DO YOU NEED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COLLEGE ?

(New scholarships posted everyday)

Students Seeking Education by Experiencing Academic America (S.E.A.)

an Houston, Texas based mentoring program for high school students, students at risk, and college bound students who want to attend an Historically Black College / University. (HBCU).

S.E.A will post a scholarship for minority students each day. If you are a high school senior, junior, or an transferring college student, these scholarships are for you. FREE MONEY! We all know through life there is nothing Free, you have to apply to receive this money. Your cost is time. The time it takes to fill out the scholarship application.. Look for the S.E.A. blog each day, highlighting a new scholarship listing 2010/2011

How Do I Get An Internship?

1. Get the best grades possible in school.
Employers are more inclined to hire college students that are doing well in school. In addition, employers look at the type of classes you have been taking. Students with a rigorous academic program are preferred.

2. Participate in school-sponsored activities like clubs and sports.
Employers believe that this demonstrates an ability to get along with others and that’s what they want.

3. Participate in community activities.
Employers see this as a sign of your ability to serve others. This experience provides them with insight about how you will serve customers.

4. Be aggressive. Ask around, surf the web and go out and look for an internship
An internship will not fall in your lap. Most employers don’t feel the need to advertise to students. Employers are expecting that you will seek them out.

Ask everybody you know—teachers, counselors, your parents, friends, (including the people that your parents and friends know) about places that are hiring students. Call or go to the location and apply.

Look for “now hiring” signs at places where you’d like to work and ask to speak with the hiring manager for the establishment. Ask if they will hire teens and if so, offer to complete an application.

Employers are impressed when students take the initiative to ask for an internship. It shows employers that you are self-motivated and really want an internship.

5. Learn how to complete an application
Employers want to know about you but they are also looking for neatness and accuracy in the completion of the application. Misspelled words and sloppy handwriting are a turn-off.

6. Be prepared to be interviewed on the spot.
Employers may not tell you this but they are sizing you up the first time they see you so it’s best to be prepared. Dress appropriately for business. While nose and tongue rings might be cool among your friends, most employers still frown upon their use in the workplace.

7. Practice talking about yourself beforehand.
It helps to be prepared for the interview. The more comfortable you are the better. Employers are impressed by teens who make eye contact, shake hands firmly and are confident about themselves. If you’re an above average student, say so. If you have other talents, skills and abilities that would be helpful on the job, make sure the interviewer knows it. Be positive and take your time answering questions. Answer in full sentences and talk about what you bring to the job.

8. Learn something about the company where you want to work.
Employers are charmed when teens know something about the company and share it. It shows you are really taking an interest in them.

9. Follow up.
At the end of the interview, thank the interviewer for the opportunity. Ask when you will be notified if you have the job. Write a thank you note to the interviewer. Follow up with the interviewer if you don't hear back within a week. Employers need to know you are serious.

10. If you land the internship, be a good employee. Earn a positive reference.
Employers expect that you will a) be on time, b) be positive, c) work well with others and d) do the best job you can. This is important! Getting good references will be a viable part of your ongoing career. New employers will always ask past employers about how well you have performed on the job.

Be Determined

If at first you don't succeed, brush it off. Remain positive and move on to the next possibility. The more you search and the more applications you submit, the more likely you will land a job.

Consider Alternatives.

IfBy Renee Ward, Founder & Executive Director
www.teens4hire.org you can afford to, consider other alternatives to working for pay this spring and summer. Attend summer school or volunteer. This experience will look great on your application next year.

3 Ask LaShanda Questions Answered

Over on my BBWO Social Network, I received a few questions. Feel free to leave your question in the comment box below. Kaisha asked: Do you have info for network marketers? I have tons of ideas but I am not sure if they are feasible as a network marketing to grow a team. My Repsponse: Kaisha, yes I do have information for network marketers. It is in the form of my guide: How to Really Make Money Selling MLM and Network Marketing Products Online. You can find here. Tieast asked: I'm really excited about the 7 day Challenge and have been listening and taking notes on the audios. I want to start my own social network and take advantage of the use of adsense, affiliates and selling of ad space, among other traffic and money generating opportunities. I have been going back and forth over your ebooks and am not sure which would be the best to get to help me maximize my use of a social networking site. I see you have the "Turn my Niche into a Network",(2 book set) and "How to make Money with Your Social Network" (3 book set.). Am I missing something? The packages almost sound the same. Help! My Response: Tieast, glad you like the challenge thus far. As for the ebooks, those are two separate packages. "Turn my Niche into a Network" is about turning your personal passion into a network of websites (including regular sites, blogs, etc.). ""How to make Money with Your Social Network" is actually one of 3 ebooks in my set "Create Your Own Ningalicous Network", (click the title to go to website). I am a web designer, so I also offer custom network design packages and all that is detailed in my pdf catalog. Diane asked: I run a security consulting business and I don't have to explain the responsiblites of running a business, growing a business and just maintaining the business. With all the wonderful tools you are providing us about growing the business, how can one do it all? Is there anyone out there that will do all the wonderful things you tell us about (for a fee of course) and let the business owner - just be the business owner? My response: The person you are referring to would be an assistant, or for many a virtual assistant. We have quite a few of them on BBWO you can find them via forum discussions about VAs or even by searching the member directory or groups area. Every person's business starts off differently, so of course you have work with what you got. When I started, I honestly had no money for a VA BUT I had time, which is how I ended up learning all these different marketing strategies that I now teach. I tell folks, when you can't spend money, spend time. Now, if you have a thriving business with funds to invest into making it better by all means tap into a good coach and/or find a VA that is just right for your budget. Today, VAs are expanding their services to even do social media marketing so that you don't have to. The key is to find the right person and stay on top of them so you can see that you are getting results. These were 3 questions that I I received over at Black Business Women Online. Feel free to leave your question in the comment box below. Related posts:

Essential Steps to Selecting a College

Chances are, picking a college may be the most important decision you've made so far. With more than 3,000 institutions of higher learning in the United States alone, it can seem overwhelming.

But here's the good news: There are scores of outstanding colleges and universities nationwide, plus lots of information available on how to select one that's right for you. You can start your selection process with a few simple steps:

Identify your must-haves.

Ask yourself some serious questions:

Do I want to attend a large university or a small

college?

Do I want my school to be in a rural, suburban, or urban setting?

Do I want to live close to home? What can I afford?

Will my family help pay for my education?

Do I want to live on campus or commute? What do I want to major in?

Answering these questions will go a long way toward helping you create a list of schools that meet your *criteria.

Develop a list of contenders. Make an appointment with your college counselor and describe the things you want from a school. Based on what your counselor knows about you, he or she might have some great suggestions. Get ideas from family and friends. And, avail yourself of our free Web-based college matching service, My College Options. Spend a few minutes completing your personal profile and My College Options will provide you a list of colleges in order of compatibility. (Hint: You can redo your profile and search criteria as often as you change your mind! No charge.)

Request information. If you haven't already requested brochures and applications through My College Options, call or email your top schools and ask for admissions packets. Spend some time looking at your schools' glossy view books and Flash-enabled websites; you'll find that each school has its own personality. (As you read, remember each college is trying to put its best foot forward.) And supplement the material you receive from colleges with information from college guides, conversations with current students, friends, family, and counselors.

Narrow your list and apply. Spend time talking with your parents about which schools they would like you to consider. Also, have the money talk; ask your parents how much they will contribute financially toward your higher education. If you and your parents disagree about school choices, listen to their points, explain your side, and try and develop a "consensus list". There's no rule about how many schools you should apply to. Some people apply to as many as a dozen; others send in one application only. (Keep in mind that most colleges request application fees, usually around $50. So applying can get expensive.)

It may also be helpful to divide your top choices into "reach" schools—those that might be a stretch financially or academically; mid-range schools where you're likely to get in but aren't sure; and safety schools—the sure bets. A good rule of thumb: Apply to three reach schools, three mid-range school, and two safety schools.

The White House

Office of the Press Secretary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 27, 2010

BACKGROUND ON THE SMALL BUSINESS BILL SIGNING TODAY

Today, President Obama will sign the Small Business Jobs Act, a bill that will give our nation’s small businesses support and incentives to help them grow and hire. The bill includes a series of small business proposals that the President put forth earlier this year, and small businesses will start benefiting from the bill on day one.

The President will be joined at the signing today by a group of small business owners who will benefit from the new legislation, some of whom the President has previously met with as he fought to pass this bill (their bios are below). He will also be joined by Small Business Administrator Karen Mills, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, and Members of Congress. The signing is today at 1:45 pm ET in the East Room at the White House. The signing is open press.

The Small Business Jobs Bill Will Provide Immediate Support for Small Businesses:

The bill immediately extends successful SBA Recovery Act provisions, meaning that within a few days, it will restart the SBA’s Recovery lending, beginning with the more than1,300 small businesses that have been waiting to get the credit they need – with thousands more benefiting in the coming weeks.

Andthe bill includes eight new small business tax cuts – all effective
as of Monday, and applying to small businesses’ taxes for this year – providing an immediate incentive for businesses to make new investments and, expand.

For example:

· if you are a small business and you buy new equipment, you can immediately write

off the first $500,000 of your investments;

· if you are one of over one million eligible small businesses, key long-term

investments in your company will be subject to zero capital gains taxes;

· if you are an entrepreneur and take a chance on a new idea, you can deduct the

first $10,000 of your start-up costs;

· and if you are self employed you can deduct 100 percent of the cost of health

insurance for you and your family from your self-employment taxes.

MORE DETAILS:

Eight Small Business Tax Cuts – Effective Today, Providing Immediate
Incentives to Invest:
The President had already signed into law eight small business tax cuts, and on Monday, he is signing into law another eight new tax cuts that go into effect immediately.

1. Zero Taxes on Capital Gains from Key Small Business Investments:
Under the Recovery Act, 75 percent of capital gains on key small business investments this yearwere excluded from taxes. The Small Business Jobs Act temporarily puts in place for the rest of 2010 a provision called for by the President – elimination of all capital gains taxes on these investments if held for five years. Over one million small businesses are eligible to receive investments this year that, if held for five years or longer, could be completely excluded from any capital gains taxation.

2.
Extension andExpansion of Small Businesses’ Ability to Immediately Expense Capital
Investments:
The bill increases for 2010 and 2011 the amount of investments that businesses would be eligible to immediately write off to $500,000, while raising the level of investments at which the write-off phases out to $2 million. Prior to the passage of the bill, the expensing limit would have been $250,000 this year, and only $25,000 next year. This provision means that 4.5 million small businesses and individuals will be able to make new business investments today and know that they will earn a larger break on their taxes for this year.

3.
Extension of 50%Bonus Depreciation: The bill extends – as the President proposed in his budget a Recovery Act provision for 50 percent “bonus depreciation” through 2010, providing 2 million businesses, large and small, with the ability to make new investments today and know they can receive a tax cut for this year by accelerating the rate at which they deduct capital expenditures.

4.
A New Deduction ofHealth Insurance Costs for Self-Employed: The bill allows 2million self-employed to know that on their taxes for this year, they can get a deduction for the cost of health insurance for themselves and their family members in calculating their self-employment taxes. This provision is estimated to provide over $1.9 billion in tax cuts for these entrepreneurs.

5.
Tax Relief andSimplification for Cell Phone Deductions: The bill changes rules so that the use of cell phones can be deducted without burdensome extra documentation – making it easier for virtually every small business in America to receive deductions that they are entitled to, beginning on their taxes for this year.

6.
An Increase in theDeduction for Entrepreneurs’ Start-Up Expenses: The bill temporarily increases the amount of start-up expenditures entrepreneurs can deduct from their taxes for this year from $5,000 to $10,000 (with a phase-out threshold of $60,000 in expenditures), offering an immediate incentive for someone with a new business idea to invest in starting up a new small business today.

7.
A Five-YearCarryback Of General Business Credits: The bill would allow certain small businesses to “carry back” their general business credits to offset five years of taxes – providing them with a break on their taxes for this year – while also allowing these credits to offset the Alternative Minimum Tax, reducing taxes for these small businesses.

8.
Limitationson Penalties for Errors in Tax Reporting That Disproportionately Affect Small Business: The bill would change, beginning this year, the penalty for failing to report certain tax transactions from a fixed dollar amount – which was criticized for imposing a disproportionately large penalty on small businesses in certain circumstances – to a percentage of the tax benefits from the transaction.

Extension of Successful SBA Recovery Loan Provisions— Immediately Supporting Loans to Over 1,300 Small Businesses : With funds provided in the bill, SBA will begin funding new Recovery loans within a few days of the President’s signature, starting with the more than 1,300 businesses
– with loans totaling more than $680 million – that are waiting in the Recovery Loan Queue.

· In Total, Extension of Provisions Which Have the Capacity to
Support $14 Billion in Loans to Small Businesses:
Extending these
Recovery loan enhancements – which increase guarantees for SBA’s largest loan
program (the 7(a) program) to 90% and reduce fees for the 7(a) and 504 program
– has the capacity to support $14 billion in lending to small businesses.
Already, SBA Recovery loan provisions have supported $30 billion in lending to
over 70,000 small businesses.

· Within Coming Weeks, the Bill Will Allow SBA to Support
Larger Loans As Well:
The bill also increases the maximum loan size for SBA loan
programs
, which in the coming weeks will allow more small businesses to access
more credit to enable them to expand and create new jobs. The bill:

o Permanently raises the maximum loan size for the SBA’s two largest loan programs, increasing maximum
7(a) and 504 loan size from $2 million to $5 million and the maximum 504
manufacturing related loan size from $4 million to $5.5 million.

o Permanently raises the maximum loan size for SBA microloans, increasing it from $35,000 to $50,000 and strengthening a critical tool for entrepreneurs and business owners in under-served markets to access start-up capital.

o Temporarily raises the maximum loan size for SBA Express loans from $350,000 to $1 million, providing greater access to working capital loans that small businesses use to purchase new inventory and take on their next order – allowing them to create new jobs.

· Treasury Is Working to Quickly Implement the Small Business
Lending Fund and State Small Business Credit Initiative:
In addition
to these SBA provisions, Treasury is working to quickly implement two new
programs designed to support private-sector lending to credit-worthy small
businesses, and expects to release further details in the coming weeks
concerning applications for these programs.

o The Small Business Lending Fund would make available $30 billion in capital to
small banks with incentives to increase small business lending, potentially
supporting several multiples of that amount in new credit.

o The State Small Business Credit Initiative will support at least $15 billion in
new lending by strengthening state small business programs – many of them
facing budget cuts – that leverage private-sector lenders to extend additional
credit.

From A Writer’s POV has always reached out to established and up-and-coming authors and writers alike, giving interviews and features, and helping with their exposure in getting their books and writings noticed.

We are now expanding our attention to the young adult authors and writers of the literary world. We are starting a new feature in our printed Magazine called “The Youth Corner”, bringing the talents of our young writers age 19 and younger, to the forefront.

There are many writers, like ourselves, who started off writing at an early age, and we think giving them the exposure to have their writings noticed is incentive to further their writing career.

So, if you are age 19 or younger, or if anyone in your circle of friends and family is an author or up-and-coming writer, we would love to feature them in From A Writer’s POV Magazine!

Also, we want to recognize those authors that dedicate their writings to the young adult genre, and who writes children’s books. There is a large contingent of these kind of writers, so we would love to give you the platform to feature you and your books, too.

Entrepreneurial Success = Learning All You Can

10744054460?profile=originalAs a woman business owner it is important to learn all you can about being successful in business. If you're like most other entrepreneurs who want to stay in the know you probably follow thought leaders and gurus. But did you know that another great place to find success tips is by to simply pay attention to what you see in everyday life? Here's a few insights that I gleaned by observing the way an ant goes about its day.

Diligence

Ants are probably one of the best examples for learning about the power of diligence and how it helps produce great results. The smallest of all creatures it is likely one of the most productive of all living things. When compared to people who are slothful in work, the ant helps us see two distinct traits that lead to success. It is a model for traditional careers and for those who are self-employed. The ant realizes that there is a time to sow and a time to reap. Business cycles follow this same pattern so it is critical that we prepare for the ebbs and flows and to remain energetic in our work. As you anticipate the change in seasons maximize sales by raising the bar in productivity. You will be glad you did when there is adequate cash reserve to carry you through the not so good seasons.

Independence

In order to be successful, there are two behaviors that you can adopt from the ant's example. First, cultivate independence. It is important to be able to manage time well on your own without requiring supervision. Being your own boss requires you to make every effort to carry assignments through to completion. This will become second nature as you become more aware of the urgency to get work done within a specified time frame. When it comes to work ethics another lesson the ant teaches is to not put off tomorrow what you can do today. Allow this standard to become part of your work DNA so that you are consistent in following through.

Alertness

Another important point to note is that you also need to heighten your sense of alertness. Develop this skill by getting familiar with your company and industry's cycles. Conduct research often and prepare forecasts so that you are always ahead of the game. Use your findings to answer questions such as:

  • When is the best time to invest resources into marketing, networking and advertising?
  • When can you expect those results to produce?
  • What do you need to do now in order to ensure a bountiful harvest during peak and off seasons?

These are just a few tips that I learned from paying attention to the ant. I'd also love to hear yours.

To your productive day!
