The only thing more fun than a girls' night out is two in a row—or three, or five. Whether you and your friends are looking to party all night, max out your credit cards, or enjoy a relaxing massage or a glass of wine, ProfessionalTravelGuide.com has the information you need to plan a fun and memorable Girlfriend Getaway.Miami

Miami's beaches are famous. Go, relax, soak up the sun. But if you and the girls need a break from the sand and surf, check out the rest of lively Miami: international restaurants, trendy nightlife and shopping galore. And who says professional sports are just for the guys? Miami has football, baseball and basketball teams, as well as horse racing.Hotel RecommendationsIf there are golfers in your group, the Doral Golf Resort-Spa is the perfect setting. Nongolfers will have plenty of options there, too. At the spectacular Mandarin Oriental, Miami, you and your girlfriends can sample 250 different martinis in the lobby lounge. For the health-conscious, the Mandarin offers special Spa Lifestyle Rooms.Phoenix/Scottsdale

Phoenix and Scottsdale are prime pampering destinations. These youthful neighboring cities offer spas to suite every taste. For a little culture, choose from an abundance of performing arts venues.Hotel RecommendationsAt the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale, the staff will treat you and your girlfriends like queens. At the lovely Roy al Palms Resort and Spa, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to a Mediterranean villa. Eclectic art and antiques accent the public rooms.Los Angeles

Hollywood stars. Disneyland. The Pacific Ocean. What could be more fun than exploring this city of sunshine and palm trees side by side with your best friends? Partake in pop culture at its most glamorous, from Hollywood Boulevard to the clubs of Sunset Strip to the shops on Rodeo Drive. Los Angeles is full of the stuff legends are made of.Hotel RecommendationsYou’ll be in the company of plenty of celebrities at the Hotel Bel-Air, but this refine d property is far from pretentious. And the gardens are gorgeous. The Millennium Biltmore Hotel also offers plenty of opportunities for celebrity-sightings, and it’s close to local attractions, as well as Hollywood and the beaches.Napa Valley

California's wine region is the quintessential girlfriend getaway. It has one of the best grape-growing climates in the world—some say even better than France. The big-name vineyards are obvious choices, but be sure to tour some of the small, family-run wineries as well. If you need a day to sober up, San Francisco's sights are an easy drive away.Hotel RecommendationsAfter a day of wine tasting, the girls will enjoy relaxing in the spa or by the pool at the Villagio Inn & Spa. Rooms at the world-class Carneros Inn are designed for elegant comfort, and the grounds are breathtaking.Las Vegas

Las Vegas is constantly changing and never dull. Casinos, nightclubs, luxury hotels, every kind of entertainment imaginable and fabulous restaurants provide plenty of opportunities for girlfriends to reconnect and let loose. Good museums and the nearby Red Rock Canyon provide a respite from the buzz of the Strip.Hotel RecommendationsSince it’s a special getaway, you may as well go for the top: the Bellagio has long been considered the cream of the crop in Vegas. Other excellent choices include the Wynn Las Vegas, the Mirage, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Caesars and the Venetian.New York City

Ladies, take your credit cards. Regardless of your taste or budget, New York has a store, boutique or district perfect for you. Spend the days shopping and seeing the sights and the evenings at the theater, opera or symphony. Dining options are limitless, but don't overlook the hole-in-the-wall diners and pizza joints.Hotel RecommendationsThe Hilton Times Square is right in the middle of the action, close to theaters, cinemas and shopping, and its nicely sized rooms are clean and the staff is attentive. Indulge all your senses with a treatment in the spa at the luxurious Mandarin Oriental, New York or swim in the panoramic 75-foot lap pool that has a view almost as grand as from the 35th-floor lobby. The Renaissance New York Hotel Times Square is ideally located for visiting the theater, and it offers outstanding views of the city. For trend-seekers, the W New York Times Square is the top choice.New Orleans

Mardi Gras, street performers, Cajun and Creole food, historic architecture, voodoo vendors and Bourbon Street bars all collide to create the festive atmosphere that is New Orleans. Book a room in the French Quarter and explore on foot; there are enough shops, restaurants and nightclubs to keep you busy for days. Be sure to catch some live music.Hotel RecommendationsFor comfort, convenience and charm, try the Dauphine Orleans Hotel, a delightful inn in the French Quarter. In the heart of the action and next to the Ritz-Carlton, The Iberville Suites may be just the pl ace for a girls getaway. The suites provide distinctive living and sleeping areas.Charleston

Charleston is steeped in history. Stroll along Rainbow Row to admire the historic architecture; visit Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began; enjoy the views from Riverfront and Waterfront parks; and shop at the Old City Market. In the evening, stuff yourselves on seafood and enjoy a cocktail on a patio downtown.Hotel RecommendationsFor a true taste of the Old South, stay at Charleston Place in the hi storic district. Southern living doesn’t get much better than this! Wentworth Mansion also is an excellent choice for an authentic experience.Chicago

Chicago's biggest draws are architecture, museums and shopping. Take a city tour to view the famous public sculptures and landmark buildings, then buy a CityPass for everyone in your group and enjoy admission to five of Chicago's top attractions. After Michigan Avenue shopping, venture out of the city to enjoy the area's parks, gardens and zoos.Hotel RecommendationsThe luxurious Fairmont Chicago offers excellent value and is perfectly situated for Chicago’s many attractions. Other excellent choices include Park Hyatt Chicago and the Omni Chicago Hotel, where suites may be just the thing f or late-night group talks.Seattle

If you're coffee-culture gals, don't miss Seattle. Visit the original Starbuck's location, but don't get stuck there. Seattle has dozens of excellent coffeehouses to peruse. Stroll through century-old Pike Place Market and explore the city's diverse neighborhoods. Take a ferry ride into Puget Sound or check out some of the city's excellent parks.Hotel RecommendationsIf you and your girlfriends are most comfortable in a historic setting, then The Fairmont Olympic Hotel is your best bet. If your comfort zone is sleek and contempo rary, then your top choices are Sorrento, Hotel Monaco and W Seattle.Savannah

Savannah is the Old South incarnate, full of cobblestoned streets, historic homes and even horse-drawn carriages. Feast on southern cooking and seafood in River Street’s restaurants, and stick around after dinner for the party atmosphere. Excellent beaches, including Tybee and Hilton Head islands, are within an easy drive.Hotel RecommendationsTraditionalists will love the authenticity of the Ballastone Inn, located in the heart of the historic district. I've been putting off cutting my kids' hair, mostly from fear. Fear that they would be too squirmy and that the scissors would end up in someone's eye, ear, chest... But I decided instead of waiting for my cousin to come over and cut their hair, I would go ahead and just do it.So after feeding them, and while they were still in their highchairs busy stuffing cheerios in their mouths, I whipped the scissors out and much like Edward Scissor Hands I began to cut. They didn't even flinch. They just sat there calm as could be looking up at me as I snipped, snipped away. Although Noah towards the end started to cry, but that was more because of no cheerios being on his tray and "yes.. Mommy I'm getting tired of this chair. Get me out!!"And of course I did save the first cuttings and put it in their own little plastic baggie labeled with their names and the date, so I could put it in their scrapbook later. And yes I took before and after pix. Doesn't every parent do these things?

Noah-Before

Noah-AfterAnd so fear...that evil monster that stops us from spreading our wings and flying, crippled me into immobility and allowed my kids to look like little mop heads. Yes this was a little task but so often we also allow fear to cripple us from doing important things too...things that stifle our dreams; things like starting that new business; talking to strangers about our business; attending that conference; closing that deal; networking and so much more that I could list. All this gibberish from a mom trying to cut her kids' hair...I know it sounds silly. But the most poignant of lessons can be seen in the smallest and simpliest of things.

Networking

Networking is always challenging for me...I have joined many networking groups in the city and I always look for the reaction in the faces of the people I meet when I tell them the nature of my business. The women are usually interested or mortified!I'm a member of a networking group for black professionals in NYC and I recently attended one of thier events. The reactions of the men vary, some are cool with it, some feel intimidated because of their own "short-comings" and others instantly make me feel the need to fight off the stereotypes. Those are the ones that If I was a man who owned a porn store thier reaction would be to ask for my card and give me a high-five, instead of the ogling and instant assumption that I am a nympho! There is so much more to this company, there are programs dedicated to women who have suffered through cancer and teaching them how to feel sexy again, there is a college-tour done every year that focuses on being safe and respecting yourself enough not to sleep around...but all they picture is vibrators! I'm a tough woman, so I can handle it and these reactions always reaffirm for me how much the service I provide is needed! ;-)

Building Relationships

Building relationships are a huge part of direct sales and the most important relationships are with my hostesses and then my customers! Especially considering the personal nature of the products that I am selling. My hostesses are the ones who are allowing me to come into their homes and do a prensation in front of all of their friends and family. The process of building that relationship, for me, starts with our initial conversation. Whether this is someone who has approached me or was given to me as a corporate lead, I always start off by just telling them a little about myself and the benefits of hosting a party and then I just the conversation flow. I have never been a fan of the "being sold" on something so I do my best to never come off like that. Many of the women I have done parties for have never been to a "toy" party and now they are the host! So I do my best to make sure they are always comfortable with the items I will be showing and if there are any items they are not comfortable with, I won't show it! That may surprise some of you, because you may be thinking that that may effect my sales, but it never has, my objective is to make everyone feel comfortable with a very touchy subject and all it takes is one woman to say "EWWWW" :o) to turn everyone off!My customer are next, now since I meet the majority of them the night of the party, this relationship is on speed! :-) One the things I love about Pure Romance is that they require that we always have a private ordering room for our customers, while some don't think this is needed, they are wrong!! This is where the crux of the relationship between myself and my buying customers is built. This is where they get to ask questions that they may not have wanted to ask in front of their friends, mom, auntie, or boss! This also gives them the chance to buy any items they want without judgement from everyone else in the room and I always assure them that the only way anyone will ever know what they bought is if they tell them, it will NEVER come from me!

The Importance of Business Hours

I realized yesterday that part of MY problem is that i didn't have set "business hours". Now I know that as a new entrepreneur that concept is, at times, laughable. In order for the business to grow, sacrifice is necessary. Since I've jumped head first into my business, I could easily make it a 24/7 job. However, I need my sanity in order to be effective with my clients. So starting today, I've implemented business hours. It's still definitely a full-time job +; a full time job based in 2 locations (my home office and the office I where I see clients). I'm hoping with this restriction, I can stop feeling guilty about doing things like taking a walk, going to see a movie, spending time with family/friends (read: taking care of me). This will also help with things like going grocery shopping, catching a matinée of Sex & The City, and watching Divorce Court during the day. Everything was so blended that I had no concept of when I was working and when I was living. Now, I know that these "hours" are not going to be adhered to strictly, just as they weren't in my former lives of teacher and therapist. There will be times when I have to start my day early, end late, and work on the weekend. But at least with some boundaries, I won't burn out and become a small business statistic.www.NatashaCrawford.com

Solutions Health & Wellness is showing support with Solutions Cancer Resource Center,Inc. in giving to others who are facing difficult health concerns. One of the things that we came up with is the care-giver baskets which are given to those who are taking care of a loved one who is terminally ill. Although most care givers just do it without a second thought, they are often overwhelmed with the thoughts of losing their loved one - putting their own selves at the back burner. The idea to give was simply a way to show appreciation -- just to say you are very special and we care about you. It is a treat that brings a smile - a lift in spirits - a moment that makes a difference. A way of showing that they are appreciated - a big 'Thank You!'We have now added gift baskets to the children who are ill and could certainly use a treat (toys, crayons, coloring books, books to read, etc.). Unfortunately, the systems that are already in place are not able to reach everyone. However, we have access and can identify many children who are in need of a special moment of joy. We have reached out to our friends, families as well as businesses and we are pleased with the response. The donations have ranged from sample products, variety of items purchased and already placed in baskets (ready to be delivered), monies(starting at $1). What we have found is that in all the gifts we have received, they were all given with great joy - just knowing that it will make a difference to someone. Nothing can describe the feeling of seeing someone smile or shed a tear of gratitude for receiving a gift basket -- it is truly priceless. As I have heard over the years, it is better to give than to receive. Well, just think of how you feel when you receive a gift especially when you least expect it, wouldn't you love to share that with someone else? I would encourage you as a business owner to give to others who are in need -- no matter how small your gift may seem it will mean so much more to someone. Your business will grow as a result as others recognize that you actually care.If you would like to join with us in helping to make it happen for these very special children who are facing some difficult challenges with their health - you help through paypal using the email address dawn@solutionshealthnwellness.com. If you would prefer to send a gift send an email for the mailing address. Please note that your business/name will be added to the baskets.

Creating Relationships Online

I've been a member of quite a few (read: way too many) message boards in my years on the Internet. Some have been about hair, some about motherhood/moms, some about business. What I've noticed on the business boards, and I know you'll start nodding your head once you read this - sometimes it's worse than the pop-up ads you get when you're surfing. It seems like on certain boards - and I will be truthful: not this one - someone is always trying to 1) sell you a product 2) sell you a report that will make you loads of $$$$ for only seven dollars 3) sell you an E-book that will make all your wildest richest dreams come true.I have nothing against people trying to sell you something. That's why we're all here, right? However, there comes a time when members need to understand what networking is supposed to be. It's not posting on folks pages about the opportunity of a lifetime and how you (or someone you know) made $5 million dollars in within 3 hours of putting this very special system into place. Online networking is about creating relationships with people. As a mom of three, I can't easily pack a suitcase and jet (or drive) off to a networking event. At this time in my children's lives, they come first. However, I try to make up for it by devoting some of my time to communicating with people with like interests online. And believe me, it takes time. In order to truly form relationships and have your personality shine through online, you have to post on a regular basis, participate in varied discussions and really make an effort to get yourself "out there". Just as you wouldn't just give someone your business card, take theirs and not follow up, the same thing goes when you join a board.I remember one board on which it was such a struggle to particpate because all the discussions weren't discussions, just thinly veiled sales pitches for someone's product or service. It's pretty difficult to respond to a post that says, "I love natural products. Have you tried hot lemon juice mixed with corn cobs? It gives you so much energy and you feel brand new. I sell this mixture on my website, check me out at www.gimmeyomoneynow.com.Some tips to building relationships:Visit the profile of new members and post a "hi, welcome to the board! I see you are a XXXXX or you sell YYYYY. Check out the XYZ group, they are also into that." Note, if you want to make them aware of your biz in an unobtrusive kind of way, use a signature banner or put your webbie in your signature.(PS don't post the exact same comment on every person's profile - most likely no one will catch on, but for those who do won't feel "special" any more.)Participate in discussions - just like my online classes, post something meaningful to give people an idea of your personality. Don't just post "I agree" or "yeah, baby". Ask a question, answer a question - give information, give a website that might help. People appreciate the help and will thank you.Be a regular - don't just post a whole bunch of info, then disappear for weeks at a time. People will forget you :) Keep yourself in the loop by visiting at least 2x a week - view this as part of the public relations aspect of your business. Finally, keep it simple. Choose a couple of boards at first then narrow your choice down to the one board that you feel 1) the most interested in 2)the one where you can truly post meaningful discussions/posts and 3)the one that will benefit you...(Believe me I tried to keep up with three-four boards - at one point it seemed like all I was doing was posting on boards!!)I hope these tips help you create and maintain online relationships. Please feel free to add to the discussion.

Miss Snitch Mondays

From now until the April 17, 2009 release date of A Royale Pain: A Draven Atreides, Teenage FBI novel, I will post the unedited version of this book on my author blog. Every month will be a different chapter, but since the chapters are so long--and unedited--I will post a few pages every week. Keep in mind that what you'll be reading is the first draft of Book One, pre-editor and pre-spell check. It's extremely raw, so there will be spelling errors. Just a couple things:1) Comments and opinions are appreciated and may be taken into consideration during the current revision process.2) You will have the opportunity to put your name on the DA Book One Pre-Order Notification List at the end of each post. Being on this list entitles the subscriber to 1) Order autographed copies at a discount and 2) Add a personal message to the person(s) of your choice (if it's a gift)Here's the blurb:A day at the spa can be a “royale” pain.CASE #1: Jean-Pierre Du’Lac, mad French chemistMy name is Draven Atreides and I’m 16-yrs-old. I’ve just started a new gig as an FBI informant and I’ve already got my agenda planned out: Adjust to new life…check. Make new friends…check. Enjoy a day of pampering at a new spa (what a hardship)…check. Try not to tell said new friends that I work for a certain well-known government agency…um…definitely a work in progress.Famous celebrities are checking into hospitals–and it’s not for a rehab stint. French chemist Jean-Pierre Du’Lac is peddling his “specially formulated” products to high class spas and his latest target is celeb favorite, The Royale Treatment Day Spa. Unfortunately, his products cause some nasty side effects and the results are so not pretty. Just when I think I’m hitting a dead end (pun not intended. No death here, people), I get unexpected help in the form of Rader Deschanel. Can you believe this crap? Like this is the last thing I need right now, because I soon find out that he has an agenda of his own. Can I solve my first official assignment without Rader discovering my secret or will my cover be blown?C’mon, come in. I’m on the case.During the month of May, I posted the Prologue. If you missed it, it will be posted on my author blog in its entirety tomorrow. Please note that I will be doing this for the Prologue ONLY as it is a short passage. This month, you will be reading Chapter One.
