“Time is money.” That three word sentence sums up the life of the woman entrepreneur. When your staff consists of only you, you realize quickly that passing the buck isn’t an option. Instead, you must quickly learn to sort through the multitude of tasks facing you each day and narrow down to only the key revenue- generating activities, while letting the majority of the “noise” fade away.

It’s a fact that you and every other entrepreneur in existence have one thing in common – a 24 hour day. However, what you DO with those 24 hours can be the single difference between having a profitable business or having to take on a side job.

I’m going to give you an opportunity to discover  several ways you can increase your productivity by narrowing down and focusing on the tasks that are going to move you towards your biggest money goals. You’ll learn about prioritizing your daily tasks, grouping them for greater efficiency, and how to keep on top of all the various projects you have going, so you don’t drop any critical elements.

Though you may already feel pressed for time (and the thought of attending a call seems like just another of countless things to do), I encourage you to take a break from your crazy schedule, sit down and secure your place for this call. The time you invest will be paid back in greater efficiency – and therefore profit.

Join me for my no cost call!

Tap into irrefutable productivity secrets and cure patterns of
disempowering habits so you can realize a juicy manifestation of more
time and more money.

Setting Goals To Get Results

In my life I have learned if you Do Not Set Goals you are setting yourself up for failure. Some people set goals to reflect only their business interests; others set only personal goals. Once you get comfortable setting and reaching goals in one area, however, you may want to seriously think about setting and reaching goals in all areas of your life. So Check the below areas on setting your very own goals in life.

Personal Goals

There are a variety of goals that can come under the heading of personal goals. You can break this category down much further into areas of your personal life that you would like to improve. For example, you may set relationship goals, self-improvement goals, personal issues that relate to your body, such as weight-loss or fitness goals, or even personal health goals.

Professional Goals

This is one area where most people are comfortable setting goals. Professional goals usually have something to do with improving an area of one’s work life, such as preparing oneself to qualify for a certain job or improving on an area in your current job. Professional goals may also relate to getting the required education to qualify for a better job, or perhaps learning a new skill that doesn’t require formal education.

Perhaps you’re terrified of making public speeches but need to be able to do so to qualify for the position you’d really like to have. Maybe you already have the skills to speak in public but you just can’t bring yourself to do so. Moving past this obstacle could be a personal goal or a professional goal; it doesn’t really matter where you put it in your goal setting guide. The only thing that matters is that you set the goal and begin to work on that area.

Financial Goals

Financial goals could be goals that mean you want to earn more money professionally or they could be goals where you work on spending less money in your personal life. Whatever area of your life is affected, that is where you want to put your financial goals. Whether it is a personal goal or a professional goal it is still what’s important. What is important is that you identify an area of your life where you are committed to making an improvement and begin by writing down your goal setting strategy.

A Goal for Each Area of Your Life

Balance is the key when it comes to setting and reaching goals. That’s because setting and reaching goals is a tool we use to lead happy and successful lives. For this reason, try not to have every goal in one category only, such as your professional goals or your financial goals. In fact, see how many categories you can think of to set goals in order to help you achieve that balance. Did you know that some people even need to set goals for their leisure life? That’s right! See how many categories you can come up with to set and reach goals. Go ahead, have fun; don’t limit goals to the work part of life; set goals for fun too!

Cheers,

Charlotte

I was talking to a friend and avid blogger recently about how much time and effort goes into starting and growing a blog.  She talked about a client who recently started a blog but frustrated from lack of followers.  So typical!  Natalie MacNeil, Media Producer and award winning blogger for “She Takes on the World, says, “Remember, it's not about you. When I ask most new bloggers what they want out of blogging they usually want to grow their business, sell more products, and maybe make money directly from blogging. Once they finish telling me everything they want out of blogging I say, "Now what does your audience want?" That answer doesn't come as quickly and that's the most important question bloggers need to ask themselves. At the end of the day, the success of your blog will depend on how focused you are on the needs and wants of the people who read your blog. It's all about them.

Nearly two years has passed since I first launched my blog.  I remember having a few followers and posts.  I was determined to create a quality and informative blog so that my target market, aspiring and established women entrepreneurs, could find good content relevant to their business needs.

If you are a business owner, should you be blogging?
To blog or not to blog, is the question? The answer is that as an entrepreneur, this is a great opportunity to establish yourself as an expert in your industry. If executed effectively, this can be a smart online marketing strategy and an affordable way to grow your business. Blogging is ‘big business’ among entrepreneurs, writers and those who just want to express themselves thru electronic communication. More and more businesses are blogging as they realize the benefits. If you have yet to start a blog, here are FOUR reasons you want to start blogging, today:

Reason 1: Build a loyal following
As you post relevant content regularly, you build a loyal group of followers. Be patient as it takes time. As your followers get to know you, they will feel comfortable in passing on leads and referring you to potential clients. Remember the old saying, people buy and refer people that they know and trust.

I recently listened to the Tom Joyner Morning Show, and Jacque Reed, was interviewing blogger Necole Bitchy who just three short years ago, was unemployed and decided to start a blog out of necessity. Today, NecoleBitchie.com is considered one of the fastest growing celebrity urban blog sites on the internet, with over 3 million hits per month. So, be persistent and consistent with your efforts.

Reason 2: Get paid for blogging
If you write good content, build your following, as you can get paid by advertisers. Many bloggers publish their blogs mainly to earn revenue. For example, you can be compensated for a paid review, writing articles, a ghostwriting gig or simply posting ads on your blog site. Many advertisers look for bloggers with a large following.

A few sites that can help you:
  • Google Ad Sense. This is a free program that enables website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads and earn. http://tinyurl.com/ygt6y2h
  • Link Share. A leading provider of full-service online marketing solutions specializing in the areas of Search (SEM), Lead Generation and Affiliate Marketing. Link Share pays for affiliate marketing. http://www.linkshare.com/
  • PayPerPost. This site allows you to make money blogging! You can pick your advertisers, name your own price and negotiate your own deals. https://payperpost.com/
  • Sponsored Review. Bloggers write articles for advertisers after reviewing their products and services. Blogs are posted for review on your blog. Each advertiser has his or her own requirements. Bloggers can earn anything from $10 to $500+ for each review. www.sponsoredreviews.com
Reason 3: Publish your blog articles
There are several online sites where you can submit your articles for publication. Here are a few:
  • www.ezinearticles.com. Expert Authors & Writers are able to post their articles to be featured within the site. The searchable database of hundreds of thousands of quality original articles allows email newsletter publishers hungry for fresh content to find articles that they can use for inclusion within their next newsletter.
  • www.associatedcontent.com. Associated Content enables anyone to participate in the new content economy by publishing content on any topic, in any format (text, video, audio and images), and connects that content to consumers, partners and advertisers.
  • www.articlesbase.com. Articles Base is a free article directory where you can submit and find articles. You can publish your articles for free or find content for your website, ezine, or newsletter.
Reason 4: Post your blog on Social Media Sites
For entrepreneurs using social media as a marketing strategy is a great way to build your business, with minimal to no investment except your time and effort.
  • Facebook - Create a Facebook profile and add the "My Blog Application." Again, join groups and pages that pertain to your blog topic and interact with other members. Share your link with pages and groups and participate in discussion topics.
  • Twitter - Twitter allows you to post updates (called Tweets) as often as you want (and limited to 140 characters). When people follow you, they see your tweets. So, by posting the link to your blog, your followers can follow the link back to your blog. If they like the content, they will retweet it.
  • LinkedIn - LinkedIn's edge is the fact that it's tailored for businesspeople, unlike other social networking sites that also attract a great number of general users. You can use LinkedIn to network with people or groups, or answer questions that other members ask, thus, providing a link to your blog as a reference.
  • Digg – The ultimate social media site; it’s become notorious for producing traffic waves so massive that they can have a DOS-style impact on smaller hosts.
  • Stumble Upon – Helps members discover and share great websites. As you click Stumble, the site delivers high-quality pages matched to your personal preferences. These pages have been explicitly recommended by your friends or one of 8 million+ other web surfers with interests similar to you.
  • del.icio.us – A social bookmarking website; users can mark their favorites with del.icio.us and share them with each other; making it onto the front page of the “recently popular” section on del.icio.us will send a decent amount of traffic so long as the category you’re tagged into is popular.
There are many ways that you can get the most out of promoting and marketing your blog. By incorporating blogging as part of your internet marketing strategy positions your business to be found in the search engines by those that are interested in your product or service.

LIFEYO!

So this past weekend, I went to L.A. to visit a friend. On Friday night while waiting in the airport, the flight was delayed 2 times due to the weather in L.A. So you could imagine the tension glooming in the gate as we were finally able to board. Unfortunately, I missed my opportunity to board earlier and ended up sitting on the last row of the plane. BUT luckily, I got my window seat AND didn't have anyone sitting directly next to me. But in the first seat of the row was a young man as frustrated as I was to be getting to L.A. so late. So we struck up a conversation and I discovered that he is Mike, one of the developers of a free website builder called LIFEYO. It was so cool to speak to him as a developer of a website that helps thousands of business owners. He was interested in hearing my opinions on other website builders and what small business owners like myself need in a website builder. The conversation definitely took our minds off the horrible turbulence we were experienceing due to the storm. But we landed safely and all is well.

Since then, I have checked out the website and it is actually pretty cool! First, it gives you the oppportunity to name your website and start building right away. They even have a demo/tutorial for people to view if they need help. The website builder is easy to use, providing 3 steps to take to complete your website. One of my favorite features is the ability to design and edit the website however you would like. On other sites, although you have a lot of say-so in design, you cannot put pictures, text, etc wherever you would like.

I like that you have more do-it-yourself options. I highly recommend LIFEYO as a place to build a website. Visit their site at http://www.lifeyo.com/. Comment below and let me know what you think.

10 Ways to Build Your Business Credit

Let's face it, your personal and business credit is essential to your financial health as a small business owner. It's important to understand this and learn as much as you can about building and maintaining a good credit score for your business.

Having a business credit score of 75 or higher through Dun & Bradstreet is essential and can help you especially when trying to get lines of credit with vendors.  While cash loans, such as an SBA loan, micro loan or personal signature loan will require a review of your personal credit - your business credit score will help also in making a final decision.

Much has changed in the business credit industry today.  It used to be that you didn't need to always use your personal credit history when applying for small business loans or lines of credit, but that's not the case anymore.  You'll need a personal credit score of at least 680 and again, a D&B score of at least 75.  If your personal score is less than 680, it's time to start working on it right away.

Building your business credit is not something that can be done over night, but it is a gradual process that occurs over a period of time.  As your business grows your business credit worthiness should get stronger and stronger.

A good business credit score will assist in getting business loans, lines of credit and minority or woman-owned certified.  Your business credit worthiness is an essential part of growing your business and it also shows your leadership ability as the owner or CEO.

Below are 10 ways you can get started in building your business credit:

   1. Consider changing the structure of your business to a corporation, such as a Limited Liability Corporation better known as the LLC.  This is the most common structure that many small and micro businesses are using.   If you are not certain of the structure for your business make sure you discuss it with your accountant or attorney.

   2. Apply for a business checking account.  This is an essential part of the process in legitimizing your business.  It will be important for you to keep all of your expenses separate.  This is very important to do if you're incorporated especially.  It is also a plus to keep a minimum balance of $2500 in your account at all times.  This helps in establishing your credit worthiness.

   3. Develop your business plan.  Many times when applying for a loan or line of credit you'll be asked for your business plan.  This normally causes a lot of small business owners to procrastinate, because it can cause one to feel overwhelmed just thinking about writing one.  But, it is necessary and remember to get help doing it.  You don't have to write it alone and neither do you have to create a long 100 page document.

   4. Gather your business financials. Most of the time a lender or loan specialist will also ask you for financials.  This will include the Business Checking Statements, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Projection and Tax Statements.  Depending on the number of years you have been in business be prepared to provide up to 3 years of statements.

   5. Apply for your DUNs (a.k.a. D&B) Number.  The DUNS number is a 9-digit number that is used worldwide in tracking more than 100 million businesses.  It helps to build your company's credibility and helps vendors, lending agencies and others to verify that you are running a legitimate business.

   6. Apply for a business phone line that can provide you with a 411 directory listing.  This is normally with your local phone company.  Validating a business phone number is normally the first thing that vendors do to verify that you are indeed a real business.

   7. If you're a home-based business, consider also using a virtual office service that has a commercial address (not a PO Box or UPS Store).  This means that you should be able to receive packages there and anyone should be able to visit the office and ask for you or your company by name.  There are many such services popping up all of the US, so you shouldn't have a problem finding one.

   8. Make sure that any services you use are in the name of your corporation.  This should include: cell phone, office lease, any machine leases, business services etc.

   9. Start applying for business credit with vendors (Staples, Office Depot etc.) that report to business credit agencies, such as Dun & Bradstreet and Experian.  Make a list of items that you need in your business that can be purchased through a line of credit or lease, instead of using cash.  Don't just trust a vendor's word that they report to business credit agencies; ask if they have it in writing in their literature or credit applications.

  10. Only use 35-50% of your business credit cards spending limit. Business creditors get very nervous when you use anything larger from your spending limit and especially when you don't pay it off within 30 days.  This shows that you might be having a cash flow problem and they run from that.

Once you have received your D&B number, consider using the D&B File Creator Service.  This allows you to quickly place business accounts on your file and helps to establish your credit worthiness quicker.  In addition, it will be important to check your business credit profile at least quarterly to ensure that everything is being reported properly and that your score is getting higher.

As you build your business credit, it is also important to understand the importance of paying your accounts payables at least 7-15 days ahead of time.  This goes over well with business creditors and is reported on your Dun & Bradstreet credit report, which helps your score to go higher.

The information points provided above are suggestions based on the success that others have had in building their business credit.  It is not a conclusive list and there are many other things to consider when working on building your company's financial reputation.  However, it's a start in the right direction.

Hi Ladies!

I know!I know! Social Media is all the rage and if you're not using it you're wondering should you. It looks time consuming and it can be, Yet it doesn't have to be. I didn't start out doing a lot of things in social media because I'm somewhat technophobic. You start talking to me in techie terms my eyes start glazing over. The surprise is that I've become the SEO Queen, literally by accident. Google and my sell sites love me. I'm in Beta for everything they roll out. I was trying to understand selling online and what was needed to get people to my sites. I've become very good at it. Problem was my back end was raggedy. I like most small businesses (especially Mompreneurs) was time and cash strapped. I couldn't afford to pay for everything I needed.  I had to and needed to know how things worked.

I restarted my business after being a way from it for a good many years. The marketplace looked a whole lot different after a ten year break. I'm a gorilla marketer offline. I could get through the door if I couldn't handle the business once I got in. My saving grace was if I couldn't handle the business I would tell you that. People trusted that I wouldn't leave them hanging in the wind. I did my darnest to live up to that trust. I have couple of rules in business that people know I lived and died by.

First. If I'm doing business with you I return all calls within 48 hours. If its not returned, I didn't get it or I'm unconsicous.

Second. If you're not involved in the deal its NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. I apologize for the caps, but I need to emphasis this one. Until the deal is completed  it is not to be discussed with anyone not involved. (Did I mention I did international trade for nearly 20 years?). Folks who dealt with me know I'm a neurotic on this one.

I have never understood people sitting in a Holiday Inn (dating myself here this was the Starbucks of an earlier time.) or restraurant telling all and I mean all the details of a deal. This includes the who, what and where of the transaction. All the info you would need to take the deal away from them. This used to amaze me when I witnessed, therefore the reason for #2.

I've spent the last several years learning this new way of doing business amd understanding how and when to use the components. I will be sharing this journey under my old business name. I'll be revealing that info in the next several weeks. This has been and continues to be an awesome journey, please join me on it.

Chance Encounters

I just wanted to share this story: over the summer I had been invited to bring my jewelry to a block party and at the same time make some money. That particular day, it was so hot nobody was really there. So I began to feel a little discouraged because even after people started showing up, I got lots of compliments, but nobody was buying anything…total frustration at this point. Then one of the teenagers there approached me and we began talking and I must say this kid really brightened my day. She began by telling me how much she loved jewelry and kind of experimented making things. It felt like she was actually giving me a interview. I’m sorry I forgot what her name was, but I had decided that before it was time to leave there I wanted to do something nice for this young lady and so I did…I gave her just about all the jewelry I had come with. So by now you probably think I was nuts, but I have so much jewelry I could open my own store! You just never know where or when you will get blessed. Just wanted to share that maybe it may brighten someone’s day.
