For Staying Focus! May not be your thing….I know its now mine.
But there is Great News!
There is information on how to…READ On!
Okay so I love the idea that I can run my own home business, it is fantastic! I have the flexibility to set my own hours, freedom to make my own schedule and getting to be MY OWN BOSS. Unfortunately, sometimes staying focused isn’t my thing.
My mind wanders, tasks fall by the wayside, the kids are calling, procrastination sets in and suddenly, I’m “working” 12-hour days.
After reading around on the big ole internet I was able to find some tips for staying focused while running your own home business that I thought would be interesting to share.
1) Wake up earlier. Some of our best work is done in the morning, without the distractions of daily tasks. If you have children then getting up even just an hour before them can produce amazing results when you have a big task to tackle.
2) Turn off distractions, the radio, TV, including not checking your email. Set aside an hour of uninterrupted work time where you will only stay focused on the work at hand. Force yourself to not checking emails or social sites and concentrate on that one task even for just one hour. The results can be very rewarding.
3) Sometimes getting out of the house is good for focusing. Go for a walk or take your laptop down the street to a local coffee shop. Sometimes, getting out of your space is not only good for you mentally and physically, but it can also help re energize you and give you new ideas. Next time when you’re struggling over a problem or facing a creative block, try a change of scenery.
4) Plan your day. Get an agenda and set aside blocks of time for each task or project. Not only will this help you stay focused, it will also help you track exactly how much time you really are spending on each task.
5) Set boundaries. Let your family know that the office is out-of-bounds and let yourself know that the work day is done at 5pm. By setting rules and boundaries for yourself, you’re adding valuable structure into your business and preserving your separation of home and work.

The other day I read an article that discussed which of the Ten Commandments was the hardest for humans to keep. I believe that’s a valid question. I suspect that all of us violate two or three or more a day, no matter how saintly we might think ourselves to be.
Now, I’m not a religious scholar, nor am I an expert on the Bible. I don’t quote scripture as part of my general conversation, but I have experienced people who use scripture to validate their comments or behavior. I’ve also experienced those who use scripture to denounce the behavior or comments of those with whom they disagree.
Well I’m going to take some poetic license and tell you what I believe to be the simplest, yet most powerful commandment ever given: “Love ye one another, as I have loved you.” The Spirit asks no more of us than to Love each other. And yet this seems to be the one commandment we have the most problem living up to.
Our society has become so antagonistic that we seem to have more and more difficulty being civil to one another. We discriminate based on looks, gender, race, lifestyle, income, education, neighborhood, size, and a whole lot of other variables that make us unique as human beings. And there are those who use scripture to validate their discrimination. It would seem to me that the Spirit, who has created all of us, would never condone any one of us purposely being cruel to another human being. Again, the commandment says, “Love ye one another, as I have loved you.” And if you don’t believe the Spirit loves you, look out the window.
While I’m at it, I’m going to provide another scripture that I’ve heard the preacher use. To paraphrase, the Spirit asks, “How can you say you love me whom you’ve never seen, yet hate your brother who you see everyday?” There are those who continually proclaim that they “love the Lord”, yet they badmouth, ridicule, and purposely deceive their neighbors everyday.
Back in 1972, Marvin Gaye sang a song called “God is Love”. One of the lyrics goes as follows: “Don’t go and talk about my Father, God is my friend. He made this world for us to live in, and gave us everything. And all he asks of us is to give each other love.” Pretty simple, huh. The Spirit will provide all of your needs. All you need to do is love one another. That’s a pretty good deal, if you ask me.

For some of you, summer time may not mean anything different for you than warmer weather. But for me and my fellow educators who are also entrepreneurs, the summer time is my most productive time. For at least 3 months I get A LOT of work done for my business. I am able to sit down, focus and revamp things if necessary, take on more projects, hire more people, and prepare for the last quarter of the year. I LOVE the summer time for this reason. Having the ability to focus daily on my business during the summer is just one of the benefits to being an educator. Education is definitely a passion and I cannot let go of it. But the ability to have the summer time to focus on my business is a true bonus. As I approach the end of the school year (today :)), I want to share this article I came across by Mocha Writer that I thought was a great reminder for work-from-home entrepreneurs. Read and enjoy and have a great summer!
5 Tips for Work-at-Home Entrepreneurs

In a recent conversation with a friend who is CEO of a construction company, I explained how doing business with the government could potentially take her business to the next level. She shared her frustration at responding to RFP (request for proposal). She had bid on many over the years and each time, they were awarded to the same male owned businesses! She then blurted, “If only I could think like a man… I could have won some of those contracts!”
Hmmm, is she right? Do women need to imitate men to be more competitive in business? Should a woman ‘think like a man’ to be more successful in business? Maybe OR maybe not!
Can an Assertive Woman Get What She Wants?
While it is acceptable for men to be assertive; on the other hand, women who go after what they want without apologizing along the way are viewed as aggressive or worse, a witch (drop the ‘w’ and add ‘b’). So, how can women use this to their advantage?
Women can:
Afraid to Take a ‘Chance?’ Odds of Winning… 50/50!
Men are encouraged to take chances. The unknowndoesn’t scare them as it’s a part of doing business. Most women shy away from situations that are uncomfortable or daring.
To take advantage of this strength, it is crucial for women to evaluate, manage and take risk in business. Say you are faced with a challenge and pondering if it is worth taking a chance. Ask yourself:
Life is full of chances! By embracing challenges and obstacles head on, lessons learned from them is well worth it!
Men vs Women in Networking… Which Gender is More Effective?
Men are very skilled at networking. They take full advantage on the golf course, during happy hours and at other informal settings. They cut to the chase and go from introduction to deal.
Women believe in the importance of ‘know, like and trust’which eventually cultivate into business. They develop great relationships but don’t take advantage of their interpersonal or social strengths.
Statistics show that 70% of new business is generated from referrals from networking events. In a recent article, Nicole Williams, author of "Girl on Top: Your Guide to Turning Dating Rules into Career Success,” says, “Women tend to equate networking with "schmoozing" or handing out business cards. In reality, networking is about building relationships before you actually need them."
While women have different strengths and communication styles than men, there are a few simple tips to help in getting the most BANGout of a networking event.
In conclusion, it’s apparent that women and men speak different languages. Neither gender is all right or all wrong. So, it is not necessary for them to ‘Think like a man,’ rather; learn from what they are doing right!

If you've been hearing a lot about Pinterest, it's because it has caught on like a really catchy phrase...it almost seems as though it just came out of nowhere and now it's breaking record speed for popularity, length of time on site (average? 90 mins+!), and more.
If you are a business owner, chances are you have not yet figured out how Pinterest could be used in your marketing strategy. Sure, you have established goals for each of your individual marketing tactics, like your content marketing. You have even created a step by step plan to achieve those goals, possibly with the incorporation of social media (why not, everyone else is). But I bet you didn't think that posting pictures could be much of a marketing boost, right?
Pinterest is boasting faster growth numbers than some of the more popular social networks when they first started out - i.e. Twitter, Facebook, etc. At my last reading, they had nearly 12 million monthly unique visitors and it hasn't even in existence very long. Creating a Pinterest profile could very well help you be exposed to new leads, drive traffic and boost your business growth.
Pinterest is actually catching on so fast, I suspect, because it's heralding the next social media phase - visual imagery. Remember when it was all about written content? Then we heard video? Pictures and visual imagery are hot right now because they speak to people emotionally. Visual aspects of how you market are becoming more and more important. And it would be very smart to develop an image sharing strategy to tell your story, to convey your branding, to make faster connections.
Here are a few ideas to help you get started using Pinterest in your marketing approach:
Remember to test and track your efforts. Add Pinterest to your analytics. Pay attention to who is pinning your content and repinning your pins. Track your Pinterest traffic and integrate your efforts with other traffic generation strategies you're using.
By the way, you have to be invited in order to set up an account. If you need an invite, simply visit me on Facebook and let me know you need an invitation. You'll be able to view my Pinterest tab there also (remember? integration :) ).

So what did you see when you took that long look at your work and home life? Are you spending the majority of your time working or putting off the things that need to get done? If you’re working, what exactly are you working on and are those things relevant to your overall goals? If things aren’t getting done, it’s time to look at your behavior to tell what’s really going on. Start by keeping a time log and enter everything that you do on a daily basis. At the end of each day look back to see how much time you actually spent on work and how much of it was spent on distractions.
If you’re spending time on distractions, what’s distracting you? It might be something else that needs to get done. If this is the case, look at the priorities and schedule appropriate time to get it done, commit to it and get it off your to-do list.
As I said before, the big question is, what is procrastination really costing you? Looking at your time log, make note of the amount of time that you spent on distractions. Multiply that amount of time by your hourly rate. The result is just the cost for that amount of time. Multiply that by the additional time that you’ve spent on distractions or on procrastinating and you’ll see what it’s really costing you. Procrastination will not only cost you precious time, it will cost you monetarily. You could be paying a pretty big cost for putting things off.
The only way to remedy procrastination is to start by taking an in depth look at your behavior to see what you're doing to be able to determine why you do it. The "why" is the key to stopping your procrastination. If procrastination is a big problem for you, I encourage you to check out my 12-week procrastination program, Procrastination Annihilation. I came across a post this evening written by Sharisa Robertson, it has great value and a true purpose, a reminder about how each one does make the world go round.
From Me To You: If YOU don't step into your position and fulfill your purpose then I cannot fulfill mines. We think it only hinders ourselves when we don't make that dream, that vision a reality but that is far from the truth.
You hinder yourself, your bloodline, your relationships, your blessings, and those that were assigned to you that your purpose was designed to assist, to help, to empower, to console, to entertain, to teach, etc. Still don’t know exactly how to move forward, still operating in fear? Please know that the same way there is someone waiting on you to guide their path, there is someone waiting on you to ask them for their help in guiding your path.
Yep, God took care of it already. Just because your dream/vision/purpose is especially and specifically designed for you, it doesn’t mean you are supposed to do it all by yourself. Someone is out there right now, heaven sent, equipped with the solution to your need. As Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you"
So please step in to your rightful position, so that I can continue to step into mind and to help the next step into theirs. This is what makes the world goes round.

Seriously, we all procrastinate at some point in time on something and we’re all familiar with this scenario: You put off doing something and probably have absolutely no idea of how long it takes to do the task you’re putting off. You can end up living in chaos simply because you’re putting off something that will take you just a short time to do. Are you one of those people who shuffle through papers? If so, you probably spend more time shuffling through them each day than it would take for you to sort through them one final time and toss, file or process what’s there in the pile.
Research shows that people spend most of their time and effort working on activities that have nothing to do with the success of their projects. Procrastination is the biggest reason people fail to reach their goals. It is the #1 cause of stress. Research also shows us that stress is caused by leaving too many things undone, which is why some habitual procrastinators always complain about chronic fatigue. Putting things off creates enormous stress in our lives, which manifests as fatigue.
Right now, take a long look at your home and work life. Where are you spending the majority of your time? Are you working on things that are relevant to the big picture, or are you procrastinating and spending more time on distractions. If you’re spending time on distractions, what is it that’s distracting you and why and, the big question is, what is it really costing you? What’s the bottom line cost of putting it off? I'm not posing the question just to have you ponder it. Go do the math! If you're a coach, multiply your hourly rate by the amount of time you waste putting things off. If you provide other services, multiply your hourly rate by that amount of time. What's the cost of putting it off?

When I went to print something out yesterday, I got alerted that my ink cartridges were running low. So I check to see if I had any and found only one black cartridge left. It actually been over a year (maybe two) since I last purchase ink for my HP all-in-one printer. I love my printer and the best investment I made, besides buying it was switching over from regular size ink cartridges to the XL ones. Yes, the XL ones are more expensive but it last way longer (even longer if you rarely print). Since I almost out of both black & color, with just on black ink on hand, I thinking about whether or not I should go an purchase more. I truthfully want to make my business greener and more mobile.
I would love to go away either to visit my Best Friend and Goddaughter, other family or take a vacation with out worrying about work. It’s easier said than done when you are self-employed. I’m my business and when I need to take time off I don’t have other coworkers to handle things in my absent. Yes, I can do a working vacation, which I have done before but I always find myself wanting to take so much stuff, you know just in case I need it.
I don’t want to be like that anymore. Plus with all of the fees airlines are adding on and the lack of affordable (or better yet undesirable) other choices of travel, I must find ways to eliminated unnecessary baggage.
Read on to see how I plan on going green.
As a parent, you have probably already had the “sex talk” with your teenage son or daughter, but have you had the “sexting” talk? ‘Sexting’ is the practice of sending sexually explicit messages or images electronically, primarily via mobile phone. These messages and images can spread like wildfire through schools or even across the country and can even get posted on public websites—turning what may have seemed like a harmless act into one with severe consequences.
If you don’t think this is a problem with teens, think again. According to CommonSenseMedia.org, 22% of teen girls and 20% of teen boys have sent nude or semi-nude photos of themselves and 38% of all teens believe that exchanging such sexy content makes dating or hooking up with others more likely. Wow, those are sobering statistics.
As a security expert, I want to help parents deal with this growing problem and keep their children (and themselves) out of harm’s way. Here are some tips from my new ebook, Safe Text: Protecting Your Teens from the Dangers of Texting:
• Give your teen clear rules on what they can and can’t do with their mobile phone.
• Learn how to use and monitor your teen’s mobile phones.
• Talk about pressures to send revealing photos. Let teens know that you understand that they can be pushed or dared into sending something. Tell them that no matter how big the social pressure is, the potential social humiliation will be hundreds of times worse.
• Remind them that once an image is sent, it can never be retrieved – and they will lose control of it.
• The buck stops with them. If someone sends them a photo, have them delete it immediately

Beyond telling you I love the look of these new watches, I'm not so great with all the specifics (lol), so I thought I would share a few details from the website:
