Understanding how not to OVERUSE social media to maximize your business opportunities is the focus of this year’s All Women’s Social Media Summit.

A six-member female panel will share tips on how to generate revenue and capitalize on networking opportunities.  BAMedia is hosting the third annual event.  Organizer Beverly Mahone says each woman brings a tremendous amount of experience to the table which will be extremely beneficial to the audience.  “These are the women who take social media to another level.  They’ve learned how to navigate their way and master their craft through sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare.  And they do it without being overwhelmed at the end of the day or week."10744067063?profile=original

Kelly Duffort, a web strategist, is one of the panelists for this year’s Event.  As the Principal and Founder of  KD Web Strategies, a consulting firm that advises companies how to take their overall web presence (e.g., websites, blogs, social media profiles) to the next level.  Kelly says, “Whether you love it or hate it and whether you understand it or avoid it, social media is changing the way people communicate – personally and professionally. If you use social media wisely to promote your business, you will be amazed at the connections it enables you to make and the doors it opens for you.”

This year’s social media summit will be held at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh, NC.  Early Bird Registration is currently underway.  The first ten women to register will receive a free 30-minute consultation with a member of the panel, preferred seating at the Summit and Luncheon, business card info in the Program Book and an opportunity to promote your business at the Summit.

Money, Money, Money ! Today we are going to talk about cost cutting do's & don'ts and when enough is enough. I know I have previously said that you can achieve many ideas on any budget, but let's be realistic.
If you want steak but can only afford Ramen noodles, then something has gotta give! It's not always about how much money you have it's about what ways can stretch your dollar. When you begin to plan your event you must decide what is important to you. Some areas can be cut or eliminated all together to achieve your desired results. You must decide how you want your event to appear, I will say that again, you MUST decide how you want you event to appear. It's okay to have a backyard BBQ if that is what you want, but you do not want your elegant wedding to come off looking like a backyard BBQ...get it?
I will discuss a few ways to cut costs...think about this...you want STEAK but you can only afford RAMEN NOODLES, so what do you do? Well this one is easy....you can have steak but you just won't be able to feed as many people, so the first piece of advice I offer is to trim your guest list. Do you really need 300 of your closet friends? If you insist on having 300 people you have a choice to make...you can serve Ramen Noodles or serve 300 people a very very very small toothpick sized portion of steak. What is more important to you?
Another area where many people attempt to cut costs is the family and friend "hook-up", now this is tricky. Most people have good intentions when they offer to provide a good or service for you, but what YOU the planner must consider is that most times you get what you pay for. FREE is FREE , are you willing to accept the level of service that your cousin will provide just because it is free? I know that we all have people in our lives that can do something really well and that will do it for you at a low cost, but what I advise in this situation is that you still treat it somewhat like a business transaction. You have to be clear on what you are looking for and what you expect, and the provider has to be clear about what they can provide.
I'm a huge advocate of Do It Yourself, but this only works if you know what you are doing! Before you take on any tasks, learn how to do it! Practice, study and then try it out. You don't want to just assume you can make a wedding cake because it seems easy enough. There are plenty of place you can go to learn how to do things that will save you money. The internet is a valuable tool...but again I say beware...try it out before the day of your event.
I will share more on this topic later, but for today I leave you with this.. when you plan your event be REALISTIC about your WANTS and your FINANCES and your RESOURCES, it's easier to plan when you know exactly what you have available to utilize.

Let's get this party started!

Any great party begins with a simple thought!

It’s your party and you can cry if you want to! As a matter of fact you can do whatever you likeWhen planning an event the first thing that I suggest is that the planner considers the personality of the guest of honor. The best parties incorporate personality and flair. Think about what you like, things you like to do, your favorite colors, your favorite past time activities, things that make you happy and smile. There are some staples with most any event, from the backyard party for the one year old to the grandest wedding the world has ever seen. As you start your planning process there are many things to consider such as venues, budgets, menus, entertainment and decorations to name a few.

As a party planner I begin my process with a brainstorm. I just gather a pen and paper and write. I write whatever comes to mind when I think of my party. Don’t worry about any rhyme, reason or budget just write down what you like, you can narrow the list later. You will be surprised to find out that many ideas can be achieved on any budget, so don’t be afraid to dream big. If you have enough random ideas then you should have a good foundation to start with.

After you are done with your brainstorming, you should look back over your thoughts to begin to solidify your concept. At this point I suggest you get a notebook with folders and some paper clips, so you can easily keep all your information together. At this phase you should select at least the basic theme/tone of the event: will it be fun and whimsical, elegant, or a mixture of both, remember it’s your party you can do what you want! Some great themes to build upon are: colors, ages, movies, activities and scenery.

Now you are ready to start planning.

The Entrepreneurs Prayer

http://www.tracilynnjewelry.net/sheritamack

As I awaken with the gift of yet another day and prepare for the tasks at hand, Ioffer up this most ardent prayer:

I pray for continued clarity of purpose so that I may hold my vision steady andkeep my focus on the needs and success of others, which in turn shall bring memy success.

I pray for the wisdom to expect abundance in my life, that it surrounds me and isavailable for the taking and to be shameless and unapologetic upon its receipt, for I deserve abundance.

I pray for a cheerful countenance, be it clear or cloudy skies and that I mayradiate and infect others with my positive attitude.

I pray for the trust of others that they may recognize my sincerity and trueintentions so that we may move forward together.

I pray for the strength to fend off adversity and use my desire and determinationas both weapon and shield.

I pray for the courage to carry forth my convictions during the battle ofbusiness and to resist temptation to a quicker monetary result when such temptationcompromises these things for which I stand.

I pray that I may be used as a lightning rod to collect the amazing ideasalready present in the universe and when blessed with such inspiration, that Imay be able to apply my talents and abilities to turn the power of thought intomeasurable advancement of my goals.

I pray to retain my childhood wonder so that I can recognize and revel in thesmall miracles of each day that others may miss.

I pray for an infinite supply of self-confidence for it alone fortifies faith, strengthens my resolve and conquers the largest enemy I will ever face - fear.

I pray for a compassionate spirit and the patience to offer those who seek myadvice and my help, my full and undivided attention.

I pray for good health and a feeling of well being, and the continued desire toimprove those areas of my physical life I may be neglecting in the name of myspiritual and entrepreneurial advancement.

I pray that today is a day of excellence and at its conclusion I can acknowledgeand be grateful for the forward motion I have made and the growth I haveexperienced.

I pray most of all for the understanding and support of those closest to myheart, my family, that they will equate what may seem like endless hours ofapparent pre-occupation with affairs of business to what is at the very core ofmy being, that which drives me, for once I achieve what I have set out in itsfullest, I will become that more complete being I strive to be.

It is for these things that I pray, for I am an entrepreneur.

I pray in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen

Networking

African Entrepreneurs Network understands that all businesses are not created equal. Therefore, we created a network designed to help all level of businesses. Small businesses in general do require exposure in order to be successful. Companies pay a lot of money to get in front of millions of consumers because they recognize that marketing is required in order to generate revenue. Television commercials account for most of the advertising of goods and services, and they have proven to be very successful. Magazines, likewise, are successful in their own rights; they also have a share in the market of advertising. The more popular the magazine, the more the likelihood for a certain ad to be properly circulated. Now there is the Internet, the information super highway, where traffic is mind boggling. What better medium for one to advertise and reach a very large percentage of the population. Then, there is also the cost of an ad. Advertising can be expensive if you advertise on television and the popular magazines. However, the Internet can also give you the same exposure if you advertise in the right forum. African Entrepreneurs Network encourages its members to advertise because it works. Anyone who wants to be successful in business is going to require some exposure. The network and its members also create a community of business owners who share ideas and also advertise their businesses at low cost. There is referral marketing within the community and the members support one another's business. African Entrepreneurs Network has created a "Shopping Mall" of businesses that is visited and supported by the members of the network.Congratulations to all who have taken the initial step of business ownership, and is presently sitting in the driver's seat. Now is the time to put on your navigation system to direct you to your destination. With that we welcome you to the African Entrepreneurs Network where your small business ownership dreams will be realized with the assistance of our advisors, counselors, and our network members.Ola AkinsanyaCEO and Founder of African Entrepreneurs Networkhttp://africanceos.ning.comhttp://africanentrepreneur.net

You can exchange vows in a romantic setting under the stars, or by an amazing ocean scene. The MenuExplore booking top culinary chefs that will prepare a delightful, succulent variety of organic foods that will incorporate all aspects of fine green dining, from farm raised entrees, to bio-degradable dinning décor. The DÉCORSpeaking of décor not only can you find caterers that incorporate bio-degradable items in their service; you will find that there are also many companies that provide recycled event décor items. The INVITATIONA great option for invitations for the perfect Green Themed wedding will consist of recycled paper and to take it one step further you can have them printed with biodegradable corn-based ink or an even better and more modern day option is to send a sophisticated and exquisitely designed Electronic Invitations (e-vites).The GIFTS/FAVORSThink outside of the box and get creative by giving your guest an Wedding Day Eco-Bag filled with a variety of eco-friendly gifts like luxury Eco-Spa items, Personalized Organic Tea bags, and Elegantly Engraved Mini-Pots with a packet of Plan Seeds to symbolize the seed of love planted on the day of your special union. The TRANSPORTATIONEvery bridal party wants to be transported in luxury and style. With today’s Automotive Companies taking a conscious approach to preserving our environment and producing a large number of fuel efficient Hybrid vehicles, they have made it a point to remember the most important vehicle for a bride and groom, the limousine. Believe it or not there are many companies that provide luxury hybrid limousines as well as luxury cars for the wedding party. The RINGSOf all the pieces of jewelry a woman will own in her life, her wedding ring is the most important and holds the most meaning. Consider a jeweler that sells diamonds that are certified conflict-free. You should also consider bands that are created with recycled metals. I suggest you visit Brilliant Earth at www.brilliantearth.com; they are the leading provider in conflict-free diamond jewelry. Brilliant Earth also donates dedicates 5% of their profits to local communities that are affected by the diamond industry. The most important - The DRESSChoosing that perfect wedding gown is one of the most emotional and most important purchases of woman’s life. Choose a wedding gown that is made from natural fibers as well as your wedding party. My last recommendation is The WEDDING COORDINATOR/PLANNERIn order to fully design and plan the perfect reality of your Wedding day Dreams and also incorporate the fundamentals of an environmentally safe wedding, I suggest that you enlist the services of a professional Wedding Coordinator to ensure that your wedding is not just eco-friendly but truly represents the fantasy that you have always dreamed of for your special day.888.327.1794Copyright © 2008 1 Creative Concept Unlimited, Inc. Ready for the NEW in 2009

Networking is on the top of my list for 2009. I have vowed to come out of my shell socially and meet and greet in person in an attempt to get the message out there and balance the networking done via the internet by interacting and networking in-state(s) as well.I am looking forward to speaking engagements across the US in the very near future. I enjoy teaching women how to walk in their truth, to love and accept themselves and to fulfill their purpose.I am a self-esteem advocate, a poet, writer and speaker- an educator of divine truths, bringing healing naturally by teaching application of biblical principles and helping women come to a place of wholeness. I also enjoy speaking at different events as a poet specializing in personalized poetry for all occasions. I love expressing others in a way that is beautiful and powerful. Poetry transcends boundaries, bridging gaps, bringing people together in a way like I've never seen. A lyric that comes from the heart always does and it is an honor to be the vessel used to do that. Please feel free to recommend me in any of the arenas I've mentioned and if you've not, please check out the websites to get a better feel for the woman behind Women of Destiny, LLC ~ "Purpose-Minded to Promise." Networking with Your Key Target Audience

What I’ve learnt over the years is that networking the traditional way is one of the non profitable ways of growing a business. So why do people go to networking events? I guess it’s to get more clients, but that’s not what’s actually happening is it?I’m not saying networking is a bad thing but the way we do our networking is. Here are effective ways to massively increase your networking results WITHOUT ever having to waste your time at networking events! There is a lot of information out there that talks about how to network effectively. They talk about creating a powerful elevation speech, listening to potential clients and doing all the right things but they don’t mentioning the real reason why most people fail to gain anything worthwhile from their networking efforts! Why networking events hasn’t work for meMost of the networking events I go to like the chamber of commerce is full of people that are not really interested in my products and services, they are there to secure deals for themselves, which makes it a waste of time and money for me. There are a few qualified, potential clients and LOTS of competitors! You need to network where there is no competition. As a service professional, we find ourselves sharing the networking room with numerous competitors. All these competitors are there to get the same limited business that we are there for. Most of the peoples at networking events are all sellers not buyersBig companies tend to send their sales staff to networking events to help them win more business. Most of these people are not the decision makers and those that are decision makers are there to make money not to spend it. So the really potential clients are limited.I have also noticed over the past few years that these networking events are full of the same people, just a handful of them are new and that doesn’t mean that these new people are still not my direct competitors.Networking events can cost you a lot of money. You will not know how much you have wasted until you take the cost of the annual membership and ADD the cost of attending the event to the cost of your time maybe 2 hours or more to the hour you spend traveling to figure out the real value. What would €4,000 investment in a direct mail campaign win you in new clients? I just sent out 50 letters that cost me €60.47 to potential accountant that brought in a total of €60,990. Taking about investment huh.How to Network Effectively and Get ResultsI have been able to work well with accountants over the years, so I make it a priority to be where they are. I subscribed to a free Accountant ezines or magazines. These ezines or magazine always list where the next local events are held, so I don’t miss any networking event. I go there on a regular basis. When I network with my ideal clients, I tend to lookout for ways I can help solve their problems. Most of the time, they are there just to discuss problems they are facing in their businesses. In this kind of setting I know that I have access to my ideal clients with no competition. So whenever I give a solution to a well known problem, I get the attention. So when these prospective clients find out that I am there to learn more about their challenges; so that I can serve them better, they want to discuss their issues with me. People in these networking events are not there to sell. They are there to listen - making them perfect for anyone, like myself, with a valuable message. You could use this approach with just about any industry or profession. So if you are going to go to any networking event, be where there are no competitors and where the event is filled with ideal, prospective clients.~ Joyce OladipoJoyce Oladipo, The Business Growth & Marketing Mentor, is creator of the Profit Building system, the proven step-by-step program that shows you exactly how to grow your business fast without spending extra money on marketing. The Big Gyrl Now, entry #1

Ladies I need to share this with you. That's what blogs are for right? Well, I recently attended the Delaware Black Awards a couple of weeks ago. I am proud to say that Big Gyrl Clothing was a finalist for the Best Retailer Award! Unfortunately we did not win, but we are all winners. Well, according to previous emails sent from DelawareBlack.com, it was going to be an elegant affair so I immediately starting thinking about a fabulous dress to make. Life becomes extremely hectic and busy in an instant and I did not get a chance to make my dress until 3am the day of. I finished the dress at 10am Friday, ran errands like a maniac, and by 6pm, was ready to attend the event. The dress is chocolate brown on the bottom and mint green on the top. There is gold detailing on the bottom of the dress with mint green and chocolate straps on top. The neckline was a braid of mint green and chocolate material. The dress was sleeveless with a train in the back. I wore my open toed gold shoes with an amber stone in the middle. They were strapped around the ankle. The event was held at the Grand Opera House which is a very popular place for comedy shows, concerts, orchestras, and other events. So my man and I finally arrived at the event. While we waiting in line I looked around excited seeing who was there and checking out other dresses. The only thing i saw were suits, business suits, jeans, a couple of plain garments, nothing elegant. Oh well, I always stand out no matter where I go, its just a positive nature and disposition that I have and carry with me, especially at a networking event. What I did not like were elevator eyes looking back at me. I will smile at everyone but most women would look like 'umph'. I am familiar with it, I have always and presently receive the Umph look everyday, but what bothers me is that 1- you are a grown a** woman looking at me like that because I have a beautiful and flattering gown on and you decided to where something casual, who's fault is that. 2- Do not hate on the big gyrl of the room and whisper and laugh when you cannot say anything to my face, who is the weak one? 3- We live in a country now that has a black president and you want to keep a petty mentality like this, come on, are you serious? I tell you ladies of BBC and I hope that I am not talking about anyone here and I pray that you do not act the same way as some of the ladies at the event was. Don't hate on the woman doing her thing. I am a fashion designer, I take risks in business, life, love, and clothing, I am not afraid of wearing anything and do not have a care in the world who talks about me. Until you live for yourself, you are not living at all. For us to overcome the major obstacles of racism, glass ceilings, etc. we must remove the hatred amongst each other. Who was standing there crying at Barack Obama's acceptance speech, Jesse Jackson. Did you know that he was on live television earlier this year saying he wanted to cut barack's testicles off? But yet despite all of this, he was overjoyed that obama won, he stood there crying tears of joy, not hatred and it takes a real man like obama to have someone who said such a thing to be there. I go through the same 'umph' situations at work but eventually the same chicks that talk all that mess, come around and ask where did I get this from, and they learn to respect me and my business. The awards night was wonderful and I met some great contacts for business. I did receive compliments on my dress as well, met some future models, and politic'd with the guys. All in all, with or without creating enemies, I had a great time. This is the first entry of the big gyrl now blog series where I will speak of various big gyrl comedies, tragedies, and life issues and successes. Hope you enjoyed this and if you are a hater or umph girl, don't you think its time you made a change? Maybe if you focused your energy on yourself instead of someone else, you will be halfway close to where they are.Keep motivated and have a fashion fabulous week!S
