This past weekend, I had a great phone conversation with a fellow social media sista / aspiring entrepreneur. Of the many things we talked about as two women in Black Business, the big topic was ‘Can black business women work together?’ The two of us cited several instances where we felt alone and/or longing to be connected to a group bigger than ourselves. These feelings often lead to the thoughts like, “Maybe, it’s me. Maybe, they just don’t like me.”
Perhaps right now, you are feeling that you’re the only one in your situation and everybody else is in this GREAT group you can’t seem to get into. I’m here to tell you a few things:
1. You are not alone. At times it may seem like everybody is cruising while your boat is sinking, but that’s not true. We are all running a personal race. The best kept secret of most successful entrepreneurs is that they keep running with a smile on their face, while others throw in the towel. Whatever you are doing in your business, stay consistent and keep going.
2. Do you have a fan page? For some reason, people have this imaginary theory that they can just put up a webpage and people will buy. The only reason I can afford to work at home, is because I work hard at being a useful resource to others. If people don’t know you or trust you, they won’t buy from you. What are you doing to build your list of fans and followers online?
3. Do you have proof? Before I even start to share how you can increase your sales, think about the ones you’ve already got. Do you have proof people want what you are selling or are you the only buyer on your list? Proof of interest is vital to understanding if you’ve got a profitable business and also it’s useful when trying to convince others why they should buy from you. Remember: No proof… no profit.
As always, I found my phone conversation with a fellow Business Sista, was helpful to the both of us. She was able to ask me questions about working the web and I was able to get a more in depth understanding of the needs of new Entrepreneurs Online. I’ve been considering devoting two days per week to doing phone consultations for Women Entrepreneurs? Let me know if you would have this useful by leaving me a response / comment.
