Build your brand- now

Hi ladies!

This is a post I recently wrote on my blog. Hope this helps someone:

I'm sure you know by now that branding any business is very important. (If you're not sure what branding is, check out this post).
Here are some tips you can use right now to build your brand:
  • Get a fabulous and effective website. By having a design that's professionally created (or at least looks like it), you'll gain credibility- and it's not as expensive as you might imagine. Two options to consider: 1) Use a theme that everyone and their grandma isn't using, or 2) Use a little money to hire a designer to modify an available, free theme.
  • Be serious about SEO (search engine optimization). Whatever business you're in, you don't want to spend a lot of time looking for clients/customers- you want to use your time to make money. If you take the time to work on your SEO, your name (or business's) will come up higher in search results; so, when someone is searching for the service/product you offer, they'll be more likely to choose you first.
  • Create compelling copy. You want the words on your website to convince others to purchase your product or service. However, it can be hard for you to write about how awesome you are, so you may want to think about hiring a copywriter. He or she can objectively convey why individuals should choose you.
  • Convey your brand to others. It's easier to form a brand following when you can "piggy-back on top of an exisiting brand." And with blogging being so popular, gaining recognition is pretty simple- one way to do this is by writing guest posts on other blogs.
  • Make a product to establish your authority. Having a product or download shows prospective clients that you know what you're doing. A couple of options: Write an ebook, or provide a free download that's related to your business's experience.

Branding Yourself - Article Reprint

by Philip Brown - THIS IS AN ARTICLE REPRINTBranding yourself is a concept that represents everything about your business or company. It sets your business and products apart from the competition. Only the businesses who communicate the real value of their product in today's world of high expectations will accomplish everything they want. So, what makes you and your product different? The main goal of branding yourself is to own a product category. By branding yourself, you are identifying and defining everything from packaging to public relations. Your brand should epitomize the personality of your company.Since it will have a huge impact on your bottom line, it is very important that you create a solid brand for yourself and your company. When your targeted customer becomes loyal to your brand, price will become less of an issue for your company. There are many different elements that go into making a successful brand. First, there is relevance. Do your target customers believe that they need your product in their life? Will it make a positive difference in their daily life? Will it make their life easier? Will it make them feel good about themselves?Another element is differentiation. What makes the benefits of your products or services different from the competition? Next there is brand awareness. Do your potential customers even know that your company or products exist? Brand awareness will lead to a preference for your brand because it will be the first thing that comes to mind when they think of your product or service.Lastly there is consistency. If you are inconsistent in your business communications and products, then your potential customers will be confused and it will have a negative impact on your brand identity. This makes it important to define who you and your business are to set yourself apart from the competition. What happens once you know who you are and you have branded yourself? Once you have defined yourself and your company's products, then you need to focus on the above issues to help separate yourself from your competition. Your logo should help your potential customers define your product at a glance. Make sure that you create the best image to represent your company and its products. You should create a tag line. A tag line is a sentence or phrase that describes your products or services and helps your customers identify it anywhere.Careful and controlled branding can result in an increase in sales, more customers, and an ability to increase the value, and thus, the pricing of your products or services.Phillip Brown, Internet Marketer, Coach and MentorToll Free Telephone: 1-800-990-2024Official Website: http://www.watch-dog-reports.comE-mail:pwfonline@yahoo.com

He's Innocent Until Proven Guilty

One thing that is very precious to a woman is her trust. Trust is not something that most women hand out regularly or easily by any means. Men want nothing more than for a woman to trust him. When a man with good intentions senses that his lady trusts him it can make him more trustworthy. He wants his woman to be proud of him for his efforts and his integrity. Trusting him provides a great sense of security for him just as it does for her.Trust with most anyone is difficult to establish. Although when dating, the challenge is to not assume you can't trust him just because…Often the natural tendency for a woman whose trust has been broken is to withdraw it, lock it away and rarely ever release it again to another man because the last man didn’t handle her trust with honor and care. Therefore, the assumption to her is every man will mishandle her trust. That’s not true. When you get involved with someone, not trusting him from the start of things isn’t the “right” thing to do. To make him guilty before the crime is committed is a bit unfair to both of you. The “right” thing to do is to give him a chance, only if there is a genuine sense of interest from both of you.Typically when a man is trustworthy, his actions, commitment, and follow through will over shadow any doubts you may have had about trusting him. Should there be a frequency of small breaks of your trust along the way while you are seeing him, these should not go ignored. Often it's leading up to a path of the Ultimate breach of trust. It may be time for you to trust your instincts and move forward without him. At that point you should be able to do so without having experienced significant hurt but, knowing you were fair to him and most importantly to yourself. The "right" thing to do is to trust him until he gives you a reason not to trust him. You wouldln't want to risk the possibility of not having a man that can honor you with the trust you feel you deserve as well as he may feel the same.Peace is Love, Love is Infinite…Shelby M. Greetings Family,(Contact Information At The Bottom Of The Page)As a Digital Drummer, I'm always looking for something good to put on this virtual drum line...smileArlena Richardson, is a relatively new friend, I met on We Are Creative People (see www.wacptv.ning.com) I've watched this sister selfishly put out positive, proactive and empowering information for the last year. She exemplifies what social networking is all about; sharing, supporting, and encouraging those of us in the Black online Diaspora. The sister has her act together and is quickly becoming a recognized name on the Net.Seeing her background as an established sports publicist and Dot.com entrepreneur, her rise in popularity is understandable (see http://www.arlena.com/arlena_richardson.htm) Arlena is doing big things and deserves our acknowledgement and support. Please take the time to send Arlena Richardson an email (arlenapr@sbcglobal.net) and/or public comment, thanking her for all her time and efforts to make the Net a better and more vibrant place for Blacks online.Remember, We Must Share The Knowledge (Network)... You need to get your email opened and read, how do you help your cause? Through the subject line! But remember, email readers cut off the subject line if it's too long so get your message across with a few short words.2. "From Label" faux pas - make sure that your email comes "from" whomever your recipients have established a relationship with. If they see that it's coming from someone with whom they aren't familiar, you're likely to see an increase in your unsubscribe rate and possibly receive some SPAM complaints.3. Personalization is key! It's a great way to get your message read and Vertical Response can help you set it up easily. Catch your recipient's attention using it in the subject line, in the introduction or even the in closing of your email. Personalization is a powerful way to bring you closer to your recipient.4. Identify with your recipients in the first paragraph "You told us you wanted to receive information on [Product X] so we're sending you this information today!" Help them remember the connection you've had with them from previous correspondence. Sparking the memory of your recipient can also help to lower your unsubscribe rate.5. Pictures, pictures, pictures. We see up to 10 times the response rate for emails using pictures vs. those with only text. Vertical Response has the tools to help you easily upload your images so why not give yourself the advantage. Just make sure the images aren't too large (i.e. file size) as it will take longer to load for your dial-up recipients. Don't run the risk of losing a potential customer because they got frustrated waiting for your images to load.6. Got a product? Make your offer up front and provide only the most pertinent information (i.e. price, model #, availability) in the email. Don't waste your customer's time by making them search for these details as this can have a negative effect on your sales. As long as you also provide them with a link to get more information about your offer they should have everything they need.7. Create urgency with your offers. Apply expiration dates and enforce them. This can jump start your recipients behavior if they feel like a delay on their part will result in a missed opportunity.8. Keep it short and sweet. If you send a monthly email and have a lot to say, try to convey your message in a concise manner. Get your message across with a few sentences and then include a link where they can get more information. You might think about switching your monthly email to a bi-weekly one to prevent your newsletters from being too long.9. When you mail can be as important as what you mail. Keep in mind that certain times of the year people will be focusing more of their attention on get-togethers with friends and family than to their email inboxes. Schedule your mailings accordingly for the holiday seasons (i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, 4th of July) to ensure that your messages are not left unread for longer than you expected. This is especially important for any time-sensitive offers or announcements contained within your email.10. For success in the future you'll want to consult the past! Study campaign performance to learn from your achievements (and your mistakes!) by monitoring your clicks and open rate. Test, Test, Test: try different offers with your lists and compare the results. See which days of the week and especially subject lines garner the best response***************(Advertisement)*********************Looking For More Exposure, Want To Help A Good Cause, Need Money???Come on over to www.freshfaces2u.com and register to win $10,000 dollars CASH!At Fresh Faces2u it's NOT about how you look...But Who You Are!Join us in our mission to change the image of women in the mediaSign Up Today At Fresh Faces2u.com***************************************************This Online Journal was brought to you by InterServe Networks. For the Educators in your Life

Note: I'd love your help in promoting more campaigns like this. Please sign the "C List" so that I can contact you for the next campaign.

promethean130x130v2.jpg

My friends over at the Blogrollers are running a very interesting campaign and have asked me to help spread the word.

Promethean, the global leader in interactive education technology solutions, is conducting The ActivClassroom Film Festival Video Contest for teachers that effectively and creatively use Promethean ActivBoards, Learner Response Systems or ActivInspire software in their classrooms to bring learning to life!

Just in case you don't know what Promethean Boards are, you can read all about them right here. In our school system we call them "White Boards". They are used in a lot of classrooms in our elementary, middle and high schools. I myself am fascinated by them. The kids love them. I believe that the interaction with the kids using the white board in their classrooms is awesome and gets the kids moving around as opposed to just sitting at their desk listening.

My son who has autism benefits from using this board as it's hands on and that makes things easier for him to understand. He's always eager to go onto the board and show me something that he has learned. You can also use it the old fashioned by by writing on the board with a marker and then cleaning it off with a paper towel. (How green is that). It can also be used as a projector screen. I could go on and on but,

There is a contest for teachers to enter to win a fully installed personal ActivBoard. See below:

About the Contest:

To enter, teachers submit a video showing how using ActivClassroom brings “life” to their classroom or their subjects for a chance to win a fully installed personal ActivBoard+2 OR a set of ActivExpressions! The first 10 submissions get an ActiView Visual Presenter just for entering! This is a global contest and there will be two winners selected from each of the participating countries: United States, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The deadline for entries is Monday, March 15, 2010. Voting takes place March 22-31, and the winners are announced April 2. See all of the details right here

Tell all of the educators you know about this contest. You can also follow them on twitter @PrometheanUSA and @Planet_Tweets on Twitter and use the hashtag #learning2life

The State of Black Leadership

“As we look ahead…leaders will be those who empower others.” ~ Bill GatesLet’s face it everyone: there is a lack of leadership in the black community.Currently, many believe there is no vision, fresh idea, or strategy that would equip our communities (across the country) for success. And, I want to make special mention of the word vision, because when that’s lacking, people, especially young people, will cast off all restraint and do what’s right in their own eyes. Presently, lack of vision is placing many of our young people in great danger. So, how long are we going to go without an agenda that would deal with the issues that are devastating our communities? When are we going to realize that African Americans are truly in a crisis and things for us could either go up, with this road of recovery filled with great benefits to our communities; or down, with this road of decline filled with more duress that would take precious time away from a workable solution? Is there an answer to the pressing issues of: high unemployment rates, lack of business ownership, low graduation rates for inner-city students, high incarceration rates for males, and the high number of children being born out of wedlock? Yes, there is. But let’s first talk about the current state of black leadership. We must acknowledge that leadership in the black community is not something you do as a career. True black leadership is birthed out of one’s burden to serve and is characterized by service to ALL African Americans. I think for too long, many so-called leaders looked at the leadership-game and sensed there was a payoff for them; and due to the low standard of leadership we have had in recent years, there has been a big payoff for many. However, this form of leadership is not going to last due to the arrival of the internet—which will allow new voices to be heard—and individuals who are ready to step-up and lead. Additionally, nothing of significance ever gets done with career-minded leaders. Now, you might ask, “How can we spot this type of leader?” And the answer is: by the books one has authored, and the lucrative speaking career (or other money-making ventures) he or she may have. We must move beyond this ineffective leadership in order to solve our never-before-seen crisis.Secondly, let’s talk about the cornerstones of leadership which are: knowledge, drafting of a proactive plan, execution of the plan, and the assembling of a competent team around the plan or vision. This is the essence of leadership. Our communities must get beyond reactionary leadership (i.e., marches) and fruitless leadership (i.e., time-wasting panel discussions), as we have found these tactics to be inadequate. The African-American community is in need of plans that have goals, and ways of measuring the effectiveness of the leader’s plan against those goals. Plus, many of these new plans will have to be apart from what the government offers (or in other words, these innovative plans must be founded upon a do-for-self strategy). So if you want to identify a leader in the 21st century, just simply ask: “Where’s your proactive plan?” If there’s a plan, then that’s a good start to effective leadership. If a so-called leader is not capable of producing a plan, then we have to wonder what their motive really is.Thirdly, leaders must have a sense of purpose while leading. They must know that the leadership they’re offering is what they’ve been born to do. Financial gain cannot be the primary focus, and service must exceed everything! When we look back at video-footage of our past leaders, you can truly sense purpose with every move that was made and every interview that was given. Our leaders executed plans, faced dangers, stood on principles, and had an assurance that service to people was their vocation. Furthermore, they were aware of the importance of legacy as their efforts provided a foundation for future generations to build on. Purpose-filled leaders will be the ones that will provide the revolutionary change for our communities, as well as the hard-to-solve problems of the world. Today’s world could never have enough of this type of leadership. In closing, I truly believe new leaders are being raised up to meet the needs of the African-American community. And the only reason I could even be considered a leader is due to a proactive plan that the Creator has blessed me with, along with my genuine burden to see our communities empowered. You may view our company’s plan at: www.famdo.com as well as leave a comment on the plan and this article. Health Is Wealth

(BlackDoctor.org) -- “The first wealth is health.” ---Ralph Waldo Emerson

If I asked you what the top priorities in your life were, I'm sure there'd be many different responses. Your family, your children, your grandchildren, your business, your finances---these are all valid and extremely important. However, no matter who you are or what you do, your health should indeed be your number one priority. Why? Because without your health, you have nothing at all.

So, You Work From Home

You work from home. Congratulations, you’re on the cutting edge of a growing segment of professionals and entrepreneurs. Telecommuting and working from home have some obvious advantages: you get to spend more time with your family, you avoid expensive, frustrating and time-burgling commutes and you get to make sales calls in your bathrobe.

In addition to the fact that no matter how hard you work or how successful your business is, it’s nearly impossible to convince your friends, family and especially your parents that you actually have a job, working from home has some other challenges.

The overall key to success is to realize that your home is set up for your personal life, not your professional life. At the office you have all the resources you need to get your job done; at home, you have to decide between what you need, what you can afford and what space allows. At work you have co-workers; at home you have family.

If you’re new to or are considering telecommuting or working from home, here are some ideas to help you get off to a good start:

  1. Set up a designated office – even if it’s just part of a room. When you walk in that area, consider yourself to be punching-in for the day. Make sure the rest of your family respects this area and treats it as your “Corporate Headquarters.” Set up your office hours and stick with them. This will help you distinguish between your personal and professional life and prevent you from getting sidetracked by non-work-related distractions.
  2. Designate one outside space or third space as an alternative office or meeting space. Some people use coffee shops; others actually rent office and meeting space by the hour. While etiquette experts say it’s fine to work from home, clients may feel uncomfortable when asked to meet at your home (unless you have a separate office space with a separate entryway). Whether it’s the local coffee shop, or even better, a rent-by-the-hour meeting and office space, meeting with clients on the outside of your home office creates a professional impression while still allowing you to retain the freedom of the work-at-home lifestyle.
  3. While one of the much-touted advantages of working at home is the ability to work in your pajamas, avoid that temptation and get dressed. Getting dressed symbolizes the beginning of the day and helps get you into work mode.
  4. Install a separate telephone line for your business. If this is not possible, answer your phone in a professional manner during your business hours.
  5. Avoid isolation by joining professional organizations, chambers of commerce, or a business networking groups. Also, consider renting space occasionally or even once a week from temporary office space providers.
  6. Meet people face-to-face every so often. Even though technology has enabled us to work in virtual space, the power of the face-to-face encounter cannot be underestimated. If you have co-workers, go to lunch. If you work for yourself, be sure to find others who do the same and meet regularly for coffee or lunch.
  7. Get broadband cable or DSL. These services are no longer considered luxuries. Your clients and colleagues expect you to have fast Internet access and the ability to view rich websites and receive large files in your email.
  8. Consider going wireless. Why tie yourself down to one corner of your office? A wireless router and card for your laptop can be had for around $100 and will give you great flexibility. Once you have a card, you can stay connected while on the road by stopping by one of the growing number of wireless “Hotspots” available in cafes, hotels and airports.
  9. Protect yourself. Make sure you have the latest anti-virus software and keep it updated. Anti-spy software is now just as critical as anti-virus software. Lavasoft’s Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy can both be downloaded for free at download.com. Also, consider a personal firewall. Zonealarm, McAfee, and Symantec are just a few of the popular packages available.
  10. Consider hiring your own personal “computer geek.” You have a plumber, electrician, and a handyman to maintain and fix all of your household appliances, so why treat your computer any differently? Computer technicians typically charge from $65 to $125 per hour (just like a plumber) and offer a range of services from keeping your computer and software up to date to installing wireless networks and firewalls. Best of all, they come to you in your home office. Call someone BEFORE you lose your hard drive so that they can be ready for any unforeseen events.

If you want to start making those dollars you have to first make sense of your money goals and stick to internet marketing strategies that actually work. Many business owners, big and small along with Entrepreneurs attend Social Networking Events in expectation of gaining a new client, customer and or establishing a relationship. Many of these same people don't have any idea about how to present their business products or services to their potential client or customer to begin establishing the relationship. If you have been use to sharing your entire business plan, business description to people or lengthy statements at social networking events and going on and on about your business, telling them how great your company is or sharing how great your products are, you have been totally wrong and more than likely have not ever heard from those people that you gave all that great information to.Most times those people will never contact you or consider buying from you. They don't take a second thought about anything that you said, because you have not given them the information that they are looking for. Here are 3 things wrong with giving that much information about your business or product & services to someone that you just met.First, you have taken up too much of their time.Second, you have wasted alot of your own time. While you were giving out that much information to 1-3 people, you could have worked the entire room using your elevator pitch.Third, no one really wants to hear all the in depth details about your business products and services, they only want to know the benefit to them or the solution to their problem. What is an elevator pitch? An elevator pitch is an overview of an idea for a product, service, or project. The name reflects the fact that an elevator pitch should be possible to deliver in the time span of an elevator ride, meaning in a maximum of 30 seconds and in 130 words or fewer. (Wikipedia)Your "elevator pitch" is the tool you use to communicate your message to your listener about who you are, what you offer and what's in it for them. It can be used at Networking Events and on social networking sites.Resources to Help with Your Elevator Pitch:-Give Your Elevator Pitch a Lift-Elevator Pitch Essentials-How to Get Your Point Across in 30 Seconds or LessCharlene Brown is the Founder and Visionary of The Black Business Cafe, a Social Networking Organization in Maryland. Yesterday, I attended a parent teacher conference at the school of my thirteen year old son. Since we are new to the area and my son is fairly new to the school, his teachers wanted to touch base and discuss how he’s adjusting to his new surroundings. After our 45 minute discussion, his guidance counselor made a rather peculiar statement with regards to her observation of my son. She stated to us that she was a bit concerned because my son wasn’t “falling into peer pressure and getting into trouble like most kids his age”.At first I was somewhat confused. Was this woman telling us that something was wrong with our son sociably because he was not participating in the misbehaviors of his peers? As I took a moment to process her statement, I began to feel proud. You see, what his guidance counselor has failed to realize is that MY son doesn’t partake in the negative ways of his classmates simply because he chooses to display the leadership qualities I have worked hard to instill in him.She was confused by my son’s overall demeanor because she could not understand, that at his age, he is determined to be a Leader instead of a follower.Do your peers, colleagues and clients recognize you as a Leader in your industry? Here are a few traits you can learn from my son to be a Leader to your Team.>> Dare to be different. Don’t settle for mediocrity. If you want to make a difference in your life and the lives of others, you have to expect greatness and be willing to work to achieve it.>> Operate with Integrity. This matters not only in your personal life but in your business practice as well. If you can’t be real with yourself in every aspect, how will anyone else value you or trust what you represent?>> Possess passion. Are you passionate about your company mission, business opportunity and the services you provide? Be true to what you believe in and what you stand for. If you do, your sincerity will show and attract the right people and opportunities into your life.>> Be willing to fight. You have to have the strength and drive to keep going even when those around you are ready to quit. Be motivated to make it happen even if no one will stand beside you. Choose to never give up!

5 Legit Work From Home Companies

We live in tough times. Those who are not unemployed are under-employed. Many people agonize between taking a second job and family time. My goal is to share with you some resources that allow you to earn extra income for your family from the comfort of your own home on your schedule.

1. Demand Studios

www.demandstudios.com

They have many different employment opportunities that range from Writers, Editors, Title Editors, Filmmakers, and more. They are usually hiring for certain positions at certain times so you have to keep your eyes peeled. As a writer you can make between $7.50-$20.00 per 150-500 word article. You do not have to be a prolific writer or have a background in writing to get accepted. Most articles are in a “How to” format. So, if you are the type that enjoys learning something new and then explaining it to someone else then this could be a fun work for you. Most of their content goes on eHow.com or LiveStrong.com.

Let’s say you have a trip you want to take in a month. Just decide how many articles you would have to write a day to reach your goal. They pay by Paypal every Wednesday and Friday. There is no payment threshold that you have to meet either. If you have money in your account, you will get paid. They currently have thousands of titles to choose from in the system and you can reserve up to ten at a time.

2. Live Work

www.livework.com

This is mostly like a running projects board for a company called LiveOps (which I will discuss later on). Live Work has many different projects that you can bid on. Many are data entry and task-oriented. You work as much as you want. There really is a wide-variety of work available there.

3. Leapforce

www.leapforceathome.com

They are a vendor for Google. Once you are accepted in the program you log-in to the Google interface and rate websites. Google wants their searches to be relevant. They use human raters to rate whether the content is worthy or spam. At the time of this writing, they pay $11.50 an hour.

4. Textbroker

www.textbroker.com

This is a great place to earn extra income if you want to write on simple projects. They pay is much less, but the projects are easy to write on.

5. Liveops

www.liveops.com

If you want more human interaction, then you might want to consider LiveOps. LiveOps is an at home call service that you dial into while in the comfort of your own home. You will have to make a weekly schedule, but you will never have to commute anywhere. All calls are inbound from people responding to infomercials and you basically take their ordering information while being logged into the LiveOps system. They pay is around $9.50 but you do earn commission for different products sold.

Wrapping it up

Hopefully, this list will get you started thinking about ways to supplement your income. This resource is also good for Stay-at-home moms that are looking for ways to earn so money without being on a tight schedule.
