I'm originally from Detroit, Michigan. I now live in Scottsdale,Arizona. I went from the #1 Chocolate City to the 5th whitest city in America. Yes there was a cultural shock. I celebrate Kwanzaa no matter where I am if I have to celebrate it with just my daughter and myslf.
In Detroit its a very big deal with Kwanzaa Celebrations going on every nite. Kwanzaa has grown fron a Black American Celebration to one that is celebrated world wide. All communities are now celebrating Kwanzaa. People celebrate at home, in the workplace and at their houses of worship. Gatherings go from informal to very elaborate events where people rent nightclubs, Museum of African American History and other large venues. Many of them including the City Hall Building allow vendors to come sell and disseminate info about their businesses.
Truly celebrating the principle and purpose of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa provides a way to Buy Black and shop local. Many consumers discover businesses they never knew existed and continue to patronize after the season.
Do you celebrate Kwanzaa? Whether you celebrate or not it is a gift buying season with emphasis on handcrafted items as gifts. If you sell product you really show have Kwanzaa as part of your marketing stategy. There are now many who no longer celebrate Christmas because it has become so commerical and they only celebrate in church. Many of these same people celebrate Kwanzaa because it is a time of communal sharing and the emphasis on handcrafted gifts.
Do you celebrate or ignore Kwanzaa? Kwanzaa.com will give you info on how to share Kwanzaa with your family.
All the best

CDM/UNCF Scholars Program 2010-11
CDM and its subsidiaries, CDM Federal Programs Corporation and CDM Constructors Inc., in association with UNCF, have established a scholarship/internship program for students who have a 3.0 grade point average or better and who are majoring in a variety of engineering, science, or construction disciplines such as environmental, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, geotechnical, hydrology, structural or will be pursuing a master's degree in the fall of 2011 in one of the aforementioned disciplines.
Program components will include a summer internship, mentorship, and scholarship for the ensuing academic year or first-year master's program. The internship will consist of a summer work program, during which the selected students will have the opportunity to work on a number of engineering projects at a CDM office. The key to this concept will be CDM's assignment of a mentor to each student participant. During the summer, in addition to working closely together, mentors and scholars will spend informal time together participating in recreational and social activities to help build the relationship that should endure through the scholars' college career and beyond. After the successful completion of the internship, participants will receive a scholarship to help cover expenses for the next academic year.
Annual per-student award includes a $6,000 scholarship, paid internship, and up to $2,500 living and housing reimbursement. In my personal opinion (which is the only one that matters) a celebrity diva (maybe with the initials M.C0 should be given the same amount of privacy during pregancy that they require on a day to day basis. You can't pick and choose what you want us to know. Well you can but its unfair to the fans who are invited into your lives and then shut out on a whim.
And I just knew MC was gonna let it all out at her Christmas album release party, but she choked up.
And then what's to hide?
Why not let the world enjoy in your expected bundle of joy? Just a few months ago you invited us in when you wanted to croon about Eminem's obsesion with you (oh yeah you weren't talking about Slim Shady) now we aren't in again.Cold it possibly be that at 40 their are more issues to worry about surrounding your pregnancy? Could it be because you don't want the world to know that you not only married but conceived a child with a man-child?
I mean really though, pregnant or not, you're still the same mariah that serenades us with your holiday tunes.
So spill the beans already!!!!

Are You Reaching for the wrong things?
Have you ever thought to consider that the very thing your reaching for and can't seem to get be the very thing God is protecting your heart from? If you are a parent and you were cooking and you saw your toddler reaching to feel on top of the stove the first thing you would do would grab your child to safety and then your next move would be to remove all things of harm out of their way. Well my friend when you think about it that's the very thing God does in most cases because his job is to protect us and keep us from reach of harm's way and he very well will not allow his child to get hurt but sometimes because a toddler cannot see how something that captures his attention so greatly would harm him eventually he will venture back only to get a little nip of heat on his finger tips, and what could a little nip could be a major lesson to the toddler and we all know experience is the best teacher. I say this my friend because this has to be a reminder to us when we do not get that promotion we want, the loan was not approve for that dream house you wanted, that relationship that you have been holding on to but it just cannot seem to get right, or that great job you always wanted and you were sure that the interviewer was certain to pick you...although these things did not come to pass you must still be encouraged because what God has for you it is only for you. I often indulge myself in 1 Corinthians 2:9 However it is written “No eye has seen, no ear have heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”. So I tell you this in closing everything you are going through was aloud by God so that he could bring you to a place to trust him and prepare you for a much greater blessing he has in store, your life was already planned out and in your future because you continued to trust and love him and just like a parent when everything is done and the meal is set before you to enjoy you will see that it was well worth the wait and while you were trying to reach in the pot prematurely you learned how to get this disappointed and hurt and you took it in as a life lesson so its best to wait on God for guidance because he will never fell you nor forsake you.....God Bless
