Losing YOU is NOT an Option!

It hurts and has been hurting oh so very long!

But still Losing YOU in NOT an Option!

No one knows my pain! No one knows the tears that I cry and have cried!

But still Losing YOU is NOT an Option!

You don't know the load I have to carry from past and present hurt as well as guilt!

But still Losing YOU is NOT an Option!

How about all the times I have to go without because I can't make ends meet and it seems I can never get ahead?

But still Losing YOU is NOT an Option!

I'm lonely, destitute and so very misunderstood!

But still Losing YOU is NOT an Option!

I'm tired of stressing and crying and praying and going around in circles!

But still Losing YOU is NOT an Option!

Seems like no one cares if I exist or not anyway!

But still Losing YOU is NOT an Option

Why?

Because you were created for a purpose and it's hard to see that purpose when all you can see is PAIN. Yes, I know. I have been there many times. Simply put, YOU need YOU in order to get to where YOU need to go. YOUR destiny awaits and although you may choose not to believe this, there are many people who are tied to your destiny and your greatness. They are waiting and needing you to change your perspective of your life by taking your eyes off your issues and focusing on the path of being re-built for the sole purpose of reaching your destiny.

The world needs something that no one can give like YOU. Therefore, get yourself up, shake the dust from your feet and move out of the place of hurt, pain, guilt, anger, depression and resentment. Allow yourself to be placed by our FATHER into HIS hands and allow HIM to put the pieces back together again so that you can RUN on and see what's ahead of YOU! What's to come is so much better than what's been! Believe this… Losing YOU is NOT an Option!

With Love ,

Dr. Nycole P. Lyles-Belton

Raising Him Alone: Single mother parenting

Raising Him Alone: An Interview with David Miller
BMIA Blog: http://bmia.wordpress.com
Written by BMIA Reporter, Vanessa Werts

Across America, in the inner-city and in suburbia, single mothers struggle with raising boys alone. This issue has clearly emerged as one of the most consequential trends facing society today. And David Miller, co-author of the book, Raising Him Alone, is on a personal mission, standing watch, doing his part to support single mothers – Black single mothers in particular – and the positive development of Black males.

During my interview with Miller at the 2010 National Congressional Black Caucus Book Pavilion, his passion was contagious. Miller’s vision is for the well being of everyone involved in the struggle from the son to the mother or caregiver to the absent-father alike. Therefore, it is only natural that he would be co-founder of the Raising Him Alone Campaign, a national movement that executes the foundational principles he and co-author Matthew P. Stevens address in their book [Raising Him Alone].

Single mother parenting was long thought to be primarily an African-American problem, stemming from poverty and poor education. However over the last decade, it has become an epidemic crossing both racial and class lines. “We started the campaign to really focus on Black and Latina moms,” says Miller. “But we get a tremendous amount of calls from White mothers. The issue is beyond an epidemic.”

Miller shared with me insights about the book, the campaign, and the community activities and resources dedicated to inspire and inform the millions of single mothers who struggle daily with the challenges of raising boys.

The David Miller Interview

BMIA: What is the Raising Him Alone campaign about?
D. Miller: The campaign is a movement to provide greater access to resources for single mothers and grandmothers throughout this country.

BMIA: Where does your passion for this movement or your connection to this issue come from?
D. Miller: When I was a freshman in college, my best friend was shot and killed standing next to me and I was 19-years-old. I was at Morgan, he was at Morehouse; some guys tried to rob us...they shot my friend in the back and he died in my arms. And since then I’ve dedicated my life to really improving the lives of children and families in this country. And so, I’m real clear that we’ve got to do this work in our communities, or else we’re not going to make it.

BMIA: When does the campaign kick-off?
D. Miller: The campaign kicked-off in January 2009, however we are still providing a strong front in 2010. We did a major launch in two cities: Baltimore and Newark, New Jersey. I invited some dynamic mothers who’ve raised sons to come and help me kick it off. Common’s [rapper, actor] mother, Dr. Mahalia Hines; Mos Def’s [rapper, actor] mother, Sheron Smith; and Talib Kweli’s [rapper, activist] mother, Dr. Brenda Greene. I brought them on-board to help me launch the two cities, and now we’ve expanded to Chicago and Philadelphia. These are our four main cities. But we’re working in communities across this country really doing some very interesting viable Web-based things like using Facebook to create discussion groups with moms. We’re creating a tremendous movement around serious parenting.

BMIA: What has been the response to campaign?
D. Miller: The response has been absolutely overwhelming. We average about forty phone calls and E-mails a week from mothers who are in some of the roughest parts of say, maybe Memphis, DC, or Newark, New Jersey, to moms that have MBA degrees, PhD degrees from excellent colleges and universities, who got divorced and for whatever reason, dad hasn’t stepped up. And so it’s been an amazing cross-section of parents from different socioeconomic backgrounds.

BMIA: Have you in any way included fathers in the campaign?
D. Miller: Yes. Historically, my background is I’ve written two other books about responsible fatherhood. And so, year one was really to launch the campaign and raise money. Year two has really been focused on launching the largest responsible fatherhood Web site you’ll find in this country which we’re gonna try to connect it with President Obama’s Responsible Fatherhood Initiative. I was in Washington three weeks ago speaking to all of the federal grantees that received responsible fatherhood money. The Web site is going to be for any dad: married dads, divorced dads, military; dads that are incarcerated, to really talk about what does it mean to be an exceptional father. And so dads are an integral part of the campaign.

BMIA: What type of information can single mothers expect from the book, Raising Him Alone?
D. Miller: In the book, we kind of roll out a blueprint of how to raise a son, as well as things like mentoring. Susan Taylor has a national initiative; Michael Baisden has a national initiative on mentoring. The reality is in all those initiatives, we’ve not gotten enough black and brown men to sign up and honor their commitment. So one of the things we talk about is, while we’re trying to find a mentor for the boy, there’s things mom has to do in the home. For example, number one is the boy can never be the man of the house. That’s a mistake that I think mothers make, particularly as boys get to adolescence. Moms say you’re the man of the house because your father is not here. And what happens with a lot of boys is they think because dad’s not here I need to step up and bring money in. So a lot of boys will start steeling cars, selling drugs…

You start to see a lot of pathologies exist because mom has told this 13-year-old that he’s man of the house. So a lot of what we’re trying to do is really work with community-based organizations and work with schools. We’ve created an awesome learning community so mothers can go to our Web site, sign up and they can receive free text messages, free voicemail message about being a good parent…about financial literacy tips. We send out an e-mail blast that goes out to about 11,000 mothers and grandmothers across the country.

We’ve created a Facebook group, Single Mothers Raising Boys, with over 1,000 mothers connected to that. The goal is also connecting mothers to resources, things like mental health; things like credit repair; a lot of stuff on co-parenting. I mean when you look at the divorce rates in our community, we’re in trouble. We’re in serious trouble.

BMIA: Have you had any testimonials on the impact of the work you’re doing?
D. Miller: We’ve had some amazing testimonials. I’ll start with Ms. Mildred, a 74-year-old great-grandmother living in the projects in the West Ward in Newark, raising five boys by herself… hypertension and diabetes. When we went to go interview Ms Mildred, we were able to stop her from getting evicted from her apartment. We were able to connect her to free mental health services for both herself and for those boys. Even though the boys are all under 12-years-old, you started to really see some behavioral challenges with those boys. We can document many of the families that we’ve reached as well as the dads that we’ve reached.

And that’s one of the reasons why we decided to create the fatherhood Web site. We met a brother in Michigan whose children lived in Atlanta, Georgia and we were able to re-connect him with his children. Because he was a long distance dad, we were able to work with him and work with the mom to develop some strategies. One of the first things we did was recommend that the dad buy a cell phone and mail it to the boy so the boy could call his dad. But we had to go through the mom to help her work through her own issues because they didn’t get married to say, this is something that can happen. And so, even being able to work through something as simple as communication with the father and son is another example.

The Raising Him Alone Campaign seeks to create a larger community dialogue around the importance of supporting single mothers raising boys. Through partnerships with a host of organizations, they are mobilizing single mothers and absent-fathers to save our future, particularly our boys.

The siren is blaring. The call to engage the issues in raising healthy, positive boys demands our attention. What price will society ultimately play if this trend continues? The clock is ticking.

Money and Finance expert Deborah Owens (deborahowens.com) shares how Women can build their wealth in this PBS Special (click here if you can't see the video above). Most of the time on SistaSense I talk about how to make money BUT truth be told IF you can't manage your money you won't see much of what you make. I discovered Deborah when she joined Black Business Women Online about a month ago. Shortly after joining the network Deborah took part in my SistaSense Circle, a telecourse group for serious entrepreneurs interested in building successful online businesses. As you can tell from the video above, Deborah Owens is already a published author, finance expert, established business women and successful coach, so why would she join my circle? Believe it or not, any good coach will tell you that you never stop learning. Deborah can teach me a thing or two about finances and money management, because that is her area of expertise. Building social networks and establishing a strong online presence is my strength and through the SistaSense Circle I've been able to provide her and other sistas in the circle with new ways to further expand their presence online. I'll never forget our 1st call together when Deborah said to me she knew she needed a strong online presence and needed to be on social networks BUT it was not until we spoke that she truly understood why these things were important and how they really worked. Building your brand and your business online requires more than simply having a pretty website, which is something many business women discover after they've built their digital spaces. If nothing else, today I wanted to tell you there is always room to learn new things EVEN when like Deborah, you've made it to the top! Moreover, as women entrepreneurs we can all benefit from supporting one another. While I can fix your website, I'll let Deborah show you how to fix your budget! We each have a unique gift to bring to the table. Make sure your gift is alive and present to everyone who crosses your path. Last but not least, I want to formally say THANK YOU to the 10 wonderful women who took part in my first SistaSense Circle last month. In case you were curious, here is what Deborah had to say about the circle... Great one on one coaching session. Loved your ability to keep me focused on specific actionable tactics that I can implement immediately. Your knowledge of Social Media is phenomenal. You get to the “why” of things by telling me not only how to implement but why it makes sense. Now I know why you branded “SistaSense.” You are one smart cookie and as the leading authority on investment literacy, I love getting an immediate return on my investment. - Deborah O. Registration for the next SistaSense Circle is now open, click here for details.

6 Sloppy Speech Habits to Avoid

1. Non-words

Filler words such as “um,” “ah,” “you know,” “OK” or “like” tell the interviewer you’re not prepared and make you sound like a Valley Girl (or Boy). A better strategy is to think before you speak, taking pauses and breaths when you lose your train of thought. Everybody utters an occasional “um,” but don’t let it start every sentence.

2. “Up-Talk”

A singsong or rising inflection at the end of every sentence creates a *tentative impression and makes it sound as though you’re asking a question instead of making a definitive statement. You need to speak with *conviction when selling yourself in an meeting. Bring your intonation down when ending a sentence to avoid talking up.

3. Grammatical Errors

The interviewer may question your education when you use incorrect grammar or slang. Expressions such as “ain’t”she don’t,” “me and my friend” and “so I goes to him” aren’t appropriate. Be sure you speak in complete sentences and that tenses agree. The interview is not the *venue for regional expressions or *informality.

4. Sloppy Speech

Slurring words together or dropping their endings impairs the clarity of your message. To avoid slurring and increase understanding, speak slowly during an interview.

Make a list of commonly mispronounced words, and practice saying them into a tape recorder before the interview. Some common incorrect pronunciations include “aks” for “ask,” “ath a lete” for “athlete,” “wif” for “with” and “dree” for “three.”

5. Speed Talking

While everybody is a bit anxious during an interview, you don’t want your information to fly by like a speeding bullet. A rapid speaking rate is difficult to follow, and speed talkers are seen as nervous. Slow down your racing heart by doing some breathing exercises before the interview.

To avoid rushing, listen to the question, and then count two beats in your head before answering. When you finish a sentence, count two beats again before continuing. Don’t be afraid of silence. Pausing is an effective communication technique. The interviewer needs a few seconds to process what you just said anyway.

6. Weak Speak

Wimpy words modify or water down your *conviction and in the end your position.

When you pepper a conversation with “hopefully,”perhaps,” “I feel,” “kind of” and “sort of,” the message you convey is a lack of confidence. Use power words such as “I’m confident that,” “my track record shows,” “I take the position that,” “I recommend” or “my goal is.” The language you use gives the listener an impression about your level of confidence and conviction.

Getting in to College: Tips for Communicating with College Admissions Officers

Getting accepted begins with getting noticed!

I recently read a
great article by Kerrie Troseth, a guidance counseling expert, on how to build a relationship with your future college admissions department. She recommends that students -- not parents -- make contact first. College admissions officers want to enroll students who are dedicated to pursuing their educations and who show dedication through "demonstrated interest".

So, how do you demonstrate your interest in a college? First, you need to do a little digging and find out why this college interests you. Check out the college's website, read articles and blogs about the campus, and check out campus tour videos. Once you have a pretty good list of questions and topics of interest, you are ready to introduce yourself to the *admissions officer.

How to get on the admissions radar:

* Establish communication: This gets your file started!
* Ask informed questions: Read through the college website and ask specific questions about the admissions process.
* Establish a communication plan with the admissions officer: When should you call or email with additional information?
* Request deadlines for the application and financial aid processes.
* If the college
admissions officer asks about your current high school courses, respond promptly. You should also ask for *AP or Honors course recommendations.

If this college is becoming one of your top college picks, take action and schedule a campus visit.

*Try to get a "custom tour" that focuses on your needs and interests, rather than a standard run-through.

*Get a look
into the facilities where you will be spending your time as a student (science labs for scientists, performance halls for musicians and actors, sports fields or courts for athletes, etc.)

*Pay careful attention
to dining facilities and their inhabitants. You need to know what you are going eat and who you are going to eat with for four years.

*If you have your heart set on your future major,
ask to meet with the department head
and ask questions about your future field of study.

*Tour all of the dorms
and try to visit in the daytime and at night. Communal living is a new experience for most people and you need to see if you can thrive in this type of environment for four years!

*When you find a
college that may be right for you
, see if you can participate in a summer program or camp by registering through the college.

As Kerrie
mentions in her article, most high school students flood admissions offices with applications to colleges they have never even tried to contact before!

My advice: Stand up and get noticed early! Not only will you have a much better shot at "getting in"- you also have a much better idea about the college that you are getting into.

You did it once—can you do it again?

Ladies—

You did it once—can you do it again?

If I have learned anything from working with you all, it’s this: the strongest and smartest businesswomen are those who ask for help when it’s needed. As a Micro CMI winner, I am working hard to take my business to the next level, and because I have already been given so much, I am hesitant to ask for more. I know, however, that Nell (and many of you) would tell me if I don’t ask, none of you have the opportunity to say “yes!” Therefore, I am turning to you, my newfound family, for support.

I recently launched my eBook titled Everything You Need to Know About the Security Clearance Process, But Are Afraid to Ask
and my goal is to make this eBook a “Best Seller.” Toward that goal, I need as many people as possible to purchase the book for $9.99 from on Thursday, September 16, 2010. This price is a one-day only opportunity! Visit my site to place your order: http://www.securityfirstassociates.com/launch/

My purpose for wanting to reach this goal is two-fold: Of course, I have written this eBook to help my business, but I also believe in paying it forward. I desperately want to do something to give back to the organization that gave me a leg up at a critical juncture in the development of my company. To that end, I will be donating a portion of the profits from sales of the eBook to the Count Me In organization. So…when you support me, you are also supporting Count Me In, and together we are all supporting more of the strong, savvy businesswomen out there who want to make a difference.

And, it’s a great book to add to your business reading list. Everything You Need to Know About the Security Clearance Process, But Are Afraid to Ask is a comprehensive but easy to follow how-to guide that teaches you how to get a government security & facility clearance, how to win federal contracts, and the like. It also includes a great list of security acronyms that every company doing business with the Federal Government should know.

You have all come so far on your own and have created a sisterhood like none other, with the power to change lives forever. The phrase “it takes a village” rings true to me. CMI M3, and the unique sisterhood I enjoy through its graces, are proof that many can easily accomplish more than one when they are of like minds and purpose. What better way to make a lasting tribute than by making a small gesture that can pay off in a big way for the one organization that has brought all of us together?

I am excited to see our dedication to this common goal, and appreciate you all for your individual talents and graces. You are each amazing people in your own way, and I look forward to learning many more great lessons from you all.

Sincerely,

Diane Griffin

President/CEO

SecurityFirst & Assoc,

PS Just by purchasing my eBook on Thursday, September 16th, you will not only be helping to support other enterprising female entrepreneurs, but you will also be registered to win a free Kindle! Visit my site for more details: http://www.securityfirstassociates.com/launch/

How to Choose a College

There are so many ways to get information and recommendations on a college--friends, family, college rating guides--but this important decision is best made by you and you alone. So, how to choose? This page is designed to help you become an informed consumer. Use your family and friends for advice, but also do some independent research to identify four to eight schools where you can be happy learning, growing and networking. (To buy books on this subject see: Amazon -- search keywords "choose a college")

Steps to Choosing The Right College:

1. Know who you are and what you want from your college or university experience
* Take the "Values Assessment"
* Do the "Self-Assessment" survey
2. Pick a major or academic focus
.

* Research schools that offer that major or program
* Look at "The Gorman Report"
and

"Rugg's Recommendations On The Colleges"

to learn which colleges are rated "best" for your major
* Do a major search using the Eureka program, or use a
major finder in one of the college guide books
3. Find some schools that fit your criteria
. Sometimes you need to make choices among conflicting *criteria. For example, if you prefer a large urban campus, but the better Marine Biology programs are at rural coastal campuses, then you will have to compromise. See "Getting The Information"
4. Do research on the web.

* ACT CollegeNet - Great College Search link
* California Colleges.edu
- Developed jointly by public and private schools in California and the Department of Education, this site includes college exploration and guidance.
* Campus Tours - virtual tours and a lot more
* The College Board - SAT
information and a great college

search program
* College home pages
* College Opportunities On Line (COOL)
- Department

of Education data base of 9000 U.S. colleges
* Illinois Library Gateway - various college ranking

resources
* Local colleges - in depth information
* Peterson's Collegequest - includes a personal organizer,

practice tests and discussion groups
* Princeton Review
- the student perspective on schools
* US News - ranks colleges on a range of criteria
5. Narrow the choices

* Use "College Choice Worksheet". Call the *Admissions

Office or visit the college web site to find out about

campus tours and open houses
* Schedule an appointment with an admissions

representative. See "Making the Most of The Interview"

* After your visit, complete "Transfer Research Worksheet"
* Send a thank you note to anyone you met in person.
6. Fill out "What Are Your…( goals)"

7. Congratulations on doing a thorough job choosing a

college. Good luck with your applications.

The Transitions Of Black Hair

Black+hair1%5B1%5D.jpg

Absoultely Beautiful!!!

Just Because Its' Black...Don't Mean Its Nappy

For so many years, and even until this day black people believe that we have nappy hair. And for years, and years we believed that there was nothing that could be done about your (so called) nappy hair... but to use harsh chemicals on hair that was never meant to experience such treatment. And yet these chemicals are welcomed into our home as we would welcome a visiting favorite relative. For whatever reason it seems as if we don't mind the harm that is being done by these chemicals, and really our reaction should be the opposite...we should mind this. The chemicals are doing more harm than good drying out and damaging our beautiful, delicate and different hair. Our hair grows out in a coil and we are trying to use a straight tooth comb on coils. Have you seen a coil lately, well let me post a picture of one for you; to give you a better idea of what we are dealing with.

This is and exmple of our hair spring1%5B2%5D.jpgI know the picture is large, but I am going to leave it this size so that we, you, me can see what our hair looks like. And also that we will never again make the mistake and call our hair nappy. Another thing that we say about one another is the term every nation standing to itself. And yes I was once ingorant too and laughed at our people whose hair looked like that (I am a shamed): But now that I have a better understanding of what the problem is and was, and that the problem can also be fixed, I know longer laugh when I see this:) Whenever you see our hair in this condition, where the coil is coiled so tight, that means that that persons hair is very, very dry and thin and their hair needs to be hydrated (read the article on Hydrated vs. Moisturized). If you notice something about knowledge you can have all the knowledge in the world, but until you understand that knowledge you will not be able to apply it properly. I made the above statement because I want us to began to understand ourselves and apply the knowledge properly.

Madam C.J. Walker had an idea which helped her to gain knowledge to apply a hot comb to straighten out these coils. And that was a God send to a peoople who seemed to have hopeless hair. But the hot comb had a flaw, and that flaw was that it could not repel moisture. If the weather held up you could go two weeks with no chance of rain :) do you remember those days. But if we only had the knowledge of how to take care of our natural hair then and knew the difference between a coils and naps we would be that much further ahead with black haircare.

MP9004445181%5B1%5D.jpg

We can have versatile hair without all the harsh chemicals that damage our hair and strip it of the much needed hydration it need in order to be healthy and have a shine so bright that it would actually brighten up the darkness night. We have to come to know that these chemicals seeps into our blood stream thru our pores and poison our blood. So lets learn, so that we can grow.

It’s your world. Blog like it!

Are you blogophobic? Are you one of those people that “don’t get it” when it comes to blogging, social media and the constant internet chatter?

Whether you love or hate technology, it’s something we all must deal with. And if you’re in business, have a ministry or want to be noticed as an author or artist – a blog is a “must have” if you want to be relevant and extend your brand.

A blog (short for web log) is a type of website that functions as an online journal, with the entries usually displayed in reverse chronological order.

As recently as ten years ago, blogs didn’t exist. It's estimated that there are between 50 and 100 million blog readers in the U.S. And according to blogworldexpo.com, Blog readers average 23 hours online each week.

An essential aspect of social media is the idea of staying connected and communicating with an audience. Blogs are about two-way communication – because when you write a blog entry, people can comment. Hence, blogs led the “Web 2.0” revolution!

Besides, blogging is fast, cheap and can be fun! It’s a way to put your personality on display – frequently!

Nickcole Byrd, an ordained minister at Higher Dimension church in Houston, Texas and author of “The Purple Book of Success” says,“Blogging is a creative and surefire way for people to experience you, yourservice and or product. It allows readers to take part in my world as it relates to empowerment and leadership.

As a writer it provides a canvas for me to further develop concepts and ideas for future writing endeavors. Blogging creates an infallible opportunity to leave a writing legacy.”

If you already have a traditional website, you can start a separate blog. There are programs that will automatically display your blog posts on your website. Even if you already have a traditional website, you can still add content pages to your blog to make it more like a website.

Nickcole Byrd creates “blogsites” for ministries. This is a blog that functions as
website but is really a Wordpress blog. She can also attach the blog to a
current website too. (This will increase your Search Engine Optimization
automatically too.)

Byrd created Ministry Marketing Solutions’ website which is really a “blogsite.” She set it up and we update it without any help. No technical skills needed! That’s the beauty of a blog. Anyone can do it!

Each of the entries or articles is called a "post" and the posts are usually updated once or twice a week. They are never long posts (about 300 words). Sometimes posts are lists of favorite things or links, a video from Youtube, a comment on current events or an interesting photo with a tag line.

Whatever you are passionate about, that’s what you blog. Before you set up your blog, think about what you like most – do you want to write opinion, teach theology, do videos, create conversation, or just have a place share your creative content – songs, sermons, devotionals, etc. It’s your blog – there are no rules!

“To connect with audiences today, you need to stop pushing your message out and start pulling your customers in with good content that spreads virally via social media. And there is no better tool for this than the blog, said Byrd.

“Blogging gives you a strategic way of marketing and influencing buyer’s decisions to buy products or buy into your ideas. When you post good content, it’s a key way to position yourself as an expert and thought leader. Websites give your validity online – but blogs build your brand and connects to your core audience consistently,” she concluded.

Essential Steps to Selecting a College

Chances are, picking a college may be the most important decision you've made so far. With more than 3,000 institutions of higher learning in the United States alone, it can seem overwhelming.

But here's the good news: There are scores of outstanding colleges and universities nationwide, plus lots of information available on how to select one that's right for you. You can start your selection process with a few simple steps:

Identify your must-haves.

Ask yourself some serious questions:

Do I want to attend a large university or a small

college?

Do I want my school to be in a rural, suburban, or urban setting?

Do I want to live close to home? What can I afford?

Will my family help pay for my education?

Do I want to live on campus or commute? What do I want to major in?

Answering these questions will go a long way toward helping you create a list of schools that meet your *criteria.

Develop a list of contenders. Make an appointment with your college counselor and describe the things you want from a school. Based on what your counselor knows about you, he or she might have some great suggestions. Get ideas from family and friends. And, avail yourself of our free Web-based college matching service, My College Options. Spend a few minutes completing your personal profile and My College Options will provide you a list of colleges in order of compatibility. (Hint: You can redo your profile and search criteria as often as you change your mind! No charge.)

Request information. If you haven't already requested brochures and applications through My College Options, call or email your top schools and ask for admissions packets. Spend some time looking at your schools' glossy view books and Flash-enabled websites; you'll find that each school has its own personality. (As you read, remember each college is trying to put its best foot forward.) And supplement the material you receive from colleges with information from college guides, conversations with current students, friends, family, and counselors.

Narrow your list and apply. Spend time talking with your parents about which schools they would like you to consider. Also, have the money talk; ask your parents how much they will contribute financially toward your higher education. If you and your parents disagree about school choices, listen to their points, explain your side, and try and develop a "consensus list". There's no rule about how many schools you should apply to. Some people apply to as many as a dozen; others send in one application only. (Keep in mind that most colleges request application fees, usually around $50. So applying can get expensive.)

It may also be helpful to divide your top choices into "reach" schools—those that might be a stretch financially or academically; mid-range schools where you're likely to get in but aren't sure; and safety schools—the sure bets. A good rule of thumb: Apply to three reach schools, three mid-range school, and two safety schools.

I would like to thank you for the Starters Kit I won in your contest. I have went through every piece of material you pass down to include videos. This was a lot of help to me and it highlighted my thought process in understanding low cost budgeting when advertising and marketing. After retiring from the military in 2007 I was completely lost to the marketing and advertising strategy in Corporate America and how to include it in my own personal life. The military way of marketing and advertising was simple. But the civilian way of doing things was a little more complex and frustrating. Especially when the product you are selling is unique. I am a Christian Author (Writers of Christian Faith) of eBooks on PDF and kindle download and trust me your lessons have taught me alot. I have purchased a few of your products in the past which geared me in the right direction however, I have learned even more with the material you pass down. Because of you I made my first You Tube video. I should be finish some time this week. You have a different style in the way you produce your material. The one thing I love the most is you ask for feedback. You want to make sure the listener understand and grasp the concept. I graduated with my masters in Management in 2009 and I must admit I learned more from you then I did in school. School deals with textbooks and stats on paper, on the other hand you deal with life experiences and being able to figure out what consumers want and how to present it to them in various ways because you are dealing with various people. This can be hard because you have to present the same product but to different people which posses different personalities. I am still going through a process of learning and I will check back from time to time to tell my accomplishments under your teachings. God Bless you and once again thank you!

p.s. Once my contract is up with my host I will be using you to design my next site. I love your design and style. Getting ready to make changes to my site now to change and add a few things. Writers of Christian Faith is a new facebook started. I pray membership grows.

The Basics Of School Loans

At one time all you needed was a high school diploma in order to attain a good occupation. Nowadays, it's a different story, a college degree is virtually mandatory for any type of good-paying occupation. Alas, college is extremely costly. Even when you attend a state school with discounted in-state tuition, college costs frequently surpass those of autos and houses. Although most families don't have the funds to *ante up for a multi-year college education, assistance is obtainable in the form of a *school loan.

The school loan is available in two different flavours. The need-based school loan is for people who need help with paying for an education and are configured to meet part of the educational costs. The non-need based loan helps to pay a share of the family contribution when cash is tight.

For both graduate and undergrad pupils, the *Fed Stafford Loan offers up a simple-interest, *collateral-free, government secured school loan. While the student remains in school, interest accumulates at a lesser rate. The rate of interest is fixed and doesn't adjust up or down during this time. Once the Stafford school loan is taken out, there is a rate of interest ceiling that's imposed. At no time during the lifetime of the loan can the rate of interest rise above this ceiling. When the student leaves school or graduates, they're afforded a six-month goodwill period before they have to *commence repayment of the loan.

The Federal PLUS school loan, or Parent Loan for undergrad Students, is akin to the Stafford loan. Its non-need based, and is also no-collateral, simple interest, and government secured. PLUS loans permit parents of undergraduate students to borrow up to the full amount of college costs, less any fiscal aid, grants, or scholarships. PLUS loans are up to ten years in length and there is no penalization to prepay the loan in full. Parents can start payment while the student is still registered in school.

These loan options occasionally don't cover every cent of all college expenses. When there is a gap between loans and true costs, alternate loans may be looked for. A lot of lenders offer up private student loans that are *akin to the government student loans. They have low rates, no charges, deferred payment, and multiple repayment choices. A different option is for parents to borrow against their house equity to finance college training.

Although this alternative offers income tax advantages, a home equity loan doesn't have the same sort of flexibility as federal student loans. For instance, when fiscal hardship arises, federal student loans may be placed in *forbearance. Home equity loans cannot. Besides, loans can be consolidated into one student school loan that has adaptable repayment choices. Home equity loans commonly only have one repayment option.

Learn a lot more about school funding at school loans.

By James Hunaban

The Student Loan

The rising costs of college tuition have made it almost a necessity to apply for a student loan today. Students not only have tuition costs, but the cost of books, meals, gas, cell phones, recreation, etc. The variety of student loans enables students to take care of their varying college expenses. A student loan however, is a loan that must be repaid under specified circumstances.

Each of the following are student loans with differing conditions and time frames for repayment:

A Direct Student Loan is a loan with a schedule of repayment six to nine months after the student has completed school. The Direct Student Loan is distributed through the school the student is attending, which enables the interest rates to be much lower than a Guaranteed Student Loan.

Guaranteed Student Loans, also known as Stafford Loans have a low interest rate. A student can apply for a subsidized or unsubsidized student loan. A subsidized loan means the government pays the interest for you while you are in school. The subsidized student loan is based on the students financial need. An unsubsidized student loan means you will be charged interest while you are attending school. The principal must start being paid after you have finished school. Both types of student loans need to start repayment six months after the student has finished college.

Federal Parent Loans or PLUS loans as they are known is a student loan not contingent on your income, but lenders do consider personal credit history. Parents or guardians who have a dependent child enrolled in college at least part-time are eligible for the PLUS loan. The interest rate is 9% or less.

Virtually any school or program will allow you to utilize the Direct Student loan, Guaranteed Student loan or PLUS loan. It is very important to thoroughly research all available options for funding long-term education. Your future is tied to your funding, which is your student loan.

All about the FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is the main application for most federal aid programs. The FAFSA seeks to determine an individual’s ability to pay for college, and according to the Department of Education, the previous year’s tax information leads to the most accurate assessments. Questions will be asked requiring both your 1040 and your W-2’s, so (if you have them) you will need both those documents to complete the FAFSA.

In the winter or spring before you are set to begin college, you will need to complete a FAFSA on the Web in order to apply for federal aid. Applications are available on January 1 each year, and you’ll have to do a new application for each year you are in school. FAFSA deadlines vary by state and can occur as early as the February before the first semester in which you’re requesting financial aid.

If you are an *undergraduate student who is under 24, isn’t married, doesn’t have kids, and is neither a veteran nor a foster child or emancipated minor, you will need to use your parents’ tax information as well as your own, regardless of who is responsible for paying your tuition. However, if you are *estranged from your parents, it may be possible to *appeal through your school’s financial aid office. Appeals can also be made based on changes in your financial situation not reflected in your previous year’s income taxes, such as the loss of a job. WWW.FAFSA.GOV

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants Scholarship ID: 93063

Scholarship Description: The FSEOG Program provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduate students to promote access to postsecondary education. Students can receive these grants at any one of approximately 4,000 participating postsecondary institutions. Institutional *financial aid administrators at participating institutions have substantial flexibility in determining the amount of FSEOG awards to provide students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment. Priority is given to those students with “exceptional need” (those with the lowest expected family contributions at the institution) and those who are also Federal Pell Grant recipients. Financial need is determined by the U.S. Department of Education, using a standard formula to evaluate the financial information reported on the FAFSA and to determine the family’s expected family contribution (EFC). After filing a FAFSA, the student receives a Student Aid Report (SAR), or the school receives an Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR), which provides the EFC.
