Make sure that they are pleasing to the eye and express exactly what your blog is about. Include the website address (hopefully a custom domain), your name, email address, and the general subject matter of your site.

Attending a conference can be as productive as you plan it to be. You will gain opportunities to communicate with many people, be inspired by great ideas, excited about future of your business and empowered to move your business forward.To have the most successful experience, here are “6 Simple Tips to Prepare for a Business Conference.”
Tip 1: Preplan your Day
Most conferences require a full day of your time. It is important to look and feel your best; wear appropriate and professional attire and comfortable shoes. At past conferences, I’ve seen women walking bare footed at the end of the day. Not a good look!
Tip 2: Pick your Sessions
If the conference agenda is available in advance, take time to map out a strategy to select sessions that are most beneficial to improve your skills. At each session, actively participate by asking questions and taking notes. Spend a few minutes after the presentation to introduce yourself to the presenter.
Tip 3: Practice your Pitch
You will meet a lot of people and have the opportunity of introducing yourself and business. Make sure your message is clear and concise. Fine tune your elevator pitch to make the most of your meeting.
Tip 4: Prepare to Network
This is a great opportunity to network with people. The key is to meet new business contacts. Depending on the size of the conference, make sure you visit the exhibitors and sponsors who might be prospective vendors or clients.
Tip 5: Bring Plenty of Marketing Material
The purpose of attending a conference is to market your business, right? So, why not have a professional brochure, flyer and or business cards. At the very least, have plenty of business cards to pass out.
With that being said, make sure the information on your business cards is accurate to avoid crossing out and handwriting your updated information. Remember, image is everything! A helpful suggestion, jot some details of people you meet on the back of their business cards to remember later.
Tip 6: Follow Up
Within the next week, make sure you follow up with e-mails, phone calls or a simple letter. The key is to connect with potential people that can be beneficial to your company.
In conclusion, by deciding on the bottom line results you want to achieve, whether meeting certain presenters, attendees or vendors or attending a specific session, make sure you get a great return on investment or ROI.

College Scholarships: Athletic Scholarship Application Checklist
Want to play college ball, and get a college *scholarship for doing it? There are a number of requirements you must first fulfill, and a number of things you can do to ensure that you're on a prospective school's radar. Follow these steps to improve your chances of snagging athletic university scholarships.
Contact the school formally
Once you have made a list of the schools you're interested in, get the names of the head coaches and write to them. When you do, include:
· A factual resume of your athletic and academic accomplishments
· 10-to-15 minutes of video highlights (with your jersey number noted)
· Letters of recommendation from your high school and off-season coaches
· Your season schedule
Ace the interview
When you meet with a recruiter or coach, be sure to offer a firm handshake and maintain eye contact. According to recruiters, the most effective attitude is quiet confidence, respect, sincerity, and enthusiasm. These are qualities they'll want to see on the court and on the field.
Ask good questions
Don't think that you should refrain from asking questions. Not only will you impress the recruiter -- you’ll get the information you need to make the right decisions about your athletic and academic future. Such questions might include:
· Do I qualify athletically and academically?
· If I were recruited, what would the parameters of the college scholarships be?
· For what position am I being considered?
· What level of interest do you have in me?
Follow up
Timing is everything. There are four times when a follow-up letter from you or your coach can be extremely effective in procuring student scholarships:
· Prior to the senior season
· During or just after the senior season
· Just prior to or after announced signing dates (conference-affiliated or national association)
· Late summer, in case undergraduate scholarships offered to other athletes have been withdrawn or declined
Just like in sports, success with college scholarships is about persistence. Give it your all, and there’s a good chance it will pay off.

I replied to a question this week on LinkedIn and thought I’d share my thoughts with you on the topic of mentoring. Here is a short excerpt from the comment and subsequent question submitted:“I don’t know how to navigate the professional world. It is like I am an outsider looking in. As an African American woman, I don’t have any willing connections in my family. I am actively networking, taking classes to gain new skills, writing blogs, and interning; this way I can groom myself into the professional I want to be…”
My answer went like this:
Thank you for your note & for expressing your challenges so honestly. I will share that I have been mentored and I have mentored. In most cases where I was on the receiving end, I actively pursued the
relationship. There have been both good AND bad experiences on either
side – I chose to learn from both.
One of the conversations that came out of the recent Women of Color Career Success telesummit I hosted focused on the topic of mentoring and where to find them. There were 3 strategies highlighted from the panel:
“Mentoring” was very loosely defined in each case but the ultimate message was that you can learn from just about anyone’s experiences.
Lastly I will add these tips:
* Don’t be intimidated to ask anyone you have identified as a possible mentor for you. The worst they can do is say no. * You should not expect
someone else to invest in you what you don’t invest in yourself and
others. Definitely look at ways you can mentor and give back. * And if
you happen to run into that not-so-great experience, you can learn
lessons from that too. It just may be “what not to do”.
I hope others will chime in and offer their advice and perspectives on your questions.

The web is full of marketing solutions for internet entrepreneurs, but if you ask me, the only thing most online entrepreneurs REALLY want to know is why other people are NOT buying their stuff. Making more sales and more money is (real talk) what we all want, which is why I decided to create this quiz.
This is actually just a series of questions that I want you to ask yourself. You can answer the questions in your head, but I think its best if you write your answers down. I personally like to get thoughts out of my head and SEE them on paper; this makes the process more real and easier to compute.
Here are the questions:
1) Have you ever bought something from me. (Seriously, that is the 1st question).
This is not a sales pitch (lol), you WILL understand this question soon enough.
2) If your answer to question #1 was "no" then skip this question. If "yes" ...
a) How long did you follow me before you bought something?
b) What did you buy?
c) What motivated you to make your purchase?
d) Was it something I said or something you heard?
3) If you have never bought something from me, give at least 1 to 3 reasons why.
Alright that is the entire quiz! Fast huh? OK let's talk about your answers. At first your might think my response is all about me (lol), but you'll get the idea of where this is going soon enough. If you have never bought something from me, I want you to think about why. Are you not familiar with my products or services? Do you think you can't afford them? Don't trust me? Don't need what I got? Don't find value in what I'm offering? Perhaps you want to get ALL my stuff, but you are waiting for a discount, freebie, or something you can read? You can be honest (nobody knows the REAL truth but you).
Think about exactly why you haven't bought something from me and in your response you will find the answer to why other people aren't buying from you. As simple as this concept is, believe me when I say that most webpreneurs DO NOT GET IT. Most of them (maybe you) think that even though they are not buying STUFF online OTHER PEOPLE will buy their stuff. They honestly believe their buying patterns are significantly DIFFERENT from the target audience they are trying to reach. BUT HERE IS THE BIG NEWS ... its not. The same things that are holding you back from buying from me OR anybody else online are just A FEW things holding others back from buying from you. Make sense?
Now lets say you have bought something from me (woo hoo!). Well how long did it take you to buy something? Have you been lurking in my circle for years, trying to see if I'm legit or just another marketer? Did you wait for a deep discount before you bought? Did you hear someone say, "you just gotta buy this now!" OR was it something in my marketing that spoke to you and motivated you to buy?
If you followed me for 2 years before you bought... If you went in circles trying to figure out what to buy BUT then eventually made a purchase ... If you kept your ear to the ground and waited to hear what other people had to say about me until you trusted me ... THEN KNOW THIS ... that is exactly what people are doing with respect to you, your products, and your services.
Whether you bought from me or not, you have GOT TO UNDERSTAND ... PEOPLE ONLINE ARE JUST LIKE PEOPLE OFFLINE ... they are going to ONLY BUY what they want when they want it. The internet isn't a magical space where money flows out of other people's pockets and into your own. SO HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY THEN? HOW DO I MAKE MONEY IF YOU AREN'T BUYING FROM ME?
That is the real question you should be asking yourself. The answer on the surface is one I am sure you have heard. You have to build relationships, build your buzz, build your brand ... BUT WHAT DOES ALL THAT REALLY MEAN. Perhaps after reading a few articles and/or listening to some marketing gurus on youtube, you THINK you have a handle of what this means, BUT UNLESS you are actually making SALES RIGHT NOW... you don't. (Sorry to be so blunt, but its the truth).
I've learned a few things about making sales online. Getting Folks to buy means:
- Being Patient
- Not Getting Pissed Off When You Share Your STUFF With Everybody and nobody bites
- Knowing exactly when AND what people want to buy
- Knowing how much people in your target audience are willing to pay for what you are selling
- Knowing what real customer service is and how to keep people happy
- Not losing faith because people don't bite when you posted a few links in forums (it ain't that easy)
- Not being so naive as to assume you can make money without spending time OR money on your business
- Not thinking you can teach yourself how to make money online when you are NOT making any
- Having people in your circle who want what you have and GET what you are about
- Having a list of solid marketing strategies that consistently work for you
- Finding new marketing strategies that can improve your sales
- When you say you are TOO BROKE to invest in yourself that energy translates into others NOT investing in you
Why do People Buy My Stuff?
For starters, I have spent A LOT of time analyzing when and why people DO NOT BUY. I learned a long time ago that you CAN NOT do the same thing and expect different results SO increasing your marketing, going on more social networks, trying to drive more traffic IS NOT going to work if the people who are currently looking at your stuff are not buying. You have to fix the "why they DON'T BUY" issue if you want to make REAL Sales. That being said, I've tried a TON of different ways to make sales in THAT PROCESS I discovered strategies that WORK especially with my target market (black business women online).
I am as real, transparent and authentic as I can possibly be. Folks see enough 'BS' online worth ignoring. I've been able to build my visibility thus far by proving to people that I actually know what I am talking about and NOT being afraid to just keep it simple. I don't call myself a million dollar diva and I haven't hit six figures yet (lol). I don't post pictures of me in front of big houses or fancy cars. I've never professed to have or know anything beyond those things that have allowed me to build a steady, lucrative, personally full filling and financially rewarding online business. If you are putting out an image of you online that isn't a reflection of your authentic self, don't be fooled into believing people can't see the REAL YOU. As I always say, "people have to buy what you say before they will buy what you sell." If they are NOT buying you, that's part of the problem.
As for me...
- I'm not afraid to take risks.
- I've been doing this for years.
- I may cry a little when things don't work, but I dust myself off and keep going.
- I know Oprah is no different than me. Its all about drive and determination.
- I don't TELL FOLKS about my drama.
- I keep it professional and about business all the time.
- I am not afraid to share what I know.
- I give information. I give of my time. And people GET me because of my desire to GIVE.
- I have customers who like me and tell other people about me.
- I have systems and marketing strategies that clearly work for me (I AM A WORK AT HOME MOM)
- I never waited for someone to do STUFF FOR ME or GIVE ME ALL THE ANSWERS.
- I understand that people ONLY buy when they are ready.
- I figured out how to make extra money from adsense, ad sales, and affiliate marketing.
- I always try to do something new.
- I always stick to the old things that work and NOT get distracted by trends.
- I'm STILL HERE.
If you are still trying to figure out why people aren't buying from you, let me ask you this. Why haven't you joined my sista circle, and learned exactly how I get people to buy from me online? Scholarship Description : The Texas Legislature established the TEXAS (Towards EXcellence, Access and Success) Grant to make sure that well-prepared high school graduates with financial need could go to college.

Who can apply? Students who...
For an initial award
* Are Texas residents
* Have not been convicted of a felony or crime involving a controlled substance
* Show financial need
* Register for the Selective Service or are exempt from this requirement
* AND
o Be a graduate of an accredited high school in Texas not earlier than the 1998-99 school year
o Complete the Recommended High School Program or Distinguished Achievement Program in high school
o Enroll in a non-profit public college or university in Texas within 16 months of graduation from a public or accredited private high school in Texas and
o Have accumulated no more than 30 semester credit hours, excluding those earned for dual or concurrent courses or awarded for credit by examination (AP, IB or CLEP).
* OR
o Have earned an Associate Degree from a public technical, state or community college in Texas and
o Enroll in any public university in Texas no more than 12 months after receiving their Associate's Degree.
When should students apply? Deadlines vary by institution, but fall and spring grants are generally awarded in the spring prior to enrollment.
How do students apply? Awards will be made through the financial aid office of the college. Persons interested in the program should contact the financial aid office to find out about deadlines and procedures.
Where can I get additional information? Your eligibility for this program is determined by the financial aid office at your college.

Ohio Newspapers Foundation Minority Scholarship
Three scholarships for minority high school seniors who plan to pursue a newspaper journalism career. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Ohio College or University.
Must be African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American or American-Indian.
A minimum high school GPA of 2.5 required.
Deadline: March 31.
Academic/Career Areas: Journalism.
Award Scholarship for use in freshman year; not renewable
Number: 3.
Amount: $1500.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black (non-Hispanic), or Hispanic; high school student; planning to enroll or expecting to enroll full-time at a four-year institution or university; resident of Ohio and studying in Ohio.
Applicant must have 2.5 GPA or higher. Available to U.S. citizens.
Application: Requirements application, autobiography, essay, transcript.
Deadline: March 31.
