New Social Media Site that Pays You to Refer

I've been social networking now for a few years and consider myself pretty "hard core." I check FB daily as well as share pics and/or videos, and on a regular basis I add  comments to the crazy things that my friends post. Some are true classics! In recent days, I've become more and more concerned about what I read about social networking sites selling the information that they compile about me as I use their site. Evidently, the 500,000,000 of us sharing our likes/dislikes, talking about where we go and what we do-is really big business-and by that I mean-big MONEY business. SNS sell our personal information as well as our content to third parties-who are clamoring to find potential sales. I mean I know they have to make money, but at what price to us-the users. And it seems so easy for private information shared on these sites to become available to everyone. Have you ever Googled your name or searched Google Images?  You read terrible stories about things that happen as a result of private information made public from these sites. A friend mentioned to me that she was using crazygood.com - a subscription-based social networking site that doesn't sell users' info or even allow ads. I still FB often but use it more as a search for friends now, and to make business connections because it's so massive. For sharing info, photos, etc., I'll be usingCrazygood. It just makes me feel more protected, and I'm back in control of my own information. If you're concerned about your cyber safety and want to be SURE your private information remains just that-PRIVATE. In addition, Crazygood allows you to earn some extra money just by referring your friends. When's the last time FB paid you for anything? I'm not downing Facebook...  I can't even say I have a REAL problem with the third party ads. I only question some of their ethics in regards to using our information, and believe that if my life, my pictures, and , my stories are going to be sold, then I should get something in return. If they do go public, shouldn't we all get a share... or maybe even half a share... a quarter... SOMETHING????  *sigh* I digress...

We all know that social media is here to stay. If nothing else Crazygood is just another place for you to post content and connect with others. Check it out

Wishing you growth and prosperity!

In today’s business world, social media can’t be ignored. By utilizing social media as a part of your marketing strategy is an obvious step towards growth of your business. Social media is a great way to leverage your products or services. It is an easy and inexpensive way to connect to people around the world and an opportunity to make friends with people who have similar interests, find solutions to problems by collaborating with others, as well as attract clients that might need your products or services.

According to a recent survey on online social networking by the Institute for Corporate Productivity:

  • 65% of business professionals use some form of personal or professional social network
  • 47% use social networks to connect with potential clients and market their skills
  • 55% use social networks to share best practices with colleagues

So, ready to jump on the Social Media Bandwagon? Here are 4 reasons why small businesses can benefit from social media.

Increase Your Opportunities

By incorporating social media into your business strategy, can increase your chances of opportunities beyond your local area. It is an excellent way to increase the visibility of your small business. As the founder of a virtual community, ‘National Association Women on the Rise’ (NAWR), I’ve had some amazing opportunities to connect with other business professionals and organizations. For example, a few opportunities this year include:

  • Co-Author: I developed a relationship with Cheryl Pullins, Founder and Chief Visionary of Victorious Living International and Triumphant Living Coaching & Training. I am now co-author of “Victorious Living for Moms,” an amazing journey of 40 writers from across the United States who came together for the common goal of sharing their stories of trial and triumph for the purpose of impacting lives and changing people with a message of hope, love and victory.
  • National Advisor: I was invited by Omar Muhammad, Director at Morgan State University; Entrepreneurial Development & Assistance Center; 2010 National Board of Advisors. We planned and executed the W.O.M.E.N’s conference. I also served as a seminar presenter.
  • Key Note Speaker: I was contracted by the Women in Business group of Pensacola, FL., to provide a business related seminar for their annual holiday conference.

As you can see, by taking time and establishing relationships with others can open doors of opportunities for you.

Position Yourself as an Expert

Business owners are always looking for ways to position themselves as an expert in their industry. One way is to start a blog and create relevant content for your target market. For example, as a business consultant specializing in helping women grow their companies, I write business related articles and regularly post to my blog, ‘Sylvia Browder’s Blog for Women Entrepreneurs.’ I also accept articles from others. By creating this platform for women to find resources, I have a few hundred visitors each week to my blog. When people choose to follow you, they have accepted you as an expert in your industry and look to you as a reliable source.

Here are a few ways to get the word out:

  • Share links from your articles by using Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook
  • Respond to people’s questions in forums and networking communities
  • Partner with other bloggers to post your articles on their sites. For instance, I am a featured blogger for several blogs and publications including Natalie MacNeil’s, “She Takes on the World,” a blog that recently won the prestigious Stevie Award for Blog of the Year. In addition, she is listed as Forbes, “10 Best Career Sites for Women.”

Make the Connections

Business owners can use social media to communicate and engage network connections with potential clients, partners, vendors or advertisers, etc. Social media networks such Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook and MySpace are great tools to create viral buzz about your business.
It is easy to make an initial connection, but you must take the time to develop that connection into a relationship. Remember, people do business with people they know and trust.

Natasha Rubin, owner of Gifted Assistant Management Services, says, “As a Virtual Assistant, I am a part of several wonderful Virtual Assistant communities. But last year, I wanted to branch out into other forums and arenas where I had the opportunity to meet and network with other successful women business owners. I was honored when I received an invitation from Sylvia Browder to join "National Association Women on the Rise," through LinkedIn. A short time after I posted in the "Introduce Yourself" forum, I was contacted by another member of NAWR for a possible business connection.

That was in November 2009 and I am still partnering with Walethia Aquil, Etiquette & Image Coach of
Grace and Charm, as her Virtual Assistant. So yes, NAWR has been a great resource both professionally and personally! Thank you for making that possible.”

Build Lasting Relationships

If you put up your profile to never update or visit the social media site again, what are potential clients and business partners to think? In order to blossom and make an impact in the communities that you join, you must network. Networking is a reciprocal process based on the exchange of ideas, contacts, advice and referrals. By networking, you are building professional relationships and generating new business.

In conclusion, don't be afraid of social media but rather embrace it. Many small businesses are climbing aboard the social media bandwagon to market themselves for free or low cost marketing. It just makes good business sense to learn how to leverage social media to build communities around brands and then leverage them into revenue.

"For Colored Girls"

I truly enjoyed Tyler Perry's new movie. Well, maybe an understatement; I loved the movie. Even though I sat in awe AND cried during most of the movie. I pledge to see it again and once it comes out on video (oops, that shows my age a bit), I will own it. Come visit my blog IAmSocialButterfly, to see what I had to say about the movie. I hope you would drop a comment over there as well.

Are you using Social Media like Twitter and Facebook to build your list? Are you building a list?

One thing you must be doing if you’re going to realize any level of business empowerment is list building.

One of the most important things in an Internet Marketing business is a list of contacts. It’s important for you to build relationshpswith your customers. Your contacts are called subscribers on your listsand they are the most important asset of your business. List buildingincorporates building relationships. Your prospects are encouraged tovisit your website through your marketing efforts. Hopefully they signup to receive your free offer which should be of value to them and youare given an opportunity to build rapport with them and share thesolutions you have with them.

You notice I said you have the opportunity to share your solutions with them. Unless you have the opportunity to build rapport andincrease the know, like and trust factor you will only share yoursolutions and never have the opportunity of actually add them to yourclient/customer community.

One way to build your list is to use Social Media.

Social media includes Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace and it actually includes blogging. There are many other Social sites, however,my focus at this time is on Twitter and Facebook.

If you don’t have an account on Twitter you can go to www.twitter.com and you’ll see a prompt to register and you’ll need tofollow each one. The one thing you need to keep in mind is that thefirst impression is important having said that you need to have aphoto. If you have a business you might opt for a business logo, however, I would suggest that you have at least one account with yourpersonal name and then add another one. The other important thing is tohave a link to your blog or website. I suggest your blog or if you havea free offer (recommended) have a link on your page to direct them toyour free offer. This will also enhance your list building endeavors. You can only use one email per account.

If you don’t have an account on Facebook go to http://www.facebook.com you’ll see a link to register. Follow theprompts. Same thing with regard to your photo. Don’t post every linkunder the sun on your profile. Be intentional and don’t confuse yourfriends.

You need to know the proper etiquette for each site. Twitter is a fast mover. You can actually tweet all day, however, there is a rulewith regard to the ratio. You want to do more original tweets, followedby retweets and then maybe 20% tweets to your own offers, links etc.

Facebook is a little slower. You don’t want to post updates all day and resist posting links to your business for the majority of yourupdates on your profile wall. Your profile is for personal and there isa facebook fanpage that can be used for business.

Now back to the idea of list building. You need to know what your target market is and your goals for Facebook and/or Twitter. Withoutthis you won’t have any real results.

You’ll want to know your Twitter and Facebook strategy.

Then there are followers and friends. How do you add targeted followers on Facebook/ How do you add targeted friends on facebook?

These are all great questions. I can’t answer everything in this post however, I do want to invite you to request free access to myTele-training “I Rock on Twitter and Facebook and you can too!” Go to http://budurl.com/irocktwitterfacebook and you’ll receive immediate access.

If you want advanced support I invite you to learn more about my “I Rock on Twitter and Facebook Social Media Empowerment Coaching club.”You can go here

Brand Makers News The small business resource for urban entrepreneurs named25 urban entrepreneurs to follow on Twitter. I was named 1 of 25 otherentrepreneurs. It was a pleasant surprise and I was in good company.

When I started on Twitter I didn’t get it. People were talking about what they had for breakfast, lunch and dinner and some of the tweetswere a little embarrassing. I couldn’t get with the 140 characterlimit. So, I just set it aside for a few. I soon noticed a trend ofFriday Follow mentions and one of the common denominators of most wasthat it was those who had a great following so I vowed to get morefollowers so I could be included in a Follow Friday mention. I soonacquired a taste for quality over quantity and started tweetingoriginal and other empowering quotes. I soon watched as othersretweeted my posts and soon followed. I watched and learned more andmore about Twitter. I started off as @RobinTramble and soon added @empowermentdivawhich I stuck with. Well, my following is a little over 100 followers,I like to call them friends I now have over 8000 friends/followers andit was au naturale’ no gimmicks.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all of the talk about Social Media? Are you spending more than 30 minutes max per day on Twitter? Facebook? You don’t have to spend most of your day on these sites. I’ll sharewith you a couple of resources that can assist you in leveraging yourtime.

Some of what I’m going to share can also be applied to other Social Media sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn, however, in this post I willfocus on Twitter.

What is Twitter? Well, where have you been? LOL

Twitter is a great resource to enhance your marketing efforts and will definitely offer
Business Empowerment when you know what you’re doing.

Twitter would have to be one of the fastest growing sites on the web today. It is taking the internet by storm and there are around 10,000new users per day signing up to participate in this internet revolution.

Twitter is best described as a micro blogging platform. You are limited to 140 characters each time you do an update, which initially, may seem a small amount. However, as you become more experienced, it’sjust amazing what you can fit into 140 characters.

That said, Twitter is much, much more than that. It is like one huge global chat room, but then again, it doesn’t have to be. It all dependson how many people you follow on Twitter. If it’s in the thousands, then your “Tweetstream” will be running fast and furious witheverything that’s coming in. If you are only following a few hundred,or even less, then things are much easier to keep up with.

Twitter is also a great way to meet new people online, particularly those with similar interests to you. It’s a great way to be visible andposition yourself as an expert in your field to your target audience orniche.

You can set up an account by going to www.twitter.com you’ll see prompts to guide you through the process. If you need support I dooffer mini coaching packages to help you develop a strategy, get set up,and get targeted followers.

Now here are a couple of resources to help you leverage your time on Twitter.

4 Super duper tips for social media success

Social networking is serious business! This is social networking for the 21st century, one in which every business owner should get on board with. As entrepreneurs, it is essential that you continually generate new ideas in order to maximize the profit-making potential of your venture.
Social media is a great way to leverage your products or services. It is an easy and inexpensive way to connect to people around the world and an opportunity to make friends with people who have similar interests, find solutions to problems they might have by collaborating with others, as well as attract clients that might need your products or services. Be more strategic.

Here are 4 Super Duper Tips for Social Media Success:
Super Duper Tip 1: Create a Strategy
Social media is comprised of many different platforms. Creating and implementing a marketing strategy for using social media is extremely important. This will alleviate a lot of time wasted and help you to focus on the most effective way to use it and decide which social networks best suit your business needs. Three things to consider in your plan:

  • Primary goal: decide on the purpose and goals for establishing social media
  • Content: decide on the message you want to convey to your target audience. It is important that your content is in line with your company’s mission and values.
  • Measure Your Progress: Set a timeline for the appropriate time to measure your success. This will allow you to make adjustments to your strategy.

Super Duper Tip 2: Know your audience
Often, I consult with clients who after talking to them, I find that they have not considered who their customers are. Most of them want to sell their products or services to any and everybody who will buy from them. I explain to them that they cannot be everything to everybody, it just won’t work! Imagine having to create a marketing campaign to attract a dozen or so industries. You would have to because one shoe does not fit all!

While using social media can allow you to reach millions of people, you want to make sure you are reaching the appropriate audience. Though Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin are the most popular at this time, make sure you research other social sites that can give you the greatest access to your audience.

By knowing your audience, will dramatically increase your effectiveness! This is important both online and offline. Again, know your audience!

Super Duper Tip 3: Protect Your Image or Die!
The image your business portrays sends an important message to your clients. It is easy to get too comfortable and let down your guard when using various social networks. It is important to treat people with the same respect online as you do offline. Truth is information travels like wild fire! If you have a dissatisfied customer; in the matter of seconds, they can post negative information about your business.

For example, if I was dissatisfied with the way I was treated as a consumer from a business, I could post my complaint to my 1900 twitter followers or to my 1200 fans Facebook. Imagine the impact if a percentage of my followers also shared that post with people in their network? A web savvy customer can literally shred your company to pieces as well as destroy your credibility and reputation with a single post. Protect your reputation. Remember, image is everything!

Super Duper Tip 4: Build Lasting Relationships
If you put up your profile to never update or visit the social media site again, what are potential clients and business partners to think? In order to blossom and make an impact in the communities that you join, you must network. Networking is a reciprocal process based on the exchange of ideas, contacts, advice and referrals. By networking, you are building professional relationships and generating new business.

In closing, more and more local small businesses and non-profit organizations are climbing aboard the social media bandwagon to market themselves for free. It just makes good business sense to learn how to leverage social media to build communities around brands and then leverage them into revenue.

Women: Stick Together

I was having a conversation with Tee89 over at Fabby Girl, about women sticking together. Iwas never one to have many female friends growing up, but now as anadult, I see the value in having female friends. It's just two sexes onthis planet. And, the males have dominated it, but last I heard, theearth was called MOTHER EARTH. So, women, take heed in our power. Someof us are fragile, weak-minded, strong, strong-willed when we are byourselves. Imagine when all of us with our many talents and weaknessesand strengths bond together.

For Day 6 in our social media success challenge for dance studios, I’d like to emphasize the importance of using all different types of media to promote your dance studio. With millions of dance studios,
dance companies, and dance-related businesses out there, you may wonder,

“How can I stand out amongst my competitors?”

The answer to that question is: Video

Videos allow you to show the world who you are, what you (and your business) are all about, and gives people an opportunity to get to know you on a more personal level. Even in today’s time of social media, e-mail, texting, etc., people still appreciate being able to see the face of the person who’s articles they’re reading, who they’re
conversing with through Facebook, Twitter, etc., and connect with them in a tangible way. This also helps to personalize your dance studio or brand in a way that will attract people to you and your business.

Check out a video that I did where I talk about my career as a professional dancer/dance instructor in New York City. It has some clips of my choreography at a recent performance, as well as testimonials
from some of my students about my dance classes.

Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think about the video, and also how it
feels to put a face with the author of this article.

Women's Empowerment Tips: Take your power back!

The most common way people give up their power
is by thinking they don't have any.

~ Alice Walker ~

I recently posted an update to Facebook that received a
few inspired comments. I was not only speaking of women in
relationships with men as much as I was speaking overall
about the power you must express over your life and situations
that you face.

My audio 5 mistakes women make includes giving their power away
and this is so true, however, the quote above sheds a different light.
There are some who give up their power by thinking they don't have
any. Thinking that somehow they have to wait for approval to succeed.
Waiting to be validated instead of realizing that the power is within
them and success is in their hands.

How many times have you come to the realization that someone
was out to harm you or sabotage your endeavors and yet you
continued to tolerate their behavior and allow them in your space?

Here's one of the massive action steps I shared in my session for The
Empowered Woman Entrepreneur Telesummit.

Honor your boundaries
Boundaries protect you from people that your spirit cannot easily afford.

The update I shared is below. I would enjoy reading your comments.

You don't have to wait for anyone's permission to succeed. You have
everything within you. Success is in your hands. Make sure you are
connected to individuals that will inspire you to stretch. When you
find someone who is not for you have the courage to let them go. You
know it when you see it now be empowered through your union with your
Father God and let them go. It's not mean, you're protecting your
destiny. Eliminate the negatives. That is all.

Are you ready to realize a juicy manifestation of deliciously
authentic life and business empowerment? Great!

you in your empowering success endeavors. Request yours by clicking here.

Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, feel like you have the gift of gab or just don’t know how to make small talk, networking know-how is very important for your business success. There is a notion in business that I believe most of us subscribe to that says “all things being equal, people will do business with and refer business to those they know, like and trust.” And the key to this is obviously being able to develop relationships.Think of networking as the cultivation of mutually beneficial, win-win relationships. In order to be win-win, there must be GIVE and take (notice the emphasis on give). Networking shouldn’t be viewed as “events” where you go to sell your business. When effective networking is taking place, the parties involved actively share ideas, information, resources, etc.Ok, so you know that you should be networking because it is one of the most cost-effective lead generation activities when used wisely, appropriately and professionally. But, maybe that seems easier said than done. Here’s a seven step plan to really get going with networking for your business.1. Check out several groups to find the best chemistry and perceived value. Most groups will allow you to come and visit at least a couple of times before you have to join. Go and ask around to find out why others have joined and what value they get out of belonging.Resist the urge to just go join the Chamber of Commerce simply because everyone tells you that’s what you need to do. If that’s not where your target group can be found, then you might just be wasting a considerable amount of time (and money).I’m not telling you not to join the Chamber. Just be clear about what you’d like to get out of this or any other group. If it’s to find prospective clients or referral sources, then you need to be networking where those resources can be found.2. When you find a group or two, join and go to all the meetings you can. Don’t go just once or twice expecting things to happen and then if they don’t quit. Building mutually beneficial, win-win relationships will take some time. The contacts you make need to constantly see your face and hear your message. Continual contact with others over time will open up opportunities for you to go deeper and learn more about each others thoughts, ideas and capabilities in regards to your respective businesses.Know, like, and trust generally only happens over time. Being regular and persistent will pay off.3. Get involved - be visible. Do as much as you can to make yourself more visible within the organization. Volunteer to help with meetings, be on committees, or become a leader or board member.Being involved does a couple of things for you and your business. First, you’ll get more opportunities to establish connections and get to know some of the contacts you’ve made even better. Secondly, the higher the visibility you have in the group, the less you’ll have to work to make new connections. Instead, as new people come into the group, they will likely seek you out because they view you as a leader within the organization.4. Keep your circles of contacts informed. Don’t just assume that running in to someone once a month (or even once a week) will cause them to start doing business with you or sending it your way. You need to let them know what’s going on when you’re not at that particular group in order to inform and educate them.Send them invitations to your events or open houses. Send them email or letters to share big news or success stories, especially anything of relevance to them or those in their networks of contacts. If you believe that you have valuable ideas, information and resources to share with others, then doesn’t this just make sense?5. Work at GIVING referrals and sharing valuable information. That’s right, you need to be willing to GIVE before you get. That means you need to get to know other members and what makes a good prospect for them. What kinds of information might you have access to that could be useful to them? You may initially think you don’t have much of value to share with others (besides your business and what you provide). Part of the key to getting good at giving is to not make assumptions. For example, don’t assume that some basic resource (e.g., a web site) that you’re aware of is familiar to someone you might be talking to just because they are the “expert” in that field. Be willing to ask if they know about the resource and ready to share if they don’t.Want to get better at actually giving referrals? Here’s a simple question to ask someone you’re connecting with. “How am I going to know when I meet a really good prospect for you?”Just the fact that you are willing to explore giving will elevate your know, like and trust factor.6. Focus on Quality, not Quantity, Quantity, Quantity. It’s not necessarily about the number of connections you make, but about the quality of the ones you do make. Are they mutually beneficial, win-win relationships?Quality connections will be identifiable because all involved parties will be actively sharing ideas, information, and resources. Yes, it is true that you need to spend some time and effort getting to know the other person(s) and what’s important to them. But, you also need to be clear and actively thinking about what information or resources you want and need.Staying in touch with and following up with a smaller number of quality relationships will generally be much more productive than trying to follow up with a larger number of superficial contacts.7. Be persistent, but be patient. The goal of a networking event shouldn’t necessarily be to come away with prospects every time you go out, but to come away with great connections. Networking usually takes time to get the relationships developed and nurtured.Don’t approach networking as a scary proposition or a necessary evil for being in business. Take the pressure off yourself and really focus on how you might be able to connect with someone you meet. Focus on them first and look for ways to be useful to them. As you become known as a connector you’ll eventually be ready to reap what you sow.

Does your career in this publishing biz stump you sometimes? So much information and not sure what to do next? Need some help?

Suppose you could sit down with the most successful people in your field andjust talk with them to learn what they know.

Well, here is the deal. YOU can learn what they know - and you can probably do it forlittle or no cost! You just have to get your head in the game (quitfocusing on only YOU), be observant, vigilant, coach-able andappreciative.

If you are a novice wanting to learn the book industry or an author needing to learn how to market books better or abusiness/ministry leaders looking to learn a new skill - you can get theinformation you need - sometimes for free - by following the leaders.

I mean really becoming a "student" of the person. That means becoming adisciple and real follower who is disciplined to learn, listen, studyand DO!

It's amazing to me to see folks struggling to do something and there are mentors online all around. In the age of the internet, acouple of clicks on Google and you can find blogs, books, podcasts, webinars and websites or the some of the best and brightest minds on theplanet.

But don't just find their info - and email them. That's the lazy way! That's the way to be put in the spam and "blocked" folderfor real.

So, what do you do once you find a person you feel is the next link in your destiny?

Follow them religiously. Not stalk but become a protege by doing the following things:

1. Be social! Be their Facebook friend, join their groups or be on theirfan pages every day! Read their updates and comment on their statuses.

It's easy to get overwhelmed from the 400 million folks online but zone inon your "fav five" or "top ten." The folks you need to learn from, folksyou admire, model and want to know how they think, operate and livetheir lives. Now, don't copy. And don't "hate on" them. A protegeappreciates a mentor. Learn to give accolades and tell others of thewonderful info you're getting from your online mentor! Spread the loveand it will come back to you!

Be part of every social site where they are - if they are on Twitter, you follow them on Twitter andretweet their tweets. If they are on Facebook or Twitter, make sure youget the SMS updates to your phone. Pick up clues and run with it.

2. Blog. This is the easiest way to really learn from your mentorand get noticed by them fast. Because this is their weblog or onlinediary, you know what they're thinking, doing, working on and can sensethe direction their business is going. Read all their old blog posts.Become a student! Do you homework. Also, click all the buttons and linkson their blog and find out what they're into and how you can add thosesame buttons, widgets or links to your own blog. But the main thing, isto comment on their posts! Be social when social networking!

3. Email. Of course you have subscribed to their email list and readevery email (even if they send something out every day), right? This isthe secret. The mentor's emails are the keys to your next level. Whenyour mentor sends an email to his/her list, they are talking to YOU.

So, pay attention - they would not send a frivolous email, they are a Proremember? That's why you are following them and NOT other way around.

Here's what you can find out from reading, saving and keep up with your onlinementor's emails:

1. Their upcoming events, teleseminars, recent blog posts or media exposure
2. Their style, wording of each email - so you can benchmark youremail campaigns.
3. Their pattern for doing things. What days to they send emails, what times?
4. Their "hot buttons" and what is on the cutting edge in theindustry

If they send a lot of emails, learn to manage it. You want to learn from them? Deal with it. Put the emails in a folder onyour computer desktop or print them out and put in a binder so you canread during your lunch hours - whatever it takes to be a good studentand stay on top of their information - do it!

If the information is coming fast and furious, maybe you're not ready for the level thatyou think you are. Think about it. If you can't read emails from yourmentor, then you probably wouldn't be able to keep up with their pacethey are on. You're just reading - they're doing the writing. Anyway, why would you want to follow an online mentor if their pace was slowerthan yours?) So, suck it up and get organized.

4. Finally, and most important - appreciate and acknowledge your online mentor/coach.This is THE KEY to your success. I find that most people don't do thisand consequently they don't get the results they're looking for or theFAVOR. Most folks are so self-absorbed that they rarely take time to bekind to others. It is great to have focus, but you need a team to makethe dream work.

And a day of favor is worth more than years of labor - any day! So, want to learn from those on the next level? Learnto:

1. Listen. Be observant. Be vigilant.
2. Read. Scan. Speed read. Print and save information.
3. Be curious. Click all the buttons! Do what they do. Model themonline
4. Thank the mentor/coach. Let them know you are watching them andyou appreciate them. Never hate on your help. Don't be a rival friend. You must learn to get rid of jealous feelings and not be envious. How?

By showing gratitude. This is CRITICAL to getting over envy and gettingfavor! Sounds easy? It is. Do people do these things consistently? Only arare few who are ready to get in the game and really win!

Tween Advocate & Author - Traci Campbell, Chicago, ILGiven all of the pressures and issues today’s tweens face, the internet is both a blessing and, potentially, a curse. Many local companies and entrepreneurs are taking up the cause to make the internet, and specifically social networking, a safer environment for tweens.

Many tweens are just being awakened to the allure of the internet world. Their initial exposure may be limited to just sending email or looking up items on Google. However, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter usage will likely come into play for tweens as well.

To assist in the issue of protecting tweens online, a new social networking site, called BFF less than three, is being created. The creators, Roy and Ed Suda, are recent Illinois Institute of Technology grads. For those new to social networking and internet lingo, “BFF” is short for “Best Friends Forever” and the less than three (the number three) looks like a heart laying on its side.

This new network will focus on the security and safety of tweens by employing a couple of methods. First, the network will use the idea of “necklaces” to not only verify the user, but to also make it possible, once the user is verified, to connect only to others that the user knows. Secondly, the network will provide parents a report, via email, so that they can regularly see the communication trail of their tween. Such safeguards will help parents to mitigate the risk and exposure of online predators.

While the BFF network sounds like a potentially great social network for tweens, there will still be the need for parents to actively monitor their tween’s online usage. Starting with mentally accepting that the online world is a major component of how this generation communicates is key. Parents who may not already be internet or computer savvy will need to educate themselves more thoroughly in order to effectively help in the safeguarding tweens as they mature in their own personal internet and social network usage.
