Calling All Etsy Crafters and Artists

tiger.jpgAs a fellow Etsian myself I know what a challenge it is getting your shop’s name out there and drive traffic to your store. Last week I did a blog entry on jewelry boxes and instead of looking for an already established business that sells jewelry boxes I found a fellow Etsian and feature their shop in my blog entry. Well, I’ve decided to keep that going, beginning next week I will be posting an article on my blog featuring a piece from an Etsy store as one of my blog entries for that week. I figure it’s a great way to help us promote each other and extend our customer and network base. So if you have an Etsy shop and would like to be featured on The Pink Locket blog, email me your name and Etsy store name.Kamilah C.http://thepinklocket.com

I was recently asked to write for 'Fashion Chicago Magazine' about looks for under $100. So I decided to start with a trend that seems to be taking over the shoe-lovin' world. Are you into the heeled gladiator sandal?Visit Diary of a Personal Shopper to get connected!Cheers,Elana* And as I am developing ideas for my new opportunity as a blog Internet radio host, be sure to vote on my poll on what you'd like to see me cover. Las Vegas Pet Friendly Hotels

So you just can’t leave Fluffy at home. Well, luckily for you, there are some pet friendly hotels in Las Vegas that allow you to bring your furry little friend along with you. Now you don’t have to leave your pets in a kennel or pay a pet-sitter – they too can enjoy the excitement of Vegas, or at least the excitement of waiting around for you, as you enjoy Vegas.There are not a wide range of pet friendly Las Vegas hotels, but there are enough to satisfy most travelers. If you want to stay at a strip hotel, you might have a problem: there are only two places you’ll be able to store your pet. The highly rated Four Seasons, just south of Mandalay Bay.The Four Seasons has a couple rules that need to be followed for them to accept your pet. First, it must be under 25 pounds (similar weight restrictions abound through pet friendly hotels in Las Vegas), and second, and more difficult, your pet must not be left unattended. There is, however, no additional pet fee for keeping your pet here.When you are considering Las Vegas pet friendly hotels, make sure to check which pets are allowed – hotels such as La Quinta or Travelodge must be dogs or cats. Even if the pets are small or exotic, they will be turned away. So don’t go trying to sneak your flying squirrels or 6 foot pythons into these establishments.Another, technically, pet friendly Las Vegas strip hotel is Circus Circus. This is a technicality, however, since pets are not allowed inside the actual rooms or casino, but are restricted to the Circusland RV Park adjacent to the hotel. In fact, if you are looking to bring pets into the city, Las Vegas RV parks are a good bet. But if you don’t happen to have a recreational vehicle handy, most Vegas motels allow reasonably sized pets (under 50 lbs) and charge only a deposit instead of a non-refundable fee. The relative lack of popularity of these motels also means that they are much easier to book than the Las Vegas pet friendly hotels, too.Overall, the majority of pet friendly hotels in Las Vegas are the lower grade airport hotels. Howard Johnson Inn and Amerisuites both allow dogs and cats of all kinds for a small deposit, as does every Best Western within city limits.For those who want high class pet friendly Las Vegas hotels would do good to look at off-strip wonders such as the Green Valley Ranch and the Red Rock Resort and Spa. As long as they are under the 50 pound weight limit and you don’t mind paying a little extra to accommodate your trusted pet, these lodgings are perfect for you.By Destination360

MiniMizz ::: Stop! Mama Time!

At 11:11am on Monday, July 28th, my one and only child's flight pushed off from the gate. I took a sigh of relief as I watched it taxi down the runway, and then made my way back to my car. This year it only took me 1/2 hour to get over the "my baby's gone blues".My daughter and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary of leaving "The Rock" on July 9th. Most people think we're crazy for moving to Atlanta given they think it's all paradise (see TV1s One on One this Sunday to see which paradise I'm talking about). Island life isn't for everyone, and 'back home' has always been too small for me. Apparently, my daughter has caught that bug too. But when Uncle called and said he was sending a ticket, my girl jumped at the chance to go and see her beloved uncle and have a ride on his new jet ski, ride the motocross bike up and down the dump and eat her favorite foods that she can't find or haven't been perfected in Atlanta.For me, I welcomed it and thanked my little brother often. I haven't had a vacation since we moved back to the States. And know that vacations for me were not a day or two in another city of the same state. We got on a plane, and flew at least 900 miles in any direction from our little spot in the middle of the Atlantic, hit the museums, amusement parks and malls, and sometimes managed to visit family. I NEED a vacation. Badly. But for now, I will settle for Mama Vacay.What's a Mama Vacay? It's when the children (or child in my case) are GONE for more than 48 hours. Mine happens to be in another country, well taken care of, so I'm not really worried. I can go to McDonald's at 1 in the morning, or, as I am doing now, start my day at 9pm and end it the next day at 4am. No homework checks. No "mama I'm hungry". However that part of it is the pitfall of my daughter's leaving, since she is the house cook, and has been since she really got good at cooking at the age of 7. I think I'll be eating turkey on rye for the next 11 days. But, I digress. My first 3 days will be spent working on the changes to my business, and I will be celebrating Cheesecake Factory's 30th anniversary on Wednesday the 30th with a good friend and future business partner. I'll be networking at a few mixers, and going with a friend to a private concert with Jennifer Hudson. Mostly invitations I would have passed on because I would have to find a sitter, and all my sitters live back home.I can raid my change jar and treat myself to a white chocolate mocha with whip from Starbucks and not have to remember or feel guilty about not getting a caramel frappucino. I can get my flirt on at the gas station in good taste. I have designated one day that I can not get out of the bed except to get water and use the bathroom. I can clean the house on Saturday and know it will STAY clean until she returns the following week. I may even summon the chutzpah to change around my little office. I can eat saltines for dinner if I want. I can use MY laptop at MY leisure and give my office chair a rest.But even though I'll be able to do all the things a SBF with no kids can do, at the end of it all, I'll be beaming when my deeply tanned tweener steps off her flight, just in time for her to ask, "can I go to Skate Towne?", giving me all of 2 minutes before my first eye roll in 2 weeks.

Prepare Yourself to Move to the Next Level!

I am excited about my new business venture and where it is going! I believe without any doubt this is from GOD! For many years I struggle with what I wanted to do in life, what was my gifts and talents where, I tried many things to find my place and now God has allow me to see a small glimpse of what’s to come. I grew up in church all my life but for some reason I always that there was more that coming to church singing, praising God and then go home. Before I move to California almost seven years ago I told God in my prayer time LIFE has to be better than this! With my FAITH and only $500 is my pocket (borrow money) I left everything I knew and move to place I have never been. My life has never been the same. If you have the desire and the will, GOD has the plan! Step out and believe whatever it is you desire to do! Always seek good counsel and God will put you in the right direction.Everyone will NOT agree with your plan but along as you are in the WILL of God you can't go wrong. I am learning to wear tough skin when it is require. People will give you the own opinion of how this or that should be. I learn to quickly agree and say everyone is entitled to their own opinion and move own. DON'T lose focus!If it is business you are starting, going back to school, moving, a ministry or whatever it is DON'T lose focus! Prepare yourself to move to the next level!

You have probably seen her electrifying performance on the Apollo singing her sassy, jazzy rendition of Etta James' "At Last" making it her own soulful love song. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the songstress, Ms. Amanda Brown!Residing in the Bronx, Amanda Brown has always had a love and a dream for singing. She has grown into a burgeoning soloist in the making and has been truly blessed to work with amazing musicians, singers, dancers and writers throughout her growing career.Recently, Amanda was been blessed to have the opportunity to lend her unmistakable talents to the phenomenal, Ms. Alicia Keys; being givin the opportunity to perform as a backup vocalist for her world tour. She has also lent her beautiful vocals as backup to an up & coming soul diva in her own right, Ms. Honey LaRochelle, on many occasions.A couple of years ago, during one of SR's Caprice many performances as a backup vocalist for indie soul artist, Dexter Meyers, got her first glimpse of both ladies unmistakable talents while sharing the stage one evening at the Ace of Clubs and it was definitely a show to seen by all! If you weren't there, then you just lost out!!In 2007, she completed work on two songs "Luvin U" and "You Complete Me" in collaboration with production teams: Motesart and Partner's Management. Currently, she is fine tuning her debut release which could perhaps be a collection of love ballads, funky up-tempos or maybe a series of jazz tunes.If these two singles are indications of what her forthcoming release will reveal about this sultry artist, SR will be anticipating this song bird's debut into the world as the solo artist that she was meant to be.For more info, visit Amanda on MySpace @ www. myspace. com/amandabrownmusic

I've always been a thinker/brainstormer, full of ideas, dreams, goals, but then I always hit a brick wall when it comes to making all my ideas realized. I'm like a child; I want to do everything. I'm passionate about so many things, I have so many interests, so many ideas, its hard sometimes to settle on just one.Do I even really have to settle for only one idea? Maybe there is a reason I have so many ideas; perhaps my destiny is to fulfill them all. Bu at the moment, I would like to move past this hurdle I seem to always come across. I never am able, it seems, to move into the implementation phase. I think, talk, write and dream, but never start.What could be holding me back?I think that the fear of rejection is my biggest obstacle at this point. What if my idea doesn't catch on? What if people think my idea is dumb? My family is part of the reason I see things that way. Often we have discussions about possible businesses to start, but then someone always brings an aire of doubt that kills the confidence and enthusiasm.That plague of doubt has manifested itself into my thought patterns, and I defeat myself before I've even begun. I feel trapped and stuck, and that is very discouraging, because my heart is so into it.So if any of my BBWO sistas are out there reading this post, how did you/do you/will you move past the fear and doubt? How do you make yourself just jump out there and take the plunge? I understand that it will be difficult for me to ever succeed if I am not willing to risk something, but I'm afraid.

Use Your Resources Wisely

It is important to step out of the mentality of cyclical poverty into the land of freedom,wealth, and prosperity. Ironically you can't do that if you are spending frivolously and not taking advantage of your resources. While I lived in NY I did not use Public transportation. I did a lot of walking. Now that we are in West Virginia my son and I still walk, and bus rides are .50(yes, 50 cents) per ride. So that option is available although we do have a car. .50 vs. almost $4.00 I choose the bus. It is funny, people offer my son rides all the time but I always decline because walking very healthy for you and we live in a small town. So my point is that while we can afford to drive around in our vehicle all the time, we don't! A book was written about the millionaire next door. Not all millionaires spend their money recklessly. They drive beat up cars, wear regular clothes, and usually are very cheap. That is how they became rich. For example, a very wealthy silver dealer in NY asked me if I could sell some silver that he was interested in buying from us for a much lower price than bargain price that we offered. He could sell only 4 pieces of the 28 pieces of silver and make his money that he spent on the purchase back. The rest of the money is his profit. There are also your public millionaires who spend their money very wisely as well. Months ago an article was written about Clinton's campaign being in the red by 8 million dollars. Why not? Rather than pay the expenses immediately, the funds can be invested so that they make the 8 million back plus a surplus of extra funds. So it is not a crime not to pay your bills on time especially when they will eventually be paid. This is what I mean by thinking outside the box. This is a term used often among very wealthy people.In truth the only thing that we absolutely need in life is food, shelter, and clothing. There are ways to spend wisely around these things as well. If ideally you can't grow your own food or join a community co-op you can shop at warehouses like Sam's Club to buy food in bulk. Also you can buy multiple sale items to keep on hand when you need them. You can shop at the Thrift or discounted clothing store for clothes. You can get a roommate or take in a border for shelter. Although TV, cable, cell phones, movies tickets or DVDs, etc. are luxury items there are still ways to have and use them without spending a lot of money. For example while we don't watch a lot of TV our son loves animals, so he watches some on-line videos from the "National Geographic Channel. While TV is a luxury the Internet is a necessity for us and it actually helps us with using our resources wisely. I challenge those who read this blog to make a list of things to save $100 in the next month by eliminating items that you don't need. And I invite those that have tips on using your resources wisely to please share in the comments section of this blog. YHWH wants us to blessed by using our resources wisely. (Deu/Debarim 11) And YHWH shall make you to have plenty of what is good, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land of which YHWH swore to your fathers to give you. Have a blessed and prosperous week.Shalom,Tamar
