Are you scratching your head wondering why people just aren't responding to your emails? I mean it's bad enough that they don't respond to your special sales promotions. But, they don't even respond when you give away free stuff.

What gives?

I believe there are three things that could be happening here:

1. You have spies on your list: You know, people who signed up just to see how you did your ebook or what kind of email campaigns you deliver. Oh, don't act like you've never done it :)

2. They're just not that into you: These people may have joined your list for something very specific that met their need at the time and now that they got it, well, they could care less what you send them. So, why have they not unsubscribed? They hang on waiting for something from you that wow's them to buy from you again.

3. You're not putting your back into it: I'm sorry, what I mean is, you aren't even trying. You are just throwing together emails, hoping that that best practice tip (you know the one where they said to email your list once per week?) will hypnotize your subscribers into obeying your every command.

If you want to get your marketing emails opened and your subscribers to take action you need to shift and shake things up a little.

Give value, value and more value and you'll be rewarded for it. Yep! Content Marketing applies to your email marketing efforts too!

So, how can you create a follow up campaign that keeps subscribers engaged, responsive and eager to buy from you?

Here are five quick tips:

1. Don't just send promos: Follow the 80/20 rule provide value eighty percent of the time and promote your offerings twenty percent. This will keep your subscriber's sales walls down and show them that they are worth more than a sales pitch.

2. Be intentional about providing value: Do you take time out each week and look for ways to make your subscriber's lives better?  I myself have been guilty of just throwing together a "fluff" email just to keep in touch. But, if you want to pass the "so what" test, you need to demonstrate that you really care about giving them valuable information they can use, whether they work with you or not.

3. Provide incentives: Sure coupons and discounts on your products and services are cool, but find ways to take it even further. What can you use as a carrot to get people to act? Can you offer tickets to an event, a gift card, a gift basket? Maybe you could partner with someone  and have them sponsor a gift to your list? The possibilities are endless, get creative.

4. Give your subscribers a piece of you: It's important to be you in style and tone when writing your list. It helps them to create a deeper connection and establishes the all important "know and like" factor of that famous marketing mantra.

5. Reward your most responsive subscribers:  If you want your subscribers to engage and pay attention to you, show them that you're paying attention too! Try rewarding them with exclusive discounts, a spotlight interview or a cool prize. I feel the best way to do this is unexpectedly. By the way, this could be a great incentive.

Employ these tips and your subscribers will go from "so what" and ignoring your emails to looking forward to communication from you.

I know there are a lot of email marketing blueprints and advice that give you the A to Z on how to build a responsive list. But, there is no magic bullet. You have to put what you know into action and see what works. Repeat what does and tweak what doesn't until it works too! Don't forget to have fun and be creative, your subscribers are people....not robots :)

How are you? I hope each of you had a wonderful weekend. Mother's day has come and gone and for every mom out there I hope your day was an amazing one filled with much laughter and love. Personally, my day was perfect. I spent time with my beloved (He surprised me with a lovely and thoughtful gift), heard from my children (They live throughout the US), and received and shared messages of goodwill and love with family and friends.

It was a memorable day and as usual it left me thinking about love. Love is such a gigantic topic that we do our best to pigeonhole and water down because, it seems to cause such discomfort in so many people. And, while I appreciate holidays like Mother's day. It always makes me curious to know how people express their love for mom throughout the year.

I realize I am truly blessed because I have a great relationship with my 3 incredible sons. We talk often and are a consistent part of each others lives. I love them dearly and they return my love without hesitation.

I believe it is so easy for us because, I raised them to be loving and strong men. We never leave each other, hang up the phone, or finish a texting conversation without saying "I love you." It is a natural-feeling habit for us. I let them know that saying "I love you." is a good thing and not something to fear. Even when, we have had our disagreements over the years; we still come back to love. Open communication is definitely the key. They are awesome young men and I could talk about them all day, but I want to share a quote with you that eloquently expresses the importance of fearlessly saying "I love you" to your loved ones.

It is from Leo Buscaglia's book "Born for Love". It is a wonderful book full of joy and wisdom. I highly recommend it to anyone who is ready to change their belief systems around the topic of love.

"Such a simple phrase, 'I love you,' yet I cannot think of any words with greater power. Francois Villon, the French poet, wrote, 'I love you. These are easy words to say, yet my heart fails as I say them, for their meaning is as full and musical as the bell of doom.' 

We should never tire of expressing our love, for certainly we never tire of hearing it expressed. Strange how simple it is to use these words with inanimate things. We feel safe in loving our car, a new coat, or spaghetti and meatballs. But, we have grave difficulties verbalizing our love for other human beings, even to those closest to us...

The message 'I love you,' is not something that goes without saying. To the contrary, it needs to be said whenever and wherever love is present." - Leo Buscaglia

I think this quote expresses how we seem to fear saying "I love you," to the people we care for so deeply.

What stops you from using those 3 little words more often. Is it:

• A fear of rejection
• Loss of perceived power
• A need to control
• Fear of an awkward moment (Say it more often and it becomes less traumatic)

Tell me. I have heard numerous reasons over the years and I have had to overcome my own fears. Especially, when I initially fall in love and I am worried I may say it too soon or the other person may not feel the same way. Yes, even I have a had an insecure moment or 2. But, I have learned from experience, if it is on my heart to say it then, I need to say it. Whether a person receives it or not is their issue not mine.

Now, having shared this with you, I am asking you to do a simple assignment for me. Actually it is more for you than me.

Today, and everyday that follows, find 3 people who you can say "I love you." Just say it and be okay if they do not say it in return. If it is someone close to you where these words have not flown freely; be patient and be prepared to answer some questions or receive a strange look or 2. 

Love is an ongoing process that requires courage, fearlessness, joy, persistence, and trust. It is worth any and all effect you put into it. So, have faith and know that you are love and you are loved. Regardless of the circumstances that may surround your life so, pass it along and watch how the blessing of love shows up more often in your life.

A while back I attended a college graduation ceremony and observed something that verified something I already knew, but hadn’t actually thought about.  Seated in front of me was a young mother and next to her was her newborn baby.  The infant couldn’t have been more than two weeks old as it sat in the plastic car carrier oblivious to the world.  What I observed was this mother’s constant and deliberate attention to this new person.  Every few seconds she would look inside the carrier to see if everything was alright.  The baby was sleep, yet the new mother kept watch much like a mother robin does with her newly hatched babies; or like a mother lion does with her baby cubs.  And it occurred to me that there is a special bond between child and mother that is pure and natural.  It cannot be duplicated.  It can not be replicated.  Grandma doesn’t have it.  Auntie doesn’t have.  And definitely Dad doesn’t have it.  That bond between mother and child is like no other bond ever created.  You can’t describe it.  You can’t study it.  You simply have to know that it is.

And while the bond gets tested many times as a child grows, the bond remains intact.  Mom will defend you to the Supreme Court if need be, yet be your harshest critic when you act a fool.  I instinctly knew that this bond existed, but when you get to be grown, sometimes you have to be reminded of what you know.  That’s what the woman at the graduation ceremony did.  She reminded me that the Spirit created the bond between mother and child to be like no other human connection on earth, and because of that, we are blessed more than we can ever comprehend.

I’ve created a list of social networking tips you can use to promote yourself and your business on BBWO. The key to this list and any strategies is not doing one thing once and then giving up if you see minimal results. You have to create a game plan. You have to carve out time either daily or weekly that you commit to networking online and/or promoting your business on social networks. And the BIG thing is you have to always work on getting people back to your space by  making recommendations on a product or service that would be helpful to them; essentially sharing something on your site that you would like them to try/ sign up to.

• Browse the member directory – find people who are local to you or share your interests. For as long as BBWO has been online we’ve had hundreds of members forge new partnerships, find new clients and make strong connections by simply finding like minded individuals and taking the time to have genuine conversations with them.
  
  
• People can find your profile via our member directory and even through direct searches on Google. Make sure to complete your profile page with information about you and your business. You can add links to your site, your RSS Blog Feed and product photos.
  
  
• Use the main site search box or browse the forum and/or groups to look for people asking questions about your area of business and answer them. Let people know you are available to help.
  
  
• Post informational articles via your BBWO Blog and/or in the forum.
  
  
• Start a group around your business – this is a great way to build a listing of people you can communicate with, help and sell your offerings to.
  
  
• Browse the Advertising options on BBWO to see how you can get your banner ads featured or send out an email eBlast to our Community.
  
  
•  Become a BBWO Expert – share weekly advice and at the same time promote yourself as an expert with services our members and readers would be interested in.
  
  
• Add your videos to our video page for additional views and exposure.
  
  
• Follow us on Facebook and Twitter – respond to tweets, join our twitter parties and comment back on the Facebook page to reach others and gain exposure.
