Financial Tips for December 2010

Make Charitable Contributions
Consider making charitable contributions before year-end both to obtain the maximum tax deduction and to fulfill any charitable programs or commitments you may have established.

Buy a New Car
If you need a new car, now is a great time to purchase or lease. Frequently, dealers are anxious to clear out last year's inventory prior to year-end. In making your choice, consider the federal tax (and occasional state tax) advantages for buying fuel-efficient vehicles.

Examine Investments
Examine your current investments to determine those with unrealized losses. Consider selling those investments to take the loss this year. You can deduct up to $3,000 in capital losses in excess of capital gains. However, do not let the tax savings outweigh the investment potential. You might consider "swapping" for a similar company in the same industry if you like the potential of the industry.

Pay Tax-Deductible Expenses
Consider paying tax-deductible expenses prior to year-end. Some common examples are real estate taxes, quarterly state or local income taxes, investment-related expenses, and dues. These must be paid by December 31 to obtain a deduction this year. Professional guidance will be helpful here, so please call us.

Evaluate Your Progress
Evaluate your progress for the year. How close were you to your budget? Recalculate your net worth. Compare it to the value at the beginning of the year. How did you do?

It’s time to let go and move forward!

Are you still holding a grudge?A major problem that I notice that a lot of my clients have is unforgiveness. This can range from family to friends and down to ex-boyfriends. This is something that is a major issue that will repel Mr. Right from ever coming your way. And if you have ever worked with me then you know that this is one of the first things we work on in our coaching sessions. One of my clients once asked me why is it so important that we work on forgiveness. I explained to her that the reason we work on forgiveness is because it sets you free. Have you ever heard the saying “The truth will set you free.” Well, it is the same thing with forgiveness. When you walk around with unforgiveness towards someone they have power over you. Do you actually want someone to be able to have control over you? I don’t think so. I have seen countless women hang on to issues and situations that happened years ago.You might be reading this and asking yourself, Erica what does this have to do with attracting Mr. Right? It has everything to do with it. You see unforgiveness is a form of baggage. If you were to meet that special someone today or tomorrow then you would be bringing baggage into your relationship. I would prefer that you enter into a new relationship clean so that it can blossom into something healthy and prosperous. So let’s talk about the benefits of forgiveness.• Forgiveness sets you free• Releases you from past heartaches and pains• Releases anger• Heals you spiritually• Prepares you for loveI am no different from you and have walked around with unforgiveness in my life. After my ex-boyfriend and I stopped dating, I never fully forgave him for what he did. I didn’t even forgive myself for the things I did to him. So before I could move forward I had to forgive both of us because I knew I didn’t want the next man dealing with my previous crap.So one day I had the courage to call up my ex-boyfriend and tell him that I forgave him. (I didn’t actually call but texted instead. Sorry I didn’t have enough courage to do that and besides it was like 1 year later.) Anyway, I texted him and told him that I forgave him for everything that he did to me and I also asked for his forgiveness. In my mind, I thought that this conversation was going to go well but it didn’t. He basically cursed me out through texting and said that he wasn’t going to forgive me. I was shocked after all of this amount of time he still was holding a grudge. So the lesson that I learned is:You don’t have to wait for someone to forgive you to let go of unforgiveness.Mr. Right Attraction AssignmentYour assignment for this week is to make a list of all of the people that you are still holding a grudge against whether it is family, friends, or ex-boyfriends. It doesn’t matter.Once the list is made I would like for you to choose from the following:Option 1Write them a letter describing how they have hurt you and you are forgiving them. (This letter does not have to be mailed but can be burned instead. It’s a sign of letting it go.)Option 2Contact the people on your list and talk to them about how they have hurt you and let them know that you forgive themMandatoryWrite yourself a letter and tell yourself that you forgive yourself for everything that you have been blaming yourself for. Sign it, seal it, and mail it to yourself. Once you have received it in the mail read it aloud to yourself. If you would like to recieve more of Erica's weekly Mr. Right Attraction articles visit. www.guidingu2succes.com and download your free "How to Attract Mr. Right Kit."

I recently witnessed a multi-million dollar deal unfold after two years. Two years of time, talent and knowledge put in and no deal! Not to mention at least $100,000 spent on analysis, studies and reports determining the feasibility of the project. The principals/key players that were a part of this team didn't get paid for the hundreds of hours that they put into this project. Why would they work for free? When you look at the potential of the opportunity, that would ultimately return several millions of dollars in revenue the question then becomes, why would they not work for free?

What are you willing to put in to "the Project" to reap the rewards that you ultimately dream about? The projects, ventures and opportunities with the highest payouts tend to require a commitment that most people are unwilling to make. This commitment that most won't make is what keeps most people working for other people as opposed to working for themselves! This commitment that most won't make contributes to the growing gap between the rich and the poor!

The investment of time, talent and knowledge is the commitment that I am referring to. Most people feel that if they aren't being paid upfront, it isn't worth their time.

Most people feel that if they aren't being paid up front, they have no reason to waste their talent.

Most people feel that if they aren't being paid upfront, they aren't giving anyone else their knowledge.

The difference between people that achieve and maintain a high degree of life long success and prosperity realize the value of investing in the right opportunities which require a great deal of time, talent and knowledge and no compensation up front but have end results that are immeasurable. When you put a set price tag on your time, talent and knowledge you can potentially miss out immensely. It isn't always about how you can benefit today. What about how you can benefit in the future? Make it about how you can retire at 40…or before! Don't limit yourself!

The 13 Moon Goddess Archetypes

The 13 Moon Goddess Archetypes

(From 13 moon Oracle Cards by Ariel Spilsbury)

1. The Great Mother

----------------------------------

"She Who Nurtures and Sustains." The way of the Great Mother is the way of receptivity. The Great Mother aspect acknowledges and empowers through nurturing, preserving, taking care by providing safety and security. Great Mother's transcendent function in the Mystery is the fruit of union. She provides a grounded nest out of which creativity may be more freely expressed. The shadow aspect of this archetype can look like fear of abandonment that causes an imbalanced focus on safety and security that supports fixity and predictability at the expense of freedom and novelty. This can look like the Cosmic Mama: over responsible, over-controlling, over-nurturing, unconsciously supporting co-dependency. Hidden in this shadow of over-nurturing are deeper collective issues of lack of self-worth and self-love. The balance can be found in nurturance through learning the lessons of giving and receiving and finally in simply allowing the Universal nurturance that simply is, to flow through us.

The Great Mother's gateway is found through conscious surrender and adoration.

"I surrender. I receive."

Color: Burgundy

Goddess Archetypes: Shakti, Demeter, Gaia, Shechinah, Hathor, Mary Magdelene

2. Goddess of Compassion

--------------------------------

"She Who Enfolds in Mercy, Forgiveness and Compassion." The way of the Goddess of Compassion is the way of unconditional love and mercy. This archetypal aspect of the Goddess is the essence of divine perfect love. As with Kwan Yin, She acknowledges and empowers herself and others through fluidity and being in the flow. The Goddess of Compassion's transcendent function in the Mystery is the transmutation of the very perception of suffering.

The shadow of this aspect of the Goddess as it plays out in us, can be seen in personal self-denial, that is having more compassion for everyone else than oneself. In this shadow "no" tends not to be in the vocabulary and no boundaries are set for self-care. This tendency to be a rescue/savior in the name of compassion, actually feeds co-dependency and emotional addiction rather than self-responsibility and growth.

The Goddess of Compassion's gateway is accessed through humility and forgiveness.

"I recognize. I seed."

Color: Violet

Goddess Archetypes: Kwan Yin, Green Tara, Mary

3. Priestess

---------------------------------

"She Who Is Keeper of the Keys and Guardian of the Mysteries." The priestess is the feminine archetype of stillness, silence and centered presence. From this female receptive place, she becomes the keeper of the keys, the guardian of the female mysteries; only from the place of inner stillness can divine knowing actually flow. The Priestess' transcendent function in the Mystery is she represents the universal flow of the divine feminine and balance within that flow; through intuition and feeling she is a guide into the unseen realms.

The shadow aspect of the priestess can be seen in the human psyche, as over subjectivity, becoming so lunar and intuitive as to be ungrounded or unattached to the Earth plane.

The Priestess's gateway is meditation, divination with oracles, presencing beauty, reflection, knowledge of symbols and color, poetry.

"I amplify in stillness"

Colors: Royal or Sapphire Blue

Goddess Archetypes: Lady of the Lake Adelaine, Vesta, Hestia, Morgaine, Eleusian Priestess, Sibyl, Islandia

4. Creator/Preserver/Destroyer

-----------------------------------------------

"She Who Gives and She Who Takes Away." The way of the Creator/Destroyer is the way of non-attachment. This aspect of the Goddess acknowledges and empowers through intensity in all its forms, intended to polarize your responses until you instead choose to use the same intensity to experience Oneness. The Creator / Destroyer's transcendent function in the Mystery is this archetype represents bringing one into unity consciousness through resolution of all duality pairs into Oneness.

The shadow aspect of this archetype can be seen in the human tendency to turn this raw or often unexpressed creative energy into chaotic destructiveness, developing affection for the drama of conflict, wanton fits of passion, anger, jealousy, competitiveness or wrathful revenge. In the human play out of this shadow there is a lack of the quality of forgiveness. In this shadow, one gets to experience how unresolved rage erodes vitality, creativity and well-being. In the shadow of this archetype there is a tendency to hold a grudge and withhold love or separate and cut-off entirely from a relationship rather than try to heal or change it.

Her gateway is accessed through deep feelings and passion.

"I focus. I create."

Color: Red, White, Black, (Creator, Preserver, Destroyer)

Goddess Archetypes: Kali Ma, Pele, Tibetan Dakinis, Cerridwen, Sekhmet, Durga

5. Lady of Communion

-------------------------------------------------

"She Who is a Guardian of All Life." The way of the Lady of Communion is the way of the spiritual warrior. In this aspect of the Divine Feminine is the ability to hold an intention and the skill to manifest the intention. In working with this archetype one is assisted in looking impeccably at what is motivating any action or intention. This archetype assists us in holding a focus, an intent, and the strength, commitment and impeccability, to fulfill our aims. Impeccability requires truth, responsibility and competence but most of all it requires discipline. This aspect of the Goddess is a sovereign androgyny, representing the equal balance of the female and male aspects within. The Lady of Communion's transcendent function in the Mystery is she represents limitlessness.

In the shadow, this can look like becoming absorbed in what one is doing in such a way, that it can exclude everything that seems to be extraneous to the work or long-term goal.

The Lady of Communion's gateway is accessed through empathy and communion with all life, as a sacred reflection. She is a self-empowered and self-actualized co-creator with the Divine.

"I intend. I empower"

Color: Emerald Green and Gold

Goddess Archetypes: Artemis, Diana, Flora, Rhiannon, Bast, Lady of the Beasts, Epona, Kore, Priestess of Eleusis

6. Muse

-------------------------------------

"She Who Inspires and Energizes Manifestation." The way of the Muse is the way of epiphany. (epiphany is the sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something, apprehending its soul, an appearance or revelatory experience of the Divine, the showing through and recognition of essence). The Muse acknowledges and empowers through creative insight. The Muse is a means of access to hearing and sensing the soul's voice. The Muse's transcendent function in the Mystery is she represents metamorphosis of the soul, hence her association with the symbol of the butterfly.

In this aspect's shadow, sensitivity has often been shut down in the name of survival, in order not to feel. Often in the human reflection of this shadow, there is scattered and unfocused creativity, indecisiveness, boredom, avoidance, procrastination, lack of discipline and incompletion of that which has inspired one to create in the first place.

The Muse's gateway is accessed by spontaneity.

"I play. I inspire."

Color: Turquoise/Aquamarine

Goddess Archetypes: Calliope, Urania, Fana, Thalia, Clio, Iris, Brigid, Sarasvati

7. Goddess of Love

-----------------------------------------

"She Whose Beauty Embraces in Love." The way of the Lover is the way of presence in the present moment. The Lover embraces, inspires passion, and offers eternally fulfilling unconditional love and sensual ecstasy. The Lover sees the Beloved in every face. Through beauty, life around her sphere is brought into natural harmony. Harmony is a natural state of being in this aspect. In this state of harmony, body, mind, feelings and spirit are not in conflict, but in unity and linked to ones essence and the larger pattern of perfection. Harmony is merely a reflection of a higher order of reality. The Goddess of Love's transcendent function in the Mystery is that this aspect of the Goddess represents this higher order of natural harmony of which beauty is an example.

The shadow of this aspect of the Divine Feminine, as it plays out in human nature, may look like self-absorption, vanity, excessive focus on outer form rather than inner beauty, insensitivity to the needs and feelings of others, the use of flattery or other untruthful communication aimed at manipulating to get what one wants or to successfully compete for that which one desires. Jealousy, comparison and insecurity are shadow aspects of this archetype in human nature. In this archetype is found distortions in body image.

The gateway to the Goddess of Love is found through beauty in all its aspects.

"I feel. I respond. I beautify."

Color: Pink

Goddess Archetypes: Aphrodite, Freya, Laxshmi, Ishtar, Sarasvati, Oshun, Radha, Ishtar, Xochiquetzal, Astarte

8. Primal Goddess

------------------------------------

"She Who is Natural, Instinctual, Untamed and Free." With the motto, "Everything to excess", she pushes past the interpretations and boundaries the mind has developed out of habit patterns and limiting beliefs, into experiencing new freedom. Primal Goddess follows her instincts and passions without rationalization and mental approval of the inner adult critic or for acceptance. The Primal Goddess's transcendent function in the Mystery emerges through the use of creativity and passion, and through that, co-creation of reality.

In the shadow aspect, shame, guilt, anger, powerless, doubt, and stagnant creative energy are common themes as we may try to get what we want, without simply standing in our power and truth and asking directly for what we desire, or use the powerful energy of kundalini to sexually seduce and manipulate.

The gateway to this aspect is found through ecstatic attunement, and can be accessed through deep meditation, dancing, writing, painting, lovemaking, prayer making, singing, imagination or any activity which accesses an intense and altered state of consciousness.

"I fuel. I consume."

Colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Gold and Copper

Goddess Archetypes: Shakti, Pele, Lillith

9. Initiator

----------------------------------

"She Who Empowers and Offers Second Birth." The way of the Initiator is the way of Truth. The Initiator acknowledges and empowers through challenge. She prunes, encourages growth, catalyzes change, expands perceptions, cultivates and ripens potential, motivates alignment with essence and truth, tunes the harmony of each being. If recurring patterns threaten to confine us in a stereotype of our authentic selves, the Initiator will confront us again and again until we grow. She cannot be distracted from her purpose. She leads us through pain to joyful insight. If we try to resist her, she will hound our footsteps to the end. In this, her compassion is unparalleled in its determination. The Initiator's transcendent function in the Mystery is that she is coherence, the force by which molecules are held together.

The shadow aspect of this archetype plays out in the human psyche in issues of power, control and recognition. The initiator aspect may seem impersonal, cold, uncaring or unfeeling to the human ego.

The Initiator's gateway is found through coherent resonance.

"I align. I challenge. I clarify."

Color: Purple

Goddess Archetypes: Isis, Cerridwen, Maat

10. Wise Woman

------------------------------

"She Who Sees, Heals and Shows the Way." The way of the Wise Woman-Healer is the way of acceptance and allowance. This archetype of the Goddess is often seen as an elder or crone, the Wise Woman-Healer, a woman who "knows" through her bringing together the instinctual, the rational and the intuitive. She holds a child-like wisdom in an ancient heart. The Wise Woman's transcendent function in the Mystery is to offer us a vision of the indestructibility of the Self.

In the shadow aspect this archetype, if young in development, there may be a tendency to fix, rescue or save others, not recognizing and accepting that at one level of awareness, everything is evolving and choosing paths for growth that are perfect for them in every moment and that because each being is determining its relationship to the whole, there is nothing in the Universe that needs to be altered.

Her gateway is found through resonance.

"I simplify. I resonate."

Color: Black and White

Goddess Archetypes: Sophia, Athena, Hecate, White Buffalo Calf Woman, Sedna

11. Weaver/Dreamer

------------------------------------

"She Who Dreams and Weaves Reality with the Great Mystery." The way of the Weaver is the way of relationship and connectedness. The Weaver Dreamer's transcendent function in the Mystery is the nurturance of the soul, weaving the pattern that connects everything to the One.

In the shadow aspect, it is easy to be a "dreamer" and get lost in possibilities rather than focusing in a "down to Earth" way to realize one of those potential realities. There is also a tendency in this shadow aspect to disconnect, separate, withdraw to a dream world and not see oneself as part of the pattern of the whole.

Her gateway is found through dreams.

"I dream. I connect."

Colors: Magenta and Black

Goddess archetypes: Kokyongwukti, Ariadne, Ixchel

12. Queen of Death

-------------------------------------

"She Who Leads the Depth Descent Within." This aspect of the Goddess acknowledges and empowers through consciously composting the masks of the small ego, and in doing so she asks us to courageously walk into the unknown and the murky subconscious realms to retrieve the gifts held there. Trust is a state of surrender to the divine self, knowing that one is supported on one's journey toward wholeness, no matter how it looks in the surface appearance of one's life. Trust implies the acceptance that the lessons one is given are serving one's highest evolution and potential toward growth and wholeness.

The shadow of this aspect of the Goddess as it plays out in its human expression, may look like fear of death and unwillingness to look at the darker, more painful aspects of our experience and journey. The shadow can also look like emotional subjectivity, depression, sadness, and denial, choosing to become obsessively focused on pain or fear or the drama of the darker aspects of spiritual growth.

The Queen of Death's gateway is found through trust.

"I release. I trust."

Color: Black

Goddess Archetypes: Inanna, Persephone, Uma

13. Alchemical Goddess

-----------------------------------------

"She who is a Shape-shifter, Changing Woman." This is the integrated, balanced and whole image of the Goddess. She is that which resolves duality in her primary being-ness. She encompasses all duality pairs in a sweepingly expansive unified field of consciousness which is all things and no thing, and to die to unneeded parts and masks of self, to give up the life of sleeping consciousness for the painful process of being born in wakeful awareness. Alchemy is the raising of vibration. All that we do in the process of spiritual evolution has to do with raising the vibration; this is the work of the Alchemical Goddess. The Alchemical Goddess's transcendent function in the Mystery is the marriage of male and female polarities within; a complete awakening in unity is the goal of this archetype.

If we were look at a human play out of a shadow for this aspect it would look like struggle, resistance, fixity, moving against the flow.

The gateway to the Alchemical Goddess is through ecstasy. That does not mean that you do not experience, what appears to be suffering in your life. It means you have a choice about how you interpret what happens to you, and accepting, without exception, the perfection of every unfolding moment as part of the ever changing.

"I am freedom. I am grace. I am union."

Color: Rainbow

Goddess archetypes: Iris, Black Madonna, Changing Woman

After reading one of my favorite articles 'Plan With Pizzazz' with Cherly Isaac, she brought up a good point about how a good infomercial must grab the attention of the spectator, be specific, time conscious and seek a direct response from the potential buyer. Although it may look like a simple orchestration on television, an infomercial is actually difficult to do well.

Cheryl stated in the article that "If startup entrepreneurs were to pretend that their business presentations or retail sales were infomercials, a lot could be gained."

asseenontv.jpg

I totally agree with her on that ephiphany! Just look at it this way: At the startup stage of business, you're an unknown. Your struggle is to turn a potential client into a new client. At this point, the potential client has the attention span of a 5-year-old. After all, why should she listen to you? You are not a proven entity, and she is sharing her precious time with you. At the same time, you may be thinking: "I've invested a lot of time, energy and money into this venture and I need to see some return."

Both you and the infomercial creator are wrestling with similar thoughts. You both need to get the customer interested in the shortest time possible, you need a quick response, and you need to showcase the benefits of your product or service.

An infomercial strives to get a response from the viewer. The infomercial has to be explicit in telling the viewer what she must do. Entrepreneurs also need to garner responses from their potential clients. When drafting your proposal, designing your presentation, running your TV or print ad or designing your website, tell your potential client what you want her to do. Use language that is specific, avoid questions, and outline your next steps. For example, most web advisors will tell you to have a "call to action" button on all your web pages. The call to action tells your visitors what you want them to do. For example: Buy Now, Join Now, Call this Number, Apply Now.

An infomercial generates a sale or a lead. Sometimes you run across an infomercial that directs you to call a number and get a free introductory product. This is a lead. Most of the time, they direct you to purchase a product. This is a sale. Some startup entrepreneurs may have varying sales processes. If you have a higher dollar product or service, or a time-consuming service, your potential client may want to get comfortable with you first. You may then try to generate a lead. Another startup could have a low-priced product that needs to be sold on the first try. Figure out where you fall and design your sale or lead generator.

An infomercial has live demonstrations. What seems effortless on your TV screen is usually practiced tirelessly on the back end. The demonstration reveals all aspects of the product, its benefits are showcased, and you are told why you should buy the product. Startups usually have products that are in beta phase. So most of the time, the potential client has to be educated on its similarity to and difference from similarly situated products. Learning how to demonstrate a product's worth or a service's value is a great advantage for a startup entrepreneur.

Responses from an infomercial are measured. One of the top priorities of an infomercial is to perform. People must buy, and sales must be made. The buzz has to be created. Well, startup entrepreneurs have the same priorities. Yet, like infomercials, they too must realize that in order to get a response, specific steps (like the ones mentioned above) must be followed. As a startup, your goal should include measuring the response of your ad, presentation, proposals, etc. Did it work? Can it be done differently? Does it make sense?

Hey Fellow BBWO's (Black Business Women Online! :-)icon_smile.%20gif

Here’s a little hidden piece of the internet puzzle!

Social sites like Facebook and Twitter has made it easy for you to quickly share news articles, blog posts, etc. around but wouldn’t it be nice if you could also add some of your own commentary to the page before sharing it with the world?

Well, there’s a new and interesting web app called markup.io that can help you here. It instantly turns any web page into a virtual whiteboard where you can add text, draw shapes, arrows or even do some freehand drawings. Here’s a quick demo:

While you are on a site, hit the markup.io button on your browser bookmarks toolbar and it will float a set of drawing tools one that page. You can scribble over the page now and when you hit publish, all your drawings and annotations are saved to a unique URL that you can now pass along in your social circle.

If you make a mistake, you can use the usual keyboard shortcuts -- ctrl+z will undo your previous action while the backspace key will remove the element from the page.

Markup.io is available in the form of a bookmarklet so there’s no need to download or install anything and it’s compatible with all browsers except for IE 6 (which you shouldn’t be using anyway).

10 Commandments of Social Marketing

iStock_000000902373XSmall1.jpgThere was a news episode not too long ago asking about whether or not etiquette is "dead" in our society. I don't think so, but I do believe it sometimes escapes us.

So many of us are multitasking and trying to hurriedly move on to the next thing. We often forget about basic niceties that connect us to people in an authentic way, and that's very easy to do online when you don't have to face the person the next day.

I thought I'd share my 10 commandments of social marketing - lessons I've learned along the way as I try to navigate through the internet and meet new people, using social media to build my personal brand presence online.

What do you think? Are there lessons you are learning to incorporate into your own online etiquette? Add yours in the comments.

  1. Be focused and connect all activity back to your core message and purpose. Research & identify with which target markets (potential clients and/or partners) you would like to connect.
  2. Do not mistake social networking as the “end all”; it should not be your sole marketing & relationship strategy. Use social networking in conjunction with traditional methods that work.
  3. Set boundaries and standards when dealing with people online, as well as offline. Examine how well you are representing yourself in what you write or post.
  4. Commit to a certain amount of time daily, weekly, monthly on your social network. Then give it a rest.
  5. Connect with others who are successful social networkers with interests that complement your own. Also, be wise about the information you share on the internet.
  6. Be careful not to bash others. The internet has a long memory. Respect that other people have opinions too, even when you do not agree.
  7. Be wary of enticements into get rich quick schemes. Stay true to your own business strategy & personal goals.
  8. Don’t plagiarize other people’s work. Make sure your own online work is protected via trademark, etc.
  9. Remember, relationships first, business second. Providing compassionate criticism is an art that you can learn to master instead.
  10. Do not constantly compare yourself. Know your own services/products well & maximize them.

The Heart of Compassion: A conversation with the Goddess of Compassion

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My beloved Goddess of Compassion when I look at the world around me- when I see all the suffering and pain that my sisters are experiencing all over the world I feel anger towards those who are perpetrate the wounding. I find myself in a deep query- how can I love those who are causing such torturous harm?

Goddess of Compassion: My dear beloved YOU. My heart swells with your question- my heart softens and opens as you are willing to breathe in the suffering of your sisters, that you are willing to feel the anger course through you. Your courageous heart, your loving heart- your compassionate heart- we are all held in the love of your heart.

The lotus of my heart brims full of violet fire- the fire of fierce compassion - I ask you to bring you anger to the brazier of the violet flame- and as you sit I ask you to consider, Who is hurting? Who is suffering? - Sit with your heart and truly ask - for it is not simply those who are victims to terrible abuse that suffer- your wise heart knows this. Those who suffer are those who inflict the pain- they suffer. We are all the faces of the

divine- everyone of us...

I know this- I know this wisdom and yet my anger at times feels like it will burn my being- when I feel this anger - it feels so justified, it feels so legitimate- to wish ill on those who are causing such destruction...

Goddess of Compassion: Dearest one- your wisdom abounds- Now feel this anger fully, stand in the shoes of this anger, this justification- fully embrace it- and know that those who perpetrate feel exactly the same way- they feel justified in all that they do- they feel that they have the right- they feel the same level of rage in their blood. So let me ask you this beloved- to take a practice:

1. Breathe into a place of deep gratitude in your heart - open your heart to something or someone you love . Feel your heart swell- feel your heart open petal by petal.

2. Now on the next in breath- breath in the color black- feel just heaviness- darkness.

3. Now on the out breath- breath out white- feel lightness in your being.

4. Now imagine a situation that is hard for you- a situation of suffering- where you feel the suffering of one of those sisters. Breathe in the Suffering- be willing to feel it in all of its despair.

5. And on the out breath- Breathe out LOVE, unconditional love to her, and to all those who suffer- including those who have harmed her.Whenever you feel that anger, that justification in your being allow the deep wisdom of you alchemical heart to transmute this suffering into love- that is the deepest service you can do - for yourself and all beings. I LOVE YOU -

May all beings be free of suffering

May all beings be FREE

May all beings know love

May all beings feel forgiveness

May all beings be happy

You have to keep your sense of humor being self employed. I completed a 30 day Blog A Day Challenge. (Yay ME!). Then some nefarious virus high jacked my computer and would not let me connect to the internet unless I paid $69.99 to add their bogus Microsoft Think Pad. My computer is at the shop now. (I'm at the library. Time for a Mac.)

I could have handled this one of two ways. 1) I could have freaked out and got nothing done or 2) I could do what I did. After I was unable to remove it (not using Norton but another software program) I had a good laugh and crocheted a cap. Why stress over something you can't change at the moment. Stress takes a physical toll on your body so don't give into it. Rechannel that stress energy into something else.

Regarding the blogging my stats went up; I had people join; click to my sell site. By me being consistent people were coming back on a regular basis to check out my blog, so if you're not doing it get started. Smile.

How would you have handled the situation?

I would love to provide your handmade unique gifts for the holidays.

Beauty is only Skin Deep

We hear the saying all the time “Beauty is skin deep.” Now what does that mean? If you were reading the statement beauty is skin deep your first thought would probably be that if you’re not pretty or handsome you somehow have less value than people who are more attractive. Though we all know this isn’t true there are some superficial people in the world who actually feel this way but everybody’s beautiful in their own way.

There are several ways that a person can look at the statement beauty is only skin deep. One being that the outward appearance is the only thing that counts (which would be taking it literally, that beauty doesn’t go further than the skin) and another meaning that beauty is something that is somewhat of an illusion or in other words something that’s superficial and fleeting. Just because a person is beautiful on the outside doesn’t mean they will be beautiful on the inside. They could have the most unattractive personality. That’s not to say that people who are a little less attractive have the best personalities either, depends on each individual. You just have to take a look inside to see what’s there. A lot of people who are not as attractive typically do have really great personalities more so than those who are more attractive. My explanation for this is simply because beautiful people sometimes feel that their beauty will carry them in all aspects of life so they have a tendency to not work so hard on the inward stuff and developing their personality. They rely too heavily on their looks to get them through life. A free ride so to speak. For people who know they are not as attractive, they take the time to develop themselves in other ways to make themselves more appealing and therefore create more personal assets aside from the superficial stuff like beauty. If you look a little deeper you will find beauty beyond what’s on the outside. Because we have our minds set and trained on what the standard of beauty is, sometimes we find difficulty in seeing past that outer shell which will eventually fade away as we age. We have to learn to look beyond what is in front of us. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. People should be judged by their character, not their looks. Now I’m not at all saying that beauty is not important. Beauty is one of God’s creations. It’s a wonderful thing! And of course you definitely want to have someone in your life that you are dating or married to who is as equally attractive as you are because it’s important to have an equal partner in the area of intellect, looks, financial status, spirituality, etc. but of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You just don’t want to be the kind of person who constantly judges people based on their looks and picks their friends based on status as far as outward things like looks and material things because you never know what kind of inward beauty you are missing out on all because you didn’t take the time to get to know someone.

Everybody has their own definition of beauty. There is a standard of beauty in our country with specifics and partiality to nose sizes, eye shape/color, hair type, face shape, and the overall body proportion. It is said that there is a Universal definition of beauty. What that means is that there is some scientific theory of Divine Proportion. Divine Proportion advocates that everything in the universe is based on the proportion 1 to 1.618. Someone took the time to study numerous things in the world in art, architecture, advertisement, music, birds, flowers, and even the human body and discovered a Divine Proportion law that is consistent in everything. Don’t know if this is particularly true or not but hmmm…something worth studying because it’s very accurate. For example, regarding the human body, each succeeding finger bone is 1.618 the length of the preceding finger bone. This theory also states that all beautiful faces regardless of race, age, and sex, conform to the Divine Proportion. When you really think about it, how many times have we thought after looking at someone with a huge nose or crooked teeth, humongous oversized lips or elf like ears have we thought to ourselves or even said out loud…wow that’s an ugly person right there. That’s not such a nice statement to make, but even if you see a wilted flower or some other things in art, fashion, clothing, etc. out of proportion or not quite right according that standard of “beauty” we don’t really find it appealing do we? Well I say beauty is ONLY skin deep or superficial.

When I was a little girl, somewhere during my early teen years from the age of 13 and throughout my adolescent years, I had this nagging thought that because I was pretty, which I was often told by people quite often, I would somehow have a horrific accident of some kind that would steal my beauty. Either through a car accident or some other type of tragic incident. This is a thought that developed after years of experiencing jealousy from various people in my life. I never could understand why it was so hard for females to give another female a simple compliment about their hair or clothes or something so simple as “those shoes are really cute.” I never had a problem giving compliments. But I guess when an individual is lacking in a certain area and desires something that another person possesses, human nature is to be envious or jealous. Fortunately I never experienced any of this from classmates. Maybe because I had classmates who were just as pretty, talented, smart and confident and secure enough within themselves to not have to be jealous or envious in that way, I don’t know. Anyway somehow, (not exactly sure when) these negative twisted thoughts got planted in my mind as a child and since at that time I did not have the tools to be able to dispel these thoughts that were in my head, they lingered and affected my relationships in a negative way because what began to happen was, I became a people pleaser. I even went so far as to try to downplay my gifts and talents so as not to “outshine” others that I was around.  This is a dangerous thing because you end up losing yourself and allowing people to manipulate you. I knew these thoughts were wrong and of an evil nature. Although I didn’t have the tools to know how to dispel the thoughts, what I did possess was the ability to pray. So I took my concerns to God in prayer and asked Him to deliver me from these thoughts. The things that we cannot do on our own and don’t have the power or knowledge to do, God does intervene in our lives to bring about the desired and necessary changes. And if we ask Him to give us the knowledge and wisdom, He will also do that as well. Fortunately, I was delivered from those horrible thoughts of losing my beauty and finally realized after snapping out of this disillusionment that God blessed me with beauty and talent and it is something I should never be made to be ashamed of or made to feel guilty about expressing. Why in the world would I think that because I possessed beauty, something that is God-given to begin with ‘mind you, that I would be punished for it? This is somewhat similar to the emotional trauma that a woman who has been stripped of her virginity and/or personal security goes through from the awful experience of being raped or taken advantage of by a man. Of course the two experiences can’t be compared, but what I mean by this is that there is a mindset and a little bit of emotional turmoil happening on the inside that strips a person from the freedom to be who they are because another person has taken a piece of that away. When you have people who hate on you for being talented, smart, pretty, handsome…they are basically telling you “I want what you have and you don’t deserve it.” Who are you to be talented, smart, pretty, handsome?

I remember listening to a story on TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) in which Mandisa from American Idol was being interviewed by a christian talk show host regarding her new album after her experience on American Idol. She shared a story about something that she experienced when she was younger that caused her to get to the weight that she was at when she appeared on American Idol. She was raped as a young child and ever since that experience she became an emotional eater because of it. What she didn’t realize until just a few years ago was that there was a connection between her emotional eating and the rape incident. It wasn’t until she sought God about specific things in her life that it was revealed to her that what she was doing by emotional eating was creating a physical shield or wall so to speak by allowing herself to get heavy and overweight. The weight was a protection of some sort. The emotional aspect of the rape experience caused her to subconsciously think that if she was beautiful and attractive, she would be an easy target for men to harm and hurt her. This is where I compare her experience from an emotional aspect to mine. Even something as simple as people hating on you can cause a person to develop emotional issues that subconsciously cause them to want to hide a part of themselves so as not to become the point of attack.

Everybody handles their pain and tragedy in life differently. Some people become prone to alcoholism, some drug addiction, some choose food as their comfort to help them cope with life struggles which also leads to addiction, and some choose to smoke. Food addiction is usually chosen because it is safer than drugs and alcohol and the individual feels that since it doesn’t harm others or affect other people’s lives the way alcohol and drugs do it’s not as bad. But actually food addiction has it’s own harmful consequences that spill over to other areas of our lives and affect the people around us because we are not really taking care of ourselves. And when we are not taking care of ourselves, we are not able to take care of the important people in our lives in a positive way, like our children and give to them or our spouse our best self. It’s amazing the thoughts that our subconscious mind thinks without us even realizing that those thoughts are there. Our mind is so powerful that the human brain can think a different thought every 1.2 seconds. Our mind is thinking 86,400 seconds in a 24 hr day. The human brain has been compared to a computer. Wow!! So, you see why there can be sooo many things going on (on a subconscious level) that you are not even aware of unless you get to the root of the problem and try to figure out why you are displaying symptoms (Ex. drinking excessively, getting high, overeating, shopping excessively and overspending, sexual addictions, etc.). This is the reason why the bible tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. If you could understand the way your brain and mind works and how much of a powerful tool it is, to allow us to think, create, problem solve, etc., you would be able to see, understand, and respect the importance of renewing your mind daily. Let me give an example of this: since our brains are likened to a computer processor, the same way that our computer gets clogged with information and starts to slow down because of broken or fragmented computer files from constant activities like deletion, rewriting of files, or resizing, it requires defragmenting to undo what has been broken which helps the computer processes to speed up and get back to normal speed. We have thousands of thoughts per day. Most of the time these thoughts are a large percentage of the time negative and we do not monitor what we are thinking. Sometimes it’s very hard to monitor your thoughts if you haven’t learned to control and train them. It is possible to train your brain. We have a tendency to think that we have no power or control over our thoughts but that is far from the truth. Thinking is a process that is influenced by outside stimuli and also inside stimuli such as our nervous system and the neurons and hormones that regulate brain activity. Although we get many of our thoughts from many different outside sources, that doesn’t mean that we can’t control how long these thoughts stay inside our heads. We can choose to focus on a thought or choose to eliminate it so that it doesn’t become a part of our inner beliefs or storage system. If you are told you are stupid and accept that thought that was verbalized to you by someone else, (accepting it by choosing to believe it and furthermore focusing and meditating on it continuously day in and day out) then it becomes part of your belief system. You’ve allowed a negative thought to be stored in your subconscious data file to be accessed over and over again thereby causing you to react outwardly or express this negative thought in various ways through your behavior. It’s like a tape or movie being stuck on repeat and playing over and over. How do we react outwardly? Overeating to comfort ourselves when these negative thought reappear in our mind. Drinking excessively even to the point of alcoholism because we have thoughts that we are not even aware of that randomly pop into our heads at any given moment that make us feel emotions like anger, fear, sadness, inferiority, or insignificant. If you were to monitor your thoughts throughout the day, you would be shocked at the number of negative, non-supportive thoughts that run through your mind. And if your hormones are out of whack and out of balance (which influence our thoughts as well) then you really have a larger percent of uncontrollable thoughts that are hard to get a handle on. This spills over into anxiety attacks and other stress related issues. What is a computer monitor for? So that you can see what information is in the CPU or processor. Imagine not having a monitor and just placing your software into the processor to receive data. You wouldn’t have any idea what was being put into it nor have a way to access the information and control any potential negative data that may have been placed on your hard drive.

I would compare the process of defragmenting a computer to reading a book, particularly the Good book or the bible. What defragmenting does is take computer files that are broken or fragmented and fixes the broken files. This is why reading is very important. Not only reading regular books but most importantly the bible which is the knowledge of truth written by man but inspired by God. Hebrews 4:12 states: For the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. When we read, it is like taking software and placing it in a computer’s hard drive for the computer to access and read the data. When we read the word of God it is similar to defragmenting your computer. The word of God will clean up your mind and do the work that needs to be done to correct things that have been stored in your mind. This is why you hear people talk about the mindset. Mindset is a way of thinking, whether wrong or right, that creates a person’s belief system. Not only is reading important and crucial to mental health but receiving positive, life-enriching information through not only your eye-gate, but the ear-gate too, is something that you must monitor as well (the music you listen to and the environment you choose to dwell in – people you choose to hang around).

Computers process information that is stored on a disc or dvd and stores it for future reference to be accessed when needed. If we don’t read and fill our brains (which is our storage device) with positive things, we allow ourselves to be continuously bombarded with negative outside stimuli that gets stored in our subconscious because we neglect to monitor it. Let’s defragment what unintentionally goes into our storage think tanks by reading positive books, listening to positive music and dvds, meditating on positive things, exercising positive self-talk, and renewing our minds through the word of God daily. Lest we, like our computers, get sluggish from all of the junk that clogs up our thinking and potentially spills over into other areas of our lives.

If you are a person who struggles with your weight, maybe you are an emotional eater and don’t know why you can’t “stick to your eating program” and “exercise more will power”, there are reasons behind all of it that you will be able to understand once you can successfully get to the root problem. The eating, smoking, drinking, or whatever other behavior you take part in to try and self-medicate is only a symptom of a deeply rooted problem that needs to be addressed. Let’s not focus on what’s on the outside more than what is on the inside for what’s on the inside is really what matters the most. Take the time to invest in yourself and as you do you will begin to see your health (mental and physical health), your weight, and your life become better and more in balance and in tune with who you were meant to be. Make an investment in YOU!!

Motivational Quote of the Week- 11.29

"You can take action, you can make a difference, and you can respond in a positive, creative way to any situation. You can do whatever must be done to live the life of your dreams. Yet in order to do so you must first believe that you can. In order to do so, you must let go of the limiting beliefs you use to hold yourself back..."
