Success (199)

Motivational quotes to inspire you.

"There is an art to living well, a meaning for our lives. The careers we choose are our pathways to mastery. They are to amplify our capabilities and values, our character and courage. Answering three questions continually, no matter our age or station, will keep us on a course of productivity, integrity and fulfillment: Who am I? Where am I going? Why am I going there?"

"...God wants [you] to have [your] reward. Prepare to claim it. Have a vision for yourself and others far beyond the present reality. Declare it and work toward it."

Are You Shooting Yourself In The Foot?

Have you ever been at a networking function talking to someone when during the conversation you felt very self-conscious trying to say the right thing? Were you afraid that maybe if you said the wrong thing the person might not find you likable, and therefore not want to do business with you?

If you have, I am about to tell you why you should not worry about it. I want to share with you the reason why being careful about what we say works against us in the networking environment.

Our goal in business networking should be to establish new relationships and through the process of follow-up develop them over time. As with any relationship, being honest plays a very important role in that development.

When we meet someone for the first time, we want to make a good impression. Often we put on our "party face" so that we do. This can often cause us problems that we do not expect. One problem is that when we try to appear to be something that we really do not feel inside of us, we often have a fear that we are going to be "discovered". This fear causes us to feel uncomfortable about the situation and though we may be smiling, we are really cringing inside :-)

Most people worry that if they just be who they are, that no one can accept them. I argue that if we do not just be ourselves, sooner or later who we really are will slip out and then we will have to deal with the consequences of being discovered. This then leads to a feeling of distrust between people.

Have you ever been in a relationship with a person of the opposite sex where you did not tell them something important early on and later had to reveal it or even worse it was revealed by accident? It leads for difficult times after that and a lot of shuffling and apologizing.

In my opinion, it is better to risk being who I am up front. To let people know exactly how I feel. People, for the most part, have a forgiving nature. They actually want to forgive. If you make a mistake and say something that can be potentially embarrassing, you can always apologize for it and be forgiven. But if you say something that is not necessarily true and are discovered later, your credibility may be permanently damaged.

If you go into a networking environment prepared to be relaxed and genuine, you will find that it is a lot more fun to be there. If you have a plan of action to really get to know people, you will be much more productive in a shorter amount of time. People will feel comfortable talking to you and you to them. In an environment of truth, more people will want to do business with you and to be around you.

Authentic enthusiasm is contagious. You will always appear to be more attractive when you are excited about what you are doing. When you are not worried about making mistakes, you will appear to be happier. Being happy about the situation will help you to smile more, and the smiling face is a natural human attractor.

So next time you attend a networking function, just be yourself. Your results will improve and you will feel better when you leave to go home. Over time, the difference will be measurable in more ways than just your income. You will find that you have more real good friends than you had ever imagined possible. When it comes time for the referral, your real good friend will remember you because friends really do refer friends.

Talk to ya soon! :-)

Cheers,

Charlotte Howard

1. Take 100% Responsibility for Your Life – In a society where people blame everything from their parents to the government for failure, those who don’t buy into this mentality or succumb to the “victim” thinking succeed. To blame something or somebody outside yourself is saying they have control of your life and not you. Someone else’s opinion of you doesn’t have to become your reality.

2. Live Your Life On Purpose - What separates motivational thinkers from the unsuccessful is that they believe they’re doing what they were put here to do. The difference between this and just living, is that the latter is just getting through the week with the least problems. But when you live your life on purpose, your main concern is doing the job right. For the entrepreneur this means finding a cause you believe in and building your business around it.

3. Be Willing to Pay the Price - Be willing to pay the price for your dreams. Wanting a big house, a luxury car, and a million dollars in the bank is all very nice, and everyone wants these things – but are you willing to pay the price to get them? This is one of the major differences between the successful and unsuccessful.

4.Stay Focused – Every day we’re bombarded with hundreds of tasks, phone calls, messages, and everyone competing for our time. Focusing requires giving up something in the present because you are investing your time in something that will pay off big-time down the road. Jack Canfield and Mark Hanson were turned by 30 publishers when they submitted the first “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book. Instead of giving up, they stayed focused on their goal and did four or five interviews per day for radio, TV, and newspapers, for five days a week for a whole year. Eventually, a small publisher decided to take a chance, and of course now it’s a best-seller that spawned an entire series that have sold more than 10 million copies.

5.Become An Expert in Your Field - One striking factor all successful people have in common is how seriously they take their profession. They strive to be the best at what they do, and do almost anything to improve. If someone followed you around all day with a video camera at your business, would it be a tape you’d be proud of or embarrassed about? Make the decision today to work at being the best in your field. How? By finding out what the “best” in your field are doing, and do what they do.

6.Write Out a Plan for Achieving Your Goals - Write out an action plan/map for how you’re going to achieve your goals. Trying to reach your goals without a plan is like trying to drive from South Carolina to Chicago without a map. A goal that isn’t written down is merely a wish or fantasy.

7.Never Give Up - Never, never, never give up. When you’re fully committed to achieving your goal, giving up is not an option. You must be willing do whatever it takes to make it happen. The power of perseverance is an awesome force. As someone once said, “inch by inch it’s a cinch”. Think of the lowly inchworm – if it pondered the length of the trip from start to finish before it started, it probably would never move. To a worm’s point-of-view, the garden path must look like a trip to Mars. Never give up! Keep on going like the Energizer bunny, and pretty soon you’re there.

8. Don’t Delay - Nobody knows how much time they have left to accomplish their dreams, and we must remember that we don’t have forever. The clock is ticking, and sooner or later your number comes up and you’re gone. Successful achievers know this too, but they don’t view it as a “negative”. Achievers use it to “spur them on”. They go after what they want as energetically and as passionately as possible, for as long as they have.

I had a friend who used to say, “Today is a check – cash it! Yesterday is an I.O.U. – forget it! Tomorrow is a promissory note, don’t bank on it!” I think that’s a pretty good summation of life, so go out there and cash in on that “today” check.

Cheers,

"The Hard Knock Life of an Entrepeneur" Part 2

“Pay Yourself First”

We’ve all heard this one before. The bottom line is, the financial aspect of running your business is always extremely challenging, especially since “you have to spend money to make money”. However, as
the owner of the business, you are responsible for making some very
tough decisions. You have to choose between hiring employees to work for
you to help run the business, or bearing a lot of the burden yourself.
Not to mention, you have to determine what is the most budget-friendly
and effective way to market your business to your customers.

In this article, I’d like to speak directly to all of the small business owners out there. Listen carefully, it is imperative that you pay yourself first. As you know, when there is extreme financial pressure on any
business, large or small, the first place that you cut back is payroll,
since that tends to be the largest expense for most businesses. So, I
would argue that as business owners, we should be a little more
conservative to begin with when hiring, and then maybe we won’t have to
do dramatic cutbacks down the line.

You’d be surprised how many business owners are paying employees to work for them, but aren’t earning a reasonable salary themselves. This is a big problem! If you’re not earning a reasonable salary from your
small business (only you can decide what’s reasonable), you definitely
should not be paying employees. This is a hard pill to swallow for many
small business owners, but it is a reality that is important to come to
terms with.

The owner of any small business works tirelessly to operate the business, resolve conflicts, grow the business, manage day-to-day operations, etc. They are also responsible for the vision of the
business, keeping it fresh, current, competitive, and ahead of the
trends. If you, the business owner, are bogged down with overwhelming
financial stress, how can you grow your business? How can you build
relationships with your clients, if you can barely pay your bills? How
can you realize your dreams, if your dream has become a nightmare?

I don’t say all of this to scare you, but to empower you. Learn to make the tough, right decisions in the beginning, in order to avoid the many unnecessary obstacles that can arise down the line.

Stay tuned for the next installment of this series where I will discuss how social media can save your business…Also let me know if there are any specific topics you’d like to see me write about within
this series.

"The Hard Knock Life of an Entrepeneur" Part 1

To say that there’s a “learning curve” when starting your own business is a true understatement. And sometimes, no matter how manybooks you’ve read, seminars you’ve attended, or coaching you’vereceived, there are still many lessons that you will simply have tolearn along the way.

Since starting my business back in 2007, I have learned many tough, yet important lessons that can only truly be learned through experience. These lessons learned have helped me to become much wiser and moresuccessful today, and I’d like to share them with you. This is part 1 ofa 3-Part series that will discuss the “hard knock life” of anentrepeneur/business owner, and share some useful insight and advicejust for you.

Here are the top 3 lessons I’ve learned as a business owner:

1) Don’t Chase Money, Build Relationships.
This may sound like a no-brainer, but in fact, when you’re starting out, you’re spending a lot of money on advertising, operational expenses, etc. So you have business expenses that have to be covered, and if yourclients aren’t covering them, that leaves you to handle it on your own,on top of your own personal expenses. This reality is one of the majorreasons why most businesses fail within the first 3-5 years. That beingsaid, no one wants to do business with someone that they don’t trust, orwhom they feel is simply after their money, and not interested insolving whatever problem they have, or providing them with greatservice. Additionally, by building a relationship with your clients, they turn from one-time clients, to long-term clients (which of courseleads to increased income for your business over time). Not to mention, happy clients tell their friends, family, and colleagues about yourbusiness, which helps to build a successful and reputable business foryou in the long run.

2) Don’t Chase Money, but Don’t Give Your Services Away either- Although it’s great to offer promotions, specialdiscounts, etc. for your services or products from time to time, it isalso important to keep things in perspective. Sometimes when you’restarting out you think that by lowering your prices you will ultimatelywin, because this will make your customers happy. But this poses twoproblems. One is that, if you don’t have a financial model in place foryour business that will allow it to survive and thrive over time, youare doing your clients a disservice, because your business won’t bearound long enough to help them. Secondly, people tend to place value onthings based on how much they cost. So, if you provide a specializedproduct or service, then your rates should reflect that. When youprovide superb service/products for your clients, they will be happy topay your rate, and appreciate it all the more. Do keep in mind that yourrates/prices should be within reason according to the type ofproduct/service you provide. However, you should never undervalue yourproduct/services in hopes of satisfying your customers, at your expense. This leads me to lesson #3…

3) You can’t please all of the people all of the time. The reality of business is this, there are two types ofclients/customers; a) the ones you can please, and b) the ones youcan’t. Your focus should be on doing your best to provide usefulresources to your clients, offer excellent customer service, conflictresolution, and a pleasant attitude. Give your best to your clients, andthat’s the end of it. Don’t waste energy on those who feel that yourbest isn’t good enough, because chances are, no matter what you do, youwon’t be able to please them. So, do your best, handle your businesswith honesty and integrity, treat your clients with respect andconsideration, and the rest is out of your hands.

Stay tuned for the next installment of this series…Also let me know if there are any specific topics you’d like to see me write about withinthis series. I look forward to your suggestions and comments.

"5 Deadly Thoughts on the Road to Success"

Nearthe end of ‘09, I partnered up with C.Thomas Gambrell, of C.ThomasSuccess Coaching, to host a teleseminar entitled, “Dance Your Way IntoBusiness Success”. Two of the major components that we discussed, as itrelates to being successful, were the ideas that, “You Are Your BigBreak”, and “You Must Face Your Fears”. If there’s one thing that manyof us have learned in the current economy it’s that, waiting for someone else to make yousuccessful or to create opportunities for you, is a complete waste oftime, and will only prevent you from reachingyour goals and dreams.

I believe that when it comes to your life, your career, or your business, you can not afford to be passive, or a bystander, and expectothers to recognize your talents and create the blueprint for you thatlead to success and prosperity. Only You can do this.

Here are 5 Deadly Thoughts on the Road to Success:

1) There just aren’t any opportunities out there.
2) I don’t have the money.
3) What if I fail?
4) No one’s ever done it before.
5) I don’t even know where to start.

Here are my responses to these statements:

1) “There just aren’t any opportunities out there.” – Yes, there are. If you feelthis way, you probably need to do more research, and even enlist theassistance of someone else to help you. If the opportunity isn’t there, then that’s even better! That means that you can be an innovator, andcreate something completely new!

2) “I don’t have the money.” – With the internet, do-it-yourself websites, and the explosion socialmedia, which is totally free, you don’t necessarily need a ton of moneyto get started. Now granted, I don’t recommend starting a business withno capital, but, don’t let that minor obstacle stop you. Save up, getcreative, start small, and go from there.

3) “What if I fail?” - There’s a good chance that you will. Let me rephrase that. There’s somethingcalled a “learning curve” in business, which is basically a fancy way ofsaying, “I failed a bunch of times along the way, and learned from mymistakes.” Remember, failure is not permanent. It is part of a learningprocess. There’s ALWAYS a way to bounce back from failure, and the mainway is, get up and try it again (a little differently).

4) “No one’s ever done it before.” – This is a no-brainer! Obviously, that means that there’s a greatopportunity for you to do something really special. And guess what, since you have no competition, you have a really great advantage! Whatare you waiting for? Do a little market research to find out if peoplewould be interested in your idea, and discover if it’s a viable conceptor not.

5) “I don’t even know where to start.” Ok, this is a tough one (Not!), so let me help you…grab a piece ofpaper, and a pen, or better yet, go to your computer, and put on paperwhat your ideas are. That’s how you start! After that, ask yourself theWho, What, Where, Why, and How about your idea; Who would be interestedin this product/service? What will it be used for? Where will people goto access this product/service? Why would potential clients beinterested in this product/service? How will I market it to my target audience?

See, how easy that was? Now you’re on your way! I would also recommend doing some soul-searching to determine themotivation behind your particular idea. Is it something that you’repassionate about? Are you good at it? Do you have a lot of knowledgeabout that particular industry? Do you think it’s a way to make somefast cash? Are you willing sacrifice and deal with the stress, instability, and pressure that you may have to face along the way?

Answer these questions, and don’t be afraid! Step out on faith, and walk in your purpose. Anything less would notonly be sad, but boring!

In a recent call "5 simple secrets to begin living your delicious life"
I shared this as one of the secrets. There are 4 plus additional secrets
that were shared and are essential to women's life empowerment
endeavors and living a delicious life!

Secret # 2 was to get your life in good shape.

You must make sure your life is in good shape, although I didn't
go into detail on the call about Total Wellness this is also
very, very important.

Areas included under this secret were:
Life balance
During the Breakthrough mentoring and coaching program each participant
will have a chance to reflect on this by utilizing one of the popular
assessments of the industry. This is not something that is locked in
to the 12 week period , however, it will give you another accountability
measure continuing beyond the 12 week period. One of the areas of thistool includes Physical environment and one of the sentences states mypersonal
files and papers are neatly filed away and if you’re good here you would
check it if not you don’t – At the end there’s a scoring system and there
is an ideal score that you want.

Another area is Health and emotional balance- And one of the sentences
in this area reads.... I very seldom use chocolate, coffee, colas, tea
less than 3 times per week total. We will also use a tool that will be
very instrumental in taking a look at your life balance, giving you a
measuring stick to allow for improvement. You see many times we major
on the minors and wonder why we aren’t achieving the results we so desire.

Strong Divine Connection
We need to feed our soul, body and our spirit and it is imperative
that you have a strong divine connection which for me and others on
this call is a God our Father and you must be committed to your
spiritual authority which would be God, your pastor and those of
you that are married your husbands. It’s about order and when you have order you will live a delicious life!

This was an excerpt from 5 simple secrets to begin living a delicious life.
I share so much more on the call. Here is my gift to you for a limited time.
You can go here to secure your own download of this power-packed

Maplewood, NJ February 2010-On Tuesday February 9, 2010 Ms. Boss Academy whichis a collaboration between Ms. Boss International and My SistahzKeeper held a small ceremony for Zoey Wiggins who was the first personto graduate from the pilot entrepreneurship program. Zoey attends MySistahz Keeper in Jersey
City, New Jersey through the AWEP/CWEP program for women who are onpublic assistance. There were 13other women who also attended the program and who were enrolled in Ms.Boss Academy, but only Zoeycompleted the 8 week business start-up program. Thewomen who are also on public assistance dropped out of theentrepreneurship program for a variety of reasons. The program walkedZoey through the basics of starting a business right up to creating apresence on the Internet bysetting up a website.

By some standards some may view the entrepreneurship program as a failure because only oneperson graduated, but to Audrey Bell-Kearney who is the CEO of Ms. Boss International andthe creator of the Ms. Boss Academy program she views that one graduateas a success. She states that you have to understand the population thatyou are working with. The goal here is tohelp these women learn how to become self-sufficient so that publicassistance is no longer needed. By helping one person learn how to startand run their own business successfully, this will open updoors of employment for others. Small businesses fuel the economy andright not that economy needs some fuel with thenational unemployment rate around 10%. Kiwan Fitch who is the ExecutiveDirector of My Sistahz Keeper has gone a step further by turning one ofthe office spaces inside the My SistahzKeepers headquarters into a small business incubator for the graduatesof Ms.Boss Academy. Kiwan who is one of the co-founders of My Sistahz Keeper anon-profit organization understandsthat small businesses need to be nurtured so that they can grow. This iswhyshe has opened up another door for these women offering them the spaceso that they can stay connectedto positive people who have goals and dreams that they want to see cometrue. To keep the graduates connected there will be ongoing mentoringfrom Audrey and also from Stephanie Wilson who is theProgram Director at My Sistahz Keeper. Zoey who has only been anentrepreneur for about two months already understandfrom going through the Ms. Boss Academy program how important mentorsare that is why she has stepped up to be amentor with GEN (Gurls Empowerment Network) another program offered byMySistazh Keeper for teenage girls.

The next Ms. Boss Academy is scheduled to start on March 2, 2010. Audrey who created thecurriculum andfacilitates the program hopes that more women take advantage of theprogram this time, but if they don’t as long as we can graduate at leastone the program is still a success.

To find out more aboutthe Ms. Boss Academy contact Audrey at 888-229-1238 or email her at Audrey@msboss.net. JUNIQUES MULTI CULTURAL CONNECTIONS ( WWW.JUSMCC.COM) IS PLEASED TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION.Yes it can done , Yes you can do this also!!We all have adversities. This young man succeed IN SPITE OF. You can too!!!Derrius won over $1 million in scholarships!Class of 2009 member Derrius Quarles was offered $755,000 in scholarships from nearly a dozen colleges, which he turned down. He accepted $355,000 additional offers and will attend Morehouse College this Fall. Morehouse College, Class of 2013 is the graduationCongratulations Derrius! Continue to make Kenwood Academy proud as you pursue your career in medicine
He recieved 1 Million Dollars in Scholarhip
Former foster child in Chicago now a million-dollar scholarstephanie bancheroBy Stephanie Banchero-- Derrius Quarles leans back in his seat and methodically debates Aristotle's theory of truth during freshman honors English class at Morehouse College. He strides across campus in a navy blue tailored suit and a bold red sweater handing out business cards that boast "Student/Entrepreneur/Leader."But behind the 19-year-old's dauntless appearance is a past that few on campus know. When Quarles was 5, the state took him away from his mother. He spent his childhood bouncing from home to home before ending up on his own at 17 in an apartment on Chicago's South Side. His arrival at a prestigious, historically African-American college -- with more than $1 million in scholarship offers -- is a story of inspiration and anguish. And it's a testament to his determination to prove that he is better than his beginnings."You can't go around thinking you are inferior just because you didn't have parents," he says. "For me, it's about knowing where you are from and accepting it, but more important, knowing where you are going."Despite his polished veneer, sometimes there are glimpses into a more complicated young man.In sociology class, when students discuss their childhood dependence on parents, the usually verbose Quarles withdraws from the lively discussion and doodles in a notebook. When a tutoring coordinator asks students about the "caring adults" in their lives, Quarles mumbles something about an aunt.He rarely talks about his childhood, but when pushed, the words tumble out."I've had people tell me that I ain't never gonna be s---. That's not a scratch, that cuts deep," he says. "After so many people put me down, I said, 'I'm gonna show you.' "Quarles made good on that promise when he won more than $1 million in scholarship offers, including a full ride at Morehouse. A graduate of Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago, he is one of about a dozen students nationwide to garner such a bounty, according to Mark Kantrowitz, who runs the Web site Finaid, which tracks college aid.He won full scholarships to five universities, the Gates Millennium Scholarship worth $160,000 and the Horatio Alger and Coca-Cola scholarships, each worth $20,000, to name a few. He'll use most of it to pay for advanced schooling. Now, Quarles hopes to weave a new family narrative at an all-male college known as much for molding brotherhood as for molding scholars. He is searching for a band of brothers who will not abandon him, as so many others have in the past.Left aloneWhen Quarles was 4, his father was stabbed to death with a pocketknife in a fight on a vacant lot. His mother struggled with drugs.Quarles doesn't remember much about those years, outside of being left alone with his brother for long stretches of time, pilfering bread and snacks from a convenience store."We had to fend for ourselves the best we knew how," he says. "My brother really stepped up as an older brother. He never left my side."This connection to his brother was a sustaining one. But it would not last. When Quarles was 5, officials placed him and his brother in a temporary foster home, then with an aunt.Quarles remembers this as a period of calm. He learned to read sitting in his aunt's lap, paging through her favorite Bible passages. He recalls eating around the dinner table with more food than he ever imagined. But when Quarles was 13, his older brother was removed from the home and placed in a foster home in Maywood. Quarles wanted to go with his brother and his aunt let him. State records simply show she was not interested in becoming his legal guardian. Quarles says he is not certain why his aunt let him leave and he would not provide her name."I'm content not to know," he says. "I'm sure it was a good reason."Quarles' brother left the foster home a few months later, one of the toughest losses of Quarles' life. "That's when I learned you can't trust people to stay around," he says. "That when I learned to lean on me."Three years later, Quarles was placed with his grandmother and an aunt in Chicago. But within a year, he convinced officials with the Department of Children and Family Services that he would be better off on his own.The high school junior packed his clothes, books and a set of golf clubs and moved to an apartment as part of a state transitional living program for foster children. There, he learned to budget his money, wash and dry his clothes, shop for groceries and cook. He received a small stipend and got a part-time job at a barbershop. At 17, he was living like an adult.Desmond Kemp, who became a mentor to Quarles -- a brother, really -- when they met at a tutoring program, initially opposed the move. But Kemp was impressed with how Quarles kept up the apartment and budgeted his money with such precision that he always had enough for fashionable clothes and textbooks. He was awed when he took Quarles to the grocery store and the teenager shunned the snack aisles and headed to the fresh fruits and vegetables."He kept saying, 'This is brain food. This is what I need to eat to build a strong brain,' " Kemp recalls. "I had to laugh but also stared in amazement at how mature he was for a teenager."Even though his home life was sometimes chaotic, Quarles brought home A's and B's in elementary school. That changed when he entered Kenwood Academy. First quarter of freshman year, he got an F and eked out only a 2.5 grade point average.Providence intervened in the form of a pushy biology teacher.Quarles had enrolled in a summer biology course but skipped the first day and was late for the second. Teacher Nivedita Nutakki pulled him into the hallway and told him he was wasting his talent."He needed a push and some encouragement," she says. "I spotted right away that this was a special kid who had a special mind."Quarles got an A in the class. Sophomore year, he earned a 3.6 grade point average. By junior year, he was carrying three advanced placement classes and earning straight A's."Initially, I was doing it to show my biology teacher that I could do it," he says. "But then it kind of moved into, 'I didn't have to show her anymore.' I was doing it to show myself."Quarles latched on to Nutakki and spent hours after school with her, engrossed in a subject that inspired him to want to be a doctor. He found other mentors who, together, played the role of parent.Lynda Parker, a Kenwood counselor, recounts how aggressively Quarles pursued college scholarships. He would stay late to use the school computer for research and pester Parker to complete his recommendation letters."With teenagers, the biggest motivator is the parent," Parker says. "Every step of the way, you have to contact the parents so they can push the kids. Not only did Derrius not have a parent to push him, he was pushing himself as hard, or harder, than parents of the other kids."Even his oversize ambition couldn't get Quarles past one roadblock. He dreamed of attending Harvard, until one college adviser told him his 28 ACT score was simply not high enough. He abandoned his plans. At a crossroadsNow, as he walks the red clay hills of the Morehouse campus, the training ground of Martin Luther King Jr., Quarles seems poised between who he was and who he wants to be.His dorm room looks like every other teenager's. The bed is mussed, the refrigerator and shelves are stacked with Doritos and Coke, and the focus of the room is the 32-inch flat-screen TV and Xbox he bought with his roommate. But inside Quarles' closet hang four suits and a half-dozen wrinkle-free dress shirts. In the corner sits an iron and ironing board. As a high school senior, Quarles Googled tips on business attire. Now, his belt color always matches his shoes, and his shirt sleeves are tailored to fall exactly halfway across his watch."How you dress says something to the world about who you think you are," he explains.Quarles' counselors, friends and teachers worry he is too eager to grow up."I keep telling him that everyone has a right to live as a child during their childhood years," Parker says.Still, Quarles keeps an ambitious list of goals: graduate from medical school, earn a doctorate, start a tutoring program for low-income Chicago students, help shape the city's public health policy, become the U.S. surgeon general."I have no time to play around," he says. "There are people back home in Chicago starving, homeless, unemployed, killing each other. There is a difference between enjoying life and wasting time, and I can't waste any time."I want to make a difference. I want to show people that I can be all those things people said I could never be."Quarles now has the means to pay for his education. And oversize optimism could get him the rest of the way.During a training session for a Morehouse tutoring program one day, students introduce themselves and list three songs on their iPod -- typically Kanye West, Beyonce, Jay-Z and Lou Rawls. When his turn comes, Quarles stands."Have you ever seen the movie 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'?" he asks, prompting raised eyebrows. "There's a song in there called 'Pure Imagination.' That's what I'm listening to these days."Quarles later explains that the lyrics inspire him: "Anything you want to, do it. Want to change the world? There's nothing to it.""It's so powerful," he says. "It shows the power of imagination. If you imagine it, you can do it."

One thing you must know for maximum breakthrough in 2010A mindset shift is crucial. I’ve talked about mindset for quite abit and I will continue to talk about it because it is one thingthat sabotages our success in life. There are a coupleof mindset shifts that need to happen if you’re going to havebreakthrough in 2010 and realize the benefits of women’s empowerment.I’ll list four of them below.1. ThoughtsYour thoughts play a big role in what you manifest and have manifested.Your subconscious mind is ready to move on what you say and what youthink. It doesn’t know the difference between Whether you’re serious orif your statement or thought is temporary based on your current situationor not. Your subconscious mind is ready to move on whatever you presentto it as such it’s important that you make the shift towards a positivemindset.Your thoughts become energy. If your thoughts are negative, theenergy is negative; If positive , then the energy is positive. When emotions become involved with the thoughts, the energy is evenstronger. The energy, however, doesn’t remain dormant – it expands. It expands each time you think your thought. As energy builds and gains strength, it begins to attract like energy.Like a magnet, the energy attracts other like matter to it. Since theenergy is inside you, it attracts the like matter to you.As you can see, negative thoughts and energy weaken you and yourability to achieve.2. Quantum leapThere’s no more time to move slow on your aspirations. It’s time to makequantum leaps. Time to think bigger, dream bigger and live bigger. Yes,you want to learn the necessary skills and strategies and lay a strongfoundation, however, when you move you want to move with great intentionsand in a Big way for Big results.3. SuccessMany of us have been conditioned by society, our environment, relationshipsetc. and this his left us with a failure mindset and even a mentality of inferiority. It’s imperativethat you surround yourself with a mentor and/or coach that will allow you to embrace a successmindset. You can’t afford to surround yourself with individuals with negative mindsets, individuals that are not trying to pursue their greatness or stretch.Do what you have to do to make the shift to a success mindset.Successful people do what unsuccessful people aren’t willing to do.4. AbundanceYou can no longer operate in a scarcity mentality. This type ofindividual operates from a place of limitation and not enough. Makethe shift from a mindset of lack to that of abundance. See, hearand speak abundance. As I read on one of my calls from Ephesians 3:20Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] powerthat is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and]do super abundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask orthink [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes,or dreams]--21To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughoutall generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it)There you have it. No shortage. God is able to do more than enough!Renew your vision to His vision, see through His eyes the abundancethat He has for His children.I’ve shared one thing you must know for maximum breakthrough in 2010.There are many more things that I could share as I shared on one ofmy Teleseminars, however, I’d like to offer you an opportunity tolearn more by connecting with me via this free resource.
