Bluefield State College

Bluefield, West Virginia

As an historically black, open admissions institution, Bluefield State College prepares students for challenging careers, graduate study, informed citizenship, community involvement, and public service in an ever-changing global society.

To accomplish its mission, Bluefield State College offers undergraduate liberal arts and professional programs in applied sciences, business, education, humanities, social sciences, engineering technologies, and allied health sciences leading to baccalaureate and ass

ociate degrees, the nontraditional Regents Bachelor of Arts degree, and continuing education opportunities.

Bluefield State College was established as a black teachers college by an act of the West Virginia Legislature in 1895 and was integrated after 1954. By the 1960's the College had a comprehensive four-year program of teacher education, arts and sciences, and engineering technology. Gradually a variety of two-year technical programs evolved in response to local needs.

Bluefield State College has emerged as a four-year state supported commuter college serving south-eastern West Virginia with a primary thrust in the direction of career and technical two and four year programs. The liberal arts offerings of the College are focused to enhance its unique mission.

The College offers Baccalaureate and Associate degrees. Instructional programs are offered in engineering technologies, business, teacher education, arts and sciences, nursing and health science professions, and a variety of career fields. Students may also complete the non-traditional Regents Bachelor of Arts degree through Bluefield State College. The College works closely with area two-year colleges in developing two-plus-two degree opportunities for selected baccalaureate level programs whereby the two years completed for an associate degree are applicable toward the baccalaureate degree. Bluefield State College offers a wide variety of courses off campus and through distance.

Bethune-Cookman University

Daytona Beach, Florida

The heart of the university is situated on Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard, representing the historical core of the institution, where the seven historic buildings comprised the historical main campus. Surrounding those buildings are evidences of the progress made in the development of the boundaries which now extend beyond International Speedway Boulevard to the South; George W. Engram Boulevard to the North; Lincoln Street to the West; and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to the East. The university remains connected to Midway, the historic African-American community.

The student population is representative of a microcosm of cultures, traditions, and legacies and resembles a Model United Nations, much like the organization formed on this campus. It’s a multi-cultural heaven.

With more than 3000 students from most U.S. States, the Caribbean Islands, and 35 countries, the impact of this private United Methodist Church-related school is influencing the current enrollment. The university is the 6th largest of the 39-member UNCF colleges. Female students constitute 60% of the total enrollment while male students comprise 40%. In 2004, 64% of Bethune-Cookman University students were Florida natives and 10% of students were from Volusia County, 32% of all students were from the United States (aside from Florida) and its territories, and 4% were international students. The women’s tennis team ranked second place for MEAC.

The great Bethune-Cookman University has risen from the ashes like the mighty Phoenix to become the great citadel of learning in the heart of Central Florida. With a total full-time teaching faculty of approximately 160, 55% of whom hold the doctorate degree, the vision of the founder remains in full view over one-hundred years later. The institution prevails in order that others might improve their heads, hearts, and hands.

Welcome to my new blog column "Oh No They Didn't". I'll be using this post to discuss some of the most scandelous topics that I come across. I actually got the idea from the topic I actually am going to cover in this post.
I was at my job "kicking the shits" with a few of my co-workers. We were doing our usual, comparing interesting stories on the internet. We would always try to find a story that would get the biggest response, or should I say that they would present me with stories that hopefully I would find interesting enough to write and rant about. Often I would find something interesting but I felt as if I didn't have the outlet to do so.
One day though I saw something that made me say "Oh no they didn't!!!" and voila! One of my co-workers decided that I should have a segment of my blog dedicated to the "Oh no they didn't"s in the world. SO here it is.
My topic..."Martin Loofah King"

martin_loofah_king.jpg
No my spell check didn't fail you.
200_3997image_small.jpg
For less than $20.00 you can purchase the Martin Loofah King exfoliating glove. I thoought that this was a joke, but some IDIOT named Shed Simove who goes by the alias Idea Man decided to disrespect one of the founders of the civil rights movement by putting his face on a gag gift. After researching the Ideas Man website I discovered the other tastless items he had online which range from The Butt Plug and the Cock A Doodle Pad.

In order to generate business, prospects, and opportunities you need to be where the people are right? You need to socialize. You need to network. Of course! Well you have been doing just this, but you still aren't generating any business, still haven't gained any new prospects, and still haven't generated any new opportunities. So what's the problem? Hhmmmm, could there be the slight possibility that you are tooting your own horn a bit too loudly? Could you be going a bit over board with the self promotion?

This is a common mistake that many people make and so you are not alone if you are in fact guilty of this. The key in socializing for business is to take a step back and avoid going in heavy with promoting yourself and your opportunity. Put your business on the back burner for a moment and be yourself - your genuine self! Let other people make the introduction for you on occasion. Let others do the horn tooting. Let others ask the questions for a change.

The key is to become a familiar face and recognized voice. Sometimes it is better to be seen and not heard (initially) and when you are looking good and confident, it makes you that much more intriguing! It makes people "want to know." Learn to go with the flow of the conversations around you. Be an active listener! People are nosy by nature! The common first question when networking and socializing in general typically is "sooo, what do you do?" This question then opens the floor for you to make a brief introduction about yourself and possibly your business and/or opportunity. If the listener is interested, they will want to know more! Them wanting to know more then opens the door for you to indulge more.

It is a much more enjoyable experience when your potential customers and prospects are coming to you, as opposed to you chasing after them! Don't be the desperate, over-exaggerated and animated obnoxious person at the Happy Hour or Chamber Event. Relax and attract. It's all about the law of attraction - it works! The more people that you attract, the greater your profit potential becomes!

Everyone is an expert at something - whether you know how to marketthat knowledge or not is the key to creating an expert personal brand.
Wikipedia describes an expert as "a person with extensive knowledge or
ability based on research, experience, or occupation and in a particular
area of study". I have invested in a number of programs, courses,
books, and live presentations over the last several years. All of this
because I believed the facilitator to be an "expert" who could share
information with me that I did not already know.
How is it that some people become recognized as the expert and others,
who may have more information and knowledge about the same topic, do
not?
Three things in general distinguish people who get to wear the expert label:
They are clear on what they believe. Experts tend to rise to this title
because they have taken a stance or a position on something within an
area of study. For example, Dr. Wayne Dyer is a well-known expert in the
field of self development. Dyer has certain principles he believes. It
is clear that part of his message is that each of us is accountable to
our own success and growth. Carole Martin, the Interview Coach, is an
expert in her area. She has developed clear steps to preparing for an
interview.
They tell other people what they believe. People who are recognized as
experts do not keep their beliefs to themselves. Instead, they
communicate a message in some type of written, visual, or auditory form
so that others know their principles. It is one thing to have a thought -
it's another level when you share the thought with someone else. And
the wider your net, the higher and faster you rise to the top as an
expert brand. Dyer and Martin could simply have their beliefs about
steps to take and principles to apply, but until these were shared as
messages to others, no one would have recognized them as a possible
resource.
They are consistent in telling other people what they believe. Having
an expert brand means you are consistent with the beliefs you share with
others. If you say one thing today and have a completely opposite
message next week, it will take away from the credibility of your
personal brand. Consider this example - John Maxwell is seen as an
expert in applying leadership strategies based in Christian principles.
If next month, he came out with a book about loving life as an atheist,
Maxwell's credibility as an expert may drop considerably.
I would now like to invite you to enhance your expert brand and claim
FREE access to my upcoming Career Marketing Style teleclass. Learn 5
different ways you can successfully market your brand and get the
recognition you want YOUR way. Visit http://careermarketingstyle.com for more details & to grab your seat.

Can I tell you a story?

A few days ago, I was just browsing through my email and saw a message from lulu.com about a contest from NatureMade to write a bedtime story. I love writing. Before I got so busy writing ebooks world, I started by self publishing some of my poems and children's books on lulu, so I thought I would try my hand at this contest. I just wrote my entry, a bedtime story entitled, "Let's Play A Game" dedicated to my son Chris. I would love for you to read it and vote for it if you like it. Then share it if you love it! I'm not so lucky when it comes to contests, so I could use ALL the help I can get (lol). For my fellow entrepreneurs and mommy bloggers I have one final thing to say, always stay in the loop and be aware of what other people are doing in the online world. You might learn something new or earn something new that could make your day a little better than it already is! Thanks for reading this post and an extra thanks for clicking here to read my story. The Ron Brown Scholar Program

The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card. Current college students are not eligible to apply.

Each year, a minimum of ten students will be designated Ron Brown Scholars and will receive $10,000 annually for four years, for a total of $40,000. The recipients may use the renewable scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States. Ron Brown Scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline. More than 250 students have been designated as Ron Brown Scholars since the inception of the Program.

Ron Brown Scholars are selected in the spring prior to entering college. Applications are screened during the month of February by Ron Brown Scholar Program staff. In March, finalists are invited to participate in a weekend selection process in Washington, D.C. at the expense of the CAP Charitable Foundation. Finalists are interviewed by members of the Ron Brown Selection Committee and are expected to participate in several Selection Weekend activities. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their applications, interviews and participation in Selection Weekend activities. Notification follows immediately.

Application Deadline

The Ron Brown Scholar Program currently has two deadlines for applications (students must be current high school seniors at the time of their application):

November 1st - application will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program AND forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers.

January 9th - final postmarked deadline in order to be considered for only the Ron Brown Scholar Program ONLY.

Well On My Way

016.JPG

This is for all the natural ladies, those thinking about it, and those who are still relaxing!! Just wanted to show off my coily coils so that you can see how my hair is progressing. The picture that you are viewing above I have not applied any gel, hairdress, oil or spritz since my last wash, which was Friday and it is almost Friday again. I wanted to show you how well the My Glory Hair Care Products work. As you can tell my hair is very hydrated to look like this after a week with out applying any extra products. Some women like to apply the products everyday and sport the wet look for their style...and that is ok if that is what they want to do, as for me I do not particularly care for the wet look; if my hair can look like this dry then I do not need to apply any more products until the next time I wash.

After I wash I apply a generous amount of aloe vera gel, hairdress and since my hair is already wet or damp I do not spray with spritz (all the products I use are My Glory Hair Care with exception of the aloe vera gel). The next step I do is to work the products throughout the hair with my hands then I comb thru my hair; my hair is very easy to comb no tangles:). Then after I comb I brush my hair very well to make sure that all of the products are distributed evenly thru the hair, now it is time to decide on what style I want to wear. This weeks style is my hair pulled back with curls in back. To achieve this hair style, I brush my hair back and tied it down (I took a pair of my little grandaughters' used tights and cut out one leg and use it to tie down my hair in the front, along with a wide head band, wave cap, and silk cap) I do this to help to protect my hair and the ends of my hair. The items that are featured below are in the order that I use them. I layer them and this works very well for me and stays in place.

If you have gone natural and feel that it is a chore you can book your Hair Care Party right now and I will come to your home with your permission and help you and your friends/family with the process of applying the products.

The price to host a party is $150.00. As an incentive to you, we encourage our potential customer(s) who sponsor a party to invite 5 to 15 friends or family members to help them offset the party cost. We recommend you that you ask them to donate $10.00 each for the show and maybe have some snacks served. Demos helps to promote togetherness and networking and are a lot of fun.

For hosting a hair care party, you (the host or hostess) will be given a $15.00 savings for their purchase of the full set of the My Glory Hair Care.

The host / hostess can ask each person(s) whom they invited who will be attending the hair party to visit this website to pay for themselves and/or if they are bringing a guest the guest can be directed here to pay also.

Optional:

The host/hostess can collect all monies due and make a group payment if all parties involved are in agreement.

Why I love Going to the Gym

Today I want to discuss why I love going to the gym. Many of my coworkers seem to think something is wrong with me because I race off to the gym every day. The first thing is that I have a great time there. This is because I choose great classes with awesome instructors that really work hard to motivate the class. Nothing gets me more pumped up than great music and instructors that are good at what they do. I find that I work best by trying to match up with those who are pushing hard. Now don't get me wrong, I wasn't doing this on the first day. I had to build up to this, and you will to. I have learned to not give up when I can't do things right away, but rather to keep trying. There is no greater satisfaction than being able to accomplish what you deemed impossible. I suggest experimenting and finding something that you will like and you will find yourself racing to the gym the same way I do everyday!
