Like Mary Mary sang..."it's the God in me". So, in essence when you really get to know yourself you are getting better acquinted with that source. Ishakamusa Barashango explains this concept exquisitely when he wrote: "Firstly, how does one dwell in the secret place of the Most High? The answer is simple. By going inside yourself. ARC China Signs Agreement for Ground Breaking Public-Private Joint Private Equity Fund in Dalian, China

Dalian Huayuankou Economic Zone and ARC China held a signingceremony on February 9th to form the Liaoning Huayuankou InvestmentFund (the "Fund"), which will be established through a joint investmenttotaling RMB 1 billion (approximately US$146 million). This is thefirst private equity fund in Dalian in partnership with the localgovernment, and the primary focus will be on investment in theindustrial economy. Mr. Dai Yulin, Dalian's Vice Mayor, Mr. DongChengfa, the Director of the Management Committee of HuayuankouEconomic Zone, and Adam Roseman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer ofARC China, attended the signing ceremony. Dalian, with a registeredpopulation of over 6 million and is one of two biannual locations ofSummer Davos.


The establishment of the Fund is not only a significant step in building aregional financial center in Dalian but also makes progress on aspecific initiative in the development of Huayuankou's new industrialbase and provides a means of supporting the goals of development ofboth industrial and financial infrastructure.

"New materials, new energy, consumer-oriented sectors, media,healthcare, natural resources, industrial technology, and aerospacewill be the focus of this Fund for the 10 year duration," said Mr.WangHai, Director of the Economic Development Bureau in Huayuankou EconomicZone. "This Fund can provide capital to forthcoming projects and thedevelopment of local enterprises. As the enterprises grow, the Fundwill make profits for the investors through a listing on the GrowthEnterprise Market or other exchange," he added. Having the support ofthe local government should increase the impact of the Fund and resultin more high-tech enterprises relocating to the Huayuankou EconomicZone.

ARC China will partner with the Westly Group, one of America'sleading clean technology venture capital firms, to promote the growthof China's burgeoning green technology market. The Westly Group is ledby former California State Controller (Chief Financial Officer) andeBay executive Steve Westly, and 30-year investment banking and venturecapital veteran Mike Dorsey.

ARC China is a wholly-owned foreign enterprise focusing oninvestment in China's domestic consumption-oriented high-growthenterprises in the developing Tier II and III cities. According to theagreement, ARC China will provide services for the development ofHuayuankou area including the overseas marketing of local companies,consulting local companies on accessing foreign capital markets, andproviding local companies with opportunities for international mergersand acquisitions and technology transfer. ARC China will expand accessfor companies in the Huayuankou Economic Zone to foreign capital andfacilitate an increase in local employment.

Mr. Dai Yulin said that the cooperation with ARC China is verypromising and there is much potential for success. He stated that hewould like to welcome the establishment of the Fund in Huayuankou onbehalf of the municipal government. "Dalian is the financial center ofnortheast China and 2010 is the year for private equity," he added.

Juice Fasting/Feasting And Appreciating Your Goddess "Temple"

In my previous post, I shared a little information about some unexpected health challenges I have been triumphantly overcoming these past 18 months. Thankfully, each day, I feel better and better. It has been an interesting journey to say the least.

Everyday as I walk around and go through my day, I give thanks that the pain that would leave me crying on my couch is finally gone. I am also grateful for the spiritual guidance that provided me with the patience to do the research that continues to heal my body, mind, and spirit.

Life is so precious and I want to live each day as fully as possible in good health, laughing until my sides hurt, and appreciating the miracles that life has in store for me.

To further enhance my healing, I have been actively embracing a more holistic lifestyle. It fascinates and saddens me to realize the neglectful way we treat our bodies. Our bodies are fragile housing that surrounds our spirit... the "light" and direct connection to our Higher power. Knowing this, you would think we would treat it with more respect and reverence.

Unfortunately, we do not. We treat it like a disposable rubbermaid container that we can just throwaway once we are done using it. I have been just as guilty as the next person of pushing myself and thinking everything will be alright. Well, I have learned my lesson. I am doing more to honor my body and the "light" that shines within.

I learned about juice fasting or as I prefer juice feasting (Feasting sounds much more enjoyable than fasting) from a friend of mine who is a Dr. of Oriental Medicine. He first mentioned it to me when I began to visit him for acupuncture treatments. He said it would help my body heal faster by giving it a chance to release stored toxins and waste.

I thought he was out of his mind... No way was I going to go without eating for 7 days. So, I ignored his advise. I can be bit stubborn at times : ) But, I am a fair person with an inquisitive mind. So, I decided to do some independent research. I read a variety of books and read through various websites and began to feel differently about doing a juice feast.

Finally, in January of this year. I decided to try my first juice feast. I purchased my friend's 7 day detox kit. I lasted 4 days. Not bad for a first time juice detox... I may have lasted seven but I dislike the taste of beets and I could not handle another day of the juice. So, I stopped.

But, here is the fun fact. Even with only 4 days of juicing, I lost 6 pounds and my body did not ache as much. I thought... this is interesting. So, in March I decided to try the Master Cleanse/Lemonade diet. I lasted 9 of the 10 days. Once again, I was tried of the juice. Oh my goodness, I sound like I have the attention span of a 5 year old : ) Lol

Still, I felt great, dropped 11 pounds (My friends saw me afterwards and thought I lost 20lbs.) and was amazed at how light my body felt. Needless to say, I was hooked. I had begun to better understand how to treat my body temple with more patience and give her a chance to truly heal from the inside out. It is an amazing feeling to understand how to help yourself in a way that is more nature and chemical free. It is a very joyful and uplifting moment that I wish everyone could experience.

Having shared this with you, as I am typing this blog post. I am on day 4 of my third juice feast this year. I have gotten smarter. I have taken the time to learn more about vegetable and fruit combinations to keep me from growing tired of drinking the same thing every day. I have done my research and learned about the different types of herbs to combine with my juice for maximum effect. I love it because, I feel like a holistic scientist in God's garden and I am more in tune with my body and her needs... emotionally, mentally, physically, and even more importantly spiritually.

I would like to share my current juice feasting experience. I figure if someone as stubborn as me can embrace change and experience better health. Maybe, my story will be enough to empower someone else to step out and try something new to honor her Goddess temple as well.

Give Yourself a Raise

This blog entry is in celebration of the birth of bwsquared.com, a website devoted to wealth consciousness for today's Black Woman! In honor of this new beginning, I share a little known method of how to give yourself a raise.

Yeah, you heard me right. Why wait for your boss to give you a raise when you have the power? You can thank the government for this little trick. Remember all those forms you had to fill out when you were first hired. Well one of those forms, the W-4 to be exact, directly affect the size of your paycheck. Most people do not realize they have the right to make changes to that form as many times as they see fit.

How it works?

The W-4 form is used by the IRS to determine how much federal withholding to collect from each paycheck. The concept is fairly simple. The more exemptions you claim, the less they withhold and vice versa.

Typically, the government takes more money than necessary to cover your federal tax bill for the year. If you receive a refund every year, then chances are you’re over paying the government. In essence, you are giving them a 0% interest loan not due until the following year with your hard-earned money. Now try going to the bank and asking for a loan with the same exact terms. I can only imagine the look the banker will give you. I’m sure he or she will question your sanity.

Why it works?

The beauty of it all is the IRS does not audit the W-4 form unless you claim some outrageous number of exemptions. There were stories at the tax desk of a trucker that once claimed 99 exemptions on his W-4 and wasn’t penalized for it. I suggest you do not go this far. Why take the chance of raising any red flags, when a slight adjustment will be sufficient? As long as your withholdings cover your tax bill you will be in the clear.

What it actually is?

If you’ve figured it by now, this raise is not an actual raise. Bravo. It’s an advance on your own money you have already earned. I know, a complete oxymoron, right!

The amount of money your paycheck may increase by will vary depending on how much you make and how much is being withheld. In my own experience, I have seen my paychecks increase up to $10 – $40 per week. Now this doesn’t seem like much, but an extra $25 during my struggling times meant all the difference in the world. I used this method when my company was furloughed, which would have reduced my paycheck by a fifth. This helped lessen the blow. When the furloughs were over, I simply change the number of exemptions I claimed back to its original number.

When to use this secret weapon?

I advise the average person to use this method only in times of distress or with a distinct plan of action in mind. For the average person lacking tax knowledge, this method should only be used as a temporary means to access cash. Here’s a list of ways to make the most :

  • Give yourself a personal gas holiday during the summer when prices are higher.
  • Apply this method a few months before the holiday season to help with purchasing gifts.
  • Invest it. If you have a 401K plan, funnel your new found dollars to your retirement plan.
  • Blow it. At the end of the day, it is your money. Do with it as you please.

It is up to you to determine the best way to use this money. However you decide, make sure its use is intentional. It can be very easy to squander away those dollars with no recollection of where they went.

How to get your raise?

Head to your human resource department or simply ask your boss for a W-4 form. If you can’t wait until tomorrow, download the form here. You only need to fill out the bottom portion of the first page. Line 5 is the critical line. This is where you enter the total number of exemptions you want to claim. Let’s say you are currently claiming 0 or 1, try increasing that number to 5 and see what happens. Turn it in and wait a week or so for processing. Then you are done. How is easy is that?

Remember to change it back to the original number of exemptions in a few months; especially if you are not 100% sure you will cover your tax bill. The point is not to be too greedy. You do have the legal duty of paying the government its fair share, but you are not oblige to pay one red cent more.

If you are like me and want to have all your cash upfront, don’t be afraid to consult a tax professional. Do not run to a CPA. They will charge too much for the information you seek. Instead, a tax preparer at one of those national tax chains will do. They may charge you a nominal fee, if at all. Your best chance of getting this information for free is during the tax season from tax preparer. They will already have most of your information and will only need to know a few more details to do a quick and dirty calculation.

Add this lesson to your arsenal of money tricks. You never know when you will need this in a pinch.
