When trying to decide whether to use a credit union or a bank when applying for a credit card. There are a few factors to consider.

1.) With a credit union you are a member, or a stakeholder. With a bank you are simply a customer. Banks are for-profit institutions and their goal is to make money for the stockholders of the company. A credit union is not-for-profit entity and their goal is pass through the profits to the members. This comes in the form of added member benefits such as low fees and low rates.

2.) Its a misconstrued opinion that credit unions have limited branch and ATM locations. However, many credit unions belong to larger networks, such as the Credit Union Service Centers.

3.) Most credit unions offer credit cards just like a typical bank. What isn’t so typical are the exceptionally low APR rates they offer.

4.) Credit unions have many available ATMs, but they are also fee free! The average fee for an ATM is $2.33 and is on the rise. Now if you use your bank issued ATM card at a third party ATM, then you just doubled your fees. With a credit union ATM card, you can withdraw your own money fee free as long as it’s at a participating ATM. Even if you withdraw money from a third party, you may have to pay their fee, but most credit unions don’t charge for the transactions themselves. I’m too busy to walk into a branch office every time I want to withdraw some money, and I feel that I shouldn’t have to pay hefty fees when I do.

5.) At a credit union, credit cards, home equity loans, mortgages, auto loans, and personal loans all enjoy lower rates than you will find at a bank. At the same time, savings, checking, money market, and CD’s have higher rates. I don’t typically endorse putting any significant amount of your money into savings and CD’s as inflation tends to outpace them, however, most people feel more comfortable doing so and they might as well earn a higher rate!

How do I get a mortgage with bad credit?

Being a homeowner is a great feeling.  You know you’ve made some progress in your life, when you’re no longer a renter but instead an homeowner.  However, many of us struggle to get the chance to own a home because we have bad credit.

Now, you don’t have to be discourage anymore, because there are home buying programs and lenders willing to help you become a home owner even with bad credit.  Although, they may have a few extra criteria’s, you can buy a piece of real estate.

With the FHA mortgage program, their criteria’s are fairly simple.  They would like for you to have a minimum credit score of 580, 3 to 6 months of paystubs, 2 years of taxes, and debt to income ratio of 35%.  They also want you to have a down payment of 3.5% of the mortgage value and you can even borrow that from a friend or family member.  Another nice thing about the FHA mortgage program, if you have relative living with you, they will include their income to help you qualify for that mortgage.

There are also conventional mortgages that also have become very flexible when working with new home buyers, such as allowing a home buyer to put 3% down on that house.   Also, they’ve made it easier for veterans to buy a home with no down payment.

So, can I buy a home with bad credit? The answer is yes, however I would encourage to fix your bad credit so you can get a lower interest rate.

Should I Co-sign A loan, credit card, or Apartment for a Family member?

If you’re a parent then I suggest to add your kids on your credit accounts as authorize user.  This will build up their credit, so you as the parent will not need to co-sign for their student loans, cars, and apartments.

Now, if you have a family member or love one that having credit issues and they ask if you would sign for them a car, credit card, or apartment, then I would suggest you not to do it.  The reason is that it could ruin the relationship.  For example, if a family needs to move into a new apartment and they ask you to co-sign and you decide to do it.  If that person loses his or her job, then you’ll be stuck with making the payments or ruining your personal credit and the relationship.

I always suggest if a person is having credit issues offer to help them repair their personal credit, if they refuse, then you know that person is not the one to be offering help too.  Some may argue that you should look at how financially responsible the person is in order to determine if it’s worth you putting your good personal credit on the line.  However, you must factor in that things could happen to the person or their employment and that may leave you on the hook for extra bills.

So, in conclusion, I would suggest find other ways to help them, rather reserve the relationship then jeopardize personal credit if the person is not will to fix their own credit.

Why Ask Why?

In the great mental vacuum of psychobabble and matching talk shows, seems to be an endless string of people from failed relationships asking “why”. “Why didn’t I get my promised phone call?” “Why weren’t they where they said they were going to be?” “Why did they lie to me?” “Why did they cheat on me?” Why, why, why, why!!! These pointless inquiries are usually followed by some mention of “closure” as if having “closure” somehow changes the end results. My question is why ask why?The fact is it makes no difference. Why people do what they do rarely makes a difference. That they do what they do is what ultimately matters. Oh, I realize most people think that if the “reason” is good enough, it’s going to make everything OK somehow. But let’s face it; the reasons are usually a far cry from the near life and death scenarios we need them to be for our own rationalizations. Oftentimes, the “reasons” people give are just more lies. Which brings me back to my original question – why ask why?Ask this, am I hurt about the lie or action? Would you really feel better knowing that you didn’t get that call because she was just trying to spare your feelings or would you prefer that she simply didn’t make a promise she never intended to keep? Would you really feel better if you knew that he lied to you just to get laid or would you prefer that he was simply honest about wanting to get laid so you could be a real adult and decide for yourself if you wanted to participate? How does it hurt less or damage you less if you know you were cheated on just because it was possible? Is it better to be cheated on for meaningless sex or because of a relationship? My point is, whatever the “reason”, the end result is the same. Most of us have enough to do trying to replenish ourselves after a bad relationship. If you really want to spend that time productively, it would be much better to focus on what actually does matter – dealing with the reality of the situation you’re left with. Don’t deny; don’t distort; don’t try to medicate away the feelings – they suck, but they’re not fatal. People somehow manage to live through them all the time – no matter how horrible.Give yourself the opportunity to be surprised and proud of how strong you really are. See it for what it is; deal with it; and become a better person on the other side of the pain. That way, you can be truly useful and pay your wisdom forward to someone else suffering the same agony.Speaking the truth in love,Deidre

Peace my Beloved Family,For as long as I can remember I have desired to help people to be greater than themselves. In my typical style, I knew I would do this in a very BIG way. Even though I didn’t always know what helping people looked like for me, I knew healing was a major part of who I was.Through years of self discovery, soul searching, and studying various healing arts with many talented teachers and healers, the picture became clearer. As a result, Avalaura’s Healing Center was born. One thing I’ve realized along my journey is no matter how much you’re able to see, the full picture is always greater. It exceeds your wildest dreams and it can only be revealed to you when you are ready to see it. What’s presented to you is only a glimpse of what’s to come if you ALLOW it. Oprah often says “What God intended for you goes far beyond anything you can imagine.” This has been the great truth of my life.I’m very humbled by the healing work I’ve been blessed to do over the last three years. I love hearing the inspirational stories from the people I’ve served, seeing their smiles and receiving their embraces. But through it all, I have always known there was more, that the work I’d begun was just the beginning. Being a healer brings many blessings, but it also brings great responsibility. Ayi Kwei Armah states in his book The Healers:“A healer needs to see beyond the present and tomorrow. He needs to see years and decades ahead. Because healers work for results so firm that they may not be wholly visible till centuries have flowed into millennia. Those willing to do this necessary work, they are the healers of our people.”This belief embodies the spirit of every aspect of the work I do. I know I’ve been blessed with a powerful gift and I’m determined to share it with the world. Many people have asked me, why did I choose to be a healer and how did I become interested in holistic or alternative healing? And I tell them very simply, this is the work I was born to do. This is not something I woke up one day and said, “ooohh wouldn’t it be cool to heal the world?” On the contrary, it is a powerful energy, a feeling, a passion that surges through every part of my being. I sleep with it, I eat with it, I laugh with it and I heal with it. This is what God has intended for me and I graciously accept the call. I am always searching for another way; a better way. I’m always working to improve my work. I’m always trying to figure out; how can I do more, how can I help people heal faster and how can I help people heal permanently. Finally in my search, I have found the ultimate healing. I have found that better way or rather it found me.My experiences in India expanded my awareness to further allow what God has intended for me. When I returned to the U.S., the next phase of my journey began. In my meditation I was introduced to the greatest healer I have ever known. He is a Muslim Sufi who comes from a long line of healers in the Gambia in West Africa. Although I was just introduced to him, God had been preparing him for me for four years. He was waiting patiently for me to arrive. And when I did, he embraced me as his child, as his friend, and as his student. Since the moment of our physical meeting, he has taught me everything that he knows; everything that Spirit has taught him. I can not tell you what a great blessing and gift this is. I am not Muslim, I am a woman and I am an American. All of these are obstacles to learning these sacred traditions and wisdom teachings that God has opened the way for me to receive.Through Marabout Spiritual Healing, I have been invited into a secret world that many will never have the privilege to witness. The Spirit world has embraced me with open arms and has shown me that miracles do exist. Through my work with Spirit; Spirit can create miracles in the lives of many. This allows me a unique perspective, a vantage point or as Armah says the ability to “see beyond the present and tomorrow.” This is the vantage point that I graciously share with you. Armah also states “Healers are just awakeners of a people who have slept too long.”Wake up! You have slept too long! It pains me to see people suffering unnecessarily. Agonizing from disease, limiting beliefs, curses and other evil influences and self imposed limitations. I feel frustrated when I hear the many stories of people poisoning themselves with chemotherapy to “cure” cancer, people enduring surgery for something that can be healed naturally, people experiencing the symptoms of sickle cell or HIV because western medicine has no cures, or people taking numerous medications for diabetes or high blood pressure when a healing herb is the answer. I am so tired of poverty consciousness and other limiting beliefs where people believe they don’t have the time or money for the very things that will change their lives. But instead spend their time and money on things that will never yield the results they seek.Wake up! You have lost your way. You have been conditioned to believe that the world you live in is reality. So when a doctor tells you there is no cure for a disease, then this must be true. Many of us believe constant suffering and enduring one bad experience after another is a normal part of our human existence. This is not so. The real world is the unseen world beyond us that governs our “reality.” And in this world EVERTHING IS POSSIBLE. There is a cure for everything; everything can and does heal. For what has been created can be destroyed and what has yet to be created, can be manifested. This is the work of miracles. This is the work of Spirit. This is the work I am humbled to help you use to change your life. But……Only if you believe!Only if you allow it!Only if you realize there is a force greater than you that allows healing beyond your greatest imagination!Only if you decide to stop complaining, stop procrastinating, use your Divine power and take your life back!Only then can you begin to witness the greatness God intends for you. There is a better way; don’t be afraid to believe in it, even if you can’t see it. Don’t be afraid to embrace it; when your opportunity for true healing is presented to you, even if you don’t understand it. Wake up! It is time for you to believe and embrace a better way!Love & Divine Healing,Avalaura
