My MLM Caused Me To Go BankruptTuesday, April 7th, 2009 at 12:54 pmAs I think back on the “booming days” of 2005, I am refreshed by the thought of a thriving economy, smiling faces, good news and a very cushy life. 2005 was my best year ever, earning my first six figure income with the opportunity to pursue my life long dream of real estate investing.I bought 3 properties that year, dumping thousands of dollars in cash into one of them, which was our primary residence. I just new that I would be able to turn things around and flip in a year or two, with the potential to make an easy $100k…………December of 05 would be my best month yet. I had scored over $30k in commissions. Trying to be a wise duck, I invested it into what I thought was a “safe investment” (my home), little did I know what would lie ahead.After December 05, my next closing wasn’t until May of 06. Fortunately, in the meantime, I had enough cash to last us for a while, covering two mortgages amongst several thousands of dollars in overhead. The pressure was on and the reality was setting in that the market was on a downturn, and property values were slowly decreasing. With that in mind, I quickly began seeking out other outlets to generate extra income to position myself for financial security, in hopes of avoiding a financial crisis.Then along came a “business opportunity” that I just knew would be the answer to my financial worries. I jumped at the opportunity with overzealous excitement and began to tell the world about “my company”. I can’t lie, it was good, really good in the beginning. I was able to see a great response with tons of people joining along with me with just as much enthusiasm as I.However, months into it…I realized that I was in over my head more than I realized financially. And no matter how much money I was making in my MLM, I still didn’t have enough to cover my excessive expenses. Panic was setting in as I saw that I couldn’t pay my $2500 mortgage much longer, or afford the nearly $2500 that came along with the maintenance of my house.My total overhead was over $7000 A MONTH, and by the looks of it, as much as my MLM company was willing to pay me, I still had far too many mountains of debt that I couldn’t afford to pay….Not to mention the “Attrition” and other challenges that I saw occur with my business. After a while, I realized that I was in over my head, and in order to save my marriage and protect my mental sanity, I realized that I needed to let some things go, including my pride, and FILE BANKRUPTCY!!Nearly a year and a half later, I’m pleased to say that filing bankruptcy was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. With a newborn on the way, we were able to focus on creating a new life for our child with far less overhead and unnecessary responsibilities. Although I wanted to blame my MLM for being the cause of my situation, I came to the realization that it was actually a blessing and an amazing opportunity. But I was not positioned to take advantage of it because I had come in to the business with too much debt.After sharing this with a friend the other day, he began to tell me how so many people have been faced with the same situation, jumping into MLM in hopes of it being their rescue boat from their financial sinking ship. I get those calls every day where people are desperate to HURRY UP AND MAKE MONEY, with MLM being their only option. If that is your story, I do not want to discourage you because MLM is truly an amazing opportunity to generate some quick cash……I’ve benefited from the industry a great deal.However, my point in sharing this story with you is to get you to realize a few things that you MUST DO, in order to really succeed in this industry while protecting your financial future:1. MLM is only 1 source of income that you should be working on. Because it can take time to generate leads and a consistent base of income, it isn’t promised that you will make enough money to cover your household expenses. Therefore, YOU MUST FIND ADDITIONAL STREAMS OF INCOME!!!! …..which leads me to point #22. You Need A Funded Proposal! A funded proposal is a way for you to generate income online while building your MLM business. It solves the 2 basic problems that most network marketers have which are:1. Lack of Leads2. Lack of Money To Support Your MLM Business.A Funded Proposal will allow you to make money through the use of Affiliate Programs where you will Make Money from the sell and marketing of other peoples products, while generating leads for your business. Find a mentor that will have your best interest in mind, and will be willing to guide you in the process of generating a consistent online income. This journey is very challenging and a bit overwhelming. It’s easy to tell you what to do, but the truth is, you need to be told “how to do it”. Three hundred churches throughout the Memphis area sponsored a multicultural, multigenerational revival for women this past weekend. In doing so, they answered Ellen Olford’s heartfelt prayer.Redemption 2009, the free two-day gathering held March 27 and 28 at the Cook Convention Center, drew 7,000-8,000 women on balmy Friday night while 5,000-6,000 braved gusty winds and rain on Saturday morning.Sharen Rooks, a conference volunteer and a member of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist, found many reasons to celebrate as people of different backgrounds came together in a shared act of faith. Morning Chapel was among the African-American churches partnering with local white churches in the revival effort, and the bond already has produced interesting results.“There are changes taking place because of Trinity Baptist and Morning Chapel,” said Rooks, as she, Redemption 2009 event co-chair Vicki Reed and Linda Stephens of Central Church completed final preparations on Friday. “I think this is going to stick. You can see it now and the event hasn’t even taken place,” said Rooks, a minister’s wife and author of “What Happens When God Moves.”The revival comes at the end of the story, however. This tale unfolds 4 ½ years ago when Ellen Olford and husband, David, of Memphis met Priscilla and Jerry Shirer of Dallas. Shortly thereafter, Ellen, who is white, shared her vision – her burden – with Priscilla, an African American who is an internationally-known speaker, author and the daughter of well-known minister Dr. Tony Evans.The multiracial, multigenerational relationship established a foundational guideline for the Redemption movement: prayer partners not only from different churches but from different races and cultural groups.“Four and a half years ago, I said to Priscilla, ‘Would you be my friend? Would you be my prayer partner?’” Olford recounted at Saturday’s gathering.Olford, chair of Redemption 2009 and a member of Central Church, said, “Memphis is a great city with great people and great churches – a town that needs Jesus (to remove) racism and other-isms that separate us.”Prayer partners are encouraged to meet weekly to pray by phone together and once a month in person.The second step is participation in upcoming prayer meetings that will be taking place in the Memphis area, where area coordinators have been assigned in Orange Mound, Whitehaven, Uptown, Midtown, Hickory Hill, East Memphis and Frayser as well as Bartlett, Collierville, Cordova, Germantown, Southeast Shelby County, Southaven, Miss., and Marshall County, Miss.Finally, Olford is asking for more black-white church partnerships, like those shared by Trinity Baptist and Morning Chapel, Bellevue Baptist and Impact Ministries, and Central Church and Mt. Moriah East Baptist, just to name a few.A Rainbow of FaithsAccording to the Web site (www.redemption2009.com), movement leaders, volunteers and participants are “Godly women with hearts burning to see evangelical Christians of different races unite to further God’s kingdom (who) have been dreaming and praying and planning …to see revival sweep the Mid-South…. Churches will come together for Redemption 2009 to create a catalyst for unity and reconciliation among sisters in Christ, spanning generations, evangelical backgrounds, neighborhoods, cultures and races.”The unity among sisters was evident as dozens of women stopped by the Marriott Hotel’s Magnolia Grille, across the street from the convention center, to eat before for the conference. Black women and white women sat together at tables, engaged in both light and meaningful conversations.Young women from Fellowship Memphis were among restaurant-goers. Group leader Suzanne Presley said 100 members of the multicultural church were attending the revival and they were expecting a “word from the Lord.”“We’ve just been praying for it,” said Ariyana Rimson.RevivalIn addition to first-rate expository teaching, Redemption 2009 showcased contemporary and hard-core gospel music. Priscilla Shirer’s brother, recording artist Anthony Evans and his band performed contemporary gospel, such as “You Are Good,” “Everlasting God,” and “Mighty to Save.”Grammy-nominated gospel vocalist Beverly Crawford brought the hard-core gospel with “If the Lord Never Does Anything Else” and other songs.Ephie Johnson directed the Unity Choir, a city-wide group from 30 churches that performed and backed up Crawford and Evans. A member of Hope Presbyterian and director of Neighborhood Christian Centers, Johnson said the choir has 115 members.Her participation extends beyond the choir , however, as she has several prayer partners, including Kelly Johnson, executive director of Two by Two Ministry. who is 40 and Ephie’s same age; Lucy Long, a 50-something and Carlee Pettis, 70. “They influence me in my walk with Christ,” said Johnson.For her part, the Unity choir director is well ready for a Memphis revival. “This is an integral moment. People are ready to rise up and be a city of pride, leadership and unity.”“My goal is to encourage and help Memphis sing again,” said Johnson, who is the daughter of JoeAnn Ballard and has been directing choirs since age 13.“In some ways, we lost our song.”

House Passes Federal Retirement Reform BillThe House on April 1 passed H.R.1804, the Federal Retirement Reform Act of 2009, which, among other things, would allow employees enrolled in the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) to count unused sickleave in the calculation of their retirement annuities.Currently, FERS employees often try to use up sick leave immediately prior to retirement because there is no incentive for them to save it up. Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) employees already receive credit for unused sick leave.The bill also contains a provision to allow FERS employees who leave the federal government to redeposit annuityfunds if they return to federal service. Currently, those employees either may cash out their annuity or roll it into a private account.But if they return to federal employment, they are not allowed to redeposit those funds—andthey lose credit for prior years for service for the purpose of determining annuity benefits.The bill lets returning FERS employees reinvest their full federal retirement annuity without losing credit for previous years of service.“We are encouraged that this bill not only provides FERS employees with a credit for unused sick leave, but thatit also places these employees on par with their CSRS counterparts,” said Federal Managers Association NationalPresident Darryl Perkinson. “This is a commonsense bill strengthening the civil service retirement system and I urge swift action by the Senate.”H.R. 1804 also contains provisions affecting the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). Under the bill, all new federal employees would be enrolled in the TSP automatically when they begin employment. Additionally, the bill also establishes within the TSP a Roth IRA option for federal employees. National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) President Margaret L. Baptiste praised the efforts of key lawmakers—including Reps. James Moran, D-Va., Edolphus Towns, D-N.Y., chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., chairman of the Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce—for their work on the FERS sick leave issue and other aspects of the bill. Baptiste also lauded the automatic TSP enrollment initiative, which she said will boost the percentage of feds who make use of the TSP to ensure they are better prepared their retirement. When 2009 started I had some goals in mind and to date I'm right on track.Quarter 1 - Jan, Feb, Mar1st - Wanted to get my clientele up and that has been done through various advertising outlets on the www. - Done2nd - Buy a new car w/ good down payment - DoneQuarter 2....I would like to get certified in hair fusion as well as Micolink extensions. I might dabble into lace front application too.Finish my online hair course.Get a domain name as well as build a strong websiteI'll Let you know how it goes.
