According to Merriam-Webster.com, one definition of “victorious” is:
- having won a victory
- of, relating to, or characteristic of victory
This led me to look up the definition of “victory,” which is achievement of mastery or success in a struggle or endeavor against odds or difficulties.
Here are a few characteristics I believe all victorious women possess:
- She knows how to let go of the past and other things that may hold her back so she can step into a brighter future. A victorious woman knows it does no good to hold on to grudges or allow what happened in the past to hold her hostage. She understands that to move into the successful life she deserves and desires, she must forgive and let go.
- She finds a way to make her dreams come true. A victorious woman realizes that she has her dreams for a reason and that God didn’t give her her desires without a way to make them happen. She knows that the road may be long and have bumps and curves, but she also knows that she can and will find a way to bring her dreams and desires to fruition.
- A victorious woman isn’t defined by other people’s opinions of her. She knows that people will have their thoughts about her and what she does, but she knows that, at the end of the day, the only opinion that truly matters is her own and God’s. She understands that what is really important is walking in her calling and doing what she’s been purposed to do.
- She lets go of the idea of being perfect or “Superwoman.” A victorious woman realizes there’s no such thing as being perfect (i.e., flawless); she knows that she can and should be the best she can be. And she continuously strives for excellence and works on being the best version of herself.
- She stays away from negative situations and people. Although she may have to deal with them at times, a victorious woman does not constantly stay in situations that are negative and energy-draining, nor does she hang around individuals who continuously complain, gossip or who never have anything positive to say or contribute. She knows that she must surround herself with positivity.
- A victorious woman never lets defeat have the last word. She knows that her journey in life won’t always be easy or lined with gold. She knows that she will fall down, fail and have disappointments. But, a victorious woman always picks herself up, dusts herself off and keeps it moving until she reaches her destination!

Email Marketing
Email is still the most effective form of marketing and relationship building. It's a tremendous tool for building the kind of long-term relationship that allows you to convert sales. While many have concluded that the same thing cannot be said for social media relationships, you can and should view your connections in these networks as a way to gain more email relationships.
Referral Champs
By comparing your customer referral data with your social media data, you can often discover your more active and potentially influential customers and prospects. A customer who currently does not buy from you that much may turn out to be your greatest potential referral champion, but they may go unnoticed and therefore ungroomed without looking.
Know Your Customers
You need to dig deep and really find out what makes your customers tick on all levels. That means knowing what their interests and hobbies are, what events they love to attend, their favorite music and TV shows, and how much they love reading to their kids. You might guess where this is headed: What do people on social media love to do? Talk about what they had for lunch and how they can further build their business. So it just might be important after all to really know your customers and potential customers.
Article Writing
Great content isn't great until somebody reads it, shares it, and links to it. It’s almost like the popular kids in high school, but that’s just the reality of inbound marketing today. It’s not enough to produce lots of content; you've got to get people talking about it and bringing attention to it.
Blogging, Blogging, Blogging ...
One of my favorite uses of the social media layer is the ability to draw closer to other bloggers that cover your industry or community. Today’s bloggers rely on social media as a lifeline to real-time information and as a tool for collecting resources; it also makes them much more available through direct communication. By targeting key bloggers and using the social layer to build a relationship as a resource, you can quickly enhance your overall chances of media coverage.

Eventually in your business you’ve probably considered or are forced to increasing your fees or prices. And for many doing so without losing your most valuable clients/customers comes with a level of anxiety and perhaps fear. Will they go to another competitor? Will they begin to bad mouth me and tarnish my reputation? Will they simply laugh at me and threaten to leave if I raise my prices another penny (Continue reading)

Over the past few years, I have taken the liberty to research several direct sales (home party planning) businesses…from companies who were start-up to companies in business for years. I must say it was fun trying new products and testing the market’s wants and needs. Most importantly, it was fun learning about myself and what I want in my business and any company that I represent.
Since The Body Shop At Home closed in 2009, I felt very lost. You see, that was the very first company and experience that I had with direct sales. I loved everything from the products, parties, people I met, and everything the company stood for. I loved the women I had became really great friends with and the joy of conference each year. I was with TBSAH for a little over 3 years and there was nothing I would have changed about my experience.
Their closing the US Division came as a sudden shock to me and I found myself at a lost on what company I would devote my time to. And let’s not forget the income I had grown to enjoy and need to support my family. For more than 3 years, I had built a prosperous business and team!
Unsure of what to do, I jumped on the first opportunity that came my way. It was a chance to experience and grow in the Romance Industry. I did a little research about the specific industry and learned that it was lucrative to be a romance specialist, but quickly learned the late night parties and “fun” entertainment was not going to work for my family. Although I was in the top 10 (in the company) for sales and recruiting, I had begun the search for another direct sales company that was more suitable for my family’s lifestyle and needs.
So I began my search again. I thought if I embarked on the journey of a newly launched direct sales company, I would have longevity and guaranteed success with the company and in the industry of direct sales. I had received a call from my previous director at TBSAH and she had fell upon a skincare and baked mineral makeup (of italian artistry) company that was ground floor. I became consultant #45. Although I said to myself after TBSAH, that I would never go back into skincare and cosmetics, I found myself on the same road. And it was rough. I tried building a business for about a year before I called it quits. I called it quits because I realized that I wasn’t a makeup person and I found myself trying to be something that I truly was not. I hardly wear makeup and don’t have a clue as to what colors blend with what or how to even apply professional makeup.
So here I thought the best way to go was with newly launched companies…it was just that I picked one that I had no expertise or interest in.
I was approached by a friend about Vault Denim – a designer jean home party planning company. I remember the conversation very well…”Kat, did you ever hear about this new jean company? OMG! Our friends will go crazy over designer jeans for less!”. I looked in to the company and it was only $99 to join, so we really had nothing to lose or did we. The thing about this company is that you carry no inventory and it was totally new to our area. The closest regional coordinator (who checked the jeans in and out between the local reps) was about an hour away. And she had just gotten the inventory a day or two after we signed up. So at that time, we had not seen the actual product we would be selling. Boy, was that a bad choice. When we did get a chance to see the inventory for my very first party, it was not what we had imagined. The brands that we thought and were told by our recruiter would be included, were not a part of the inventory or company stock.
Newly launched company sign up gone bad.
I stayed low and decided to do some soul searching about what I really wanted and desired in a company and business venture. I knew that I enjoyed helping women build businesses, incomes, themselves and their lives. So direct sales was something that I couldn’t stay away from. As I was still in search for the RIGHT company, I was approached by AnyArt – a newly launched direct sales company who desired to build a nationwide salesforce. They wanted to sign me up to help them grow a nationwide team. I had to check out their products first and make sure it was something I could attach my name to. Of course, I’ve learned from the past that it was important tosee the product first. So I ordered a custom oil painting and fell in love! The products are superb and a quality of no other. I loved the fact that I now owned a custom painting and could offer the same choice to someone just like me.
So why did I call it quits with AnyArt? I learned that when you are with a newly launched company, it costs a lot to brand the company name and get people to trust you and the products/company. They are also in what I call the “discovery” phase. They are trying to figure out what hostess programs work and whether they should focus on sales or recruiting. You’re also more by yourself than on a team. And it was a struggle for me. I knew what I finally wanted and was missing from my direct sales business!
I was looking for the same “team” network, values, and structure that I missed from TBSAH.
I’m approached by people almost every day about their business opportunity. They always want me to join their team and of course, they tell you all the great benefits of their company. And trust me, every company is great, but the most important question is, is it great for you!
How did I get with Thirty-One Gifts? Well, whenever I did a craft show or vending event, I would always find myself near the Thirty-One table. I began to notice that everyone was carrying a Thirty-One product. I, myself, LOVE the tote bags and started to tally up and mark the catalog on what products I wanted. I told myself, if the total was over the price of the starter kit, I would just join for the discount. Well, my total was WAY OVER the kit price of $99 and I decided to join. I would have never deeply looked at the business opportunity if it wasn’t for who I would call mysister. She just so happened to call me when I was about to sign up and told me what an amazing culture Thirty-One had. I switched gears and started to look at Thirty-One as a business opportunity.
Thirty-One reminds me so much of what I had with TBSAH. It is all about celebrating, encouraging, and rewarding women. It fosters a culture of a team whose helpful and dedicated to see you succeed. It was the values of helping the community and others (Thirty-One Gives Foundation) and all the systems, policies, and procedures in place that attracted me. Thirty-One is about 8 years old, so it’s not a new company, but it can very much be new to your area. What I love most is that it is a faith based company named after Proverbs 31 – verse on the virtuous woman.
My search has ended and I have found a new home…a more stable, encouraging, and more me.
Do you dream of starting your own business? Do you know what skills and traits are needed to be a successful entrepreneur? More importantly, do you think you have what it takes? This article will touch on 7 of the most important traits of a successful entrepreneur.
- Self confidence – the successful entrepreneur is noticeably confident. Self confidence is an extremely important characteristic for the successful entrepreneur. Before you start your business, you should feel confident in your abilities and trust yourself and your unique set of skills. When and if the time comes, the successful entrepreneur knows how to summon the drive and determination needed to achieve his dream of starting his own business. He should be confident enough to tackle adversity and resolve any problems that could interfere with his dream.
- Risk taker – successful entrepreneurs don’t always play it safe. They know when to trust their instincts and act on a hunch. Some of the greatest business ventures in history started from a simple “gut feeling” or “hunch”. Let’s face it, there’s always the risk of loss or failure, but the successful entrepreneurs is not afraid to take that chance.
- Fiscally fit - the successful entrepreneur is careful with his finances. He understands the value of money and is usually very particular about his expenditures for his business as well as in his personal life. He may have learned the value of money at an early age; maybe as a teenager who mowed lawns after school or a little boy who took the neighbors trash out every evening.
- Good Intuition – some entrepreneurs claim to “just know” (hunch) if a product or service is going to be a success. No, they aren’t psychic, most likely they just really pay attention to what’s going on in the world around them. They pay attention to the latest trends and are usually active in their industry in some way.
- Competitive nature – the business world is highly competitive regardless of the industry you’re in. The successful entrepreneur knows he must be aggressive if he wants to achieve his dream. He doesn’t feel threatened by his competitors and is always looking for ways to make his business stand out from the crowd. He’s not afraid to work hard to be successful.
- Honorable habits – the successful entrepreneur has a good work ethic. He welcomes suggestions and criticism from his customers or clients and diligently looks for ways to improve his business products and services based on those suggestions. He believes that good work ethic will lead to better business practices, improved business reputation and good standing among industry peers and business associates.
- Vacation time – the successful entrepreneur recognizes the importance of leisure time. He knows when it’s time to step back and relax and spend quality time with family and friends. Taking time away from the hectic business world rejuvenates our mind and body and allows us to better deal with the stresses and strains that inevitably come with having our own business.
There you have it – 7 of the most important traits of a successful entrepreneur.
Keep in mind that just because you possess some or all of these traits there is never a guarantee that you will be successful. These are but a few of the ingredients in the recipe for success. If you do happen to possess these traits, congratulations! You have a solid foundation to start building your success.

Both career women and those in business have faced many obstacles in past decades and unfortunately, still today. Women in the workforce have battled glass ceilings, unequal pay for equal production and undeserved stereotypical barriers. As business prototypes have changed with the advent and growth of the internet, so have the unique issues encountered by women in business. Below are five of these challenges and solutions to overcome and achieve success.
Challenge 1: Lack of Cash Flow
Even the most brilliant business plan will fail without sufficient cash flow. Simply put, cash flow can be loosely defined as "cash in" (as generated by revenue) and "cash out" (to pay the expenses incurred to achieve "cash in." Inadequate cash flow can stifle a business into failure.
Let’s just get real… your creditors, employees or suppliers don’t care about your cash flow woes. They want to be paid in a timely manner!
Solution:To simplify this problem, as well as correct it, look at all facets of the balance sheet and income statement. Is there a lag time between the time you have to pay your creditors, suppliers and employees and when you collect from your customers? If so, you must pinpoint the problem areas and take necessary steps to correct them.
Four quick solutions to manage your cash flow:
- Consider factoring. In factoring, a business owner sells accounts receivable at a discount to a third-party funding source that pays invoices immediately. Chris Lehres, a loan officer for Versant Funding says, “A wide range of companies in a multitude of industries, including some with a negative net worth, that are losing money, and often even companies in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy are eligible for factoring services.”
- Open a line of credit. A line of credit is a standard service provided by many banks and credit unions that serve small businesses. Your banker can best discuss the benefits of a business line of credit.
- Offer several payment options to your clients, such as Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or pay pal.
- Track your receivables. Have a collection process in place so that you have a protocol to handle aging invoices.
Challenge 2: Undefined Niche
To Niche or Not to Niche…that is the question. What is a niche? A niche business is one that targets a very specific group of people with specific shared interest. A business with an undefined niche is like a ship sailing in shallow water.
By creating a niche business allows you to market to your ideal clients. For example, if you were a behavioral psychologist targeting teens, you would market your services in places where parents are likely to find out about you; such as advertising in parent magazines, providing resources to local middle and high schools or joining organizations geared towards parents.
Solution:By understanding who and where your ideal customers are; it is easy to craft a marketing plan to target them. Here are three easy ways to target your potential clients:
- Improve your website’s SEO with specific key words
- Generate exposure locally and virtually with professional speaking, seminars or publishing a book or articles.
- Craft a clear message that speak at the heart of your customer
Challenge 3: Not Understanding the Power of Referral Marketing
For years, the mantra for success in marketing was "cold calling." Today, we know that cold calling is ineffectual, especially when compared to referral marketing. Referral marketing is promoting your business thru referrals and word of mouth networking to more effectively gain sales.
When comparing referral marketing to cold calling, think of it as sowing grass seed. It is much easier to grow grass from seeds if you know how fertile the ground is. You can scatter a handful of seeds over a wide area of dirt and some of it may, or may not, take root.
Solution: Find others with whom to network and collaborate to gain sales. For instance, if your business sells cars, you might collaborate with a local automobile service company with the result that the purchase of a car includes a certificate for a free oil change from the car servicing business. Both businesses benefit and just increased the likelihood for repeat business.
Challenge 4: No Social Media Plan
Random tweets and meandering Facebook posts will result in a lot of time devoted to zero results. Before making another useless post, sit down with pen and paper and make a list of what you want to achieve from social media. To which social media do you belong? What are some social media marketing strategies that you have noticed from other companies? What do you have that will offer value? You may find that your company is spread a little too thin across the social media spectrum. Quality truly is superior to quantity in this respect.
Solution: Create a social media marketing plan and stay the long haul. Establishing a strong presence can be a very time consuming process. It is unwise to expect your list of fans, followers or subscribers to grow overnight.
Challenge 5: No Strategic Plan (after 3 years in business)
Without a strategic plan, a business can become stagnant in the mire of what is immediately going on, rather than focusing on long-term goals. Successful businesses recognize the critical need for strategic planning and it is an ongoing process - it is never finished.
Solution:An effective strategic planning process allows small businesses to take control of their future and stay focused on the essential areas that will result in sustained periods of growth and success. Here are six tips to help you in the planning process:
- Assess the Current Business Environment
- Focus on Important (SWOT) Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats
- Define (or Redefine) the Company’s Mission and Goals
- Start with An End In Mind
- Establish Mini Milestones
- Plan for Follow Through

I WAS THAT GIRL...THE ONE WHO THOUGHT SHE HAD TO FIX EVERYTHING, CONTROL EVERY OUTCOME AND JUST BE IN CONTROL ALL THE TIME. Until I had a revelation...FEAR is a manmade myth and that when I learn to LET GO I gain control...enjoy the blog post below where I share my insight into my revelation and how you can uncover the same journey for yourself. ~Katrina
======================================================================
I started my day as normal, clear focused intentions, meditation time and time to give thanks. I’m ready to hit my day swinging focusing on my W.I.N. and making things happen because that’s what creatives do. Then it hit me….my video camera battery was completely out and the video I needed to record early this morning to send to my list for registration to my 21 Day challenge was already 3 hours late. My kids were in full fledge “mommy! mommy!” mode and I felt the twinge of “ugh” reach my belly – an all to familiar feeling of…”FEAR”
I know the signs…frustration, annoyance “why didn’t I charge the camera up last night!!!” and even the feeling of putting off my objective for today for another day (procrastination). ALL the ugly signs of FEAR that in the past would mean I would find myself “fighting” to get through the day, needing to make sacrifices instead of choices. I wasn’t having it…afterall I wrote the book on learning to “let go” and Embrace the real journey of your life. No way I was going to start tripping today.
Instead I did what I have learned to do…I told FEAR to buzz off…in my Martin Lawrence voice I told it to “Get to Steppin’” because I know now that FEAR isn’t real. It’s a manufactured emotion we’ve created when the perception of the world doesn’t happen the way we “think” it should. In other words…I ignored the fear and instead found courage to make a different choice.
Why is Fear a Myth?
It would take me an entire book to explain how I have come and am still evolving to learn that FEAR is a big ole nasty myth that we’ve all purchased, but to put it in few words. Fear is a myth because all that there is is LOVE and ABUNDANCE. We’ve been conditioned to accept fear because we have also been conditioned that we cannot control but should fight to control everything. You know…the client that doesn’t respond to the email fast enough or even the partner that doesn’t seem to “get” your point of view in business or maybe the product launch that isn’t selling. We feel as though we have to fight every battle in life…with only a few worth fighting. All those creepy thoughts that love to remind you that ‘fear” is a constant thing we must FIGHT-{a daily battle of external manifestations that don’t add up to our PERCEPTION of the world}. The constant reminder of Fear that we’re not good enough, smart enough, have enough money, our kids don’t do enough or fear that we’re not working hard enough to push past generational curses that we are determined not to repeat. So we MUST fight.

Gone are the days where you have to leave your home from sun up to sun down to track down people to sell your products and services to. Gone are the days of calling hundreds of people per day to get a potential lead or so. If you are like most people, time is of the essence and while the old school techniques listed above still work and work very well, if you have a family and a life, the old school techniques may not always be practical.
So how does one attract people to talk to you may be asking? This is done by simply adding an attraction marketing system component to the business strategy. The attraction marketing philosophy is all about positioning yourself to be tracked down as opposed to you going out and tracking other people down. Attraction marketing is all about people knocking on your door and asking you for information about YOU, YOUR Products and YOUR Services versus you pitching you down everyone’s throat each and every time that you find the opportunity to do so.
This style of marketing can pretty much work for any type of business and is ideal for those in the direct sales, network marketing, or multi-level marketing arena. By cutting down the amount of time you spend chasing new business, it increases the amount of time you have to promote your products and attract people to you. The cool thing is that the people you attract will not only want to purchase your products , but they’ll also desire your success and want to potentially join you in your business or form partnerships with you. This is a very simple attraction marketing formula and it is not technical at all.
Attraction marketing is about you first and foremost. Your business is all about you first and foremost. No matter how great your products and services are, it all begins with you. If you aren’t attractive, no one will ever give you the opportunity to share just how great that anything else that you are associated with is. This is a universal law! Luckily, this is a skill that you can grow into!
Think about this! Today, virtually everyone is looking for ways to generate additional income. There are also hundreds of people who are currently in businesses who are looking to switch their business for various different reasons or another. The downside is that it seems that everyone and their grandmother are pitching things down people’s throats on a daily basis and so what people are saying in their heads is “what makes you any different from the man or woman that said the same thing yesterday?” We’ve heard it ALL before. This is why it is all about you and how you differentiate yourself from the guy yesterday!
