Backup Plans?

Well I did it to myself. I was sooo ready to hand over some of the work of my dream that I did not work through everything. So here I am two weeks later and the work I wanted the VA to complete is not done.I could harp on this some more but let me put my bad experience into a question for you. What are your backup plans? Are you a service provider, does anyone count on you getting something done for them? Then you need a back up plan. If something happens to your computer, do you know what you would do?*find an internet cafe (do those still exist?)*go to your library and use computer there*go to FedEx Kinkos and use a computer there*use your phone? And if something happens to your computer where is all your information stored for your clients?* is it on an external drive?*can you only get to it from your computer or any computer?*do you have a paper copySo something has happened to your computer and off to the shop you rush. What else do you do?*do you call all your clients and let them know what happened?*do you wait until your clients call you and then tell them what happened?*do you text or email them with what happened, your alternate plan and timeline?*do you follow up with them every 24 hours or wait until they threaten to pull the contract?*do you charge them the full amount if the delay was less than 24 hours? what about 48 hours? What about 5 days?I need a VA to look for a VA. Seriously it takes time. Jimmy Brown had a great e-mail on 10 easy ways to find outsource vendors. So I am at Elance and Freelancer (changed their name from Getafreelancer) and my head is killing me and I am thinking do I want to take all this time to find a person to do this for me or do I want to spend tthe time doing it myself? If I was planning on staying stressed forever then I would do it myself. However I am planning on going back to my family and life while I continue to work at home so I need to find help, if not for this for something else. The next few days will be interesting. So what are your back up plans? Do you have any? Going to make some? Perfect time to make plans and goals for the new year! What are your suggestions?

Does the Design of Your Business Make A Difference?

I found the article by Elisa Leppanen posted in the December 2009 Small Business magazine to be very interesting. Please share your thoughts - Does the Design Make a Difference?Posted in: Small BusinessAs Infusionsoft’s senior graphic designer who puts together all the design you see from our company, I thought it was time to help share a little bit of my expertise with you. A common question entrepreneurs and small businesses ask me is if design matters for their business. Trust me, I pick my battles between copy and design on a healthy basis, but I want to elaborate on why design matters for small business.Take a look around you right now. What do you see? Maybe a computer, product packaging, pens, pictures on the wall, logos, ads and a cell phone? All of these things have been designed. Some better designed than others, but all have had thought put into them whether simple or complex. The first scenario that comes to my mind when thinking about design (or lack thereof) in a small business is restaurants. When I sit down to eat at a Mom-and-Pop restaurant I’m excited for the possibility of finding a diamond in the rough that provides better food and service than your typical franchise. I get a little apprehensive (more so than others as I’m a designer) when they hand me the menu that has obviously been designed in Word. I start thinking this can go one of two ways – either the food is amazing and I won’t care what the menu looks like or it will be obvious to me why they can’t afford to get the menus designed. What does this mean? It means that design makes me form opinions and judgments before I have the means to establish a true judgment on the company. This is true of all businesses. We are all visual people even if we are not all designers. People can make false assumptions about you and your business based on your appearance and branding.Furthermore, a well-designed piece that doesn’t convey the right message is not a well designed piece. In this case, if fewer design gets the correct message across then it is the better choice. Remember you can always test designs before you make a final choice and once you are using something, you can always improve from there.SMALL BUSINESS DESIGN EXERCISE:Go collect your business collateral and take an objective hard look at it again for the first time. (Ideally, take it to someone you know who doesn’t know much about your business.)What does it make you/them think of?How does it make you/them feel? What is the message you/they are getting? Are these thoughts and feelings the ones that you want to portray? If not, consider what you can change to improve the image of your company. Not everyone will have the same impression, but you want to do your best to convey your message through design.Does design matter for small businesses? The short answer is “yes.” Design does matter in small business; good design contributes to the bottom line because people need to understand how to use and interact with a brand.

You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow biggerthan your faith. ~Mary Manin MorrisseyOne thing I see over and over is the evidence of fear inwomen's lives. These are the same women who so want toembrace the idea of women's empowerment. It is possibleto break free, however, as I say empowerment is a choice andso is breaking free from fear. What is fear?Fear is an emotional response to a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in responseto a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. Some psychologists such as John B. Watson, Robert Plutchik, andPaul Ekman have suggested that fear is one of a small set of basicor innate emotions. This set also includes such emotions as joy, sadness, and anger. Fear should be distinguished from the relatedemotional state of anxiety, which typically occurs without anyexternal threat. Additionally, fear is related to the specificbehaviors of escape and avoidance, whereas anxiety is the resultof threats which are perceived to be uncontrollable or unavoidable. From wikipediaAlthough there is good fear which for instance is a responsegiven when we sense danger I am talking about the negative aspect of fear. Here are three reasons that you must break free from fear now!Fear is a Dream KillerLike procrastination, fear is a thief of time and I know all to wellabout this one. There are many opportunities that have been lostbecause of fear. I'm sure you can think of some missed opportunitiesof your own. This will continue to happen unless you break free. The life of your dreams is at stake. You must break free now!Fear is a toxinOur subconscious mind receives messages from our thoughts and actionsand it doesn't know whether it's a temporary or insincere thought. No, our subconscious mind gets to work on whatever we send its way.So in essence fear is a toxin to the subconscious mind.Fear is not a part of God's plan and is not from GodIn the bible we read that God has not given us a spirit offear but He's given us power, love and a sound mind. So ifGod didn't give it to us then we shouldn't have it and ithinders the flow of blessing on our lives.Your goal should never be to focus on totally being free from fear, that would be unbalanced, however, you should learn keys and thenecessary mindset shifts needed to empower you to live a life freefrom the bondage of fear. What will you do if you never break free? You don't have to waitany longer. Join me for a free call Secrets to Breaking free fromfear, overwhelm, procrastination and low self esteem. It happens Friday, January 15 at 11:00 AM PST, 1:00 PM CST,2:00 PM EST. Can't make the call? A recorded call replay willbe available to all registrants. Register for Breaking free here. One defintion of insanity is to do the same thing over and overagain expecting different results. Stop the insanity! Do somethingpositively different. Finally break free from fear.

Have we Lost Jesus in the Feast?

T.D. Jakes message this morning hit me so hard that I said I must share it with you . This is what I got out of it:Each year Jesus and his family traveled to Jerusalem for their annual feast. We now today know it as Christmas. Each year during the fest everyone partied, worshipped and participated in rituals. Now from ages 2-12 Jesus and his family traveled to Jerusalem for this great celebration and feast. Then at the age of 12, (the year that Jewish boys have their coming of age bar mitzvah) Jesus and his family traveled to the Great Feast as usual. However on the way back home after having a wonderful time. Jesus’ family realized that they had lost Jesus….Have we lost Jesus in the feast, are we sing jingle bells instead of silent night? Are we decking the halls, instead fasting and praying? Are we being stressed and depressed because of the gifts we can’t buy or won’t receive?Have we lost Jesus in the Feast? Please Lord help me seek ye your face especially for a time dedicated to your birth to the earth!
