Everyone is an expert at something - whether you know how to marketthat knowledge or not is the key to creating an expert personal brand.
Wikipedia describes an expert as "a person with extensive knowledge or
ability based on research, experience, or occupation and in a particular
area of study". I have invested in a number of programs, courses,
books, and live presentations over the last several years. All of this
because I believed the facilitator to be an "expert" who could share
information with me that I did not already know.
How is it that some people become recognized as the expert and others,
who may have more information and knowledge about the same topic, do
not?
Three things in general distinguish people who get to wear the expert label:
They are clear on what they believe. Experts tend to rise to this title
because they have taken a stance or a position on something within an
area of study. For example, Dr. Wayne Dyer is a well-known expert in the
field of self development. Dyer has certain principles he believes. It
is clear that part of his message is that each of us is accountable to
our own success and growth. Carole Martin, the Interview Coach, is an
expert in her area. She has developed clear steps to preparing for an
interview.
They tell other people what they believe. People who are recognized as
experts do not keep their beliefs to themselves. Instead, they
communicate a message in some type of written, visual, or auditory form
so that others know their principles. It is one thing to have a thought -
it's another level when you share the thought with someone else. And
the wider your net, the higher and faster you rise to the top as an
expert brand. Dyer and Martin could simply have their beliefs about
steps to take and principles to apply, but until these were shared as
messages to others, no one would have recognized them as a possible
resource.
They are consistent in telling other people what they believe. Having
an expert brand means you are consistent with the beliefs you share with
others. If you say one thing today and have a completely opposite
message next week, it will take away from the credibility of your
personal brand. Consider this example - John Maxwell is seen as an
expert in applying leadership strategies based in Christian principles.
If next month, he came out with a book about loving life as an atheist,
Maxwell's credibility as an expert may drop considerably.

Having a well thought out personal brand strategy is the fastest and best way to promote yourself in any career.

There are, however, 3 key mistakes many professionals make with their brand that keep them from advancing further in their career.

Personal Brand Mistake #1 - Failure to think like an entrepreneur at work. These days it's now more important than ever to recognize that things aren't like they used to be. Whether you work for someone else or not, do not make the mistake of having an employee mindset - you are self-employed.

What to do instead - To boost your perceived value at work so that you are top choice for the best job opportunities, it's time you start thinking like a business owner. Be an independent thinker, offer creative solutions, and always think a couple of steps ahead, strategically positioning yourself for the next action in case (B) happens instead of (A). Get noticed for your ability to be a results-driver who is adaptable to change, because change is happening faster and bigger these days.

Personal Brand Mistake #2 - Failure to track your own accomplishments and articulate them well. You can not rely on your manager to understand the work you do, or to know when recognition is warranted.

What to do instead - Keep track of accomplishments, praise reports, and great results you have achieved with and for your business partners. When the time comes to sit down for that next performance review, be ready to list out how well you have contributed to the company's overall goals. And if that performance review somehow does not get scheduled? Make an appointment yourself to meet with the manager and share your accomplishments, in a way that boosts their confidence in your work as an achiever. This record will also be great for your portfolio when it's time to move on.

Personal Brand Mistake #3 - Failure to connect with people who can be champions for your success. It's great to spend time with your colleagues at work - after all, we spend a large part of the week there. But many people mistake this group as their group of supporters.

What to do instead - Make sure you are connecting with people of influence outside of your normal circle. Tap into knowledge and experience that will help you broaden your thinking. Share solutions and creative ideas when you meet with mentors - formally or informally. They might just be your champion behind the scenes when you need it most.

How to Find a Mentor

iStock_000009172087XSmall-150x150.jpgI replied to a question this week on LinkedIn and thought I’d share my thoughts with you on the topic of mentoring. Here is a short excerpt from the comment and subsequent question submitted:

“I don’t know how to navigate the professional world. It is like I am an outsider looking in. As an African American woman, I don’t have any willing connections in my family. I am actively networking, taking classes to gain new skills, writing blogs, and interning; this way I can groom myself into the professional I want to be…”

My answer went like this:

Thank you for your note & for expressing your challenges so honestly. I will share that I have been mentored and I have mentored. In most cases where I was on the receiving end, I actively pursued the
relationship. There have been both good AND bad experiences on either
side – I chose to learn from both.

One of the conversations that came out of the recent Women of Color Career Success telesummit I hosted focused on the topic of mentoring and where to find them. There were 3 strategies highlighted from the panel:

  1. Pursue mentoring relationships with people who already at a level for which you are aspiring – seeking a combination of mentors with similar backgrounds as you AND those who can share a completely
    different perspective;
  2. Peer-to-peer mentoring – reach out to positive, motivated colleagues and others within your field for idea/resource sharing; and
  3. “remote” mentoring – seek out books, presentations, and media that may have messages you can apply to your own situation for growth. If something really appeals to you, consider contacting the author, etc to
let them know how their ideas have helped you – social media really
opens possibilities here. You never know until you try.

“Mentoring” was very loosely defined in each case but the ultimate message was that you can learn from just about anyone’s experiences.

Lastly I will add these tips:

* Don’t be intimidated to ask anyone you have identified as a possible mentor for you. The worst they can do is say no. * You should not expect
someone else to invest in you what you don’t invest in yourself and
others. Definitely look at ways you can mentor and give back. * And if
you happen to run into that not-so-great experience, you can learn
lessons from that too. It just may be “what not to do”.

I hope others will chime in and offer their advice and perspectives on your questions.

Best success to you, Tanya

What keeps you up at night?

Do you struggle with limiting beliefs?

Are you influenced by the thoughts of others about who you are and find that when you start trying to play a bigger game as a womanentrepreneur or make endeavors towards women’s empowerment you shrinkdown to make them feel comfortable?

Maybe you’re experiencing overwhelm and that your life is out of control leaving no time for the things that matter most. Or you workhard to have clients and customers but it seems that it’s not working.

Could you be in your own way and don’t even know it?

Take inventory of how you may be getting in your own way.
How do you do this? One thing that is very important to any endeavor
towards women’s empowerment, personal development etc. is to begin with you.

Take inventory of where you are. Assessments are key in this process.
One is a self discovery assessment. You discover more about yourself and
may uncover self sabotaging behaviors that you weren’t aware of. It is nota negative process, however, it helps you to also discover theuniqueness of you. Doing this assists you in developing a plan for bestpractices to achieve what it is you desire. It also assists inuncovering the blocks.

2. Acknowledge the truth.
You may have already arrived at the a fore-mentioned , however, maybe your challenge is that you are indenial. You cannot correct or change what you don’t acknowledge. Youcannot change what you tolerate.

3. Move past the pain of your past. One area that I’m passionate about is helping women to get unstuck. How long have you been feelinglike you have? How long have you followed the same system with noresults? How long have you been struggling to become confident? Thepain of your past will imprison you.

You wonder why you tend to reach an impasse when trying to reach your goals. There are many reasons for this, however, one is movingpast the pain of your past. Of course there are issues that need to beaddressed and you seek closure, however, do not pitch a tent there.Work through it and move on. In this area it is also critical that youdon’t take on the victim mentality. Everything that comes out of yourmouth is how they did you. You don’t understand. I can’t do thisbecause I’m still hurt because. If you’re going to realize trueprosperity “Spirit, Soul and Body” you’ve got to move on!!!

I’ll go over this in the upcoming Empowerment Gathering live here in Sacramento, CA.

I’ve given you three things you need to do to start the process of getting out of your own way.

How to develop an online brand is arguably the hot topic for many of today's professionals. Not only is it critical for many, if not all, businesses these days to have on online presence, it is also fast becoming the way that career professionals promote their value to either retain a job, advance to higher levels, or transition to another career.

This article will cover 7 frequently asked questions about online brand presence for career professionals. Unlike most other articles and media that refer to social networking and online visibility, this message will address people who are still in a workplace setting and the relevance of getting engaged in the online wave of the future.

FAQs About Online Brand for Career Professionals:

  1. Why do I need an online brand presence when I work for someone else? Competing in today's workforce has been quite a different environment these days. Employers are looking more meticulously and for skilled workers, if they're looking at all. Instead of distributing unnecessary salary dollars to have a recruiter travel to job fairs and collect a pay check all day, thousands of dollars can be saved when recruiting is sourced right from the computer. An article on InternetNews.com by Stuart J. Johnson followed a survey that indicated more than 70% of HR professionals and recruiters rejected job candidates due to what they found online about them. And I suspect that if employers cannot find you at all, they can see your competitor who has a tremendous online profile, and therefore an automatic advantage over you for the position.
  2. How do I get started in creating an online brand presence, especially when I don't have these skills? There are lots and lots of social media experts and online tutorials. Once you have identified your personal brand strategy (perhaps with the help of a career coach specializing in this area), you can better determine what learning needs you have and find the resources to fill these needs.
  3. Everyone has a blog and they're telling me I need one too. What if I'm not really a great writer? Part of your branding strategy should be to determine your communication style. Perhaps, instead of written material, your blog may incorporate audio or something else that suits your preference.
  4. I don't know what to talk about. What if I don't have anything to say? We all know the old saying about opinions...everyone has one! What is a topic that you know very well, are passionate about, and would love to talk about with other people? Is it a topic that could open doors for someone, or make others feel like they have a strong emotional reaction to? Talk about your area of expertise - only you can share it the way you can.
  5. My time is already so stretched. How do I fit in the work to really be visible online? This is another key area of your personal branding strategy - mapping out your time and intended frequency online can be one of the best habits to create right at the start. You actually can devote just 15-20 minutes per day once you have established the ground work. You might also consider outsourcing to a virtual assistant specializing in social media communications.
  6. How do I get people to go see my online resources - e.g. CV/resume, website, blog? You can learn to use any of several different models. What works best for me is using tools like Twitter and Facebook to redirect viewers to links that have my content.
  7. I'm afraid about privacy online. If I put myself out there, I'll be making myself a target for identity theft, right? Great question. I recommend spending time learning how to protect your data online and offline. Just because you don't have an online presence you have deliberately created yet, does not mean someone can't already access your personal information. The federal government actually has a site with some great tools and tips to protect your identity online: onguardonline.gov/">http://www.onguardonline.gov/. This may be a good place to start.
Creating an online presence can launch your career to the next level or set you apart from your competition in a career transition, when it is planned deliberately and with the right resources in place. Spend some time getting to know more about how you can strategically position your career with online branding techniques.

Anatomy of a Personal Brand Strategy - Part I

Personal brand marketing is a solid career management technique. When you are doing the work to clearly identify your personal brand - or theoverall collection of perceptions that you want others to have aboutyou - it may not be as simple as jotting down a few notes on a memo pad.

Developing a personal brand strategy that describes the irresistible, brilliantyou can take some work, but once you have it, you can apply the piecesto everything you communicate - e.g. resume, interview remarks, onlinemedia, etc.

Below, I will share with you some of the components I used in developing my own brand marketing statement.

Here are the first five concepts to focus on with a brief definition ofeach, and an example taken from my own personal brand library:

  • Objective - what outcome are you trying to achieve for yourself or for your targetaudience (e.g. To develop highly successful, professional women of colorto be competitors for advanced leadership positions.)
  • Core message - the primary mindset that you want anyone who comes in contact withyou to adopt (e.g. You can successfully advance your career when youincrease your brand visibility in a smart, authentic, and consistentway.)
  • Target audience - who do you want to share the message with (e.g. Professional women of color, age 30-55,seeking career advancement, career change, or business start-up.)**Later, we can talk about who the ideal client is for you within thistarget - yes, there is a distinction.
  • Brand Statement - what do you do and who do you work with (e.g., I work with professionalwomen of color seeking career advancement or transitioning into solobusiness. I show them how to develop a brand strategy for their careerthat connects them with their target audience & key influencers.)
  • Unique position - what makes you different than anyone else who does this work (e.g.,My strategy is based on a 60/40 combination of proven career managementtechniques and online brand expertise. I also have a powerhouse networkof branding resources to help my clients implement the plan once the itis put on paper.)

That's all for part one. Think about your answers in each area. If you work on this over the next week, you will have agreat start to developing your brilliant personal brand strategy.

This was my response to a reporter today who asked about the top 5 tips to get promoted in a tough economy. Thought I'd share them with youin this quick bulleted list.

Top 5 activities I'm sharing with my clients for being promotable right now are:
  1. Tell yourself the truth about your performance and your talents - whatresults can you offer? What has been your track record over the pastyear or so? Take a good hard look at what makes you promotable andask yourself the tough questions before somebody else does.
  2. Get raw, honest-to-goodness feedback from others even if it hurts - onceyou have examined your personal results, find out what kind ofprofessional reputation you've created. Do key players respect yourwork? Will you get the support you need to advance to the next level? What kind of advice can you solicit on the steps required in yourcurrent professional environment?
  3. Be prepared for a "pat on the back" promotion - yes, you might have to recognize that a salaryincrease is just not possible right now in your company. Be open to apromotion with a "head nod" instead of an increase in pay.Ultimately, you can revisit salary once the economy begins to turnaround. Track your results over the coming year so that you canjustify and support an increase once this conversation is open againin your business.
  4. Figure out what your brand is, then market, market, market - this ties back to #1 and 2. What kind of core themesare you known for and what consistent message are you sending aboutyourself? If you have a dynamic brand as a reliable,solution-oriented leader continue to think of ways to enhance thisbrand. Contribute in meetings, be able to speak to how your work isimpacting the bottom line results.Become known for something positiveand relevant in your industry.
  5. Manage your online reputation - since so many employers these days are connected with their employees, prospective candidates, etc. online, it's important that you haveestablished a solid, congruent image. You will want to do thisresponsibly, and remember that it's almost better to have an invisibleonline brand (none at all) than to have a "two-faced' online brand -one where you're Dr. Jekyll at work and Mr. Hyde at play.

Now what do you think about this list & what else should be on it?

If you have been in business for a while you are likely to run into periods of burnout. You will recognize it when you see it because it is where creativity takes a nose dive and your get up and go seems to leave without letting you know. I have worked with lots of women business owners and there is a common thread that weaves many of them together. Here are a few quick observations on how people with the business blahs have managed to get the wind back in their sail.

Re-evaluate

One of the things that I notice among those going through periods of burn out is a lack of clear focus in not knowing which way to go. If you ever find yourself feeling that way take some time to re-evaluate and ask yourself what it is about your company that you most enjoy right now. Many times when you’re stuck it’s that roadblock that has your feet feeling like led and unable to move. Brainstorm with others about the direction of your company. You may simply need someone to help break that cement up with you so that you can get moving again.

Another thing that you can do if you are thinking, “Hey, this is my business. I want it to succeed but I don’t have the motivation." is to ask yourself “What are the obstacles that you are facing in your business today that keeps you from seeing the forest from the trees?”

Re-connect

Next, reconnect with exactly why you are in business in the first place. Be honest with yourself. If it’s something that you are really passionate about then connect with that passion again. Maybe it’s not passion at all but the use of a skill that is helping you to temporarily make ends meet. Be honest about that, too, because when you can do that then you can move on to creating a game plan and designing a company that is successful. After all, the goal is to own a company that you can wake up to and say that I am proud to own this business.

Re-structure

Perhaps there is something in the business that you do not want to do. Think of how you can change that. Maybe it is certain aspects of the business that you don’t like to handle. How can you eventually get away from those tasks and create a pre-exit plan where you are doing what you love versus working in your business? Begin mapping it out today so that in the end when you set sail again you will do so knowing that you did it your way!

And if part of the fatigue in running your business comes from overwhelm in financial management and poor cash flows then I invite you to sign up for my newsletter at www.tbsusa.com where you will receive tips and access to resources that will help guide you in a more profitable direction.

Are you experiencing challenges and is just basically dealing with thechallenges sending you for a spin? You must remain focused regardlessof what you’re dealing with.

The road to women’s empowerment will involve holding on to two words:

Tenacity:Tough minded persistency non yielding…and tireless effort regardless ofobstacles, opposition and or other’s opinions.

There are so manyobstacles that come before you and hinder you especially during theeconomic times of challenge. You must have tough minded persistency andbecome a woman of tenacity. You must be if you’re going to achieve yourdreams, live an empowered life, be an extraordinary woman leading anextraordinary life. You have to have a non-yielding and tireless effortregardless of obstacles. That’s something I want you to hold on toregardless of obstacles and opposition and we have great oppositionespecially women of faith and/or other’s opinions the opinions ofothers the opinions of the world, the opinions of society where itconcerns our faith. Tenacity, hold on to that.

Another is the word resolve; unwavering committed mindset adhering to a bold decision and strategy.

SoI want you to hold onto those two words as we move on. It takes muchcourage to continue in the midst of crisis. It takes passion, faith andmotivation.

I looked up the word crisis and there are a couple of definitions and they include the following;

Acrucial or decisive point or situation a turning point. A traumatic orstressful change in a person’s life; it’s also a term meaning a testingtime or an emergency event.

What I’d like you to answer is howdo you respond to crisis or what should your response be? If you’regoing to embrace any level of empowerment you’re going to need to havetenacity and there should be a resolve. It’s also important to have theright mindset in order to keep moving forward during the time of crisisduring a testing time. There will be continuous testing times as youmove along your journey towards an empowered life. There’s no questionabout it, you will have testing times as you move up to new levelsthere will be new testing. Build safeguards so you stay focused and youstay along the course that’s been set for you and given the fact I’mtalking about focus in crisis, learn to focus.

One of thehardest things to do in life when an unexpected change orcircumstances, disappointment etc. come your way is to stay focused. You are either experiencing so much pain or you’re so overwhelmed thatthe event tries to take your full attention. So how can you continuealong your path so the goals that you’ve set the action steps you’veset that will lead you to that goal long term, short term? The eventtries to take your full attention. One thing for sure is that therewill be unexpected situations, and that’s just the way it is. There arechanges and disappointments that are sure to come your way. Theessential thing is to learn how to remain focused during these timesand it is a learned state. Losing your focus can immobilize you, bindyou and make you ineffective in your life.

Here’s one thing not to do:

Don’t panic!

Thisis number one here as this may be the natural response by most and thatis to Panic. When I heard the call from my daughter saying “mommy Ican’t see” my first inclination was to panic and then I gave the callto my husband so that I could regroup and reach into my Faith. Panicwill send you spiraling down a staircase of many emotions sending youdeeper and deeper into a mode of gloom and defeat. Below I share otherthings you must do to stay focused that you also must do that will fuelyour ability to resist the panic stage. Unless you make an agreementwith yourself that you will not panic the other keys may not be aseffective in your endeavor to learn skills to help you stay focused in crisis.

Ifyou’d like to know more about how to stay focused in crisis I inviteyou to secure a copy of my special report “How to stay focused incrisis.” I share many more tips and insights in this area. Learn more by clicking here.

1. Take 100% Responsibility for Your Life – In a society where people blame everything from their parents to the government for failure, those who don’t buy into this mentality or succumb to the “victim” thinking succeed. To blame something or somebody outside yourself is saying they have control of your life and not you. Someone else’s opinion of you doesn’t have to become your reality.

2. Live Your Life On Purpose - What separates motivational thinkers from the unsuccessful is that they believe they’re doing what they were put here to do. The difference between this and just living, is that the latter is just getting through the week with the least problems. But when you live your life on purpose, your main concern is doing the job right. For the entrepreneur this means finding a cause you believe in and building your business around it.

3. Be Willing to Pay the Price - Be willing to pay the price for your dreams. Wanting a big house, a luxury car, and a million dollars in the bank is all very nice, and everyone wants these things – but are you willing to pay the price to get them? This is one of the major differences between the successful and unsuccessful.

4.Stay Focused – Every day we’re bombarded with hundreds of tasks, phone calls, messages, and everyone competing for our time. Focusing requires giving up something in the present because you are investing your time in something that will pay off big-time down the road. Jack Canfield and Mark Hanson were turned by 30 publishers when they submitted the first “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book. Instead of giving up, they stayed focused on their goal and did four or five interviews per day for radio, TV, and newspapers, for five days a week for a whole year. Eventually, a small publisher decided to take a chance, and of course now it’s a best-seller that spawned an entire series that have sold more than 10 million copies.

5.Become An Expert in Your Field - One striking factor all successful people have in common is how seriously they take their profession. They strive to be the best at what they do, and do almost anything to improve. If someone followed you around all day with a video camera at your business, would it be a tape you’d be proud of or embarrassed about? Make the decision today to work at being the best in your field. How? By finding out what the “best” in your field are doing, and do what they do.

6.Write Out a Plan for Achieving Your Goals - Write out an action plan/map for how you’re going to achieve your goals. Trying to reach your goals without a plan is like trying to drive from South Carolina to Chicago without a map. A goal that isn’t written down is merely a wish or fantasy.

7.Never Give Up - Never, never, never give up. When you’re fully committed to achieving your goal, giving up is not an option. You must be willing do whatever it takes to make it happen. The power of perseverance is an awesome force. As someone once said, “inch by inch it’s a cinch”. Think of the lowly inchworm – if it pondered the length of the trip from start to finish before it started, it probably would never move. To a worm’s point-of-view, the garden path must look like a trip to Mars. Never give up! Keep on going like the Energizer bunny, and pretty soon you’re there.

8. Don’t Delay - Nobody knows how much time they have left to accomplish their dreams, and we must remember that we don’t have forever. The clock is ticking, and sooner or later your number comes up and you’re gone. Successful achievers know this too, but they don’t view it as a “negative”. Achievers use it to “spur them on”. They go after what they want as energetically and as passionately as possible, for as long as they have.

I had a friend who used to say, “Today is a check – cash it! Yesterday is an I.O.U. – forget it! Tomorrow is a promissory note, don’t bank on it!” I think that’s a pretty good summation of life, so go out there and cash in on that “today” check.

Cheers,

Since you’re selling to human beings wouldn’t it be great to know the five secrets that have the greatest influence on your customers? What I’m about to share with you will make you the Guru of Sales in your niche. I’m going to put them in the order of use in the marketing process, but they can overlap or be switched around to fit your situation.

What happens in nature when there is a vacuum? Right. There is an attempt to fill that void, and human nature also follows that law.

1. Filling the void – When someone does a personal favor or gives them something of value for free, this act provides an imbalance in the relationship. This creates a subconscious pressure on the recipient to give back in some way. This is what’s known in marketing as filling the void.

2. Reciprocation – In marketing the word “FREE” has the most response of any word in the English language. That’s why marketers use it over, and over again. Everybody likes something for free, don’t you? Even though “free” means there is no obligation or cost, the recipient does feel obligated. If something of real value is given to the person, an imbalance is created – a void in nature – that needs to be filled. Maybe not immediately, but if that person has gotten great value and use from the gift, there will be a nagging sub-conscious motivation to reciprocate in some manner.

You’ll find that some people just don’t seem to reciprocate, and it could be that they didn’t appreciate the full value of your offer. This is why it’s so important to make sure when you are offering a free gift with a promotion, that your customers are made aware of the full value of what they’re receiving.

What really makes this work in marketing, though, is that you make your “free” offer available when your customer takes action. Now it can be a very small one like filling out a customer card for you (which gives you their name, address, and email address), or accepting your product on a 30-day trial.

3. Getting your customer to like you - Have you heard the phrase, “if a customer knows, likes and trusts you then they’ll buy from you”. Well, you’ve gotten them to know you with your “free” offer, the next step is to get them to “like” you. The quickest way I know to get someone to like you is for you to let them know that you like them (reciprocation, again).

Now, not ALL people are going to “like” you and you’re not going to like all your customers, but if you take this approach you’ve a lot better odds of finding customers.

When you’re writing your ads and marketing letters always write as if they are a personal note to a real, live, breathing friend. Use plain talk as if you’re talking to your best friend, and not “hi-tech techno babble”. Keep it simple!

4. Trust – I don’t know about you, but when I hear someone say “TRUST ME” it reminds me of a snake oil salesman and makes me do anything but trust them. So how do you get your customers to trust you? Take a leadership role with them and tell them what they should do to take action and buy. You must be or present yourself as an “Authority” figure. An expert in your field and the only one they should buy from as proven by the endorsements of your other customers, their friends and neighbors.

If your offer is made in a letter, than include some endorsements from others, mention articles written about you, books, articles, newsletters that you’ve written, etc. It is interesting that most people don’t want to make a decision, and it’s better that you give them an action plan to say “yes”.

5. Scarcity – This is one persuader that really motivates humans to action, and you must create and manage this to your advantage in every offer you make.

People want things that solve their problems or make them feel good about themselves that are of good quality. They want it even more – if the quantity is limited in some way. Remember the law of supply and demand? If the demand for a product is high and the supply is low, then the price that’s charged will be accepted readily be it high or low. (Sounds like buying gas for your car, doesn’t it?)

Even if you create the “perception” that there is a limited quantity available, a limited time frame for availability, or whatever you conceive to use, you’ll find this a catalyst to action for your customer.

Of course, it goes without saying that you always include a guarantee of some kind in your offers. I always like the “no questions asked” type of guarantee for 30, 60, 90 days or even a full year if it fits for you. With this you’re emphasizing your credibility (trust) by saying you’re going to be around for a while. I’ve found that most times there are very few takers to the guarantee policy you offer, and if there is – you don’t want to keep an unhappy customer anyway.

Be sure to include all five of these tips in all of your offers (ads, sales letters, presentations, etc.) and you’ll see dramatic results and an increase in your business.

New Year...New Strategy

Out with the old, in with the new is a term you often hear as we leave one year and enter the next. If only it was that easy. The truth is, it takes more than a clock striking twelve, a kiss with a love one or few fireworks to change a current challenging circumstance.Whether you are looking to change a business practice or personal situation, it is going to take a lot of work and much planning accomplish that dream or goal. Is your problem lack of focus? Motivation? Commitment? What are you going to do differently in 2010?I heard a powerful statement from a family member. He said, "Choose to make adjustments in your personal, mental and spiritual disciplines." You have to make a conscious decision to change. Yes, there may have been outside factors in your life that caused you to get off track. BUT you can either continue to waste time dwelling on what was or wasn't or you can make a CHOICE to let it go and move forward. It is up to you. Are you ready to pursue that dream of owning a home? Is starting your own business on the list? What steps do you need to take to make those dreams a reality? Here are a few tips to get you started.Write the VisionThere is a saying in the bible that says without a vision the people perish (Proverbs). Dreams keep you alive. If you have nothing to look forward to, you will just be. I encourage you to get a journal (or dust off the one you already have) and outline what you want to do. Be very specific. If you want to change careers, write what that career will be. If you want to increase your income, write down how much you want it to be.The key to this is that you write what ever it is with authority. Use words like I am going to, or I will make, etc. Writing the vision serves a few purposes. It allows you to see what is in your mind and becomes more real. You can also share it with one or two people that you trust, so they can hold you accountable. But be very selective in choosing who that person will be. Not everyone will believe in your vision.Research, Research, ResearchOne mistake many eager entrepreneurs make is that they do not conduct enough research in the project, career or business they are trying to get into. If you are looking to quit your corporate job and become a home based business, you need to establish a transition plan that includes having a start up budget. What will your home-based business be? What is going to be your niche? Who is doing what you would like to do already and could they be a mentor to you in some way? These are just a few things to consider, but no matter what you are trying to do, be prepared to put in many hours of research. As you establish a foundation, you will see the benefits of this preparation in the long run.Connect with Like-Minded PeopleIt is very very important to surround yourself with people who are looking to succeed and working in their passion. You need to be around people that are positive and excited about their gifts and talents. Friends and family can be great, but they can also be dream destroyers.Join groups that cater to the type of work or idea you are looking to do. If you enjoy event planning, go on Facebook, Linkedin, Yahoo Groups or some other sites that may host groups dedicated to that field. You will gain a tremendous amount of insight as you look to venture out on your own. Ask questions and don't be afraid to join into discussions. You may connect with a future colleague or client!Knowledge is PowerAs you move through the above steps and begin to get a solid idea on what you are doing and where you would like to go with it, keep your knowledge and skills up to date. Sign up for some training course, subscribe to online ezines or blogs that cater to your topic of interest. If paying for a course is not in your present budget-no worries, the internet has a host of free information for you to help keep you in the loop! For example, using a tool like Google Blog Search will give you the most current information for whatever it is you need to know.Following these simple steps are a sure way to help put you on the track of success in this new year.Natasha RubinVirtual Assistant/Social Media Marketing ProfessioanlOwner of Gifted Assistant Management Serviceshttp://www.thegiftedasssistant.netFacebook: http://www.facebook.com/giftedassistantLinkedin: http://www.linkedin.com/in/natasharubinFollow me:http://www.twitter.com/giftedassistant

10 Steps to a Successful Business Year

by Karen A. DavisA new year causes most of us to stop and reflect on past successes and failures and what we want to accomplish in the next 12 months. You may have New Year’s resolutions or on-going goals. Honestly assessing your position in your field and thinking strategically about your where you want your business or career to be at year’s end will move you towards the goals you have for this year and beyond. The following ten steps will assist you in creating a written guide to follow throughout the year.1. Review your goals from last year. Which did you meet and which ones did you miss? Decide goals that should be carried over into this year, and the ones that can be put aside for later or disregarded altogether.2. What challenges or obstacles did you encounter last year? List how you dealt with them and the outcomes – whether you were successful or not – and how you will avoid them in the future.3. Define your passion. What do you really want to be doing? Are you doing it, or is your current career or business taking you in the direction of your dream? If not, how can you reconcile what you are doing now with what you want to do?4. Define your ideal client: What do they look like? Where do they live or work? How much money do they have to spend? What type of project will they present you with? What will your working relationship be like?5. Research your competition – their clients, service offerings, and pricing – especially your number one competitor.6. Define where your business will be in the next year. This, along with Step 7, will probably be the longest part of the process. Take some time to visualize how your company or career will look. Walk through a typical day. Outline the financials. Determine how you want to feel on December 31st.7. Outline the steps to make your goals for the next year a reality based on your plans from Step 6. Begin with a general outline, and then get more detailed, developing a monthly worksheet or guide.8. Make sure all of your marketing and public relations materials are consistent with the message you want to promote over the next year. Your business cards, brochures, website, and social networking sites should communicate your brand.9. Identify three ways to meet and engage the clients described in Step 4. Define the meeting location. Work on an appealing opening line and your elevator pitch, and describe how you can meet their needs.10. Find an accountability partner – someone who you know will hold you responsible and will question you throughout the year to make sure you follow through with your goals and objectives.© Copyright – Karen A. You Couldn't Make it

Yes! they said you couldn't make it this far. Your business will fail. You will be back. You will not win. The people who are near and dear to you are also included in this negative talk. The so called friends; the ones you ask to attend the meetings with you and all of a sudden they had a prior engagement. Have you heard these words before. Surely, you have and that is why you became so determined to prove them wrong. You were determine to have the last laugh; because you knew what GOD placed within you no one can take away.Applaud yourself for taking a bold step towards school and graduating. Applaud yourself for taking courageous steps towards starting your business. Applaud yourself for taking the powerful steps towards your career. You did it and if your reaping the rewards righ now so be it because it was determined in your mind long time ago that this day would come. So, bask in your glory for you have earned it through sweat and tears. How did you do it? How did you stand and be counted? What were your solutions to getting it done? Well! First and foremost you trusted God when everything and everyone around you seemed unforgiving. Knowing that God was on your side sooth every cell within your being. Secondly, you knew you didn't want to be like the masses waiting for a handout. You had dreams that could not wait for someone else's approval, you had goals to reach therefore, you were determined to make it happen. Why, because a life unfulfilled is a life filled with coulda, shoulda, woulda's.So, you couldn't make it the way the others were making it, living from hand to mouth. You coudn't make it sitting in silence letting your desires burn into ashes. You coundn't make it throughout the day without accomplishing a thing, You couldn't make it without being of service to others. Why, because you are different; you are YOU!http://www.fallintoyou.com
