I'm a Dummy!

Sorry... my writing skills are off today. What I meant to say is I’ve been featured in the new book, "Social Media Marketing All-in-One For Dummies." A few months back, they asked to feature screen shots of Black Business Women Online, my social network in their book! How cool is that? AND now it is officially in print with BBWO on page 653! I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Thank God for Ning! Creating my own social network was one of the best things I have ever done to really boost my business, my brand, AND my buzz online". And the funny thing is, the more I make my network better, the more requests I get to do custom designs for other social network creators. I've gotten so many new requests this month I had to post-pone my next SistaSense Circle and create a pdf pricing guide for new clients looking to customize their ning networks (download pdf here). With respect to using social media marketing to build your business, branding your own social network is a great idea. The key is to make sure that when you do decide to create your own space, you proactively fill it with great content to keep your visitors coming back for more. New Beginnings Start Living Lose Weight!

Welcome to my New Blog

I decided to start my blog with the new month of October. I'm feeling great because I have started this month and the best way. I now weigh less than I have ever weighed in my adult life. This is such an accomplishment for me. Although I have lost and kept a lot of pounds since 2003, I have had my share of battles. Sometimes I felt deprived and frustrated that I must be concerned with eating healthy and exercising. However, I realize after seeing the results I've been seeing, it is worth more than the cookies, cakes, donuts and pizza that I have passed up. The thrills of eating those are so temporary and the results and are not what I want, the extra weight, and clothes not fitting right.

On the other hand, eating healthy makes me feel physically better and more in control. I enjoy seeing the numbers going down on the scale, my clothes fitting like I want them to. Don't think that I'm obsessed with losing weight or trying to reach a ridiculously low number. I'm just getting closer to the healthy BMI which will no longer classify me as overweight.

Now that I've expressed my excitement, I want to know how or will you start your journey this month?

As my site suggests, start living today! It's well worth effort.

What to do now that I am single?

So now that you are single you are probably sitting around wondering to yourself, what do I do now? Well, at this point you have a lot of options.

· You can sit around and cry and pout for a couple of days or months. (Note that there is none thing wrong with crying to release all of your hurt and pain. Just don’t stay in that place too long.)

· You can go hang out with your girlfriends.

· You can spend this time getting to you know you a little bit better. (Highly recommended)

· You can find a rebound guy who you can use to cuddle up with and spend your time with so that you won’t feel lonely.

After all of the options that I have provided, I would suggest that you as a new single woman spend time getting to know yourself a little bit better.

A problem that many single women have is that they don’t take the necessary time to heal after a major breakup before jumping into a new relationship.

And the result of doing that is you go into a new relationship with mixed emotions and hurt and pain from your previous relationship.

What I suggest that you do is take some time to heal from your previous relationship.

Do you need further help in this area? Erica recommends Make-Me-Over Michelle Coaching Program where she will guide you through letting go of all of the heartache and pain that you need to get rid of to move forward in your life. Visit www.guidingu2success.com for more details.

Contrary to what you have been told; what you don't know WILL hurt you! This is especially true when building a business. In business, not only will what you don't know hurt you, what you don't know WILL kill you. Many small business owners and new business owners in particular often make the deadly mistake of entering into business with blinders on. Often times, new business owners are so caught up in ones own passion for wanting to open up a business that they miss all of the critical must-know and must-do signs around them!

If you are operating in the dark, or operating in denial you can best believe that your end is near! It is not ok to be ignorant or make excuses for lack of business while doing nothing to change your circumstances. What is happening today is a good indicator of what will be happening in the future and so if you are not satisfied with what is taking place in your business today, you might want to get on the fast track to changing some things. Problems won't fix themselves! Customers won't magically appear. If you are doing what you've been doing and getting the same results, you might want to consider changing some things - that might include evaluating other business opportunities.

Written for Quaylynn Dabney

I heard about a 14yr old boy killed during a store robbery. Even though it was him and his friend doing the robbery, my heart goes out to him and his family. I wrote this poem in remembrance of Quaylynn. I do not know him or his parents personally but God gave me the gift and so I use it to help others. I'm hoping this piece will save other teens. This poem is written to be spoken from the mouth of Quaylynn Dabney.

Sometimes we find out the hard way...

On that day I decided to take things into my own hands

To find a get rich quick skeem seemed to be the plan

But things didn't turn out the way I had visioned

A shot to my body made by someone's instant decision…

to take my life.

I know that my reasoning for the robbery wasn't right

Didn't think that the decision made would take my life

Didn't think that I would be the one laying there motionless

Didn't think I would be in a position that would leave me helpless.

Hanging with the wrong crowd could've been why this took place

Didn't know that my life would end this way

So now how do I ever get a chance to change my mind

How about I paint a portrait of my forgiveness in the sky.

When we hear of children losing their lives we think we're invisible

Living like it will never be us will have us doing the unthinkable

I bet you wonder why I was out at that time of night anyway

God was getting ready to call me home is all I can say.

I know the tears fill the eyes of my family and friends

And I know the hurt and the pain has only began

I know that it'll be hard to open up your hearts and forgive

But God knew on that very day that it would be the last moment I live.

And as we know, things truly happen for a reason

And I know that my death to ya'll wasn't all that pleasing

And I know that the blame weigh heavy on your hearts

But maybe If I was standing in their shoes that shot may have not been that hard…

to take.

And me saying that, I know doesn't replace the fact that I'm gone

And no matter how I try to make it sound, my death will always seem so wrong

And we may say that there were other ways around this

But at that single moment, I found that…

God called me home to be with Him that day

He sent one of the most beautiful angels to come and carry me away

He left with you memories to enjoy

And gave me away to try and help every young girl and boy by…

Sending these words to say that life is really precious

And you don't have to die so that others learn a lesson

While you have the chance it's time to turn things around

And we need to stand up and put the guns down

And we need to learn to make better decisions

And watch who you hang with and don't let peer pressure have u wishing..

you would've made better choices.

Let these words as you read them be a positive voice that says,

God wants better for our lives and our parents love us more than that

Take your spare time and give that love back

And though my life is no longer, these words to you I give

Let my death be the reason that you live.

I'm out,

Qualynn Dabney

My heart goes out to those affected by the loss of a child whether by death, imprisonment or to the streets. In my hometown there are a lot of children killing one another. There are a lot of fatherless children due to this. There are a lot of parents with pain and anger in their hearts. There are a lot of families hurt by this.

My God given talent is to write poetry...write poetry that helps, heal and save lives. On my Facebook page is where I do most of my writing but I would love to share some of them with you. I write personalized poetry for anyone in need of comforting words, a good laugh, uplifting or just because.

I hope you enjoy...

I sit along side the ground I was buried in

My arms wrapped around my legs and I'm wondering

How did I get here? So quick. So fast.

Is this the length of time my life was suppose to last?

I sit here wondering wut is dude thinking

Does he have a care in the world that in this ground my body sinked in.

Did he get caught yet or is he wondering free?

Is the picture of my body laying there helpless all that he see?

I sit bottom on my bunk in this cell

Angry that at such a young age, my life will forever be in jail.

Can't escape the eyes of the young man who's life I took

Pain buried in my heart as, at my life I look.

No way to apologize. No way for him to hear.

Well, if he's wondering. Behind these walls for my life I fear.

That moment I asked to be taken back to

That bullet I ask for it to reverse back thru...his body.

I wonder if he knew that, that day I shot me

Only I lived. No permanent wound but a dead life I'll live.

I sit mourning my child's death

I sit hating that his life has ended

I sit with hatred in my heart

I wish that boy's life in jail could be ended...

but I know that's not right.

For some reason he still has life

Maybe it's to save another

My heart goes out to that boy's mother.

I sit on the edge of my bed crying

My son is in jail while another mother's son is lying...6ft under

My mind wonders and I don't know wut to say

I know she's hurting and my words won't end the pain

But I would wrap my arms around her and say,

Though I cannot remove the pain that you feel

From one mother to another...I know God is real.

And for my son I send my condolences and apologies

Cause when you cry, I also weep. I'm so sorry.

Right now I have Social Networking / Social Media Marketing ALL Over my brain. While I normally limit myself to only 3 web projects a month, right now I am working on 4 custom ning network projects and 2 wordpress blog projects + redesigning my black parenting + along with maintaining my current 3 ning networks. I am 'work at home' working hard right now!

I just had an amazing radio interview with, Deborah Owens Finance Guru and Host of Wealthy Lifestyle Radio (replay below). Next week I am off to social network at Blogalicous Weekend 2010 and THEN two weeks later I will be speaking about Social Networking Essentials at the Extreme Makeover for the Woman Summit & Benefit.

Some how I've also managed to host a boat load of giveaways this week (see one, two, three), take my son to Toys R Us for Geoffry's 49th birthday party last week (adding pics to my facebook page soon) And in an hour from now we are going to the NC Seafood festival today after a day of fun yesterday! When next month hits, I think you'll have to stick a fork in ME instead of the turkey.

Wealthy Lifestyle Radio with Deborah Owens Audio Replay:
LaShanda Henry Talks about Why some internet entrepreneurs don't make sales because they are either too social (aka passive) or too aggressive with their marketing. (No audio below? Click here.)

Because Social Networking for Women Entrepreneurs is pretty much my thang I recently got my social network, featured in the latest For Dummies Guide - Social Media Marketing All In One! You can see shots of my network, Black Business Women Online and everything! (Pictures Coming Soon ... sorry I type faster than I get my photos and videos up). Anyhoo... I'm so excited about all my new found Social Networking Buzz and Business that I decided to give you some of my Social Media Money and Marketing secrets today!

Fact: When I started working at home full time, my first real goal was to make more than I was working in my 9-5. Alcorn State, Mississippi

Alcorn State University is a land-grant institution that has been designated by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning as a regional university with a primary purpose to serve the southwestern region of Mississippi. The institution considers itself a premier institution preparing students for graduate and professional school, especially in the sciences.

Organized research is conducted in selected areas, but instruction and public service are the primary components of the university's mission. The institution is currently engaged in a variety of research activities that focus on biotechnology, energy, meat, ecology, farming and alternative crops. Constantly looking for ways to broaden its research function, the institution is moving toward research involving advanced technology and value-added agriculture.

The institution fulfills the instruction component of its mission through small classes and by emphasizing strong undergraduate programs while striving to develop additional graduate programs in specific areas of need and opportunity.

As a Carnegie Master's I institution and a SREB Level 4 institution, Alcorn State offers a wide range of baccalaureate programs in science, mathematics, nursing, agriculture, advanced technologies, education and business. The institution also offers a selected number of master's programs in areas such as agriculture, education, nursing and science.

As the epi-center of southwest Mississippi, the institution, through its "communiversity concept," provides outreach programs and services that are geared toward assisting and meeting the educational, economic, recreational and cultural needs of the immediate community, the region and the state. Through agricultural research and extension programs, the university seeks to serve families with limited resources and to help small and family farmers improve their standard of living. The institution also provides a variety of professional development opportunities for elementary and secondary schools designed to enhance performance in reading, mathematics, science and standardized examinations.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship honors excellence by supporting outstanding community college students with financial need to transfer to and complete their bachelor’s degrees at the nation’s top four-year colleges and universities.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship makes it possible for the nation’s top community college students to complete their bachelor’s degrees by transferring to a four-year college or university. The Foundation provides up to $30,000 per year to each of approximately 50 deserving students selected annually, making it the largest private scholarship for two-year and community college transfer students in the country.

Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees – for the final two to three years necessary to achieve a bachelor’s degree. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships he or she may receive.

To be eligible for the program, students must be nominated by the
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Faculty Representative at their two-year institution. Students cannot apply directly to the Foundation. Each two-year college may nominate up to four students (depending upon institution enrollment) each year to be considered for the scholarship.

Selection Criteria

A review panel of distinguished university faculty and admissions professionals judge the nominees using criteria including academic achievement and critical thinking ability, financial need, will to succeed, and breadth of interest and activities.

Business Reorganization

Today, I want to talk about the business of business reorganization. Big corporations refer to business reorganization as "trimming the fat". As the term implies, an owner must find ways to cut costs without sacrificing the quality of services and/or products or the integrity of the organization. Sometimes, business reorganization can mean filing for Bankruptcy because a business may be having financial difficulties. However, when I talk about business reorganization, I'm thinking about improvement of the company, it's processes and procedures, strategies, and putting things in a better order and perspective.

A few weeks ago, a young man gave a testimony at church about coming to a crossroads in your life and how God is in the midst of the changes about to take place. It was so powerful, it brought me to tears and I had chill bumps up and down my arms. Part of my reaction was because of the testimony itself, but the other part was because my husband and I recently realized that we are at that point in our lives, personally, and in our respective businesses. Although we've had a good run individually, with regard to our businesses, we decided it was hightime we brought our talents together under one umbrella in order to turnaround our business, be a greater blessing to our clients, and become a force to be reckoned with in the business world.

For the past 30 days, we put our heads together to plan a massive reorganization of our businesses. We decided upon the name and our business structure, where we would host our new website, and basically made a checklist of all we needed to do and then divided up the tasks.

The planning phase of our business reorganization has been intensive. The most important question on the table - what will stay and what will go? Then we ask ourselves, what can we add that uses both of our talents to the max? We reevaluated our existing business plans and decided to make very significantchanges. It's been tough, to say the least, to say goodbye to our individual business identities (I applaud and appreciate my husband for making the biggest sacrifice), but I believe the reward will be so much greater. No pain, no gain, right?

So, we are setting new and realistic goals and aggressively charting our new path, taking the time to understand where our business is making money and then refocusing our company in these profit making areas. The tasks have been daunting and we're still working out the kinks, but I truly believe the foundation we're building will be solid and we, as a team, will be able to help others in a more phenomenal way than we ever have before!
