DID YOU VOTE YET?
I am one busy sista, so I can only imagine how busy you must be BUT if there is one thing I have learned online its that we all need to take some time to support each other. A few weeks back I entered a bedtime story for my son into the NatureMade Contest. I honestly haven't received as much support from you as I hoped, but I do greatly appreciate what has been given. If you could take a sec to review my story and vote that would be great! Thanks in advance. -lh

Can you see the video above? If not click here. This past month, I've been keeping you up to date on my latest web design projects, most of which are built on the wordpress.org platform. Whether it be my web clients or coaching clients, I'm finding quite a few sistas in my circle want to know how to tweak their blogs and add things like contact forms, videos, ebooks, etc. At first I was spending alot of time answering questions via email, until the light bulb over my head went off and I decided to create the Sistas Who Blog video series. When it comes to adding something like a contact form to your blog. I usually just recommend the email marketing services I use (icontact and madmimi). Then I explain to my client, once sign up to an email marketing service you can create lists, then setup signup forms for your lists, and then cut and paste the signup code onto your blogs sidebar. To ME it sounds simple enough, but I realized alot of folks need more of a visual walkthrough and that's why I created the video tutorials. You can watch me, step by step, show you how to make your blog better. A while back I created my Blogging for Beginners Starter Kit for those who wanted to learn about building a wordpress blog and using their blog to market their business online. NOW I'm taking it a step further by taking 7 common questions that newbie / intermediate bloggers have about their wordpress blogs and creating 7 info-packed, easy to follow video tutorials that you can watch online. The 7 Video Tutorials are:
  • How to Add a Contact Form to Your Blog
  • How to Use eJunkie to Share, Sell, and Track Your eBooks, Reports and other Digital Content Online
  • How to Add Video to Your Blog Using Youtube or Uploading Video that is longer than 10 minutes
  • How to Add Premium Themes to Your Wordpress Blog
  • How to keep viewers on your blog longer
  • My Social Media Checklist for the Best Traffic and Visibility Online
If you want to watch the complete series, visit the Sistas Who Blog page. This is one of my latest creations, so here is a special Early Bird promo code: SWB29. Use the code to get this series for $29 (regular $49). Promo code will work for the first 29 people who use it! If you have any questions about my latest creation, feel free to let me know.

Miss Nappturality pageant seeks

“America’s Next Natural Model”

Deadline for models to apply is Dec. 18, 2010

Who will be crowned Miss Nappturality 2011? A lady with locs, or a beauty with a Fro-hawk?

The pageant, also known as America’s Next Natural Model, is looking for a new face to grace the pages of a national magazine and to represent one of its sponsors.

The online competition, which is in its third year, celebrates the beauty and versatility of natural hair. It began in 2008 as a collaboration between the site owners of Going-Natural.com and Nappturality.com , Mireille Liong and Patricia Gaines, respectively. Together their sites form a social network of well over 150,000 users who share information beyond the common interest of natural hair care.

“I am very exited about this event”, says Liong who is also the author of Going Natural, How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair . It’s like America’s Next Top Model meets American Idol in an interactive social network nvironment.

The Miss Nappturality pageant is the perfect match for upcoming models who need exposure and for businesses interested in social media promotion. While natural beauties get free products and endorsement opportunities that can put them on the national stage, sponsoring companies can have their products promoted interactively to the hundreds of thousands of potential buyers who make up the growing social network.

The ultimate goal of America's Next Natural Model isto spread awareness about the hair and scalp disorders that plague a large majority of Black women. According to Dr. Jeffery J. Miller, dermatologist at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania, 73 percent of African-American women suffer from relaxer-induced
alopecia and complain of hair breakage, split ends and dryness caused by relaxers.

America’s Next Natural Model takes on the lingeringissue by proving that African hair can be extremely beautiful without the need for hazardous chemicals, extensions or damaging weaves. At the same time, the organizers strive to make the case for a corporate dress code policy that is updated to include natural hairstyles to ease the pressure on ethnic women to straighten their strands.

Previous pageant winners have gone on to bigger and better things. After winning America's first-ever Next Natural Model, Tiana Tamara Townsel also became Miss Black Washington. And last year’s Miss Nappturality, Teesha Borum , is currently working on her acting career in Atlanta.

Photos of the models have been used in commercials of sponsoring companies all over the country. You can see the winning photos and read the respective interviews of the winners on Going-Natural.com.

For more information about the competition, sponsorship opportunities or becoming a model, email miss-np @ going-natural.com

Media Tips for Budding Journalists

For those of you who don't know, I spent more than 25 years in radio and television news. I was everything from a reporter to fill-in anchor to assignment editor and producer. I even filled in as a photographer during my early days in TV.

Today, my role as a media consultant is to help those seeking media attention find it. That includes coaching and preparing clients so they will be, what I call, “media marketable.”

But those seeking media attention aren’t the only ones who need tips. Anyone who is or wants to be in the business of interviewing others should have their act together as well. With BlogTalk radio on the scene, many wanna be radio hosts have popped up.

So here are some tips for those of you who want to give your best as the interviewer on the airwaves:

  • Never give your guest the questions in advance. Many guests will try to give you a list of prepared questions. It’s OK to accept them but let them know you may not ask any or all of them. Giving them the questions in advance allows them to rehearse answers and not come across as natural during the interview.
  • Always check to make sure your equipment is working.
  • Treat the guest with respect. The interviewee deserves respect whether they are the President or just an average Joe Blow.
  • Take control of the interview. Don’t let your guest over your show.
  • You are not the center of attention. Remember you are there to get the perspective of the guest not give your own.
  • Do the research you need to, but don’t try to cram it all into your questions. Before you start the interview put yourself in the shoes of a member of your audience. If they were here, what would they ask?
  • The interview is a conversation. It is not a confrontation. You are not there to make the interviewee look stupid.
  • Shorter questions are better than longer ones. The more detail there is in the question the more difficult it is for the interviewee to track what you are asking. Be as direct as you can without being rude.
  • Be sure of your facts. There’s nothing worse than being told you are wrong by an interviewee – especially when it’s live.
  • Listen carefully to your guest’s responses. You might come up with some follow-up questions.

Being credible as an interviewer means being professional and prepared.

How is your personal compass set?

Two things ... (one) when I asked for suggestions on how to make BBWO better one member requested more information about useful web tools online and offline. Then (# two) on the Digital Sisterhood call last night (audio replay here) one of the topics we talked about "Our Favorite Web Tools." I discovered quite a few resources I've never heard of.... SO I put one and two together to create my latest creation, "Dollar Downloads." I will regularly either give you a code to download one of my digital products for $1 OR share other eBooks, eCourses, web tools, and apps that you can try for $1 or less. And to ensure that I'm not the only one sharing, I've also created a 'Dollar Downloads BBWO Group', so that you can share your creations and/or finds with the entire BBWO community. I loved being on the Sisterhood radio show last night AND even though I planned on shutting down my Sistas Who Sell 7 Day Challenge, I've been getting such great feedback about it that I decided to make it my first Dollar Download. The next 250 sistas who signup to the challenge and use the code (7FOR1) get access to my 7 Selling / Marketing Tips for only $1. When you click here, just use that code. ALSO in the spirit of digital sisterhood, share my first Dollar Download with the sistas in your circle. I'm curious to see how many will signup, spread the word, and stay connected! How Important is Customer Service?

This is a blog post from http://stephanieathome.blogspot.com/

Customer+Service.JPG

Oh where, oh where did customer service go? While renovating our house we've made purchases from a lot of different businesses. From mom-and-pop shops to the big box retail companies to independent contractors and I must say the one thing that they all have in common is a general lack of good customer service. It seems to me the general attitude these days is to just 'get the job done'. But, it should (at least in my opinion) be about more than just getting the job done, it should also be about delivering the best experience possible to the customer.

What does that mean exactly? It's all the things that show you care and actually value your customers. It's putting the phone down when you're clearly on a personal call to ring a customer up at the cash register rather than making them wait till you're finished telling Missy about your hot date last night. It's about actually leaving your store open till the closing time printed on your front window rather than locking the doors and packing up at quarter-to, so you can get out of there as soon as the clock strikes 5:00. It's about skipping lunch (and yes I've done it many times before myself) to help a customer rather then telling them they are SOL because it's time for your break. It's using words like 'good morning', 'good afternoon' and 'good night". It's about simply thanking your customers for their purchase. It's about letting them know that you would be happy to see them come back again.

It's all of those little things (that don't cost anything extra to do by the way), that will make a customer drive past three of your competitors and go out of their way to shop with you because they want to repeat the great experience they had the first time. Soon that repeat customer turns into a loyal customer. Then their loyalty spreads to their family and friends. And in no time you've developed a cult following all because you said 'good morning'. Ok, so it's not quite that simple, but still I wouldn't underestimate the power of good customer service.

So all you business owners out there, think about the little things you can do to help your customers have a more enjoyable experience when they enter your store. And don't keep it a secret, train your employees to put a smile on the customer's face. After all, you don't want someone you're paying to lose you money at the end of the day. So spread the word, good customer service is the newest trend in town and it's here to stay.

"For Colored Girls"

I truly enjoyed Tyler Perry's new movie. Well, maybe an understatement; I loved the movie. Even though I sat in awe AND cried during most of the movie. I pledge to see it again and once it comes out on video (oops, that shows my age a bit), I will own it. Come visit my blog IAmSocialButterfly, to see what I had to say about the movie. I hope you would drop a comment over there as well.

Today is a special day. I have had the pleasure of interviewing Mrs.Tamyka Washington, The CEOmamma! She is a successful business women, that resides in Talhassee, Florida. She teaches women "how to use social media and network marketing to build a profitable business and create the lifestyle they desire and deserve." (www.theceomamma.com) So at this time, I'm so excited to introduce everyone to Tamyka Washington, founder and CEO of http://www.theceomamma.com/!

1. Tell me your story. What were you doing before you started your own business?I am a wife, mom to five with baby number 6 on her way in February and entrepreneur! I work full-time from home operating two businesses, my primary business is with a wonderful Network Marketing company and I've recently started my own Marketing & Consulting business.

Prior to starting my first business in 2002, I worked a few service based and retail jobs that kept me away from my, then three children. I always knew having my own business was what I definitely wanted and I was

determined to make it happen.

2. What made you want to start a business and what is your mission? What made me want to start a business was my desire to be a stay-at-home mom but still be able to contribute to the household income. My passion was to help women like me, who wanted something more while keeping their personal priorities at the top of the list.

My mission was and still is today, to help women achieve their dreams of being successful business

owners by sharing my years of experience and knowledge.

3. What inspires you? What keeps you movtivated daily to keep growing your business? What keeps me inspired is the many thanks and appreciation I get from women I help regularly, get to where they want to be in their business. I have a great love for Social Media, Network Marketing and Blogging and It is my passion to be able teach women how to build and market their business on a budget, the same way I did and continue to do.

I'm motivated everyday by my children. It was because of them I started my first business and continue to

build a legacy for them. As they grow into young adults, it makes me proud to know they too, want to be

entrepreneurs!

4. Do you have a mentor? Who is it and why? Do you believe it's important to have one?At this time, I do not have a personal mentor, however, I have in the past and currently connect with others in my industry who inspire me and encourage me to be my absolute best. Having a mentor is valuable because it will allow you to have someone in your corner to not only look up to but to help you along your journey. A real mentor will be aware of your goals and dreams and help you regularly by holding you accountable for your actions (or lack of) to help you grow.

5. What would you tell someone who wants to get involved in your line of business but doesn't know how to get started? My first piece of advice would be to really be sure it is something you want to do and have a true passion for it. Starting any business is not easy and takes a certain level of commitment of time and dedication. You may not even see a profit for months but you have to be willing to stick with it because you love it.

To get started and be successful, you have to be willing to do the research and continue to learn everything you need to know within the industry. Tracking results and trying new methods is how you will grow productively and be effective.

6. What advice would you give to someone with an entrepeneur spirit? My advice would be to go for it! If you believe in yourself and have the drive, do it no matter what. There will be times that people won't support your vision or understand your dream but you should never give up!

Thank you Tamyka for your time! To learn more about Tamyka, visit her website at http://www.theceomamma.com/.

I am loving me....how about you?

It seems like there is this huge phenomena that is going on today where single women are always saying “I love me.” They say that they love themselves however they let others mistreat them, talk down on them, take crap from other people, and mistreat themselves. This is not considered self-love.Self-love is being patient with yourself, having self-respect, speaking to yourself with kind words, and just showing appreciation to yourself. When you begin to love yourself unconditionally, then others will do the same. This topic fits so well in attracting Mr. Right. I have seen countless women always complain about the way that men treat them and how they want a man to love them unconditionally.Through my years on this earth I have learned that you train people on how to treat you. If you are always walking around calling yourself fat, stupid, and just demeaning yourself as a woman what makes you think that others won’t pick up on that and start doing the same thing. If you’ve read any of my articles you know that I talk a lot about the Law of Reflection. The Law of Reflection is the way that you treat yourself is the same way that others treat you. It basically means that your outside world is a reflection of your inside world.Ways that you can show self-love:• Speak kind words to yourself• Be considerate of your feelings• Tell yourself that you love you every morning• Demand that people respect your body, mind, and spirit• Only listen, watch, and read anything that is going to uplift your spirit• Only surround yourself with positive people who will bring you good• Tell yourself the truth• Be patient with yourselfMy assignment for you today is to do a self-evaluation on how you treat yourself. Write it down. After analyzing your self-evaluation figure out what you need to improve on. Make a task list and get to taking immediate action.Do you need help in this area with attracting Mr. Right? Visit www.guidingu2success.com and schedule your Free Get Acquainted Call where you can ask key questions and talk about solutions free of charge.
