If you are a single mom, it might be difficult to get away for an actual Mother's Day vacation. However, there's no reason you can't enjoy the weekend by planning a staycation in or near or your town. In fact, many single mothers prefer the staycation approach because it enables them to enjoy quality time alone and with their children without needing to pack their car full of toys and other necessary items. Are you a single mom wanting to enjoy yourself this Mother's Day weekend? Perfect! Read on to get a head start on planning the perfect staycation.
Ideas for Alone Time
Even though you will most likely want to spend the majority of the weekend with your children, it is definitely okay to take some time for yourself. Once your children have been safely delivered to one of your relatives or a babysitter, you can head to a local day spa to be pampered for a few hours. If you prefer to have some time to yourself without visiting a spa, consider taking yourself on a movie date. After all, it's typically very difficult for a single mom to enjoy a movie that is geared toward a mature audience, and you do need to allow yourself to be an adult and enjoy some "Me time." Finances too tight at the moment? No worries! Head to the library a few days before Mother's Day and rent a few good magazines. Then, on Mother's Day, put on your favorite pair of sweats, order some home movies, and enjoy the solitude.
A Staycation with Children
After you've spent some time by yourself, it's a good idea to let your children enjoy Mother's Day with you. If the temperature is warm enough in your area, you could take your kids to the beach or the pool for an afternoon. Even if the beach is in your town, it will still provide you with some of the fun and relaxation that is typically associated with going on vacation. Another good way to celebrate the holiday with your children is to go to out to eat at a restaurant that is serving a special Mother's Day meal. Alternatively, you could go to your favorite park or nature reserve and have a picnic. If you have a young baby, bring their portable playards along for impromptu naps and feeding time.
Staying at Home for Fun
In some cases, it might be easier to plan an at-home staycation with your children. If so, be sure to do something different from your daily experiences. For example, if you have a young baby, they can join the fun if you make simple changes like transitioning baby from his or her regular crib into a fun-meets-function Bright Starts playard. They offer comfort and engagement for baby, and convenience for mommy; a win/win! Or, get together and make Mother's Day crafts and hang them around your home. Another good idea is to build the environment of a movie theater at home by making popcorn, letting everyone have some candy, turning the lights off and pulling your living room furniture closer to the television than usual to make the screen look bigger.
Regardless of what you decide to do for Mother's Day weekend, make sure that you take some time to celebrate yourself. After all, being a single mom is one of the hardest jobs in the world, and you deserve to do something special in honor of the holiday.

Yes, I have flipped around this well known quote. Typically, the statement is “Behind Every Great Man is a Great Woman.” It is a wonderful quote and very simply explains how important a great relationship is for a man to truly reach various levels of success in his life. History is full of numerous examples of incredibly successful men who had wives, lovers, and/or mistresses who inspired them to be more than ordinary and reach great levels of accomplishment.
Monuments like the Taj Mahal are constant reminders of how powerful love is and the lengths that a grateful and happy man will go to express his love for an inspiring woman. A woman who was, at times, quietly in the background offering her love and support for his ideas and visions of success; his partner, love, and many times his best friend.
Knowing how powerful the right love connection can be for true happiness and success in life. I decided to also point out how important is for a woman to also have a truly wonderful and supportive man in her life; someone who rouses her to be and do more; a man who is confident, lovable, and passionately believes in her and her dreams.
To prove my point here are few modern day women who have amazing and loving support from their men:
• Michelle Obama (Husband - President of the United States Barack Obama)
• Angelina Jolie (Life Partner – Brad Pitt)
• Jada Pinkett-Smith (Husband – Will Smith)
• Beyonce (Husband – Jay Z)
Are a few wonderful examples of women with a powerhouse man in her corner; these ladies understand the importance of having a great life partner because, if you really think about it being married or in a long-term relationship is about much more than romance. It is about coming together with common goals and life visions. Our individual goals are important, but having someone who you can share your dreams, fears, and victories is priceless.
Unfortunately, too often, as we move forward on our path to personal success we leave out one of our greatest fans. The man who loves us and wants nothing but the best for us and truly does want to offer assistance and guidance (when requested); learning how to invite him in requires courage, humility, and trust.
You must be willing to communicate your ambitions, desires, and goals with the one you have selected to share your life. Or if you are single, now is the time to develop the skills to communicate these ideas with a future mate. Learning how to be supportive is not only about being there for your man. It is also about letting him be available for you. He wants to help you, if he is unaware of what you are thinking about; how can he be of assistance?
So, the next time you are feeling discouraged and alone in your quest for success. Think about the women I listed in the beginning of this article. They have found a healthy balance of individual success within a loving partnership/relationship. You can too. It is all about communication.
Here are a few questions for you:
- Do you have some misguided belief that you must pursue your desires alone? (The “Superwoman” syndrome; I don’t need a man. I don’t need anyone. I can do this on my own.)
- Does your beloved know about your secret ambitions and goals?
- If yes, good for you. If not, why not?
- Are you afraid to personally step up to your dreams and know that if you share with your partner you will need to finally take action?
- Are afraid of possible ridicule? (Fear is usually “Much ado about nothing.” Take that leap of faith; you deserve to live your best life.)
- Has your beloved ever been unkind about any personal goals you have shared with him? If not, then let him know what is on your mind… Remember you are in a partnership with this person.
So, if you are ready to put aside your fears, stop trying to be superwoman, and finally bring your beloved back into your life, but are unsure where to begin. Let’s talk, I am here for you. I believe in you and I want you to have a life that fulfills you and allows you to join the ranks of great women with a great guy standing “behind” her.

How do I get more people to visit my website? That is the number one question I get from my clients. So, I decided to put together a top 10 list that will work for both businesses and non-profit organizations.
- Make sure your website has your keywords in the META TAGS. This is probably the most important strategy to increase traffic to your site. Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo use "spiders" to crawl your website looking for clues as to what your site is all about. These meta tags make their search easier. In return, they give your website a higher ranking. Here is a suggested list of "Tag Locations" you should consider:
- Add your keyword or phrase in your web title
- Add your keywords in the first paragraph of your body text.
- Add your keywords in the ALT attribute of image tags.
- Make your website search engine friendly.
- Use your keywords in hyperlinks
- Add your listing on the internet. There are free listings for you to add your business information to such as Google Places for Business, Yahoo! Local, and Bing Local Listing Center. Make sure they can find you.
- Submit your site to Free Directories. There are business and non-profit directories on the internet that are focused on particular industries such as fashion or education. Even if you have to pay a small fee to be a part of these directories, it will give you and your business more exposure.
- Write Articles About Your Business. You can increase your traffic to your website when you write articles in your area of expertise and submit them to editors as free content for their websites. This is an effective “viral” approach that can lead hundreds of potential customers to your site over time.
- Create a Blog. If you have excellent content, people will more than likely link to it, increasing your site's search page ranking. Consistency and quality of the content are key.
- Join a Social Media Community. Some of the best online social media sites for businesses include Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Also, search for social networking communities that your market is concentrated in. For example, my major client base is African-American businesses. I joined Black Business Women Online, Blacks Network, and iZania.
- Join Online Forums and Groups. The Internet offers thousands of discussion lists, online forums, and groups consisting of people with specialized interests. You can join these sites and promote your business through interaction. Just search on Google, Bing, or Yahoo to find appropriate groups, blogs or other forums.
- Include Your Website's Address on Stationery, Cards, and Literature. Make sure that all business cards, stationery, brochures, and literature contain your company’s website. To go even a step further, place your business name and website on a t-shirt and wear it while you are out running errands.
- Use the “Signature” function in your Email Program. Most email programs allow you to create a “signature” at the bottom of your composed email. This signature should consist of: Company name, address, phone number, website, email address, and a one-phrase description of your unique business offering. Look for examples on email messages sent to you.
- Email A Monthly Newsletter. While it requires a commitment of creativity and time, creating a monthly email publication is one of the most important promotion techniques. It could be a newsletter, list of tips, industry updates, or new product information — whatever you believe your customers will appreciate. This is a great way to keep in touch with your current clients and prospects. I am starting my monthly newsletter (Small Business & Online Marketing Tips) this May! These are certainly not all of the ways to promote your site, but these tips will get you started. To effectively market your site, you need to spend time adapting these strategies to your own market and capacity. I hear this question so often from women who are feeling exhausted, neglected, and overwhelmed in their romantic relationships. They are struggling with the decision to stay or leave a relationship they feel has lost its appeal. They are unhappy and truly have no idea what their next step should be.
It is very sad because, my married ones or clients in long-term relationships are wondering if they will ever feel love again and my single clients (usually newly single) wonder if they will ever find love again. (FYI - my typical client is 40 to 48 years old women, with children in their teens to early 20's, and she is or has been in a long-term relationship that has lasted 10 years or longer.)
Does this sound like your current situation? If so, tell me:
- Do you long for days gone by when you and your beloved were still happy and deeply in love with each other?
- When was the last time your beloved treated you with adoration and affection?
- Are arguments becoming the main style of communication between the two of you?
Well, if you are at your “wits” end about what to do next in your relationship and are thinking… “Should I stay or should I leave?” I want you to stop for a moment and think very carefully about what I am about to share with you; being single will not solve the communication and intimacy issues you are experiencing. It may offer some temporary relief. But, the personal underlying communication issues that caused the disconnect will still remain. Even if you move on to another relationship.
And if you are single and reading this article, I want you to think back to your last relationship and think about how the lack of communication and previous questions played out in your last meaningful relationship. Did they have something to do with why you left?
As a relationship solutions coach, I talk to many frustrated women. Especially ladies who are suffering from regrets about past decisions they made in the process of maturing into the woman they are today. It is tough to look back over your life and realize you may not have fulfilled some or any of the goals you set for yourself as a younger woman.
You may have made a multitude of decisions that now feel like sacrifices for your children and significant other (husband or long-term boyfriend). And now, you may be working on life improvements and want to remove yourself from what feels like a life-draining situation. I have noticed so many women, who in the process of working on self-improvement, want to discard their man.
I personally think this is unfair unless, you have a man who truly does mistreat you.
For example:
- He is abusive
- An active addict or alcoholic whose behavior is destructive
- Or has other qualities that can potentially harm you; emotionally, mentally, physically, and/or spiritually.
If this is true then, I recommend you seek help and remove yourself from the situation as quickly as possible. You cannot help someone who is unwilling to help themselves. But, if you are basically using your man as a scapegoat for all the unexpressed unhappiness you are currently feeling in your life then, I want you to carefully read what I am about to say..
Far too many women have left a truly wonderful man and solid loving relationship because, her uncommunicated needs were going unmet and she did not truly understand how to invite her man back into her life to assist her. Why, because, she had emotionally disconnected from him and in her frustration started blaming him for being the cause of her dissatisfaction.
This is tragic because, most men do want to be there for the woman they love, but have no idea how to reach her once her walls have gone up and she starts to treat him like a nonessential part of her life.

I have been building my subscriber list for a few years now. It's had wear and tear, much of it because of my abuse. I switched focus, lost focus, tried different paths, different brands...all of the things new business owners tend to do when they're finding their way.
There are a ton of reasons people stay on your subscriber list. Many stay even when they're no longer getting value. Maybe it's because they like you as a person, though they don't have interest in your topic. Or maybe they forgot to disconnect at some point. Instead they just delete everything you send.
Perhaps, they find a few tidbits of information you've sent for free they could appreciate, but now that you're asking them to invest they are offended. The point is - my audience members came in for different reasons and stayed for different reasons.
The danger in this is at some point, you may find yourself with a huge list of people that DON'T CARE A THING ABOUT YOUR OFFER.
Signs of a list that needs to be downsized? You have dead silence when you're sending out market survey questions. You actually look at your metrics and find that your open rate is not only low, it's in the red. No one shows up for your special events that are only for your subscribers.
When these things are happening although you have list quantity, it's a good chance you have a list that needs to be downsized.
Recently I did a downsizing of my list. It gave me a sense of freedom I never thought I'd have. At first, I was afraid (♪ I was petrified ♫...I love that song...short digression...ok, back on track now). Seriously though, when you work hard to build a good sized list it can be very intimidating to even think about minimizing it or tearing it apart.
But I had to do it.
Ever heard of the law of the vacuum? Catherine Ponder talked about it in the book, The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity. It says something like, "Make room for the thing you desire by letting go of that which you do not appreciate or use. Give it away with a giving, charitable heart, and let the Universe compensate you." In other words, when you let go and make space you have more room to receive what's really meant for you.
I knew that downsizing my list would put me in a different place, giving me the freedom to really talk directly to an interested audience of people who want what I have to share. No more wondering "do they care?" or "is anybody listening?" And for them - the ones who were purged voluntarily from my list - I gave them back freedom, freedom to read and receive information they truly would find useful and immediately applicable.
So how did I do it? I'll break it down for you:
First, I used my email marketing service, Mailchimp (shout out - "eep eep"), to evaluate my list. They have some pretty decent analytics and along with a tool called Hairball, it was pretty easy to create a small list, or segment of people who were rated below a 3 rating. These ratings give you an idea of how often your emails are opened or clicked by the user, along with a few other stats. Your service may have a different way to show you this information.
The key is to figure out who is least active in your list over a period of time. By the way, I did not include users who were fairly new and still building a rating. Since they recently added themselves to the list, I assumed they have an interest in my content.
Second, I sent out an email to the folks in that group about 14 days before the purge date (you can adapt this to your comfort level). The subject line read something like "Only open this if you want to keep getting my emails!". I wanted to make it super easy for those who didn't open them anyway to take little to no action. Only the genuinely interested people would reply back to say "leave me on the list". And yes, I had several who read the email explaining my "Spring Cleaning List Purge" and they asked to stay on.
Great! That separated those who were missing in action, but still interested so I wouldn't remove them from the active list.
Third, on the date I'd set for myself I exported the segmented list (minus the ones who wanted to stay) and did a mass unsubscribe. I will admit, I was pretty nervous but after I clicked enter I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. It was like, "now I get to talk to people who really care to connect with me and to get the full benefit of my sharing".
Here was another added benefit I didn't think about until later. You know how many email service providers charge you based on your total count of subscribers? Well, I was able to reduce my own email marketing fees because of the reduced count. Cha-ching!
Now mind you, I would be fine paying more for a more responsive, targeted list. It was just a good reality check to realize that I was actually paying to keep people on my list who never really wanted the info anyway.
So that's my story...and I hope it connects with you in some way. Does it make you think about downsizing your own list? Don't you think that having 100 or 200 or 500 people who really connect with your message is better than having thousands who don't get it and won't take action at all?
As a business owner, we have choices to make for the good of our customers and ourselves. I chose to downsize for peace of mind and it was one of the best decisions I've made so far in my business.

Men… delightful, scrumptious, and wonderful men; I love men. I think they are amazing and interesting. I love the way they look, sound, and process life. But, if loving a man has ever left you feeling confused and frustrated. You are not alone. I admit, men can be some of the most mysterious “creatures” at times. We love them, long for them, and at times want to shake them until some type of emotional response occurs. What is a woman to do?

Knowing this little secret can almost instantly change the dynamics of your relationships with men.

• What are his ambitions? (Listen with an open-mind, even if you think his ambitions are impossible or unrealistic. They are his dreams; be supportive.)
Understanding how to ask good questions is a talent that is underestimated. When you show a real interest in a man as a person; a man will find you fascinating as well. And here's the sweet part; when you follow the above suggestions, a man will find himself thinking about you and he will find a reason; a deep need to spend more time with you. Because, for him, he will have found a woman who is charming, easy to talk to, and whose company he enjoys. This is a win/win situation for both of you.
