I Hosted a "Peep Show Party..."

SUCCESS, that’s how I’d label my most recent party.  The small guest list enhanced my intimate gathering just as I’d anticipated.  It seemed as if my guests had come together because everyone was on time.  As we began to party, each one set his or her own mood and pace.  We communicated when questions arose and made sure we had satisfied the other’s need; Aaahhh, such beauty.  The party’s order of events was simple; I wrote, they read & are now raving about my 2nd book, My Heart Speaks…of Boys and a Girl, debuting today, Tuesday, 21 February 2012.

Do You Know What Your Customers Really Want

 


There's a lot of discussion about what customers really want these days. I have to say that, listening is among the most crucial skills that you are able to learn. If you are able to really stop and listen to your customers, you are able to pave the path to ongoing business success.

Listening calls for paying attention and reacting to the needs and wants of customers. If you want to have your own business, you have to practice the art of active listening.

It is not good enough to react to clients. You have to be able to anticipate their needs. Listening to clients is about placing your company to be the answer to buyer needs, ideally previously them even asking.

Listening is about getting involved with your clients. This includes really spending time with them, exploring things that are significant to them, studying magazines and books that are written for them, and being an authority in the things that matter to them.

You’re business ought to have an ideal customer. This is the perfect client for you. You need to get in the minds of your ideal client, and the more ideal the better. These are the ideal type of clients you ought to be paying attention to.


A client is somebody who's purchased from you or the company you work for. You ought to treat clients, prospects, and general public with equal respect. You need to spend your time listening to these individuals who you most want as clients using tools and strategies.


Here are some key tips to keep in mind:

1. Offline, you should be conducting client surveys and talking to clients and people. Go to trade shows and conferences that are likewise attended by your ideal clients. If there are none in your area, start one.

2. As your expertise grows, you might want to think about doing a few speaking engagements. This is an awesome way to meet people and to get individuals to tell you about the problems that they face.

3. Online, the opportunities are endless. You are able to listen on Twitter with the help of Twitter Search. You are able to track key words and phrases across the net utilizing Google Alerts.

Last week I published a blog post, Blogging Tips: How to Blog Your Way to Writing a Book. I wrote about the process that I used to write the content of my upcoming book from a series of blog posts.  I received a comment from a reader named, Tamara who said,

“Congrats on finishing your manuscript! I love the concept of blogging your way to publishing a book. I am a dessert blogger, so my question is do you think this can work for me too? I already have a few concepts in mind for cookbooks, but I think recipe development is key for me as opposed to writing lengthy blog posts. What are your thoughts?”

Tamara also left a similar comment on my Facebook business page, so I answered it there. As I was thinking of a response I got the idea for a blog post because there may be others of you out there who are thinking about using your blog to help you come up with the content for a book.

1. Announce your intention to write a book on your blog

Announcing your intention of writing a book publicly on your blog serves several purposes at once. It creates a sense of accountability. Now that you’ve announced it publicly, you better believe that your readers are going to ask you about how it’s going, and it makes the project more real to you and that might motivate you to stick with it until it is finished.

2. Blog about the theme of your book

If you are working with a publisher, then you’ve already done the work of creating a book proposal for your project. Now you will tailor your blog posts to fit in with the outline of the book. You will not be writing the entire book—word for word—on your blog. Greetings to my sisters and like-minded entrepreneurs:

My name is Gloria Hyson, author and spoken word performer. Although I have been a member of BBWO since 2009, I have not been active. But, the time has come for me to jump into the circle of social networking to share the pains and joys of a business woman's life with others like myself.

This year finds me full of energy that comes from above. And, since life is a journey, I look forward each and every day knowing God the Father will see me through. Among my many projects I have released an inspirational spoken word CD titled, "Walk With Me." I have entered the BE Insider Poetry Jam Contest 2012 hosted by State Farm, and hope you will take the time to view my video I have submitted above.

Well, we are in the month set aside for Black History, and BBWO sisters allow me to testify that God has been good to me. This year I plan to build on the momentum gained from last year this time when I opened for Dorthy Norwood at the Back to Church Gospel Fest. What a wonderful experience it was to work with Ms Norwood and Elroy Roberts Production. Only God knows what wonder awaits us in 2012!

Sisters, life is a journey and full of challenges. There is so much I look forward to doing in 2012, but being part of the BBWO social network is top priority. I look forward to connecting with you over the course of this year.
