FYI Facebook Giveaways (Please Read)

Hey all, I just read this post today about the rules surrounding facebook promotions and thought I'd share: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/facebook-promotions-what-you-need-to-know/

Apparently, it's against facebook rules to host a contest or giveaway without using a "facebook app" to do so. I've not done this, if you have you might want to rethink it. Facebook is too big a market to have your account deleted.

I've been meaning to write a post on Social Media Etiquette for a while now because it seems like some people still don't get it or flat out don't know how to act. Just because we are 'socializing' online, does not give you the right to have your way with me... (you know what I mean!)

Believe me when I say, I have a laundry list of Social Media Do's and Don'ts but the ones I will share with you today, are the ones that really need to be addressed.

5 Social Media Etiquette Tips

Do Not Friend Me to Spam Me. This happens most often on Facebook. I’m very picky when it comes to the ‘friends’ I accept, however, once in a while a Clever Claire charms her way through.

You’ve met her (or him…I don’t discriminate) before. Her wall and friend list is set to private, her bio is pretty basic and lacks any real detail and though you don’t have much in common, you give her the benefit of the doubt because she adds a message along with her friend request telling you how much she admires what you do.

Once you hit the ‘accept’ button, BOOM…her wall is visible and you’ve noticed she’s added hundreds of people and has yet to share 1 wall post. If you don’t delete her right then, she begins to invite you to every ridiculous event and amazing opportunity under the sun.

Do Not Use My Wall as Ad Space. Yet another sleazy Facebook tactic that drives me up the wall (no pun intended!) It’s one thing when we have a relationship and you respectfully ask me beforehand if you can post something business related to my wall, but when you come to my page, greet me by name and post your ad about something I have NO interest in…it will get removed.

The worst part is going to their wall to see how you even know the person and find out they posted the same Ad on 50 other profiles, um…DELETE!

Give Credit Where Credit is Due. This is just a matter of simply respecting the knowledge and skills of others. If you come across a blog post, status update or any meaningful content and you want to share it with others, always reference and link to the person who originally posted it.

We all work hard at what we do and we need to have a “pay it forward” mentality, especially in the social media arena.

Selflessly Promote Others. This ties in with giving credit where credit is due. Social media extends to us the ability to connect with some wonderful people in all types of industries. We are able to almost effortlessly, meet and share with other business owners and entrepreneurs across the world.

So, go out of your way to willingly promote other people, their business and services with your network and circle of influence.

Please Do Not Beg Me to Join. I may be supermom to my children but by no means am I superwoman to the world; I cannot be everywhere all the time (even though it may seem like I am at times!)

I have no problem being invited to take a look at a group, new social community or even chatting about a business venture but, there is no way I can join every offer presented to me.

So if after a few weeks I have not jumped on board, please do not continue emailing or blowing up my inbox begging for me to ‘just check it out’ or see ‘what’s new’.

Think about it, if someone was interested in what you were offering, they will find a way to contact you or give you the thumbs up to contact them again…stop begging, it’s not a good look!

Now that my little social media etiquette rant is done, let me know what some of your tips are. Share your feedback!

How to Get Started Blogging for Business

By now I'm pretty sure you know how valuable blogging is as a way to market your business. Not only is it an extremely low-cost way to spread the word but it’s a quick way to begin to develop brand awareness. Let's face it, regular websites are still a great tool for business but not nearly as effective as having a blog.

The question for new bloggers however is always the same: How Do I Get Started Blogging for My Business?

Here are a few tips to help you get started:

  • Choose a topic. Take some time to really think about what the main focus of your blog will be. Will your blog be designed for a specific niche market, will you be sharing special tips and advice, is it for product reviews or do you plan to keep readers informed on specific service and product specials? Whatever it may be, keep your blog aligned with your original topic of interest. Readers can become easily disinterested if your blog is supposed to be about raising puppies but most of your posts are about your latest greatest recipe or your two silly kids.
  • Generate traffic. When you first start a blog, it can be a bit challenging trying to get visitors to actually come to your site to read it. The quickest way to start the process (notice I said start), is to get your blog connected to a few blogger communities such as; BlogCatalog, NetworkedBlogs and MyBlogLog. These sites have good rankings in Goggle which means your blog will be indexed in the search engines allowing more people to find you.

  • Spread the word. Here comes the fun! This is the part where you get to spend time and effort promoting your blog on your social networking sites, forums and groups. No spamming allowed – you want to bring traffic to your site not drive it away. If utilized correctly, twitter can be one of your best, if not the best, tool in bringing traffic to your site quickly. In fact, most of my blog visits come from the tweets I share with my followers announcing a new post. If your business doesn’t have a Facebook Fan Page, online community or twitter – get them. Make it easy for people to find you and for you to stay connected.

  • Finally, be consistent. I cannot express it enough. Building a blog following is the same as building your business. It takes time, time and more time. Be disciplined and consistent with the time you spend posting and marketing your blog. If you got one reader from twitter, keep tweeting. Continue to do what works and have patience. If your blog has created interest for your niche and you are providing the quality content they want, they will come.

10744061866?profile=originalOver the years, I have had the privilege of consulting many first time business owners. One of the most common concerns that comes up is the fear of owing taxes on the money they earn. So many cash based business owners avoid taxes altogether. If you're considering ignoring taxes this year, here are five reasons to file a return for your business.

1. Retirement Savings

In order to save for retirement you must know how much money you're making in business. This not only requires good money management but tax strategies, as well. A component of funding your retirement includes credits to your social security account. When you're self-employed, the payments that you make for Self-Employment tax are reported when you file your tax return. No return, no credit.

2. Business Opportunities

There are instances where tax returns are a requirement to business growth. If you are considering applying for certain business certifications, loans, or grants, for example, you will need proof of running a legitimate company. Certifications can open doors of opportunity to larger contracts and more income. However, one requirement of most applications is a filed income tax return.

3. Refundable Credits

A common tax myth that business owners have involves reporting zero income or net losses. However, you may be surprised at the tax benefits even when there is little or no profit to report. The Earned Income Credit, for example, is a refundable credit that can put between $457 to $5,666 in your pocket. If you qualify, the refund is extra money that you can use to grow your business or take a much-needed vacation. The choice is up to you.

4. Easy to Do

There are many options that make it convenient to file a tax return. Some choices include Do-It-Yourself tax software, electronic filing, and paid tax preparers who will prepare the return for you. Each of these are designed to take you through the process with ease.

5. Your Responsibility

Aside from the benefits above, another important reason to file is tax compliance. As a person earning taxable income you are responsible for filing a timely income tax return each year. Failure to do so can lead to late filing fines, penalties, and possible time in prison.

Now that you know why you should file, visit http://www.tbsusa.com and download my free audio to learn how to slash taxes and keep more of the money you make in business.

So I went to an event this weekend, and had a blessed time! It was so good that afterwards, I was ready to purchase some merchandise. Fortunately, I was first in line. Unfortunately, I didn't have small bills and they didn't take check. BUT they did take debit card. So I gave them my card to run, and it took FOREVER! They were using an Apple computer, but whatever program it was, it was not working fast enough. The line of 1 person grew to 6 in a matter of minutes. I even ended up having to enter my information myself! With all that said, all I could think about was if that was a different Apple product, the iPad, they wouldn't have this problem. And it's so true. The iPad has so many benefits for an entrepeneur. Whether you need to take credit cards, keep customer information, or communicate with employess in other states or countries (with the new iPad2), the iPad is for you. Today I'm just going to share brief information about the apps, accessories and secrets about the iPad I enjoy. One of the great things about the iPad is that you can download applications or apps to it, and make it do pretty much anything you want :0. There is an excellent app for people that take credit cards called Square. Square allows business owners to accept credit cards and it's FREE. All you have to do is download the app and then sign up for an account and BOOM. 3 days later, they send you a small card reader that connects to your iPad! It's wonderful. And definitely would've benefitted the merchants at the event :)Another app that's great for keeping up with customer information Bento. Not only can does it store customer information like phone numbers and order history, but it keeps you organized as well. You can manage your personal contacts and keep a schedule, you can also create "To-do" lists. It's a great application to keep you on track.Oh don't worry, if you're a writer or trying to pitch some ideas for some dinero, or need flyers for you there's an app for you too. Pages allows you to create sales presentations and flyers for any and all of your business needs.  And alongside Pages you need Keynote which helps create powerpoint presentations. Both apps go hand-in-hand. Although there's a minimal fee for each, it's definitely worth it.One accessory you might enjoy are the bluetooth keyboard, which comes in handy for those big projects that have a lot of typing. Also a cool accessory is the camera connection kit which allows you to upload pictures from your camera onto your iPad. One thing I have discovered about the iPad and love is that if you click the "home" button twice, you can see all of the windows you're working with and go back and forth. Another cool feature is that you can create a passcode to get into your iPad. Makes it kind of personal so only you can get in it!Now, to find out about all the other cool features the iPad offers, you have to get one! The new iPad2 has just come out and the prices range from $499-$829. So consider the iPad for all your business needs. It is definitely worth it's purchase.www.garrisonprosperitysolutions.com

Honestly Share.....

I have looked at the state of the economy and how people really are; I"m a saint..I don't detour from it. When you get me you get all of me. This includes my faults, my mishaps, my weaknesses, my successes, my everything. I really must say that that you get all of me. The problem with this is that people will use me because of it. Let me say this sharing is caring and when I care and get used, God's got my back.

sharing-is-caring-women-s-penny-tee_design.png

As an entrepreneur, I am really excited to share what I know, what I don't know, my failures and my friends. I am willing to give you an opportunity to grow with me. What I see, clearly, is that people want money fast and well fast money doesn't get you anywhere. My goal is to continue to be me and honestly share. Why? There is a place in hell for liars and I"m not going there. Keep up with me..more to come.....

How to identify and overcome negative or limiting beliefs?

In my interaction with women I find that many are struggling with limiting and/or negative beliefs. And there are some who are in denial and feel that they don’t have any limiting beliefs. Entertaining limiting beliefs will only sabotage your empowering success and I am out to help you finally be free of the control of
limiting belief. My passion is empowering women and this is one area that blocks many from realizing their desires.

Read what one of my clients stated about identifying a limiting belief……

Pay attention to part B of her testimonial

One of my success statements was related to me exercising on a regular basis. While I am not grossly overweight, I was carrying more weight than my small frame could handle. I knew this because my knees started to hurt constantly. After emailing Robin my success statements, I committed to it. In addition to exercising I actually went a step further and did some clean up in my diet. I can report today that I have lost 5 pounds to date. I feel better and my knees don’t hurt nearly as much.

I also sent in my limiting belief. At first I did not feel as if I had one but through prayer I found that I did. And it was a big one! I have proceeded with my action steps and praise God, He has confirmed what I needed confirmation of. I’m still doing both action steps and I know these will keep me moving forward toward success. I would never have identified this had Robin not challenged us with this. Thank you Robin!”

One of the first steps to identifying your limiting or negative beliefs is awareness.

You have belief systems that were formed early on in your life. Think about some of the things that come up for you when embarking on a new journey or undertaking a new task.

Do you start off with a bang only to be tripped up by negative chatter or negative/limiting beliefs?

Overcoming your limiting beliefs entails becoming aware, identifying the belief and reprogramming. And please know this…. it didn’t happen overnight so the reprogramming is not going to happen overnight. It’s a process.

What are your beliefs?

What are your thoughts about money?

Taking Those First Steps

steps.jpg?w=182&h=242In my last blog post I talked about coming to the realization that I was living my Plan B and taking steps to Live My Plan A. Once I started taking the necessary steps to Live My Plan A with a single-minded focus, every other aspect of my life vastly improved. I’m so much more content as a result of getting back on track to go after my dream.

I wake up feeling absolutely energized, even though I get less sleep because I have more late nights working on my business plan, my website, perfecting my services and client deliverables, and best of all, working with clients. But it is so worth it! It is this feeling that feeds my passion for working with clients: I want my clients to walk away from their work with me understanding what their Plan A dream is, or getting back in touch with their Plan A dream after having put it on hold. And I want them to have a clear map of the steps they need to take to realize their Plan A dream.

What are your thoughts on your own Plan A? Do you know what your burning desire is or do you need help getting clear on what you really want to do? Are you on track with your Plan A? Or do you find yourself having veered off course, putting your energy into your backup plan and wondering “When will I ever get back to my dream?”

Share your thoughts and comments here. Let’s start a Plan A community, an ongoing conversation. I invite you to stop by this blog often, to see what others have to say and to read my blog posts about Living Your Plan A.

Money, Money, Money ! Today we are going to talk about cost cutting do's & don'ts and when enough is enough. I know I have previously said that you can achieve many ideas on any budget, but let's be realistic.
If you want steak but can only afford Ramen noodles, then something has gotta give! It's not always about how much money you have it's about what ways can stretch your dollar. When you begin to plan your event you must decide what is important to you. Some areas can be cut or eliminated all together to achieve your desired results. You must decide how you want your event to appear, I will say that again, you MUST decide how you want you event to appear. It's okay to have a backyard BBQ if that is what you want, but you do not want your elegant wedding to come off looking like a backyard BBQ...get it?
I will discuss a few ways to cut costs...think about this...you want STEAK but you can only afford RAMEN NOODLES, so what do you do? Well this one is easy....you can have steak but you just won't be able to feed as many people, so the first piece of advice I offer is to trim your guest list. Do you really need 300 of your closet friends? If you insist on having 300 people you have a choice to make...you can serve Ramen Noodles or serve 300 people a very very very small toothpick sized portion of steak. What is more important to you?
Another area where many people attempt to cut costs is the family and friend "hook-up", now this is tricky. Most people have good intentions when they offer to provide a good or service for you, but what YOU the planner must consider is that most times you get what you pay for. FREE is FREE , are you willing to accept the level of service that your cousin will provide just because it is free? I know that we all have people in our lives that can do something really well and that will do it for you at a low cost, but what I advise in this situation is that you still treat it somewhat like a business transaction. You have to be clear on what you are looking for and what you expect, and the provider has to be clear about what they can provide.
I'm a huge advocate of Do It Yourself, but this only works if you know what you are doing! Before you take on any tasks, learn how to do it! Practice, study and then try it out. You don't want to just assume you can make a wedding cake because it seems easy enough. There are plenty of place you can go to learn how to do things that will save you money. The internet is a valuable tool...but again I say beware...try it out before the day of your event.
I will share more on this topic later, but for today I leave you with this.. when you plan your event be REALISTIC about your WANTS and your FINANCES and your RESOURCES, it's easier to plan when you know exactly what you have available to utilize.
