Bios for your business

Whether you’re a freelancer or a business owner, one thing you need is a good biography. What is a bio? It’s basically a “story-based” version of info you would put on your résumé. A bio is not as formal as a résumé, and it gives you the ability to showcase interesting tidbits about yourself while highlighting your personality. The main reason to write a bio is to give your readers and prospective clients a good sense of who you are and what you do. It also confirms your skills and shows your credibility and experience. You can use a bio on your website and blog, in your marketing materials, for speaking engagements or presentations and with any books, e-books, documents or reports. So, what do you put in it?Most bios include:Present job and professional /business experienceProfessional membershipsHonors, awards and certificationsContact informationYou can also personalize your bio by adding things like your photo, educational background, testimonials or samples of your work.Tips for writingYou can write a bio in many ways, but there are common factors to make it more effective. You should usually write your bio in third-person (use ‘he/she’ instead of ‘I’). When you do it this way shows your professionalism and allows others to really trust what you’re saying.Grab the attention of your readers in the first paragraph so they will want to know more about you.Write conversationally; this will make it simple for readers to follow what you’re saying.Make it as brief as you can; only include necessary information.Think about incorporating personal or unique info about yourself at the end.Once you have a bio you’re happy with, remember it’s not permanent. You’ll want to adjust and update it periodically to reflect any changes you’ve made.If you have any questions about writing bios or need a professional to handle it for you, contact me at jamiefleming@mochawriter.com or (706) 436.7982. I look forward to hearing from you!~Jamiemochawriter.com

Popular Custom Banner Design: Tanya White

When I'm not writing, I'm working on web projects and designing banners. The banner below I did a few years back (can't remember so long ago) for blogtalkradio host Tanya White. tanya_white_banner440 Her show is popular and so is this banner design. New clients often come to me and say, "can you make me a banner like Tanya White's banner?" (smile) Some of those new clients come from Tanya herself, she sends me referrals and I appreciate it. I am actually going to add my banner design services to my affiliate program in the next month or so (its on the to do list). I figure if you are so kind to share my work with friends, the least I can do is offer you a commission for referrals! This banner is $40 (html code included). If you want one, click here for details on how to submit a banner request. To review more of my banner designs and pricing details click here. I have different clients who come to me from all businesses and backgrounds, but I specialize in urban marketing; creating custom graphics: banner designs that really reflect the businesses of black entrepreneurs online. Wow! I'm beginning this blog and now realize there are so many things I would change. Which, in fact, opens up another question to probe...I mean, why isn't it easy to think of only one thing I would change that I've done in my life without having to weigh one against the other. This says to me that there are possibly many regrets. Oops! And if many regrets, whoa! then am I satisfied with who and where I am? Humm.Seriously though, if I could change one thing I've done in life, I would change my undergrad major from Economics to Journalism. I can't aptly say that I regret the Economics education and degree, but I believe I would have gained more mileage as a journalist. And then, maybe not. Hind sight is twenty-twenty as the cliché goes, but you can never see around the corner. Nevertheless, researching (to a degree) and writing is one of my passions and it holds a place in my life. God always has a way of giving us the desires of our heart.Do I have regrets, of course I do. We all have walked down a path that regrettably may have shaped our lives in one way or another. Though we have choices, not all choices are good and profitable. I believe wrong turns can serve as building blocks when the wrong turn culminates at the ultimate right outcome. The lesson then strengthens and births a moral fiber and character that may not have ever been discovered had it not been for that wrong turn.So am I satisfied? Can't say that I'm satisfied because my life's purpose isn't complete. There's much more I need to do and many lives I must touch. But I can say that I'm content...that is, being grateful to God as the navigator of my life knowing the good work He has begun in me will be completed. And too for allowing me to do what I do, for being who I am, sharing what I share, helping whoever I help, and growing in the process. I wouldn't change that at all.Now I've shared my one thing, what's yours?DeanaYour Creative Consultant

Loosing My Footing

I've been an R.N. since 1993; passed my boards the first time and graduated with a good G.P.A., but my career has been a turmultuos journey. Plagued by alot of gossip, ignorance and racism on my last job, I just walked away. Really intersted in gaining a postion as a Traveling Nurse in New York(Bronx, Mahattan or Brooklyn)....been traveling back and forth to New York for personal reasons this yr and I love it...I feel like this city will give me my career back, and then I can come home.....Applying for a License in New York, just for starters. 5 eMail Marketing Tips for Newbies

Did you know that email marketing is a powerful tool for online entrepreneurs IF you know how to use it correctly. Here are a few tips for newbies...

email-marketing

  1. The term newsletter is too boring! When most folks think about creating an email marketing campaign they create a newsletter, but you can call it, create it, and turn it into something WAY more interesting than that. You can create a tip list, challenge, ecourse, guide, ezine ... the skies the limit. Realize that most online viewers today go to thousands of websites and see thousands of newsletter forms. Make sure that when they come to your website, your newsletter stands out.
  2. The term newsletter is too broad! When I see the term newsletter I have no clue what you are gonna give me and then I don't want to signup. However if you say something like, 'My List of 100 Ways to Teach Your Toddler Manners', that's better. Let your potential subscribers know what they will be getting in their inbox when they signup to your newsletter. I do that all the time. For example, I let people know that when they subscribe to Sistasense.com they will get weekly web business tips and tools for beginners.
  3. Make your newsletter full of personality! My favorite newsletters have their own distinct personality, which helps me remember them and spot them instantly. Some folks always have their logo in the same place, while others love to use a special picture of themselves. Remember to put a piece of you in your newsletter as a way of building that connection (relationship) that us marketing experts are always talking about.
  4. When you hate to write, an auto responder is the right way to go! I've got more newsletter than I care to mention in various industries. How do I keep it all together? Truth be told, most of them are auto-responders, with a select hand few that I write weekly. My favorite auto-responders I write in a set of 48 (1 for each week of the year). That way once it's done I never have to write it again. What do you think about that? Can you devote one week to writing your auto-responder and saving you a WHOLE Years worth of work.
  5. Give a little to get a little! When you are trying to build your list faster than normal, giving something away is always a great way to get folks on your list. Common giveaway incentives are reports and/or audio files sharing great information. Quick tip: If you are trying this now with no results you've got to keep a few things in mind. Could be you have low traffic to the page your newsletter is on. It could be your giveaway title isn't interesting enough. It could be folks who come to your website don't really want that freebie. The trick is to research, figure out what words and freebies make your audience tick! Do that and you'll get more new readers than you know what to do with.

Changing the Current

There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them.--Denis WaitleyMany women in transition are finding themselves under economic pressures from a job loss, divorce, or phase-of-life-changes. I can remember feeling the pinch myself as a professional women a few years back when I was released from my position, ending a marriage and dealing with the possibility of losing my sight. I was trying to juggle a mortgage, rising debt, finding a job and managing my health at the same time. In the midst of the raging seas, I was learning how to sail my ship and change the current of my circumstances. I am not the only woman who has felt or is feeling their back against the wall these days. We, as professional women, are being overlooked or under-looked in the workplace, our pay is not equal to our efforts, or no flexible time is available to take care of the needs of our family. As a career transition coach, I encourage women to be innovative, explorative and to view their circumstances with new eyes. Most of the women I encounter are frustrated with their jobs and want to start a business but aren’t sure what type of business venture they want to pursue. On the other hand, some women have talents/gifts and are using them as hobbies, have never considered using them as business opportunities, or afraid to step out and take it to the next level. After my life-changing currents, I knew it was time to embrace the entrepreneur spirit. The Jazzy Coach, LLC and Ardyss businesses helped stimulate my purpose, passion and dedication to empowering women. So if you are reading this and are contemplating a business idea as a result of a lost job, or need to find a way to bring in more money as your household income has dramatically decreased, NOW is the time to create your own current in this big sea of the professional marketplace. Here are a few tips to help you ride the wave:1. Shift your gears from the QUIET ZONE into the STRIKE ZONE. Yes, our economy is in troubled waters, but this is not the time to “wait it out”, be it the economy or just your own fear. The QUIET ZONE is a peaceful and comfortable place, but a non-proactive and stagnant one too. You are a gifted/talented woman with vision and ideas DON’T rest on them. The STRIKE ZONE can be uncomfortable a bit, but that’s where the fruit is and it’s the only way you are going to grow. Staying stagnant will not change the current.2. Be UNIQUE, you don’t have to compete. When you assess you personal and professional skills, you will be surprised how they can lead you into a business venture. In changing my current, I used my own pain and frustrations to create streams of income. I’m allowing my experiences to create my uniqueness. You never now, your pain just maybe leading you to your purpose in life. Make it a mission to be authentic – don’t fall prey to being someone other than who you are. Your gifts and talents will make room for you.3. Build strong NETWORKS and ALLIANCES. There’s one thing for sure, as women, we know how to gather and socialize. We host parties at our homes, family reunions, facilitate meetings – you name it, and we can pull it off. You can use those same skills in building professional relationships. Let people know what you are doing and what you are looking for in your business. Find diverse groups to be a part of and make some connections – someone may hold the key to what you need to jump-start your business venture. In this classic book, The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles, he states,” there is abundance of opportunity for the man who will go with the tide instead of trying to swim against it”. If you have positioned yourself in a box, come out NOW enter the STRIKE ZONE. No more swimming against the tide (economic depression).Be free and ride the waves of success as you are creating your own current! If you need help with changing your current or jump-starting a business idea, contact The Transition Coach for more information.

On a lovely Sunday afternoon, it was very quiet as usual, and I felt like there should be some noise in the background. I turned on the TV and QVC was on. If you don’t know what QVC is, it’s one of the largest television/online shopping networks. They feature a large range of products which are presented by very enthusiastic, knowledgeable guests. The item being presented was a simple table, but you would not believe how much they had to talk about for an entire segment about a basic table! I felt inspired to share with you some tips that you can apply directly to your curvy-friendly business to increase sales.* Naturally when you’re selling a product, you like to talk about all the features and bells and whistles that makes your product fabulous. While this is great, you need to tell your prospects about the benefits and WHY to buy…and do so repeatedly. What this does is solidify what your product/service can do for them in a more realistic way. They may not understand all the features, but if you tell them WHY in a way that makes sense, then you will capture their attention and be at the forefront of their memory when they are ready to buy.* Give examples and stories of how to use your product. These are otherwise known as testimonials. However, if you tweak your testimonials a bit so that they tell a story and paints a picture of what the customer will experience once they’ve bought your product, it truly brings your products to life. It’s absolutely amazing how people can use the exact same product in so many different way.* Plug shameless promotion on all the media attention you have received. Even if you were picked up by a local newspaper or quoted on someone else’s blog, publicity is publicity. This helps to increase your visibility and build your credibility which all leads to more sales for your business.* Do not make money the deciding factor for prospects to purchase your products or services. In today’s economy, spending hasn’t stopped completely, it has changed, and everyone is keeping an eye out for the best deals and values for their hard earned dollars. You don’t have to heavily discount your offerings but you can offer easy payments or provide additional value that won’t stretch your business budget too far.* Connect with your audience in a more personal way, people really don’t want to be sold. In your copy, pretend that you’re talking to a friend; how would you share your offerings with them in a way that fosters relationships? Eliminate a lot of “I” and add more “you” in your marketing messages.* Get other people to talk about what you do and what you’re offering. This is a little bit different than a testimonial. A testimonial is usually a one-time statement that someone told you. What if you were to invite your clients to actually present your products and services to others as guests? It definitely sounds a lot better to your potential clients coming from someone else than it does coming from you talking about all the great stuff you do. As entrepreneurs, we’re very biased and it can come across in our messages. Let happy clients do the ground work for you and watch your sales skyrocket!* Never rely on one form of media to reach your audience. Video has been an increasingly popular medium that is being used to connect with others. Develop a strategy that allows you to effectively and efficiently use technology: phones (teleseminars), video (webinars), blogs, email, social media, etc. Go where your target market is and connect with them in ways that captures their attention.* Give your customers an opportunity to talk about why they purchased your product before it arrives in their inbox or mailbox. One of the most fun parts of watching QVC is when they take callers live right after they’ve made the purchase. They’re so excited, they just can’t wait to tell everyone about how great your product/service is and what they plan to do with it. Ask your customers what they’re looking forward to, what do they expect, and see what they say.* Always tell your clients what’s coming up next or give them a sneak peek of what’s to come. We’re naturally curious human beings and if you have something interesting coming down the pipeline, we want to know about. Use this strategy to peak their interest so this way your audience is always expecting you to bring them something fresh and new.* Rinse and repeat with tons of energy and enthusiasm! For goodness sake, the segment on QVC was about a table, but I was really engaged and almost fascinated. Have fun with your business, test out some of these techniques and continue to do what works.Do you watch QVC? What techniques will you try for your business?
