“Trials”

There’s a thin line that divides life and death. In some instances, there are individuals who’ve passed away even their missions were not yet accomplished. Why is it like that?You might disagree, but you can’t deny the fact that you blame GOD for taking the person you love. Actually, there’s no one to blame. It’s not God’s decision.Perhaps it’s about time for a person to rest. You have to understand that sometimes there are thing that should accept.Let me tell you a story. This is based from my experience. I still remembered that was 12:00 noon, the weather is fine and the wind blows so mild. A good day to have fun under the sun…We lived in Phuket, Thailand together with my mother, my father and my fellow sisters.I am the oldest among the three. One is Angela, a 10 year old girl and the youngest was chin who’s a 6 year old girl. Okay, don’t be shocked with my story but this is what the exactly happen at that time.We have a resort in Phuket, a private resort. Approximately, our house is 5k away from the seashore. The place is surrounded by cottages and bazaars that sell different products such as wholesale clothes, wholesale shawls,jewelries and other authentic necessities.I thought that day would be fine enough to play and swim to the blue waters of Phuket Beach. So I left my two sisters to the shore to get some drinks. When I was on the house, I heard a loud sound similar to water. wossssshhhhh!!! But when I go out, the whole city was then filled with water.There were individuals who were still running up to the shore. In that day, there were thousands of dead people including my two sisters. I blamed myself, I blamed God. But I realized that that it’s my fault. If I am there at that time, perhaps I used to save my sisters.I couldn’t able to go to school or even sleep well because of that disaster that I’ll never forget. The whole city looks like desert. The place can be compared to a ghost town wherein thousands of souls were still suffering and seeking for help.At this point, I’m 22 years old. But then, I always remembered worse disaster ever. I decided to migrate in other place and leaved Phuket for the meantime. Every time I watch the video footage of that giant wave, I keep on crying and you know the reason is very obvious.After 6 years, I am fully recovered from what happened. I realized that life has no assurance. You should be prepared anytime.Give your 100 percent love to important persons. Don’t wait for the final hour. If you can do it today, do it and don’t wait for tomorrow. Life is full of trials that you need to overcome.

I just existed. There was no focus or drive to push other than to get what was due to a pretty bitch like me.That’s all I seen on TV, pretty bitches getting with ugly dudes for money.I figured hell, I could do that. I thought how couldn’t I be the inheritress to all the baller shit. The only thing I did was hair and drive my ass to the mall and to the club in efforts to secure my future.My ass attracted all type of V’s from the CLK Benzes and Range Rovers in New York to Candy painted Cutlasses when I took trips down south. On the strip they would be all lined up to greet me so it would be my choice. With my magnetic beauty I had the power to straight shut a block down! And I was in ecstasy cause my baller radar was ridiculous so I decided to play cute tricks with them, because I love flirting with money. They used go crazy when I looked at my cell phone while switching my ass in reverse wearing Leopard print leggings that you might as well call my second layer of skin.After a few dates my legs were held in a V position for a couple of Rappers and Ball player dudes. My back caressed 500 thread sheets while they felt my sweetness and I would take a turn to ride my way out of the hood. My real life was turning into “As seen on TV” particularly the Rap videos, nice cars, fly clothes, vacations and my bank account began to grow. But there was a ceiling that was hard to break through especially when they open they mouth to ask me questions.One night after a good time this dude started to allude to what do I do? I replied, “I do hair and I like to travel.” I’m thinking what the fuck does he want me to say. He said “That’s it?” I said, “we can have a second round now, baby.” He said, “No. I mean is that all you do? Do you have any other ambitions? Where do you see yourself in five years?”I was thinking the nerve of him asking me all these trick questions and shit after I just swallowed his cum. I wanted to tell him I just want to sit on my big, pretty ass and look beautiful while I am counting your money. I didn’t smoke or drink so I didn’t look ghetto in the face. But I had to let this mutha fucka know that I was from the hood. And I damn sure wasn’t gonna give him the upper hand and let him think he was pushing me aside because I did not meet his bullshit expectations. So I just had to keep it raw with that mutha fucka, I said, “Listen, I don’t know what kind of bitch you looking for, but I want a nigga that can appreciate a chick with a big, pretty ass, who give good head, and that can keep his ass fed… So fuck you and don’t fucking call me.” I got dressed, told the front desk to call me a cab and got the fuck otta there.Shit… I barely got my GED, I just needed to make enough to get me in the spots where I needed to be and I’ll be alright. These New York niggahs got the game twisted. I was fucking with them for a minute and I still didn’t have anything official. So I took my pretty ass to Atlanta where a Southern man can appreciate a chick like me. There I met a dude name Cee. He is originally from NY, but he been in the A for 10 years and he moves keys from Miami. I began to take trips with him. He most definitely enjoys my company and knows how to get it poppin. He said baby you too pretty to have to do shit. Whatever you want I am going to make sure you get it. I got deep with Cee and told him you are the man who I been looking for my whole life. Then I sucked his dick the hardest I ever sucked in my whole life. Like a true Southern man he kept his word. He had me in Gucci and copped me the new CLK Benz, we resided in his 500,000 home and we were living lovely.One day I stayed back from one of his trips I was in our bedroom and I nearly cried because I finally made it. My motto: “Pretty Bitches Don’t Work” finally came to pass. I said to myself while hugging my mink coat, all those outfits, different colored weaves, wigs, high stilettos, knee length boots, dicks I sucked, tricks I did and compromising positions all lead to this point. Not only was I with one of the biggest pushers he was smart because he washed it up in Real Estate property. Life was good, 4 years went by and I was pregnant with our 2nd seed with Mrs. Cee tatted above my right tittie.On a hot ass afternoon me and my daughter just came from getting a manicure and pedicure. I was relaxing nicely on my bed sipping on a ice cold Sweet Tea. Then I got a call from Cee saying that the Feds got him in Miami. The Feds don’t play, I knew they are probably going to do a paper trail so pack up as much as I could before they arrived. And left our beautiful home in mother fucking tears. I thought Cee was a genius by investing property in other people names, but the Real Estate market crashed so I could not flip shit. I was 7 months pregnant with a 3 year old baby girl with only $1200 in my pocket. I truly loved Cee, but the only way I knew how to survive was to fuck with another dude. Which was impossible in my condition. I thought dagg… just like that I am a pregnant mother who is homeless on the street. But I am from NY so I knew I didn’t have time to react, I just had to act. I touched the both of my kids and said we gonna make it out here. I didn’t want spend my last on rent, so I went to a women’s shelter.While in there I protected my family and kept to myself, but I did let those chicks know that I do hair. I know times were hard for them too, so I charged them up North prices. I did corn rows, perms, full head weaves and box braids gave me about $375 a week. Thank God we had that, I still can’t believe I am now a single mother with a daughter and a son that I have to raise. Plus I’m in a shelter that resembles a High school full of bitches and we all got a story. I was never really into drama, all I wanted was my money and to be fly. But being in the shelter is an awakening and humbling to my soul, yet sometimes I feel like I am going to go crazy! I just try hard to be strong for my kids and I think that’s what is kept my sanity.One of the girls gave me a city job application and she helped me fill it out. It was strange cause before this I never really had to sign my name Nikeya Clark. It took a lot for me to fill it out. Every letter made me miss Cee even more, he was an excellent provider. My motto, the anthem to my life “Pretty Bitches Don’t Work” is coming to an end. If it was just me I would have rode it out some more, but now I have children. Looking at my daughter, while feeling the movements of my son. I seen my mirror. My twin, At that point that I knew that I didn’t want to see her make the same mistakes that me and my mother made. I want my daughter to see her mother work and get her own money for a change. So I decided that the only assistance I will take is Section 8 and Food Stamps.The game is over. I have learned that fairy tales may come true for a handful of bitches, but God Bless the chick that got her own. Not only her own crib, car and money, but knows her own path, her own definition of who she is and not what people expects her to be. After time went by I learned that Cee got 18 years Fed time and a girl name Tenayah was also pregnant from him along with me. Still some how I feel sad for Cee, he was a good man who knew how to treat his family, but I hope when he come home he will do everything legally. Aside for him I feel mostly sad for my children for bringing them into this type of life.However its not over, I got my head on right I am considering going to college or opening up my own beauty salon. And as long as I got breath in my body I can make things right. This is just a lesson that I had to learn from getting caught up in all the “hype”. I wanted the “baller culture”, “The life”. This whole situation finally made me look within. I found a reflection, that was greater than my beauty it is called my strength. With this new strength I will beat down the bottled up demons that told me I was nothing, but a hoe and that I was not going to be shit that lurked from my past. Reflections from a Serial Bridesmaid!

So we've entered into the New Year hip hip hooray!I did not bother making any resolutions; I still have the last 10 to accomplish from 2009. So I guess my New Year’s resolution is accomplishing the ones I made last year.As I reflected on my goals I took a mental inventory of my life and I must say I had more than my fair share of blessings.One of my resolutions I tried to reinforce last year was to end my career as a bridesmaid until I walk down the aisle with my OWN bridal party honey! Well it seems the more I resist the role, the more brides to-be insist that I be a part of their bridal party. Please don’t get me wrong I am honoured but I am beginning to feel like a serial bridesmaid. I must start charging a fee.I have been doing some thinking again, especially on relationships. I'm thinking of widening my entry requirements of an M-A-N. Now being a woman of ethnicity it has taken me a decade to get to this point. Happy New Year!Everyone here at BBWO. I would llike to start by saying I commend all of you, For you ambitions and courage. To have operated or ran a business in the last two years. These have been trying times. In this very very tough economy.Easy... It has not been. But, we are still here, still standing, in spite of the circumstances. Pushing forward. It's been a journey for me. And, I would not change a thing given the opportunity. I've learned a lot in this spand of time. For instance, just because you tell people you have something to sell, doesn't necessarily mean that their going to buy. People have to have an interest in what you are selling. If, your product does not stir up their interest or curosity factor. You are not going to sell very much.Business is a fasinating instrument, isn't it. It allows you to enter into homes, lives, hearts if, your product happens to be something that captures the masses. I can not speak for all of you. But, let's pledge today, right now. That this year is going to be BIG for us and our businesses, like never before. Don't be discouraged, not now. If not this year, than next year. But don't give up, don't stop, and do not quit. I hope, that each and everyone of you hear what I'am saying today.Do not take this lightly. GOD, takes care of those who endure... If I have learned anything in this LIFE, since I decided to start my business. Is that, you only FAIL, when you give up. For all of you in business, QUITTING is not an option. Hold on, be strong minded, and follow that DREAM.. That dream that GOD gave you. You remember, when he gave it to you. You saw the preview. That's why you took the chance, the risk to start a buisness of your own. Dont stop now, because it looks unattainable. Martin Luther King say it best. "How Long, Not Long." So, what you didnt sell anything all year. Or, Chirstmas sales were a BUST. Here's 2010, you get to do it, all again.Are you aware that the stores we shop at today. All started out, as small as a mustard seed.. Now their mega businesses. Suppose, they bailed when things got tough. We would not be shopping in stores such as Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue, Sears, Nordstroms, Walmart. Kmart, to name just a few. In closing, I want to encourage everyone to have a Martin Luther King Sale, this year prepare for it, and make it spectacular. Get Banners and ads all that good advertising stuff. Shout it out. Because, if it weren't for HIS DREAM. We may not have had these opportunites today.P.s. I want you to check your local newspapers. On that wonderful day. Many of us go through an annual ritual of setting personal goals, or setting business goals at the beginning of the year. Once you have compiled a list of personal, spiritual and financial goals, your next step is going to be writing out why it is crucial that you achieve those goals within the specified time frame.If you don't convince yourself of why you must achieve those goals you will not have enough of an emotional investment in accomplishing them. Simply making a list on paper is easy to do and also easy to discard when things get challenging.Now we are going to bring those goals into your daily life by breaking them up into small chunks and adding them to your daily to-do list or task list.Take one of your goals that you would like to accomplish within the next six months. Let's say you'd like to lose that last ten pounds. You will now backwards engineer your goal and break it up into tasks that you can add to your daily calendar. Here are some of the things that you might want to do in order to lose weight:• Clear the junk foods out of your house• Choose a weight loss program that fits your lifestyle• Hire a weight loss coach or counselor• Buy a weight loss journal• Re-new your gym membershipYou would make a list such as this for each of your goals and then take the time to add them to your calendar. If you've got an iphone or another smart phone you can download apps that will support your setting and achieving your goals. At the end of each day you will be able to tick off the things you completed and move forward those things that you were unable to complete. Keep track of your victories and celebrate when you achieve them. This will cause you to want to continue to strive towards your goals even more.• Keep your goals where you can see them every day.• Create a vision board• Create a slideshow video using images that represent the achievement of your goals• Build in rewards for when you achieve minor and major milestones.• Be accountable to someone for your goals.• Listen to motivational and educational programs that will encourage you to achieve your goals.• Believe in yourself and your ability to get from where you are to where you'd like to be.• Encourage someone else who is struggling.So, now you have some ideas for taking your goals and putting legs on them. Pick one of these ideas and implement it right now. Interact with your goals every day until you achieve them. Focus your laser-targeted attention on your goals and they will become a reality.

Happy New Year to BBWO

I hope everyone had a great year in 2009, and I wish all you ladies the BEST in 2010!!!! I have been mia on the net for the past 7months. I have been Blessd to continue my education so that has been my main focus. I know there are some of us who juggle everything that's going on in their lives on one plate, but I had to find out that my health is important too. So I have decided to put my social marketing online on the back burner so to speak. My education is very important to me. Im so proud to be 40 (mistaken for 30 lol), and back to getting the education I've always wanted (God is so good!!! ). I also have been getting closer to God and learning that I don't have to do things to please others to make myself feel good. If ppl don't like me for who I am then they are not the people for me. I will find a real true husband not in my time but in Gods time. I can see that 2010 is going to be a great year for me, even though in 2009 some doors closed right in my face, so many windows opened up for me too. I am a Black Woman who loves life, and I love sharing my experiences with people just to let them know that everything is going to be alright if they just trust and have faith. Life for me is not all about how much money/friends I have. For me life is alll about how happy I am.Im going to hit the books after posting this blog, and just continue to Be Blessed. Oh and just because Im getting closer to God and Im all about pleasing the Lord this does not make me a "RELIGIOUS" chick so please don't get it twisted. I don't need people sending me all kinds of scriptures or telling me how much God loves me I already know these things. God and I have our relationship just like you may have your relationship with the Lord it may not be the same. But I don't want to get into that because that would take up too much time. The Dream Realized!

This morning as I get ready to take the kids to the parade I read this speech and it made me realize how powerful and prophetic these words were! I am in tears thinking about the greatness of the Lord and how he has brought us from a mighty long way to think that I can have a site with all types of Women together hand and hand helping each other! I love it! May we never forget the words of those before us!

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of captivity.But one hundred years later, we must face the tragic fact that the Negro is still not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. So we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition.In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. So we have come to cash this check -- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the Negro. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. Those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone.And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow cells. Some of you have come from areas where your quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair.I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.I have a dream today.I have a dream that one day the state of Alabama, whose governor's lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.I have a dream today.I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.This is our hope. This is the faith with which I return to the South. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with a new meaning, "My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."And if America is to be a great nation this must become true. So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania!Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado!Let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of California!But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia!Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee!Let freedom ring from every hill and every molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

Pull up your da** pants! Parents, teachers, pastors and community leaders across the country are screaming at the top of their lungs. Municipalities that are firing teachers because they can’t afford to pay them are spending thousands to erect billboards to shout the message. I s it only me or does it strike anybody else as ludicrous that our communities, our leaders, have chosen our children’s underwear as a point of galvanization?Okay, so there is no confusion, I don’t like the sagging pants style, but that’s what it is ya’ll, a style, and as such, it constitutes a pi** poor basis on which to judge our kids.Several communities have taken their displeasure with underwear to the point of fratricide. No, I haven’t heard of a murder in the name of underwear outrage, yet, but there are cities large and small, from Florida to California that have made the style illegal. You heard me African American adults across the country have voted to incarcerate their sons for sagging pants. So you tell me, are our children really of so littlevalue to us we are ready to willingly sacrifice them to a system we know wants them dead over their underwear?Okay, again, I know how it looks and I know where the style originates but WTF? Is our love and respect for our children really predicated on their drawers? And before you come with the buts and the finger pointing, let me remind you four of those fingers are pointing back at you, at us. A child’s failure to know is firmly rooted in a parent’s failure to teach.Most of our kids can’t identify Paul Robeson or Phyllis Wheatley, don’t know George Jackson or the Afrika family. Our babies ain’t never heard of Fannie Lou or Edmund Pettus. We’re mad because they seem to be running every which way, but it was us who failed to give them any direction. Today there are 3 times as many African American sons, brothers, fathers between the ages of 18 – 25 enslaved by the penal system as there are enrolled in college. And we’re trippin over our babies’ underwear?I say not just no, but ah he** no! This must stop now! Our children, our sons, are so much more than their underwear. It’s time to proclaim our children’s value from the rooftops. It’s time to encourage and support our kids in shouting their own value from the stars. Picking up where my people left off

Recently my partner and I were discussing possible stereotypical backlash now that our first “Oodleville” children’s book, The First Trip, has been published, and Bubba Oodle, our first character doll, is available. For me, the Oodles’ black color has been the subject of conjecture since I began working to manifest my dream.In our conversation, therefore, we talked about ways to address the dolls’ color. We discussed comparing the Oodles to gollywogs who were and still are depictions of black-faced minstrels who were entertainers during the days of slavery. In 1965, however, all caricature depictions of blacks, like gollywogs, were deemed politically incorrect. This action also caused many creative works by blacks to also be exiled to local or near-underground marketing.Although gollywogs have been removed from public display, they have been sold for over a hundred years in England, and can still be purchased online and through gollywog clubs in the U.S. The Oodles, however, are not gollywogs, nor do they represent any aspect of minstrels or slavery…other than the fact that I am black and a descendant of slaves.My grandmother, Mary Pigues, was born in 1865, the year that slavery was legally abolished. My grandfather, Ben Pigues, who was much older than Grandma was obviously a slave. On my father’s side, the similar situations probably existed. Prior to slavery, I imagine my ancestors being free, happy and enjoying life in Africa.“Oodleville” is a similar world, and the Oodles are characters conceived in my heart and mind and created from my imagination. Rather than human, they are human-ess; meaning they possess the best of human values like honesty, caring, compassion, empathy, forgiveness, and commitment.They represent my freedom of expression, and are simply playthings for all children, and their color should not determine whether or not they have merit. My mission for Oodleville and the Oodles is to bring fun, friendship, a new perspective, and a unique product by a black person back to the mainstream…to pick up where my people left off.www.thefirsttrip.com
