some information that can be used to help convict him.a) It is impossible to talk to the police for a long period of time and not give them something that they can twist into anincriminating factor and/or something that can help their case5. Even if your client is innocent and only tells the truth and does not tell the police anything incriminating, there is still a grave chance that his answers can be used to crucify him, if the police don't recall his testimony with **100% accuracy.6. Even if your client is innocent and only tells the truth and does not tell the police anything incriminating, and his statement is videotaped, his answers can be used to crucify him if the police don't recall their questions with **100% accuracy**Police make mistakes (let's not say the police lie). Now It's Your Word Against Theirs...and we all know which one the jury is more likely to believe.7. Even if your client is innocent and only tells the truth and does not tell the police anything incriminating and the entire interview is videotaped, his answers can still be used to crucify him if the police have any evidence from mistaken, or unreliable evidence that counters any of his statements, and makes him look like he's lying.8. If you deny guilt and then later confess, or facts determine you lied to the police in your initial statement, you now have a new charge that can be worse then the original charge (think Marion Jones, or Michal Vick).Always remember, it is legal for the police to lie, trick, and manipulate you during an interrogation. They are trained to do just that. Any first year lawyer (worth his salt) will only allow the police to talk to you after they have promised some type of immunity or plea deal.***************(Advertisement)*********************Need some great ideas for corporate or personal gift-giving?Then go to City Lights Software(http://www.citylightssoftware.com )and see some of the most unique afrocentric gifts available online! We Deliver ONLINE - Direct To Your Desktop for just $14.95Please take the time to purchase one our afrocentric screen savers TODAY!Don't Just Talk the Talk...Let Your Dollars Walk the WalkIf you have any problems with purchasing online contact me direct at sales@citylightssoftware.com or call (213) 944-4176******************************************************This Online Journal was brought to you by InterServe Networks. Ugh...well, that's a different story now, isn't it?!What organized people don't understand about creative souls is that the thought of being organized seems to be in conflict with our creative spirit.Accurate or not, creative types feel that if everything is neat and tidy then their creativity will be contained as well.Well, I'm about to bust that myth because I am a both highly creative AND organized woman business owner. In fact, it's when my papers, email and office are the most organized that I am the most creative. So how do I keep both ideals—creativity and order—in harmony? The answers are easier than you might think.Clickk Here To Get Organization Tips

The last event I attended while I was in Philadelphia was the Odunde Festival, one of the largest community- based street festivals held in the country. Odunde is a celebration, which comes from the Yoruba tradition, and celebrates the coming of the New Year. It was hot, both temperature wise and culturally. I recognized several traditional dances, which were celebratory and reflective. Now, did I meet my challenge to see Philly on $10 per day? Well…I was in Philly for 13 days and I spent $25 on public transportation. Now, I cheated a little because I used my sister’s trail pass for 2 days, which allowed unlimited travel throughout the city and the ‘burbs. However, I could have purchased my own weekly pass for $20.75.Entrance fees to museums were $17; however, if I had gone to the Philadelphia Museum on Sunday, it would have been a love donation. I spent $106.27 on food, however, $54.60 of that was for travel prepared cheese steaks and tastykakes from Superfresh (they were on sale for $1.89 per family pack with a member card, Sharon’s). My daughters texted or called me everyday to remind me to bring them! I spent another $10 on donations. So, if I looked at my daily cost over 13 days, my average cost per day is $12.40 per day, still not bad!If I delete the food that I brought home for my family then my average cost per day was $7.84. Of course, it would be hard for someone who did not know a city, or who was not public transportation savvy to be able to do as I did. I had free lodging and was taken to dinner several times and I walked a lot, partly to prove that I could walk! Walking helped my perspective and allowed me to see this beautiful city. I can help you see such a city on a budget.

After you have your professionally designed site that gives vital information about your business and convinces visitors to use your services it is time to exchange links. Exchanging links with reputable sites that relate to yours is a great way to increase your exposure online. Link exchanging is also a great way to increase your search engine rankings. Finding sites that you would like to exchange links with can be time consuming and sometimes frustrating. But it is definitely worth it.

How do you start your day off? You do know that the beginning could be the end so start it off right. Ever had a bad morning and its followed its way through? Well that's what I mean. I normally start my day off with meditation lets keep it fresh, I don't sit with candles and incense burning chanting "hum rey yum" I don't have time for that I just take 5-10 minutes in silence just to be still and think, sometimes I think of tasks I wish to complete and then I take time to show gratitude. I actually find when I don't do this, the rest of the day I'm running around like an unorganised headless chicken. Most of us really underestimate the power of just sitting and being still for a while. Being still really helps to clear your thoughts......

So ....Book a date with yourself!

Regardless of the time of the day, have 10-20 minutes just to sit and think, if you want to jot down notes of things you have to do then do that. This will help you to focus, you will have time to concentrate and remember all tasks you wish to complete and ways in which to do so. Therefore in action you will be most productive, already having run through your tasks.

Everyone has a peek time within there day. You know a time where you find your self most active, most enthusiastic etc. Are you a morning person? An afternoon person? An evening person? Which ever you identify with, do your most important tasks within this period while you are switched on and ready to go. Doing them at your peek points and not your tedeious will make the most difficult tasks easier to bear.

Cancel Interruptions!

This especially applies to those that work at home, if you have been working all day (whether office or home) have a small gateway period where the phone is plugged out mobiles switched off do not check your email just chill. Break off for a moment and do you. Avoid prolonging this for too long (you don't want people to be worry about you lol.)

Most of all Have a Purpose for your day

Try to get something from each day. Make sure you do one great thing each day no matter how big or small just great.

Lastly....Laugh!

Have fun with your day keep it funky. Be realistic stuff happens and the slightest thing can put a damper on your day but you are the only one in control of your emotions, so regardless of the exterior impacts or people around you make sure your smiling keep your spirits up and things will turn out fine. Things never seem so bad when your smiling and when your having fun the day goes quicker. Ask yourself do you see your glass half empty or Half full ;-)

See I started with asking what can you do to make your day most productive, but what you have to understand is in order to be most productive your personal self awareness and well-being has to be in check. So when asking about being most productive its really about self management rather than task management. As long as your head is clear, you will find most other things in life follow through.

I hope this helps. QueenB.D
