The Search Was Worth It

Greetings All,I wanted to take the time and share something with you. On Tuesday July 29, 2008 after searching for almost a year, I had finally gotten the opportunity in speaking to Dr. Evelyn Bethune, Mary McLeod Bethune's Granddaughter, my cousin, on Wednesday evening July 30, 2008 and I must say what a great opportunity for me and my family to finally be able to make this connection and how important it is for our history and for where we will be lead towards in the now and the future. Our history does have a huge impact on which direction we must take in order to fully understand that the work we do must be of excellence in representing our community, our children, our families and how these corporations have to be apart of our everyday life including building networks. What Evelyn stressed to me was the fact that our work can't be something that is taken lightly whether we are given public honor or not, but knowing that we are doing all that we can in making a change within ourselves in order to move on into greater destines in building up a people like never before. The power is ours we just have to believe it.I understand that the lessons that I am learning and will learn will only help me to build on what I have begun, so that I can pass on to another without giving it a second thought. For me being able to speak to someone that close to Dr. Bethune was a result of me not giving up my search in finding her and the rest of the family. Now if I can do the same with all that I am trying to accomplish then the end results are surely going to be rewarding whether large or small.Dr. Bethune and many others are examples of what we still can accomplish whether it is embraced fully or not, whether it reaps all the rewards that we hope and desire or whether it takes longer than expected.I want to travel that road with you...will you..?Dr. Evelyn Bethune's website: www.intothelightllc.com

Sin City

Mountain peaks reach the tip of the atmosphereSky lines of gloryPrecious stonesScorching summer breezesCool nightsLuminous lightsConstant chatterInterchangeable spaceThere is more to Las Vegas…I love this city but in all honesty she has done absolutely nothing for me and you know what; I never expected her to. I knew it was up to me, ya dig? It was by being here that I was pushed to grow, learn and remember who I am. Like everyone else, I forgot.I was born in the city but raised in the country. I have experienced the best of both atmospheres. I have come to know the fastness of the metropolis pace and I have discovered how to appreciate the slow crawl of the countryside. This town can never be duplicated. At the same time it is both city and what I will call confederate, both speedy and sluggish, both sophisticated and thuggish, both smooth and rugged. So I had to send a shout out to the city of what we refer to as just Vegas. Leaving this place will allow me to prosper plenty but as I think back, there is nothing like Sin City.Copyright 2008Literary Thought

What is it that you want?

You approached me and you acted as if you knew who I wasSo that led me to assume that you must know who you areBut is it really safe for me to guess that?Should I trust your word when my soul tells me different?“Wow, now that’s a woman.” you said. You said that like you saw what was within me.You said that like you knew I was a QueenBut did you really look? And if you did, what did you see?Because if you actually saw what was inside of meI would think you would be bringing you’re “A” game right? You would be stepping like a true King right?I wouldn’t have to wonder right? But instead, I am wonderingI am wondering what’s within youI am wondering if you actually want to get to know MeI am wondering if you are the truthI am wondering if you really know who I amI am wondering if you are the man who can be with meI’m wondering…What is it that you want?Come on, come on, I don’t have much time to playIf you are not truth, go ahead and show yourselfI have other things to doI am a woman on the move and I do not have the energy to be trying to figure youI need to be creating and participatingI do not have the patience to be on the sideline waitingSo do me a favor…Man upSpeak upFess upAnd tell me…What is it that you want?!Copyright 2008Literary Thought

Suitable Cure

What will you do when the high no longer numbs you and it’s just you and your thoughts? You say that you are strong and full of might but without that artificial fix, your mind just doesn’t feel right.Your psyche tells you to do things that make you seem insane. There are voices lingering in your head calling you by name. What will you do when the substance doesn’t elevate you like it used to?What will take place when that closet weakness that rules you is no longer subdued? Will you give up living and permit the evils to reign? What will you turn to when you can not withstand the hidden anguish and pain?Have you ever considered going within to find a suitable cure?Or is seeking inside of yourself too much for your soul to endure? There is a Sourceful Bliss that might actually do you some good. You look as if you need the help. I would assist you but only if I could. For you must see that all that you seek is within you.Once you surpass this illusion you shall be closer to finding You.But it’s your life and your experience; don’t go by what I say is true.I have found peace with me and it is reality that I will continue to pursue.Basking in the Light is where I am.But you seem to enjoy darkness and that is your choice so I understand. You have been ok for this long so I will leave you be…I’ll go on my way and continue to do me.Literary ThoughtCopyright 2008

Hey there young girl

Hey there young girl…Let me holler at you for a secondI have noticed you walking down the block several times and the way you sway caused to me to think of these questions that I want to askIt will only take a minute because I can see that you are moving pretty fastIs your mother in your life? And if so, what is she like?Does she walk with her head up with her eyes on a particular sight?Does she swear and curse or does she use words of intellectual delight?Does she wear inappropriate clothing so everyone can see or does she carry herself as a material masterpiece? Is she often absent from your surroundings or does she stick by your side to show you what a woman should be?Has she told you about Sister Betty Shabazz, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Maya Angelou, Ida B. Wells and Queen Nefertiti?Has she yet to introduce you to the Queens before you?Does she teach you what is within you and who you can be or does she just leave it for your judgment to see? When she addresses you, is your name princess or a woman of royalty?Or does she call you names of all negative sorts and mold you with her words telling you who you will turn out to be?Hey there young girl…There is just one more thing I would like to know.Has she taught you who you really are or is all of this just for show?Copyright 2008Literarythought

Going Through The Awkward Stage

Recently, I spoke, with a client, who is struggling getting into a new venture she has begun. Although, she is enthusiastic about it, and has been working with it for a while, every time she hits a rough, patch, she puts the entire endeavor on the shelf, and goes on to do something she has no real passion for. When I asked her why she keeps doing that, she said, because it doesn't take any real energy to to do this other project, "...And I don't feel like an idiot". She feels comfortable, in other words, because it doesn't test or pull her away from her comfort zone doing what she already knows. But doing what you already know, isn't getting you where you want to go, I reminded her. She said, she knew, but didn't know what to do to feel differently about it.I often refer people to Jack Canfield's book The Success Principles because he offers such good practical advice; it's one of my favorite reference sources when my friends, and family, or clients get stuck. Jack has a small passage in one of the chapters called Going Through The Awkward Stage. He quotes a consultant in this particular segment, Marshall Thurber who say's what we've probably hear a million times, that "...Anything work doing well is worth doing badly in the beginning."The problem for my client isn't that she doesn't know this already, but that she doesn't know how to get past her own thoughts of inadequacies to get to the good stuff, her passions realized. So I told her, basically, what Jack says in this passage. Jack states that, "...As children, thoughts of inadequacies, although you may have had them, never got in the way of your learning how to ride a bike, or learning how to play a game, for example. You understood that you were going to fumble, and assumed awkwardness was part of what was required to learn that new skill. As we grow older, we tend to think awkwardness in learning a new skill is suppose to wane, and that we should just know how to do a particular thing upon initiating it or maybe after the first time having done it. But to our surprise, we are as clumsy as we were when we were children. The difference is children give themselves permission to be clumsy, until adults come along and put limits on just how many mistakes it should take to get something right, and by the time we reach adulthood, we have whittled it down to just about zero mistakes allowed in getting something right. There are very few things in life that are done perfectly, the first time. I won't go into how many dishes I have had to toss in the trash. And I still can't make the perfect souffle, but I'll keep trying. The point I wanted to get across to my client, is that, to gain a new skill or get better at anything you want to do, as Jack says, you have to be willing to keep on going in the face of looking foolish and feeling stupid for a timeAll passions have that awkward stage you have to go through, to get to the ultimate thrill. So, for anyone who feels as my client does, learn to become a child during this phase, and just enjoy the experience along the way.

Going Up?

Some elevators are equipped with a porter that asks you upon entering, on the ground floor, what floor? And you tell him/her what floor you need to go to, and they press the button and the elevator lifts you upward to that floor. Other times we may enter an empty elevator, and have to press the button ourselves to take us to the floor we want to go. And then there are those times, when you enter the elevator and someone just happens to be standing the closest to the buttons, and is polite enough to ask what floor you want, and press the button for you.Life is sometimes like an elevator. When you start on the ground floor, there are those whose job it is to elevate you. Then there are times that, by your own doing, you elevate yourself. And, if fortune has it, there are those remaining times, when you run into a certain kind of person, who offers to freely, assist in elevating you. These of course are the, internally pleasant times, when things are going as expected, or according to process. And you feel positive, and assured of your destination. But what about those times when nothing seems to be going as expected, or according to process? Have you ever gotten on an elevator when it has gotten stuck, or ended up on a floor you weren't suppose to be on and have felt confused, flustered, or frustrated, or worse, have you ever ended up in the creepy basement, or subbasement, where you get that eerie feeling, of alone 'ness'?When things in life don't go as planned, the internal elevator can also feel as though it has gotten stuck, or has stopped on the wrong floor. And feeling flustered, frustrated, and confused, can soon come into play. And if things really go south, you can feel as though you've landed in the creepy basement, or subbasement, where doom and gloom can manifest, and the woe is me, can set in.The good thing about being on a real elevator ride, is that when you get stuck, someone eventually comes to your rescue, or if you land on the wrong floor, you know you can just step back on the elevator, and press the right button, and get yourself to the floor you intended to go to in the first place. And once you've happily arrive, you continue on to your destination, and soon, vaguely remember, the incident. In life, when you get stuck or find yourself in the wrong place, not where you planned to be, and at a lost for resolution that would put you happily back in route to your destination, you can become overwhelmed. The difference between our internal elevator, and the external elevator is, when the external elevator ride that goes awry, the fight or flight choice kicks in, and almost instinctively, you choose to fight. When you get stuck, you call for help, by pressing the alarm, that's fighting. When you get back on the elevator after getting off on the wrong floor, and press the right button to get to the right floor, that's fighting. Finding yourself in the basement, when the elevator door opens, curiosity, may set in for a moment, and you'll peak out to see whats out there, but immediately after, you press the button for the doors to close and take you where you meant to go, this is also fighting. And when this sort of fighting is done, the problem get's resolved. When faced with a challenge in life that makes you feel stuck, or sends your internal elevator down into the basement of your emotions, where you feel that alone 'ness', or doom and gloom, woe is me, you have to fight, as well. The same goes for when you find yourself on the wrong floor of your intentions, and you become confused, flustered or frustrated, you must fight. Allowing these unexpected or unwanted events to get the better of you, so that your confusion, frustration, disappointment, alone 'ness', doom and gloom, and woe is me, take hold and cause you lose yourself, and your sense of destiny, is giving in to them.Wallace D. Wattles, wrote in his book, "The Science of Getting Rich" That the hardest activity for a human being is to think the Truth regardless of appearances. In Succeed Magazine, the author of How To Deal With The Down Times, wrote that each one of us has unlimited boundless potential, money is unlimited, health is unlimited, happiness, is unlimited, love is unlimited, The universe is unlimited, God is unlimited. What we do is create the limitation by looking at our past or present conditions and circumstances. To move out of any sort of a slump we 'must' look to the future and we 'must' look at what 'must' go right instead of what may go wrong." And I would add is going wrong."(Think of the poem Don't Quit.)When on a real elevator ride to a destination, whether its leaving a building or going somewhere in the building, we wouldn't dream of quitting, or losing our sense of destiny. You look to the future of that elevator ride, whether its arriving at a meeting, or out into the world to get home. And of course what must go right, and what is your thinking, is your making it to those destinations. Most things that happen, on the road to getting where we want to go are par for the course, which is why Whattles says, you have to look beyond, these things, These things that happen on the way to getting what you want, uncomfortable as they may be, are oopses, and bloopers, the truth (your success) is still there waiting for your arrival. Your destination is still your destination. And it is definite, it is truth. So how do you push the button, on your internal elevator, when you have unexpectedly, or unwisely, gotten stuck or landed on the wrong floor, and need to get back to your destination? Succeed Magazine, gives a few suggestions.1. Go for a 15 minute brisk walk and overload your mind with positive affirmations about yourself. Say: "I will win. Why? Because I have Faith, Courage and Enthusiasm." or "I was created after the image and likeness of God, therefore all the power that created the universe is also within me, to co-create my world exactly how I want it to be. I feel total abundance flowing to me now!" Talk these aloud ... even shout them out!2. Get VERY clear and specific about how you want your life to look. "Without hope people perish." Whenever we are down it is because we are not clear about what we want in our lives or we are not focused on it. You MUST take time EVERY SINGLE DAY to write out your new life and meditate on it. The more emotion and energy you dedicate to it the more rapidly your life will change.3. Put on some lively music.4. Call a friend who looks at what can go right. We get so buried in our own emotional stuff that we cannot see outside. A person who is not emotionally involved in the situation and supports you and your dreams can be the biggest asset you have.5. Get to work! Just start working on a project or something to take your mind off what could go wrong.6. Take time every day to write out 20 solutions. Do this for 7 days and do not stop each day until you have 20 solutions.7. Listen to a personal development CD every day. Here are a few more, I've added.1. (If you follow the Laws Of Attraction teachings, Personal Development teachings.) Take out your dream board. And become a kid again, step inside your dream board and spend some time there. Enjoying the amenities, and relationships, adventures, goals you have put on it. Whatever you have on your dream board, is meant to be experienced. (If you haven't made yours, make it.2. Laugh. Always have a good joke book, or your favorite comedy movie near you, or some means, or method to obtain laughter.3. Dance, or sing happy carefree songs about how great you are, and your life is. (Simple, and effective. It gets the adrenaline going.)4. This may seem far fetched, but suck on a lemon, or eat a hot pepper. They stimulated the reactions.5. Have a hobby. Hobbies are things you like to do that unconditionally love you. They're your like pets. It doesn't matter if you are good, or suck at your hobbies, you just enjoy them, and they let you.6. EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)7. Eat healthy.Don't push the negative emotions back, or cover them up, for appearances purposes. TKO, the negative emotion. Practice E+R=O. Event+Response = Outcome. Push your internal elevator button, so you can get back up to your right level of feeling positive, and back to continuing toward your destination.

The Perfect KISS

"Decide upon your major definite purpose in life and then organize all your activities around it." Brian Tracy

A 'Keep It Simple System', that's perfect.A week ago my mother had her 86th birthday. My youngest son, always likes to invite a few of his friends to his family members birthday's. These are young people, a couple of years out of college, and one just completed his tour of duty with the US Army. All of them are trying to move in the direction of some form of stable vocation, but one of them has hit some rough patches because of lack of jobs in her chosen field, another has second thoughts about her chosen field, and the third has begun a family, and so has taken a good paying position but not in his chosen field, so is not committed to the position. When I ask any of them what they are going to do? They say the same things, I really don't know. No ones hiring. Its not easy. I thought I knew what I wanted now I'm not sure. I wish I had some other choices. I could go back to school. I'm going to wait and see what happens. I'll just keep looking. I don't care anymore, I just want a job. My life has changed. I have a family to feed now, etc. Then when I asked them, "What is it you would want to do, if you could? There is silence, and then the well I could, list of things, begin, until eventually we're back to the same confused place we started. I recognize the problem, because I was young once, and didn't quite know what my life purpose was, I chose one path, that wasn't my true path, throw in a few choices, and another few circumstances, and you wake up one day, walking through a maze, of your own creation. The best way out of the maze is the 'Keep it simple system', which is simply, "Know your purpose." Rather than try to fit you, the square peg, into the round hole, or go on a wild goose chase searching for the square hole, know that, if you are the square peg, you are also the square hole.Jack Canfield states in The Success Principles, "Without purpose in life, it's easy to get sidetracked on your life's journey. It's easy to wonder and drift, accomplishing little."Finding out what your life's purpose is, doesn't have to be complicated although it might take a little effort in identifying, and acknowledging it. But one does not have to invest, time and energy in a psychological vocational test to tell them what they would be best suited to do with their life. Everyone is born with the natural resource to do all that is needed to find ones life purpose, It's called your inner guidance system."It is the soul's duty", say's Dame Rebecca West, "To be loyal to its own desires. It must abandon itself to its master passion."Our inner guidance system lets us know, when we are on and off our purpose, which is why we can sometimes find ourselves confused about which where to go. The confusion comes from the pulling away in the opposite direction of the things that bring us the greatest joy, it creates in us an internal struggle.Jack adds, "With purpose, everything in life seems to fall into place. To be 'on purpose' means you're doing what you love to do, doing what you're good at and accomplishing what's important to you. When you truly are on purpose, the people, resources, and opportunities you need naturally gravitate toward you. The world benefits, too, because when you act in alignment with your true life's purpose, all of your actions automatically serve others. So my suggestion to these young people is to do what Jack say's "take the time to understand what you are here to do, and then pursue it with passion and enthusiasm."(There are many free resources available to help anyone find their life's purpose if they need help doing so. Jack Canfield has a 21 day free course and many free downloadable resources, and his book The Success Principle, can be found at the local library.)

Take Care Of The Possible

My son came to me this morning and asked me did my mother tell me the story about Junior. I said, I don't recall it. He said, its funny, ask her to tell you. My mother kept a lot of the good stories, for my children it seems, maybe because when I was young, like most children, at some point I stopped listening to my parents stories, and instead would be more interested in what the kids were doing outside the living room window. So I asked her about the story she told my son, and when she told me this story, I thought, huh, if she had told this story, and I wasn't listening, it was my lose, because not only is it humorous, it has a moral, that is fitting for a life filled with possibilities. When my mother was a young girl, she was one of a group of friends that gave performances around the town. They did plays. And they sang, and danced, at various venues. They were in the entertainment business. One day, they were getting ready to go do a performance and were running behind schedule. They were most concerned with one friend in particular, who hadn't even begun to get ready, and they were sure he was going to make them all late, his name was Junior. (As an aside, and to Junior's credit, he grew up and became a Professor at Tuskegee.)When Junior was young I guess he must have had a punctuality issue. He was known to be the last one to get out the door. So on this day, unlike any other, when everyone else was dressed and ready to go, he hadn't even gotten started. So as usual he was forced to rush through everything, including taking a bath. As everyone sat, fairly annoyed, Junior flew up the steps to his room to get himself together. He hollered down to his friends, no doubt wanting to calm their nerves, and said to them, "Don't worry, I'll be quick." Then he added, paying no attention to how it was coming out of his mouth, and loud enough so that everyone, including his mother, heard him, "I'll wash up as far as possible, and I'll wash down as far as possible." His mother, upon hearing this, stopped what she was doing, hurried over to the stairs and hollered up, "And wash possible too." My Mother and her friends roared with laughter, at what she was humorously, implying.Besides, being humorous, I thought how relevant to the situation of the possible. Life affords us infinite possibles. Creative thought processes. They're like apparatuses, or variables, or dimensional perspectives that assist us in reaching our intended endeavors via an uncharted route, or offers up an altogether new endeavor. But sometimes we ignore possibles, even to our detriment. The timing's not right, the result isn't clear enough, or the possible requires us to step outside our of comfort zone. We even sometimes approach the possible halfheartedly, with statements like "If only", "keep dreaming", "Wake up and smell the coffee", "Get real", "Impossible", and so on, or maybe its someone else possible, and we really aren't that into anyone else possible, even if it might possibly benefit us, or vice verse, someone can't see our possible, and somehow we think we need their validation, to make our possible possible. Sometimes we simply can't see the possible, for the trees, and the forest, even when its staring us right in the face, or more, still, there are simply too many possibles that our senses get overwhelmed so that no possible gets acted upon. What ever the causes may be, what is certain is that too many possibles are tossed away, like spam into the trash bin, without serious consideration, and end up on some island for misfit possibilities.Junior's Mother, was clearly being witty, and was not referring to the possibles or possibilitiesafforded us in life, but in her in humor is found a rather useful moral, pertaining to the treatmentof possibilities, and that is, the possible should always be treated as a valuable important aspect of the whole scheme of your life intentions, and not be taken for granted. So I guess if you were to ask what's the moral to this story, I'd had to say it's, 'Don't ignore the possible; it's a valuable commodity.'

HEALTH IS WEALTH

For a very brief period of my life I use to surround myself with millionaires or people who thought they were millionaires. One thing I noticed in that journey was that they were not healthy at all. I remember being told that an associate could not meet with us because he was taken to the hospital after having a heart attack. Although this was a very wealthy man it did not stop him from getting sick. I don't understand why things like steak, lobster, etc are associated with having money. You eat enough of these foods and you might not live long enough to enjoy your riches. On the other hand you may live a long life coupled with sickness. We hear of these billionaires dying from very poor health. While their money is still here they are gone. There are so many wonderful foods full of nutrients that actually enhance our bodies rather than to harm them. The scriptures clearly tells us that we should treat our bodies like temples. We were provided with so many fruits and vegetables, legumes, and nuts that is not a necessity to eat meat. And if you still want to eat meat the scriptures points out that you should only eat meat that is clean. Being a vegan or vegetarian is a blessing and not a burden. Now the saying health is wealth goes both ways. There are people who are very healthy and not wealthy or comfortable. They eat and exercise properly and do whatever is necessary to keep their bodies at optimum level. For example, I had a roommate who was 70 years old but didn't look a day past 35. She was a natural doctor and fantastic vegan chef. These were only a couple of her long list of talents. She was also on public assistance and was content on being there for the rest of her life. She is always in my prayers and I pray that she successful today. Ironically I aspired to be a natural doctor and wanted to study under her but all of that changed after we started living together. While I wanted to budget and save on what we could, she wanted to spend money that was not there. While she was a brilliant woman in many areas she had not mastered the financial area.So I mentioned both points to say that there should be a balance between health and wealth. You can do both. Again we must remember our children. The woman I mentioned earlier has children who feel that they have to take care of her. That is not how it should be. It is our responsibility to be positive examples for our children. If a little girl or boy is use to seeing his or her parents buying or selling silver, gold, or property; growing their own crops;sharing with and helping others then they will do the same when they are adults. On the other hand if that same little girl or boy sees his or her parents buying and "renting" unnecessary items, unfortunately he or she will go down the same path of making conscious decisions that leads to generations of poverty. "The sins of the father" is literal not figurative. Here's another challenge. If you are wealthy or comfortable but still eat meat try omitting meat for the rest of the week or if that is too much to ask try 1 day. If you are healthy but not wealthy or comfortable try omitting one thing from your routine that will allow you extra money for a day or the rest of the week. For example you can buy food on sale; skip a weekly massage;walk or ride your bike instead of driving a car. If you do take challenge and find it rewarding please share with us in the comments section of this blog. Todah(Thank-you)for reading this blog. Have a very blessed healthy and wealthy rest of the week.Shalom,Tamar
