Design the Relationship you want.I have found that a lot of the same things that work for me in business also work for me in my relationship with my husband. For the last 6 months my husband and I have been consciously making plans, going over contracts, scheduling meetings and doing revisions. Sounds, boring... not at all.Just like in business you must have a written plan, that is something to measure your progress by. When things are not working out one of us, whomever has noticed it first may say, "we need to take some time out and talk," this is what I am referring to when I say have meetings. And our meetings are not necessarily formal, they may take place anytime, whenever we get the chance, in the morning, in bed or over the phone, but the point is we talk about the situation (conducting our meeting) and if we find we need to revise the plan, we do it. We may disagree on what exactly needs to be revised but that is just what happens in a board meeting, but eventually there is a consensus and we go from there. And just like in business when you must take the client out to lunch or dinner, you must do that same for your spouse or significant other. In business we don't expect to treat the client in an uncaring manner and then believe that you are going to keep their business. So I say remember to treat your partner the same.The point to all the above is that you have to plan your life and even if you are a single person that eventually wants to get married. You may not get it right on the first attempt. Do it anyway, and you'll soon figure it out. People are likely to come up with all sorts of reasons why it will never work. Work on it anyway, and commit yourself to handling each challenge as it comes. Something unexpected will probably happen, in your life, in your industry, or in the world at large, that will cause many of your assumptions to be incorrect. Move forward anyway, because you are perfectly capable of adjusting to changing conditions. It's possible that you won't get the results you expected. Learn from the results you do get, and with your newfound knowledge you'll discover ways to achieve even better results than you first expected.There is no good reason to deny yourself the opportunity to accomplish whatever you choose to accomplish. Life is about making a difference, and you will never run out of ways to do that.Whatever has happened, whatever they say, whatever the state of the weather or the economy may be, move forward anyway. I attempt to approach life's trials with a spiritual point of view. I think that most people can give introspective concepts and ideas. I thought when I write, people are on the same page as me. But I have been wrong, one too many times, lately. I never said anything with malice or contempt unless I intentionally do it with strong statements.Lately, I have had to tell someone I have not met in person and only known on the internet that "I hated him, period". Then he started lunacy about calling me "mental unstable"... Maybe I should be grateful, because he will not mess with me if he thinks that...Then, I had to read some lunacy that we need to wholeheartedly forgive convicted child pedophiles because some "parents raise their children to be cute, and when they sit on a pedophiles' laps and how that might around him or her". First, I am shocked a Pastor of God would say that. Second, I did not merit a retarded comment like that from anybody. Third, when questioned, the logic and comments made by this "man of God" attempted to justify why we have to forgive--not mentioning how a convicted sex offender ought to be an adult and say, no, I cannot stay with you...Lastly, my first love when I was a young adult has been my Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I have been an active member for almost 20 years. I PLEDGED when it was legal, above ground. It was hard for me to join Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. when I did. But I chose to be resilient and hold on to my dreams and joined when I was college. I have served at several levels for my Sorority since I joined and I have been grateful for the experiences I have received. However lately, due to financial circumstances, I can not serve at a local level and ONLY at the International Boule level. Which is fine for me right now. Eventually, I might go back to my local chapter.My issue is how is ANYONE who is NOT a member of my Sorority is going to speak about any membership related activity after all the stuff I have done? WTH? Too many interjections by the peanut gallery. Bears no relevancy to the organization overall. People are too concerned about what is on someone else's plate than what is one their own! Or, to make it relevant, how can you say to another, let me take that speck out of your eye when you have a board in your own...Lately, it just does not seem that these "negroes" are to swift or they aren't the sharpest tools in the chest... The are too worried about keeping up appearances rather than serving the community, by rolling up their sleeves and making the critical changes needed. And this is not a one-time deal. This is supposed to be once a week helping people. More than just reading a story to disadvantage kids every now and then... About confirming passing state exams so they graduate. More than just moving dirt around one day at Habitat for Humanity, how about those engineers, like NSBE, designing "green" structures for them as a challenge. More than just testing blood and pee for diseases. How about, making sure people have the facts about these diseases and coaching them to making better health choices. More than participating in that random cancer walk for one day. How about serving on the walk committee?I have hyper-extended myself to communicating these issues to these "negro organizations" and I am fed up!If we want a place at the table, no amount of protesting is going to help. Not even our President Barack Obama or First Lady Michelle Obama is going to change the exorbitant amount of work that needs to be done for all Americans--which essentially means, we get left behind--unless we start busting out butts and get out there just like we did for the vote. Not this election, but ALL elections. Maybe running election centers and installing election devices... How about that. Over and beyond!!!I am tired of "negroes" taking credit for areas they only bought a bootleg sticker for today. What happened to the "trailblazers"? I guess they got old, like Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowrey or the Tuskegee Airmen... All of those older gentlemen fought and died so that we could have a PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!Neither brother or sister is getting this, until it is too late. But there are a few of us. Some call us the 5 percenters. Some lead us to newer and rarer Earths. Then some, like myself are left alone, biding there time, when one day, somebody "discovers" the quintessential changes that I discovered in my areas of expertise, and maybe I might get lauded. Then, bandwagoners or groupiesm starts... However, my task put before me is NOT about fame or fortune, while that would be nice, it is about doing right for those I serve and pursuit of perpetuity.Mind you, the path I have chosen in my life is daunting, but if I don't do it, who will? If not now, when? If not me, then who? Why wait? I know I am not the smartest, the brightest, the most faithful or "holiest". I am not the prettiest, the fastest or the loving kindness-nest. But I have passion and desire to seek justice for my cause. And I will do whatever it takes without soul compromising, to ensure that justice.And if I am judged by "negroes" who have done little but to talk about others rather than ideas, then hey, I get judged and I cannot let that deter me on this quest!For, as Roman 8:31 says, "if God is for me, who can be against me"?Just keep ordering my steps, Lord... What are we selling?

Greetings everyone!

My introduction and understanding of legal marketing came from a criminal defense attorney who took a risk hiring someone with no legal marketing background.

The first question he asked me on my first day was, “What are we selling?” I had not a clue. I told him legal services and then he said. “Hell, I went to school seven plus years for people to already understand that.”

The mood in his office was serious, he was not laughing. Then calmly he stood up, motioned me with his right arm and said, “Come walk with me.” We ventured just outside the office door and then he asked me to tell him the exact number of solo lawyers on this block alone. Didn’t know what to say, I saw six, but he made me feel like it was a trick question. His demeanor was stern and all I could see was his eyebrows extending towards me as if there was static in his brows. I just wanted to take a dryer sheet to his brows. I finally told him six. There are six firms on this block alone. He explained, “We each have a law degree and are members of the Bar association and are qualified to practice law. What sets each of us apart is our ability to generate confidence from the community and the public in general. Some of us are able to and others are not, just as any business. What we are selling is confidence."

He asked did I have any questions, passed me a book on guerrilla marketing and told me to read the first three chapters and tomorrow we would discuss them. Out of everything he taught me over four years, that day was the most important. When you are asked what are you selling? Whether you sell a product or service remember you are really selling confidence.

So I decided to finally cut the fabric I posted on my blog months ago and came up with this. I cut out Albert and Bucky out and appliqued them to the front of this black cotton twill tote. The straps are longer than my usual straps and have a drop of 14 inches. This tote fits comfortable over your arm and hangs close to your hip. It is okay towant to be recognized, but not to the extent that you will do anything forrecognition, to the extent of committing a sin or hurting someone in to get whatyou want.A mind fixated on the world system and the flesh is what leads to anxiety,worry, emptiness, and restlessness.Colossians 3:1-2 tells us:If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, whereChrist is, sitting at the right hand of God. You have to take controlof your mind and make it do what it should do by a determination of yourwill. Your will is in the mind area.Romans 12:1-2 tell us what to do with our minds and with our flesh.I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present yourbody a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God which is your reasonableservice.And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing ofyour mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect willof God.I know we can renew our minds, but we have to be forever thinking about God andHis great love for mankind. Because if you don't, you will think more in linewith the world than with the things of God. You have to understand that the bodyalways wants to gratify the flesh. You have to train the body, make it do whatyour spirit wants, kill it, sacrifice it. And sacrifice is not fun, but it isthe joy of the Lord you want.Ephesians 4:21-24 tells us to be renewed in the spirit of our mind. It is ourresponsibility to do something about our minds. Once a person has been convertedand becomes a new man, he is to focus his thoughts on God, as well as the goodthings of life. We, as Believers, should never dwell on immoral, fleshly,worldly, selfish, sinful or evil thoughts. Sinful and negative thoughts disruptand destroy our peace. The mind always goes down to the level of the flesh, butwe have to control it because we live in the flesh and that is the thing wegravitate to. And that is why we need to operate in the Word of God in order tocontrol our thinking, which will control our flesh.

We have a very close and dear friend of ours who every year as weapproach the New Year talks about how that upcoming year is "goingto be the very best year of his life."Yet, every year for the last few years, within the first 3 months,those "dreams" are long forgotten and he is in a "survival" modeand doing nothing on a daily basis to have "the very best year hehas ever had."The very best diets almost always start "Tomorrow".The very best exercise programs always start "Tommorow"."Tomorrow" is the day you begin to build your real estate fortune.The biggest robber of dreams and a life you have always wanted tolive is simply what you are planning to do..."Tomorrow".The miracle that you seek to have lies in what you do TODAY, notwhat you plan to do "Tomorrow".The truth is that Tomorrow is not promised to any one of us and ourlife story is being written day by day by what actions we aretaking today, right now.Time sure is a vapor. Putting myself back on the list!

I watch Oprah a few weeks ago and one thing I remember her saying she was “putting her self back on her to do list”. I got so caught up in building a business, developing a new marriage, that I put myself on the bottom of the list. I quit exercise, stop preparing healthier meals and started eating fast food! Because I stop taking care of me I gain over 30 pound (WOW) just to say that is painful but I am not ashamed! Before the New Year had begun I started getting back in the grove of exercising and taking steps to eating better.I am putting myself first on my two do list. I get up in the morning and I go to God before I do anything. Through prayer, reading the bible, listen to great biblical teaching on God word, it has help me for two weeks to maintain my exercising routine and today I started running! WOW I thank God for the will and the strength to get my health were it should be both spiritually and naturally. Have a Plan for Promoting Your Business

In a tough economy like this it's critical for small business owners like us to have a "promotional plan." The only way your business will stand out from the competition is if you purposefully work at raising the profile of your company. The only way you will do that consistently is with a plan.Here are some quick "affordable" tips:1. First, make sure you have a marketing plan that indicates who your target market is, what you unique selling point is (the advantages of your firm over the competition) and the kinds of tactics you want to employ to raise your profile (those tactics might include some or all of the following points). Also include a timeline in your plan and measurements that you'll employ to determine if what you're doing is actually working!2. Launch a media relations campaign since that's the best free exposure that you can get. Generate a list of media that your target market reads/follows; include in that list the names of the reporters/editors/producers who cover your particular issue at various media outlets - from newspapers, to radio and TV programs, to magazines.3. Do some research and identify the top 5 business/web 2.0 networks where your clients are likely to be found...then JOIN and participate in discussion in those networks. Make sure you offer helpful, useful information and not just promotions about your service or product. If you hate it when you get bombarded with someone's promo for their business, trust me others (like me) will hate it too. So don't do it.
