This is a question that people of all ages ask themselves. It is a question that I had to ask myself as well. It is one of the hardest questions to answer, especially with people that you truly consider a friend. The question that you have to ask yourself is are they being a friend to you?A true friend is someone who adds to your life. They are to be there to encourage your dreams, help you through your failures, and tell you when you're wrong. They should love you unconditionally. To continue to read this blog please click the following link: http://iambeingled.blogspot.com

How important is your destiny?

Are you living your life in constant search of something? Are you having trouble figuring out what that something is? I have come to know that what we are in constant search of is our destiny. What have you been placed here on Earth during this season to do? For everyone it is something different and though everyone's destiny is different it is no better than the next person. Someone's destiny might be to give you the smile that you needed to inspire you to move forward. Or it might be the friend that keeps the person that is meant to change the world motivated. No matter what it is your destiny is important and necessary. To continue reading this blog please click the following link: http://iambeingled.blogspot.com

Who do you surround yourself with?

All of us have people we consider friends and some friends we even consider family. The question we need to ask ourselves is "Who are we surrounding ourselves with?"As much as I consider myself my own person, I would be lying if I said my family and even my friends didn't influence my decisions in one way or another. My closest friend even influences how I think or view certain situations. Most of the time there's nothing wrong with that, we all need relationships to lead a fulfilling life. However, our number one relationship needs to with God. Having a relationship with Him helps to keep everything else in life in perspective. To continue reading this blog please click the following link: http://iambeingled.blogspot.com

Hey again everyone,It’s your girl QP here to talk to you about Secret #4: Bootleg Publishers exist, how to tell the difference! As a member of SPAWN (Small Publishers, Artists, Writers Network) my boss gets monthly alerts on publishing companies going out of business, or just doing unethical things and are being sued. Every month there seems to be at least 6 publishers going out of business because of complaints from writers who have sent their manuscripts, sent money to be published, that sort of crazy thing. So, that has lead me to disclose this secret which sadly but not surprisingly, most writers don’t know: everything with publisher at the end of it does not make it a publisher. Here’s how you tell:Clue #1: If they ask for money when sending your manuscript they are bootleg. A legitimate publisher won’t and doesn’t need to be paid just to read your story.Clue #2: If they advertise in the back of a magazine, they are bootleg.Clue #3: If they request $3.00 for postage, shipping and handling for a response to your manuscript, they are bootleg.Clue #4: If they aren’t a member of any professional publishing organizations such as SPAWN, SPANNET, or PMA to name a few, they are bootleg.Clue #5: If they don’t have a website, they are bootleg.Clue #6: If they have email that looks like this: publisher@yahoo.com, publisher@gmail.com, publisher@aol.com, they are bootleg. Legitimate publishing compannies have company branded email:contact@zlspublishing.com.Clue #7: If you are presented with a 5 page publishing contract, they are bootlegged. The average publishing contract is at a minimum 10 pages long.Clue #8: If your book cover looks like the outside of a cereal box, they are bootleg.Clue #9: If you have to pay for all your books, including the “free ones”, they are bootleg.Clue #10: If you are paid in royalties of IOU’s, they are bootleg.Clue #11: If anytime you call the phone number for them and all you ever get is an answering machine or service, they are bootleg.Clue #12: If the only software they have to develop your manuscript into a book is MS word, they are bootleg. Legitimate publishers have top of the line publishing software. My boss has ADOBE CS3, which is the latest in publishing software.Clue #13: If you can’t find them on myspace, facebook, or gather, they are bootleg. Legitimate publishers understand the need and use for consumers to find them on all outlets. My boss in on all three and even SImon and Schuster is on Gather. When deciding to send out your manuscript to a publishing company, make sure you contact them first, talk to someone, ask if they have a website, a myspace page, a gather page, a facebook page, ask for their mailing address, office address, company email address, verify no money needs to be sent in order to hear a response or when you are sending your manuscript.Clue #14: If when you call them up, asking for these things and they are reluctant to give it to you, they are bootleg.Writer BEWARE!Until Publishing Secret #5QP Signing Out!

Welcome back,This week’s secret is a continuation from last week’s silly conversation with the caller. (If you need a recap, go to Secret #1)Writers have this crazy idea that they’ve written a book that deserves to be published. No! You’ve written a manuscript, a manuscript of a book hopefully to be published! In the publishing industry, contrary to popular belief they do not consider your book, a book until it is published! That thing you call a book is called a manuscript! At weekly meetings it’s Manuscript #205 or Manuscript BOW or whatever! In the publishing industry, a book is considered final. What you have written is not! It has yet to go through the final editing phase, if any editing at all! It has yet to have a cover designed for it; the book size decided; how it will be marketed, or who will print it. And we are missing the all important task of deciding who will publish it.My boss hates when people tell her they’ve written a book and when she asks who wrote it or where can she get it because it sounds good, they reply by telling her they wrote it, it’s not yet in stores, and that they are looking for a publisher. She always responds, “So, you’ve written a manuscript?” Not knowing what she’s talking about, they look at her funny eyed.So what do you do?Change your language, but more importantly, change your way of thinking!Remember, you have 7 seconds to make an impression. When you approach a publisher either in person or via writing, approach as follows:“I’ve written a potential book”“I’ve got a book idea, I’d love to pitch to you”“I’ve written a manuscript about xyz”Let’s repeat this again: You have 7 seconds to make a good impression. Approaching your potential boss correctly determines your next step career wise. it is the same for approaching a publisher. Remember, they get approached 500 times a day, mainly by clueless writers. Approaching them correctly is the difference between them actually taking your manuscript to read it or politely (and even in some cases) unpolitely, saying ”Thank you, but no thank you!”Let’s recap: Your book is not a book until it is published! We all know that’s your baby, but just like welfare doesn’t consider your baby a baby until it is born, the publishing industry doesn’t consider your book a book until it is published!Sounds harsh! I know, but I told you that the truth was going to hurt!Until Secret #3QP Signing Out!

BUSINESS BANKING & CREDIT 101

Provided By: Contact Specialist Group (CSGEAST.COM) “Providing Solutions To Build Better Businesses.”One of the most fundamental aspects of Business Operations and Management is establishing a Business/Corporate Banking Account. The process of setting up a Business/Corporate Bank Account is a vital preliminary step in building a solid foundation for your business. However, despite the relative simplicity and importance of opening a Business/Corporate Account, at CSG we notice that many business owners fail to take that step. Not having a Business/Corporate Banking Account (separate from your personal account) can have immediate and long term adverse consequences for your business. Commingling Funds from your Personal Banking Account(s) with the funds from your Corporation, LLC, Non- Profit Organization, or LLP is a violation of the law governing these business entities and could result in a Court dissolving your business. The legal term for this process is called Piercing The Corporate Veil.Starting A Business/Corporate Banking Account is a simply process:1. Obtain A Tax Identification Number/Employer Identification Number (EIN):A Tax Identification Number or Employee Identification Number (EIN) is often referred to as a business’ Social Security Number. The reason for this comparison is because like an individual’s Social Security Number, a Tax Identification Number/EIN is a unique nine digit number used for identification, to apply for credit, open a bank account, and file taxes. The IRS provides four (4) simple ways to obtain a Tax Identification Number/EIN:A. VIA TELEPHONE1. Visit http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss4.pdf and obtain a REQUEST FOR TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION FORM (SS-4 Form).2. Complete the form.3. Call 1-800-829-4933, the office hours are Monday to Friday from 7:00 am until 10:00pm.4. The IRS Representative will take the information over the phone and provide you with a Tax Identification Number/EIN at the end of the call.B. VIA INTERNET1. Visit the IRS Website at https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/index.jsp2. Complete the application process.3. The Tax Identification Number/EIN is issued immediately.C. VIA FACSIMILE1. Visit http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss4.pdf and obtain an SS-4 Form.2. Complete the form.3. Visit http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html to obtain the fax number for your local IRS Office.4. Be sure to include your fax number so that the IRS can fax your Tax Identification Number/EIN back to you.5. This process will typically take up to four (4) business days.D. VIA MAIL1. Visit http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss4.pdf and obtain an SS-4 Form.2. Complete the form.3. Visit http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html to obtain the address for your local IRS Office.4. This process will typically take up to four (4) weeks.2. Obtain a copy of your Business License or Business Filing Receipt.a. You can obtain your Business License from the Business Licensing Department for the City in which you live.b. Filing Receipts are issued by the Secretary of State, Division of Corporations, or the governmental agency in your State that is responsible for approving the filing of Corporations, LLCs, LLPs, and Non-Profit Organizations.3. Contact a Banking Representative in the New Business Accounts Department of your bank.a. Make an appointment to visit and start your Business/Corporate Account.b. Be sure to bring your Tax Identification Number/EIN and your Business License or Filing Receipt.c. Ask the Banking Representative if you need any additional documents. Some banks may require a copy of your Corporate Bylaws, Operating Agreement, or a list of all the Partners in your business. We recently interviewed the Assistant Vice-President for Small Business Banking for JPMorgan Chase for our new book, From Servant To Master: An Entrepreneurs Guide to Obtaining Wealth and Independence. This is an excerpt from the interview:CSGEAST.COM: Do Corporate/Business Accounts provide a feature similar to the Overdraft Protection that is available for Personal Checking Accounts?VP, CHASE BANK: Business/Corporate Accounts have an Overdraft Protection component. However, that feature is not part of the basic account and is based upon credit approval.CSGEAST.COM: Are there various levels of accounts (Gold/Platinum/Premium) within the structure of Corporate/Business Accounts?VP, CHASE BANK: Yes. The level that a business receives is based upon several factors which include: (1) The type of business, (2) The anticipated volume of activity that a business will conduct (check writing, number of transactions, and business needs), and (3) the Average Daily Balance (ADB) that a business maintains is also a major factor.CSGEAST.COM: What are the daily balances that distinguish a Basic Business Account from a Premium or Platinum Account?VP, CHASE BANK: A Premiere Account requires an Average Daily Balance of $25,000.00 and a Platinum Account requires an Average Daily Balance of $75,000.00.CSGEAST.COM: Are there penalties if a business fails to maintain those Average Daily Balances?VP, CHASE BANK: Yes, there are Monthly Fees that are incurred if a business fails to maintain the required Average Daily Balance. However, those balances are not required for all accounts. We have accounts for new and small business that may only require a Daily Average Balance of $200.00. We work with our clients to establish an account that works best for them at their current level of business.Clients can also change the type of account that they have at anytime to avoid Monthly Fees.CSGEAST.COM: How long does it take after the business owner has provided you with the Tax Identification Number/EIN and the Business License, Filing Receipt, or Business Certificate before the account is open and they can began to make transactions?VP, CHASE BANK: The account is open and ready for transactions immediately. In fact, the rules regarding opening an account at Chase have recently been updated. A business owner is no longer required to have a Business License, Filing Receipt, or Business Certificate at the time they open the account. The business owner only needs to have their Tax Identification Number/EIN.The only exception to this rule is if you have formed a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) or Non-Profit Organization 501(c) (3). In the case of an LLP, we require the list of the Partners and the different signers for the account. For a Non-Profit Organization claiming Federal Tax Exemption we require the Certificate of Exemption which is issued by the Internal Revenue Service.CSGEAST.COM: Are there supplemental Credit Cards and Lines of Credit that are available with Corporate/Business Accounts?VP, CHASE BANK: Yes. These additional services are available and are based upon the client’s credit approval. If the client qualifies these additional funds are made available to the client immediately.CSGEAST.COM: Please explain what “qualifications” an individual business owner would need to qualify for the additional Credit Cards and Lines of Credit?VP, CHASE BANK: Typically, if the client is serving as a Personal Guarantor for the business, they will need a credit rating of 780 or above.CSGEAST.COM: Many Small Business Owners are concerned about cash-flow. Cash-flow concerns are directly affected by holds that may be placed on checks and other funds. Are there products that Chase offers to businesses to assist in expediting the processing of checks and payments from clients?VP, CHASE BANK: Yes, we offer a Business Management Account which is designed with those small business concerns in mind. We provide the business owner with a portable check processing machine and a credit card processing terminal for their office. The business owner can scan their client’s checks and the funds are deposited into their account instantly.CSGEAST.COM: What are some of the various business loans that are available to new and small business at Chase?VP, CHASE BANK: If the business has been in existence for less than two (2) years we can assist the business with securing a loan through the Small Business Association (SBA). If the business is older than two (2) years Chase will make the loan.CSGEAST.COM: Do these loans require that the business owner sign on as a Personal Guarantor?VP, CHASE BANK: Yes, in most cases.CSGEAST.COM: Are businesses required to produce collateral (equipment, property, etc.) in order to secure a loan from Chase?VP, CHASE BANK: It depends on the business and the amount of the loan. If the business is seeking a loan in excess of $100,000.00 then typically some from of collateral is requested. For loans under $100,000.00, meeting the credit qualifications is typically sufficient.CSGEEAST.COM: What are the processing times to apply and receive an answer for loan approval?VP, CHASE BANK: For businesses that are older then two (2) years that are applying for a loan from Chase, we can have an answer within 24 to 48 hours after the business’ application is completed.CSGEAST.COM: What are some of the common mistakes that you notice entrepreneurs and small business owners making in regards to banking?VP, CHASE BANK: I notice that many business owners commingle funds. They combine the money from their personal accounts with their business accounts. This is a major mistake. Clients should follow the steps that we have discussed and establish a separate business account. Also, clients should be careful about the manner in which they manage their accounts. That means limiting the number of NSFs.This is extremely important within the first two years when you are working to establish the company’s credit rating so that the company can begin to apply for credit on its own without a Personal Guarantor.CSGEAST.COM: Given the current state of the economy, have you notices a trend with banks and lenders becoming more stringent as it pertains to loan requirements?VP, CHASE BANK: Yes, we are notices that the requirements placed on credit scores and Debt-to-Income-requirements are becoming more stringent.CSGEAST.COM: Thank you for the valuable insight.VP, CHASE BANK: Sure. We look forward to helping you clients.© 2008 Contract Specialist Group. All Rights Reserved. CSGEAST. COM

Your brand is your most valuable asset. Your brand is your reputation, what your organization stands for and the perception of your business from the rest of the world.Branding is a business decision, whether you realize it or not. In a thought, branding is the management of perception. How do we manage this perception? This perception is managed by identifiers, attributes and associations. Successful management is a mixture of what we want working in conjunction with the perception of our customers. How do you want people to remember you and your business? We have all heard “She does great work but…” We don’t want a “BUT” in our brand. Instead we want individuals to share that she is very dedicated to her clients AND she always delivers. For example, if you are an event consultant and want potential clients to believe your organization is elegant, you must demonstrate elegance in all you do.As you develop your brand, remember perception is not only about what is read, but also what is heard and seen. Branding includes everything from your business name, logo and tag line to your elevator pitch, voice mail message and business cards. To learn more about developing consistency in your brand please contact us at coach@aliveincorporated.com.

Monday - Monday...................

It's a new day. This is the day that begins a new week of goals. My goal is to gain 3 new clients. A challenge that I am ready to meet head on - I know that this is no easy feat. The target list is out and I am preparing to make the necessary calls and make it happen. In addition, I have some research - to further look into another great idea I have. Research is essential for me in making some decisions although there are those times when I work with my intuitive/spiritual guide. My spiritual guide is not by going to a specialist who can guide me through the use of cards or with closed eyes and candles. My spiritual guide is my own inner voice/conversational moments where thoughts and ideas run rampant through my mind guiding me to fulfill my purpose.I listen to my thoughts, I flush through the ideas and do my own pros and cons of how I can make it work. I have learned not to say too much to others as they like to give the worst case scenario in their own efforts to protect me from failure. However, my focus is on success. Therefore, I am going to do what I do best and make it happen. In addition, I am scheduled to speak at a Public Hearing to address the legislators on Access to Health Care, contact various clergy regarding addressing health concerns to their church members/attendees, review a new medical study, etc. It's Monday and I have a lot to do and by Friday I will have reached my goals.

In 2006, an idea to create an "all-star funk band to celebrate that Minneapolis Sound of the ’80s, made famous by Prince and producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis at Flyte Tyme Studios" evolved through manager/agent Jeff Taube’s mind and was told by industry know-it-alls that getting such prominent musicians together in one band would never happen. Determined, Jeff made some calls and in the mist of rehearsals with these chosen musicians, one climactic meeting would introduce the world to, THE TRUTH! This collective consist of former and current members of powerhouse bands that include: St. Paul Peterson (The Time, The Family) on bass, vocals, guitar & keyboards; Jellybean Johnson (The Time, The Family) on guitar; Odell on vocals & guitar (Mint Condition); Jerry Hubbard (The Time, Jesse Johnson) on bass, keyboards, guitar & vocals; Chance Howard (Prince, The Time) on bass guitar, bass synth & vocals; Kirk Johnson (Prince) on drums & vocals; Eric Leeds (Prince) on saxophones, keyboards & vocals; Donnie La Marca (Jonny Lang, Bobby Caldwell) keys; and Kip Blackshire on lead vocals (Prince). The Truth is simply that…"THE TRUTH!" Bringing us covers of classic funk from bands such as Cameo, the Ohio Players, James Brown and the Funkadelic infused with the jams from the bands they so infamously represent.Their fan base continues to grow like wildfire since debuting at Trocaderos in Minneapolis last month (February). They recently recorded their debut release live at the Kinetic Playground venue which will be released worldwide. In the meantime, be sure to catch a glimpse of them tearing through local venues throughout Minnesota! For more info, visit them on Myspace website at: www. myspace. com/thetruthmpls for upcoming performances and other related information.

Formed in NYC back in 1999, internationally acclaimed Naturally Seven (otherwise known as N7) are comprised of Roger "N..glish" Thomas (1st Baritone, Rap) Dwight Stewart (2nd Baritone), Rod Eldridge (1st Tenor, Scratching, Trumpet), Garfield Buckley (2nd Tenor, Harmonica), Jamal Reed (4th Tenor), Armand Hutton (Bass), and Warren Thomas (Percussion, Guitar, 3rd Tenor); and began as an acappella group evolving their style into what they call "Vocal Play"; a style of singing that differs from the traditional "acappella" sound of singing without instruments.

In 2003, Naturally 7 released its debut on SONY/BMl entitled ’What Is It?’. Their single, "Music is the Key" (a duet with German superstar Sarah Connor) went to 1 on the German charts. Following the success of ’What Is It?’ the band continued working and developing Vocal Play. Their discography includes releases such as ’Non Fiction’, ’Christmas—Its a Love Story’, ’Naturally 7 Live in ..Berlin’ and now they are "Ready II Fly", the title of the band’s latest cd. The first single "Feel It (In the Air Tonight)" topped the charts; and once again, Naturally 7 has found themselves at 1.

The members’ musical influences vary in the range which include Sting, Simon & Garfunkel, The Jacksons, James Brown, The Beatles, Sly and The Family Stone, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Céline Dion, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, James Ingram, Teddy Pendergrass, Wyclef Jean, Earth, Wind & Fire, Take 6, Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, Luther Vandross, Kim Burrell, Noelette Leader, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, The Winans family, Steely Dan, Michael McDonald and Moses Hogan.

Songwriting, soulful vocals and a knack for producing, Honey LaRochelle is the real deal and is most definitely SUPER DOPE! LaRochelle; who was one of the biggest influences in her life to her becoming the artist she is today. Being mentored by her mother, who sang with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Little Richard and Bon Jovi, one can only imagine how much Honey was prepared for what was to come in later years. In 2005, Honey relocated to Brooklyn, where she became one of the most sought after vocalists in town. Regularly performing with her 10-piece band at legendary music clubs such as Blue Note, Lenox Lounge, Canal Room, Village Underground as well as the smaller music venues like Ace of Clubs where SR’s Caprice had the pleasure of sharing the stage with. Members of her band include Ben Altman-Guitar; Jessie Singer-Bass; Greg Norwood-Drums; Winston Nelson & Sam Barsh-Keys; Nick Gianni-Baritone Saxophone; Freddy (Fuego) Gonzales-Trombone; Mario Maggio-Tenor Sax; and Damien Pacheco & Sam Roth-Trumpet and the lovely Amanda Brown, a noted vocalist in her own right, on background vocals.Honey’s view on music is that of a magical and spiritual journey through life. She believes that music should be powerful and her goal is to affect people through her art. With her bubbly personality, she carries a warm heart, a thoughtful mind, and a sense of humor that will have you laughing for days. She has 200 song recordings to her credit and lent her vocal skills to such reputable artists as Roberta Flack, The Brand New Heavies, Macy Gray, Maya Azucena and Donna Summer.
