LESS SPENDING MORE CREATIVE INVESTING

Now is the time to invest in assets like stock, commodities, antiques, etc. Since we are in recession there are a lot of opportunities to get in at the bottom and work your way up to the top. Why did Indy Mac and Bear Sterns close . "Fear". No matter how much you analyze this tragedy, people panicked and started pulling their money out. As mentioned before, the lesson that we all must learn from this event, is that you have to believe that you take care of your money better than anyone else. Some people will tend to take this to the extreme, by saying that they don't have the money to invest. Ironically, in all cases, this is not true. The truth is that he or she chooses not to think out side of the box, and actively seek out the money. I remember having a tenant who claimed that she was ill and could not work. Meaning that she could not pay the rent when it was due. While I tried to work with her eventually I had to evict her after my property was placed in jeopardy of foreclosure. My nightmare was just beginning after she was finally out of the property, and I had clean up the mess that she and her family left in the house. I realized that for someone who "claimed" not have any money, you would have never known by looking at how she lived. I found several cell phone boxes; many beer bottles, a satellite dish on the roof; etc. I guess I was naive and thought that she and her family were very poor. That was far from fact. I had another tenant that was on section 8, but claimed that she could not come up with the remainder of the money for her rent. Again it was hard to tell she was having problems paying rent. She was on permanent disability and received child support for her son, even though she was not really disabled to the point where she could not work at all. It would have been easy for her live on the food, shelter, clothing principle.. Even if she were to do away with all of the luxuries like the big screen TV, cell phone, cable, etc for only six months she could have invested $2000-$3000 in assets, Since she was renting a two bedroom home she have found a roommate. She could have chosen a better life for her son but instead she chose to "stay in the box". In summary I strongly believe that it is very possible for people who get public assistance, to free themselves from the government in 6-12 months. All it takes is discipline, and a unique way thinking. You will not be successful if you choose to go along with mainstream society and their belief system..Before I end this weeks topic I also want to speak briefly to anyone who has someone else like a family, spouse, etc that he or she is responsible for. It is imperative that everyone can come to some type of understanding about a specific goal. For example, it just will not work if the head of the household wants to stop spending money on unnecessary things while the others want to spend money on toys, video games, etc. The use of the items just mentioned, only serves to make someone else wealthy. These people have already invested, by putting a product on the market that people are willing to spend their money on. It is time to stop making other people rich, by investing in yourself and your family. This is the challenge for the week. For example instead of spending $40-$60 on going to the movies, go to an Antique mall, book store, museum, auction house, etc. And if you still want to see a movie, go on line after you do at least one of the activities that was previously mentioned, and you can see movies for free. If someone gives you money, don’t spend all of it. Ideally you want to invest it all. Think about it, if you were not given the money, would you not have found a way to accomplish what you wanted to accomplish. So think of the money as excess, and make it grow and work for you. Have a blessed and prosperous rest of the week and thank-you very much for you continued support of this blog.ShalomTamar

You Can Buy a Home Now!

First things first. Why would any one have a blog, a web site and write articles on buying a home in this economic climate? If you’re thinking this woman must be totally out of it, well, in some ways, but not regarding purchasing a home. The best first mortgage and down payment assistance programs currently available were all created during times of national economic hardship. FHA 3% down payment mortgages and VA 100% guaranteed mortgages are just two programs created when folks had a need for low down payments to be able to purchase a home.As we pull out of this financial crisis, I believe more assistance will become available, not only for homeowners, but also for first time homebuyers. If you have a stable job history of two years, have paid your bills on time, kept you credit accounts down to a minimum, and have some money saved, there is no reason why you can’t be in a home of your within a few months. Now is always the best time to own a home.Myhomedownpayment.com is a nationwide directory of down payment assistance programs for low-to-moderate income families (most of us fall into this income group). Down payment assistance and closing costs programs exist on the national, state, county, and city levels. Take advantage of these programs. You need to be willing to do your homework, find ethical and knowledgeable real estate and mortgage professionals to assist you, and begin to enjoy the pleasures of home ownership. The author, Yasmin Sabur, is the founding member of My Home Down Payment and myhomedownpayment.com, e-education businesses promoting affordable housing through mortgage down payment assistance programs for low-to-moderate income families.

I have been so inspired by Will Smith words from his recent interview from the movie Seven Pounds, in his interview he talks about living life with a purpose, and his words touched home, as I am committed to living my Soul Purpose. This year I am focusing on my life's purpose. I started my new business with Soul Purpose, I love the vision and the purpose of the company. I love the idea of empowering people to find their purpose in life.In Will Smith's interview he says" The thing that I connected to for this character in Seven Pounds is purpose. When you can connect your life to a purpose, to an idea beyond yourself, it becomes bigger than your loss, bigger than your pain. It almost becomes this fantastic spiritual ladder," he says, grabbing at ever-higher invisible rungs in front of him, "that you climb out of your emotional hole." He goes on to say that he is at a point in his life where he has made a decision that nothing he does in his life is going to be without a purpose, and the only true happiness is the service to help humanity. Will Smith says his new mantra is: Whose life is better because you woke up today? The words I believe are so true I do belive that if you are not making someone else's life better than you are wasting you time. I am at a point in my life where I have found my life's purpose and I am inspired to help others achieve success or find their purpose in life whatever that might be. With God's will in my life I am know it is possible.I pray that you find your life's purpose and that you continue to grow and that I have inspired you to make someone else's life better.God BlessLaKeisha Baker

Happy New Year!Getting organized is never fun, but I wanted to post a few tips to help you get your business in order for 2009. As a virtual assistant, I am constantly creating, and receiving files, meeting new people, and earning new business. I am introduced to all types of programs and business solutions that keep me on my toes that I am ready to share with you.Step 1: Get Rid of the JUNK!I know you think you need to save everything, but you don't! Don't become a victim of "Pack Rat" Syndrome. Sort through your paperwork and get rid of anything that will not disrupt business if you toss it. Head out to Office Depot and invest in new file folders and keep financial records separate from important client/customer files. Anything related to 2008, put in a special file cabinet and only go back to it if you need an important document. Back up as much information as you can on a flash drive to eliminate unneeded documents floating around your desk and keep space on your hard drive. The last thing you need is your computer bogged down and running slowly.Step 2: Organize your email folders.I do this at the end of everyday due to the amount of email I receive! I create special folders for each client that I work with and receive mail on a regular basis. I save each and every email and sort it as it comes in. I may not have time to reply to an email immediately, but I will flag it for follow up until I am ready, then add it to its' respective folder. Keeping your inbox clear of junk keeps you focused on the important emails, the ones that need to be replied to right away.Step 3: Organize Your Contact ListSort through your contact list, (email, phone, blackberry) and delete anyone that you do not know well or have contact with any longer. If you want to keep their contact information just in case, invest in an old school address book and keep that information there in case you decide to use it later. You do not want too many contacts taking up memory and space if you are not going to use them.Step 4: Create an Action Plan for 2009I know this may be time consuming but it is worth it. After the kids have gone to bed and you have a moment of silence, take the time out to think about what your goals and objectives are for 2009. Create a time line and follow it closely. Make of list of everything that you will need to achieve your goals including supplies, a team of professionals, or positive cash flow. Do not leave anything out and take your time, this is your business at stake! Keep your action plan near your desk to refer to throughout the year. A few of my goals for the new year are organizing my Virtual Assistant Networking Organization, Launching AAMBC Kids, and promoting my book tour for my clients. These tasks will require a solid plan along with a positive cash flow. I have also outlined the steps that I need to take to get my Vision in Motion (smile) and keep it close by.Step 5: Update Your Business Solutions and Software ApplicationsI have found that the business solutions that I used in 2007 did not work for me in 2008, simply because business grew beyond my expectations. I recommend the following software that may be aligned with your goals this year:Zoho CRMWhere has this program been all of my life, I love it! Zoho allows you to track lead generation & qualification, sales pipeline analysis, sales stage & probability analysis, competitor analysis, real-time sales forecasting, sales quota management, sales reports & dashboards and other useful metrics. These functions give a business an opportunity to completely focus on customer issues such as retention and loyalty rather than sales process, which will help increase sales revenue.Zoho CRM has sales force automation modules such as, leads, potentials, accounts, contacts, and sales-forecasting. You can accurately track all business opportunities and close more deals in less time. Additionally, you can identify trends in the sales process in advance, thereby effectively utilize existing customer data for future cross-selling and up-selling opportunities.Zoho Crm also offers web meetings (similar to goto meeting) appointment scheduling, and provides the features that you need the most. You can even email a customer directly from the CRM!The best part is IT'S FREE!!!Constant ContactI am sure you are all familiar with Constant Contact but it is such a great tool that I wanted to add it to the list. Remember that contact list that you updated in step 2? Now use those contacts effectively by designing an email campaign through Constant Contact. Make sure that your email blast is only sent to those that expressed interest (NO spamming in 09') and has a thorough and detailed explanation of the products or services you offer. If you aren't sure how to create a email campaign that will get the desired results, seek out assistance. There are plenty of Virtual Assistants out there (smiling again) that can help you put it together for a small fee. It is worth it if you are not sure how to appeal to your target market.Ring CentralAre you tired of using your cell phone for business? Tired of using a fax machine that requires you to make sure it is turned on, stocked with paper and ready to go? With Ring Central you can set-up a 1-800 number for your business plus a toll free fax line for $14.99 a month. This is one service that I cannot live without, especially with the low cost. I can receive faxes 24/7 and it arrives as a PDF that I can save directly to my flash drive. I rarely print anymore unless I am faxing something back to someone that requires my signature.Step 7: Take time out to relax! This is a difficult step for me personally, because I am a workaholic! We must remember that we are in business for ourselves to enjoy all of the benefits with our family and friends. Take time out to pray, meditate, or just watch a good movie and share laughter with those that mean the most to you. Eat healthy foods, and get plenty of rest. Make the 2009 the year that you turn off the computer before 1:00 am. In other words, no eating Mcdonald's at Midnight while you surf the web, stressing yourself out to bring in new business. LOLThese are only a few tips, if you want more, please post a comment to show your interest and I will post the best ones!God Bless!Mittie Stephens-LewisVirtual AssistantBusiness Support by MittieOur Official Website!

Wow - The End of Another Year . . .

And another new beginning. I'm not sure, but this may be the happiest time of my life (I say that every year and it's always true). I love what I do and I love the people who have come into my life because of it - you! It's been an interesting year and I look forward to another one. Like many of you, I've had my personal woes with illness, work, money and family, but it all just makes me appreciate my life all the more. gohan%5B1%5D.JPGBesides, now I wonder how to write about everything that happens to me now. I'm still trying to find the humor in my visit to the emergency room not long after the BAS Holiday Book Fair - my Japanese Akita hit me in the face with his HUGE head and I thought I would loose my entire front grill! And not a dent in his big head!!!! Hmmm . . . gotta love 'em - I've been hopped up on Tylenol with Codeine ever since. No worries though - after 3 x-rays no fractures were found. So what I have to eat mush for the next month? It'll help me lose weight! I'm just grateful I get to keep my crooked front teeth another year. It's amazing what the prospect of an African American president can do for the psyche. This may be the most difficult financial time since the 30's, but it's even more difficult NOT to see the exciting promise of tomorrow. This is the best time ever to start something new - a business, a book, education - now is the time to be open to new opportunities. Speaking of gratitude, I'd like to give a shout out to some of those online literary providers that have started and kept this business humming. Big ups to Tee C. Royal of Raw Sistas for an outstanding online literary conference - great job! Question to Sylvia Hubbard and Yasmin Coleman - how do you keep up the pace? You two are phenomenal and we owe so much to you - thanks for your hard work and ethics. Thank you to our many members who have linked from their sites and blogs and those that have written informative articles to share with the membership. Next year we will make it easier to navigate to your content and will create additional help features.
This morning 'The Cushite' (Vince of The First World Books & Specialty Shop) sent Kwanzaa greetings to many of us on this site reminding us of the meaning of the holiday. My favorite has always been Nia - Purpose, but I noticed today that the seven principles illustrate well what this website (BAS) is striving to achieve within the literary landscape.
How The Black Author Showcase Encompasses the Seven Principles:
  • We wish to promote unity among multicultural lovers of literature, writers and readers - anyone that brings a book to life.
  • We support the self-determination that is needed to create a personal work of art. To define ourselves and not be defined by others is all that we ask.
  • This literary community is an example of the beauty of collective work and responsibility. Do your best, give your best, and live up to your word. You are building your legacy.
  • Buying books and services from people that look like you is the cooperative economic concept that has helped every successful immigrant (Korean, Italian, Jewish - they all buy from "their own" first and others second) in America. It has taken us way too long to accomplish this, however it is never too late.
  • Our purpose has been the building and developing of this growing community to help others create better books, get the information needed to do so and to connect with others that can assist in the journey. When our brothers and sisters do well, we at the top of the world.
  • The creativity that has come forth and is exhibited amongst our membership has been overwhelming. We learn something from every new member interview or poetry show. We are just happy to be able to say "I knew them when . . ." because there are many simmering stars in this community.
  • We will always believe that we can achieve greatness by helping each other. We have faith in the real hearts of our people . . . the "crabs in the barrel" attitude cannot last forever. There is more than enough money and success to go around to everyone in the literary field. Competition is a good thing, it keeps you fresh. Never forget that our faith in you will never diminish.
  • Happy Holidays from all of us at the Black Author Showcase!

The Seven Principles of Kwanzaa: Umoja (Unity): To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race. Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves. Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility) To build and maintain our community together and make our brother's and sister's problems our problems and to solve them together. Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)To build and maintain our own stores, shops and other businesses and to profit from them together. Nia (Purpose) To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. Kuumba (Creativity) To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it. Imani (Faith) To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

Ready for the NEW in 2009

Networking is on the top of my list for 2009. I have vowed to come out of my shell socially and meet and greet in person in an attempt to get the message out there and balance the networking done via the internet by interacting and networking in-state(s) as well.I am looking forward to speaking engagements across the US in the very near future. I enjoy teaching women how to walk in their truth, to love and accept themselves and to fulfill their purpose.I am a self-esteem advocate, a poet, writer and speaker- an educator of divine truths, bringing healing naturally by teaching application of biblical principles and helping women come to a place of wholeness. I also enjoy speaking at different events as a poet specializing in personalized poetry for all occasions. I love expressing others in a way that is beautiful and powerful. Poetry transcends boundaries, bridging gaps, bringing people together in a way like I've never seen. A lyric that comes from the heart always does and it is an honor to be the vessel used to do that. Please feel free to recommend me in any of the arenas I've mentioned and if you've not, please check out the websites to get a better feel for the woman behind Women of Destiny, LLC ~ "Purpose-Minded to Promise." TMI look forward to communicating with you further; until then, be blessed. 2009 is going to be the most wonderful year, can't you feel the excitement? It's stirring deep within... THE 100TH MONKEY

The 100th MonkeyA story about social change.By Ken Keyes Jr.The Japanese monkey, Macaca Fuscata, had been observed in the wild for a period of over 30 years. In 1952, on the island of Koshima, scientists were providing monkeys with sweet potatoes dropped in the sand. The monkey liked the taste of the raw sweet potatoes, but they found the dirt unpleasant. An 18-month-old female named Imo found she could solve the problem by washing the potatoes in a nearby stream. She taught this trick to her mother. Her playmates also learned this new way and they taught their mothers too. This cultural innovation was gradually picked up by various monkeys before the eyes of the scientists. Between 1952 and 1958 all the young monkeys learned to wash the sandy sweet potatoes to make them more palatable. Only the adults who imitated their children learned this social improvement. Other adults kept eating the dirty sweet potatoes. Then something startling took place. In the autumn of 1958, a certain number of Koshima monkeys were washing sweet potatoes -- the exact number is not known. Let us suppose that when the sun rose one morning there were 99 monkeys on Koshima Island who had learned to wash their sweet potatoes. Let's further suppose that later that morning, the hundredth monkey learned to wash potatoes.THEN IT HAPPENED!By that evening almost everyone in the tribe was washing sweet potatoes before eating them. The added energy of this hundredth monkey somehow created an ideological breakthrough! But notice: A most surprising thing observed by these scientists was that the habit of washing sweet potatoes then jumped over the sea...Colonies of monkeys on other islands and the mainland troop of monkeys at Takasakiyama began washing their sweet potatoes. Thus, when a certain critical number achieves an awareness, this new awareness may be communicated from mind to mind.Although the exact number may vary, this Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon means that when only a limited number of people know of a new way, it may remain the conscious property of these people. But there is a point at which if only one more person tunes-in to a new awareness, a field is strengthened so that this awareness is picked up by almost everyone! From the book "The Hundredth Monkey" by Ken Keyes, Jr.The book is not copyrighted and the material may be reproduced in whole or in part.Read the whole book.________________________________________Please Note:The 100th Monkey Theory has been on the WOW site since 1996, and we occasionally receive letters claiming that it was a hoax or fake.We contacted Penny Gillespie, who was married to Ken Keyes and participated in his work and writing. Here is her response:I'm not sure what you mean by "fake." The Hundredth Monkey is a real book and hundreds of thousands of copies were printed and circulated, often through university courses. People bought them by the case and gave them away. The story of the hundredth monkey came from a writing by Rupert Sheldrake. After our book was printed, there was some question about whether the study was authentic. Ken presented the story as a legend, or phenomenon; the concepts of morphogenetic fields and critical mass are very true and the story serves to illustrate them.Hope that answers your question. All the best,Penny GillespiePresident's Club, Platinum Wellness Consultantwww.5Pillars.com/pennygillespie________________________________________We were also forwarded the following article that "puts a new light on this popular story"The Hundredth Monkey Revisitedby Elaine MyersGoing back to the original sourcesputs a new light on this popular storyIs there some magic key that provides a short cut to cultural transformation?THE STORY OF "The Hundredth Monkey" has recently become popular in our culture as a strategy for social change. Lyall Watson first told it in Lifetide (pp147- 148), but its most widely known version is the opening to the book The Hundredth Monkey, by Ken Keyes. (See below.)The story is based on research with monkeys on a northern Japanese Island, and its central idea is that when enough individuals in a population adopt a new idea or behavior, there occurs an ideological breakthrough that allows this new awareness to be communicated directly from mind to mind without the connection of external experience and then all individuals in the population spontaneously adopt it. "It may be that when enough of us hold something to be true, it becomes true for everyone." (Watson, p148)I found this to be a very appealing and believable idea. The concept of Jung's collective unconscious, and the biologists' morphogenetic fields (IN CONTEXT #6} offer parallel stories that help strengthen this strand of our imaginations.Archetypes, patterns, or fields that are themselves without mass or energy, could shape the individual manifestations of mass and energy. The more widespread these fields are, the greater their influence on the physical level of reality. We sometimes mention the Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon when we need supporting evidence of the possibility of an optimistic scenario for the future, especially a future based on peace instead of war. If enough of us will just think the right thoughts, then suddenly, almost magically, such ideas will become reality. However, when I went back to the original research reports cited by Watson, I did not find the same story that he tells. Where he claims to have had to improvise details, the research reports are quite precise, and they do not support the "ideological breakthrough" phenomenon. At first I was disappointed; but as I delved deeper into the research I found a growing appreciation for the lessons the real story of these monkeys has for us. Based on what I have learned from the Japan Monkey Center reports in Primates, vol. 2, vol. 5 and vol. 6, here is how the real story seems to have gone.Up until 1958, Keyes' description follows the research quite closely, although not all the young monkeys in the troop learned to wash the potatoes. By March, 1958, 15 of the 19 young monkeys (aged two to seven years} and 2 of the 11 adults were washing sweet potatoes. Up to this time, the propagation of the innovative behavior was on an individual basis, along family lines and playmate relationships. Most of the young monkeys began to wash the potatoes when they were one to two and a half years old. Males older than 4 years, who had little contact with the young monkeys, did not acquire the behavior.By 1959, the sweet potato washing was no longer a new behavior to the group. Monkeys that had acquired the behavior as juveniles were growing up and having their own babies. This new generation of babies learned sweet potato washing behavior through the normal cultural pattern of the young imitating their mothers.By January, 1962, almost all the monkeys in the Koshima troop, excepting those adults born before 1950, were observed to be washing their sweet potatoes. If an individual monkey had not started to wash sweet potatoes by the time he was an adult, he was unlikely to learn it later, regardless of how widespread it became among the younger members of the troop. In the original reports, there was no mention of the group passing a critical threshold that would impart the idea to the entire troop. The older monkeys remained steadfastly ignorant of the new behavior. Likewise, there was no mention of widespread sweet potato washing in other monkey troops. There was mention of occasional sweet potato washing by individual monkeys in other troops, but I think there are other simpler explanations for such occurrences. If there was an Imo in one troop, there could be other Imo-like monkeys in other troops.Instead of an example of the spontaneous transmission of ideas, I think the story of the Japanese monkeys is a good example of the propagation of a paradigm shift, as in Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. The truly innovative points of view tend to come from those on the edge between youth and adulthood. The older generation continues to cling to the world view they grew up with. The new idea does not become universal until the older generation withdraws from power, and a younger generation matures within the new point of view.It is also an example of the way that simple innovations can lead to extensive cultural change. By using the water in connection with their food, the Koshima monkeys began to exploit the sea as a resource in their environment. Sweet potato washing led to wheat washing, and then to bathing behavior and swimming, and the utilization of sea plants and animals for food. "Therefore, provisioned monkeys suffered changes in their attitude and value system and were given foundations on which pre-cultural phenomena developed." (M Kawai, Primates, Vol 6, #1, 1965).What does this say about morphogenetic fields, and the collective unconscious? Not very much, but the "ideological breakthrough" idea is not what Sheldrake's theory of morphogenetic fields would predict anyway. That theory would recognize that the behavior of the older monkeys (not washing) also is a well-established pattern. There may well be a "critical mass" required to shift a new behavior from being a fragile personal idiosyncrasy to being a well-established alternative, but creating a new alternative does not automatically displace older alternatives. It just provides more choices. It is possible that the washing alternative established by the monkeys on Koshima Island did create a morphogenetic field that made it easier for monkeys on other islands to "discover" the same technique, but the actual research neither supports nor denies that idea. It remains for other cultural experiments and experiences to illuminate this question. What the research does suggest, however, is that holding positive ideas (as important a step as this is) is not sufficient by itself to change the world. We still need direct communication between individuals, we need to translate our ideas into action, and we need to recognize the freedom of choice of those who choose alternatives different from our own.from: http://www.context.org/ICLIB/IC09/Myers.htmhttp://www.wowzone.com/monkey.htm

We all know being a woman comes with multitasks. Women are mothers, wives, employees or employers, children of God and our own person as well. So, how do we multitasks and be the woman we want to be at the same time? Here are three things I do daily;#3- Organization - As your demands in life grow, you have to have a system in place, so you won't feel overwhelmed. Staying ahead of the game is so important if you are a mom. When the kids go to sleep, try to plan for the next day. When they get to a age you think they can help out with chores, assign some of your work load. This teaches them responsibilities too.My son will be turning three and I am teaching him, how to clean up after himself. I show him where to put his toys where they belong.#2- Me Time - This is very important. I must have me time every single day, no matter what. When your children go to sleep, and after you planned ahead for the next day, have some "me time", even if it's taking a bubble bath.Me time apply to every women, whether you are married with no kids, not married with kids or not married and no kids, you still definitely need me time. We lose ourselves to what we do in our everyday lives, we forget about ourselves or put ourselves last. If we don't take out time for ourselves, we lose ourselves and if we lose ourselves we will begin to not recognize ourselves.#1- Communication With God Daily - No matter what, live by this daily. This is something that truly keeps me. If I did not have a daily relationship with God I would not be able to do what I do. Communication with God daily is something you can do even if you are lying dowm before you go to sleep at night, or before you start your day in the morning. Especially when you are outside your home, and you find yourself thinking, think on God too!!!Sincerely,Victoria DYour Motivational FriendFounder of www.memyselfandlife.com
