Harry Aldrich and David Maddock knew that many people loved the taste ofcedar plank salmon. But only fine restaurants served this delicacy. Sothey decided to sell a cedar plank salmon kit consisting of little morethan a 6” x 12” piece of cedar wood. A brilliant idea.
Aldrich set up a meeting with the seafood buyer for the Fred Meyerstores in Portland, Oregon, and walked in with a fillet of salmon cookedon one of his cedar planks. He didn't give a sales pitch. He justhanded over the fish and a fork.
The buyer took a bite. "WOW! Where did you get this fish? It's wonderful!"
When Aldrich told him he bought the fish that very morning in a FredMeyer store, the buyer was astonished. Within a week, Harry Aldrich andDavid Maddocks had orders from more than 100 Fred Meyer stores.
The lesson? Sometimes, if you have a good product, the best way to sellit is to let people try it. Because desirable products can sellthemselves. But can you do this in direct mail? Yes. And it's easierthan you think.

Deciding Which Colleges to Apply to.
Once you've done your research and gathered all the information you need, you may think you are ready to decide which colleges to apply to. Not so fast! Do you really have all the information you need to make an informed, reasonable, and heartfelt decision?
An Informed Decision
An informed decision means you have all the facts. If you are missing some detail or information, you should fill in the gaps. If the information you need isn't in the college publications you already have or available from other sources you have access to, call the appropriate department at the college. Most importantly, visit the college if you can. Make sure you have all the facts you need before you make your decision.
A Reasonable Decision
A reasonable decision means that you have considered your chances of acceptance at the colleges you're most interested in. What's more, if you do get accepted, you know you'll be able to afford it. Finally, you should be fairly confident of succeeding at the colleges personally and academically. Review each school's admissions requirements and make sure you are a solid candidate and that your qualifications match what the school is looking for.
A Heartfelt Decision
A heartfelt decision means you aren't basing your decision solely on measurable criteria, that you're also going with your intuition and instincts — that you're following your gut. You should feel good about each campus and the people there. Each school should fit your personality in important ways — and challenge you in just the right ways.
The Right Decision
Make sure you're happy with every college on your list before you apply — you know you will be attending one of them.
Go ahead and pick two or three "dream" colleges, as long as you think you might have any chance at all of getting in.
Then choose two or three more realistic colleges, still close to what you want, but not as selective as the dream schools.
Finally, pick two or three "safe" choices, colleges you think you'll like and that you know will admit you.
Although cost is certainly an important factor, don't automatically exclude colleges based on high costs alone. If you qualify academically you may very well qualify for *sufficient financial aid as well. Once you've made your final decision, go ahead and request application materials if you don't already have them. Complete your applications, concentrate on your senior year classes, and wait for the envelopes from the college admission offices with a minimum of stress. A final review of all the factors influencing your decision will boost your confidence that you are well on your way to a college that's right for you.

Today I wrote on my website about the current TAX AMNESTY program taking place in Washington, DC and how residents there can take advantage of it. Not sure what a Tax Amnesty is? Basically it's when your states department of revenue either reduces or completely eliminates penalties and fines incurred when you failed to file and pay your taxes. States do this as a way to bring citizens in compliance as well as to raise revenue (DC expects to raise $20 million from their program)
How do they raise money? Simple, oftentimes what may stop you from paying taxes once you realize you owe is the penalties and fines imposed and the high cost of hiring a tax firm to help negotiate a lower rate is a hefty expense as well. The government has to spend money hiring auditors, initiating garnishments, and the sort. When many states are faced with tight budgets and low revenues, offering a Tax Amnesty to abate outstanding tax penalties is the answer they need.

Remember when viewers just wanted to be entertained or informed? With the creation of reality television and social media websites, those days are long gone. Viewers of today don’t just dream about being around stars; they actually want to become them. Its part of a new trend I discovered while watching the online buzz surrounding Oprah’s recent contest, win Your OWN SHOW, Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star. As I watched ambitious contestants develop their video entries and share them with everyone they could, it was like watching Oprah’s new show go viral overnight. Whether they realized it or not, beyond promoting themselves all these people were creating a great deal of free publicity for Oprah’s OWN Network.
Getting millions of people to talk about what you are doing without paying them to do it is absolutely ingenious. While there are many ways to accomplish this goal, in this case the solution of choice is sharing the spotlight with your audience. Today, limiting yourself to traditional marketing won’t get you very far. Similar to Oprah, you’ll find many companies are creating online platforms for their viewers to develop content, share ideas, vote on topics of interest, and let their voice be heard. Take a look at Pepsi’s We Inspire Project for Black Women or their Refresh Project to improve the world; all examples of how companies are using social media tools to build their buzz online.
Can you build your online buzz Oprah style? Even without having Oprah status, it is absolutely possible to get online viewers excited about who you are and what you are doing.
• If you are selling a particular product, you can give away a shopping spree. Ask your customers / online viewers to submit product videos, post them on you tube for buzz and select the best one. You can go a step further by asking contestants to get people to vote on their videos. Similar to the Oprah example, when asking others to vote for them, they are simultaneously promoting themselves and your business.
• Ever heard of the 50 Million Pound Challenge created to motivate more African Americans to lose weight? How about you create a own challenge unique to your business. Make is something that can really help to improve the lives of the customers in your market and that will motivate many to participate with their friends and family. Remember that people have to see real value in your challenge if they are going to commit to participating.
• On her website CreatingFame.com, Social Media Expert Laura Roader talks about how to make you and your business famous using social media. For those who sell a particular service, (like coaching for example), Laura recommends that you give your readers an opportunity to share their issues with you in exchange for an opportunity to win free services or deals. In addition to learning more about your customers, building an active discussion shows others how popular you are and how valuable your information is to others. At the end of the day, before they buy what you are selling, most new customers want to see that other people find value in what you do.
Quick Project:
Take an hour of your time, sit down and think about how you can engage the viewers in your circle and use that activity to build your buzz online.
Quick Click:
I am all about DIY Buzz Building... as a matter of fact, that is exactly how I built my online presence and turned my online side hustle into a full time work at home business. If you are ready, I can show you how to Find Customers, Make Sales, and Drive More Traffic to your website.

HolisticSister asked:
what is the difference between a special report and a ebook? whats a good price point to sell your first ebook or special report if you donthavea list
My response: @holisticister Reports are generally 4 - 10 pages, small, and free. eBooks range in length, usually under 45-60 pages, and are for purchase. Your price point for your eBook, has nothing to do with having a list. It's moreso about three things: demand, how much you want, and how much eBooks in your genre are being sold for. It's up to you to do the research and find out if there are similar eBooks on your topic and how much they are being sold for. Truth be told, if the demand is big enough, you can sell your eBook for however much you want.
One of my favorite eBooks, Desperate Buyers Only, which explains how to increase your eBook Sales... I spent $77 for and it was well worth it because it gave me a fresh perspective on how I was marketing my books. Just know that from experience, going the route of selling your ebooks at $1 or even $5 won't get you very far. With no list, 5 ebooks at $1 will only get you 5 bucks! Not a big profit, but you'd be surprised how many newbie ebook authors push their books for little to nothing because they THINK if its cheap enough, somebody will buy it. When that actually rarely happens and again the few sales you get won't break the bank.
The not-so secret secret here is setting a price that both works for you and your target audience and before anybody even thinks to question your price you've already shown that that both your information and your eBook is well worth it! Showing them that.... selling yourself as a valuable expert is what I plan on teaching you and 9 other women in the SistaSense Circle.
This was one of the questions I answered about selling ebooks, information, and/or coaching online. (scroll down on this page to read all responses) OR ask a question. This is all apart of something I'm putting together for my fellow infopreneurs (those who need help selling their ebooks, services, and or coaching online) to ask me questions about selling information online and ultimately be apart of my SistaSense Circle (details here), a 4 Week Telecourse series for Information Entrepreneurs. There are currently less than 8 spaces left, I hope you join us!
When you look at marketing these days, most of the traditional strategies of advertising have become outdated. MLM network marketing has become a leading force in the advertising drive as it reacts to the consumer and includes the most updated strategies available. Traditional marketing such as TV, radio and print media focused on reaching as many people as possible in order to capture the attention of a particular few. This form of marketing has proven to be very pricey with no chance to track the success of various advertising programs. With MLM network marketing you take advantage of the next stage of advertising by embracing the idea of relationship marketing.
More companies are starting to realize the ineffectiveness of conventional marketing techniques. The internet has fast become the primary source of information, communication and shopping in the world. With MLM network marketing you have the opportunity to make an impact in the online environment through the utilization of relationship marketing and Send Out Cards.
Relationship marketing focuses not on attempting to reach a huge number of customers through generic advertising, but an effort to develop professional relationships with your customers. The advantages of the internet has attracted lots of clients and companies, but it has also turned businesses into faceless entities devoid of human contact. With relationship marketing you utilize the methods of MLM network marketing to help build relationships with your clientele, increasing consumer assurance and repeat business.
One of the most efficient methods to expand your MLM network marketing chance is with the utilization of an online tool, Send Out Cards. With Send Out Cards you're taking advantage of a technique which would allow you to often stay in touch with your clientele, developing that individual relationship which is so essential in relationship marketing. With Send out Cards you have the convenience of an online source which will offer you with a wide variety of templates that would merely require a personal message from you.
In addition, Send Out Cards could help your business in remembering important dates relating to your clientele including birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and more. Lastly Send Out Cards represents a low cost marketing source which will print, stuff and ship your custom-made cards at a fraction of the cost it will cost you to do it yourself.
MLM network marketing has surpassed the restrictions of traditional marketing and at present represents a crucial component of any successful business. The options which are offered to a business with Send Out Cards would drastically help your cause in building customer confidence in your business with relationship marketing.

Students Seeking Education by Experiencing Academic America (S.E.A.)

Pros and Cons of Historically Black Colleges & Universities?
Question: Is there anything wrong with attending a Historically Black college/university? Will my degree be looked upon differently?
Depending on your current preferences and your goals in life, choosing a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) could turn out to be a big plus. For instance, if you decide to apply to graduate school, you may find that admission officials are especially interested in you because of your *atypical undergraduate experience. Most grad school admission committees seek students who come from a range of undergraduate backgrounds, so the fact that you attended an HBCU might help you stand out in the crowd.
Also, there are a number of alumni associations that welcome graduates from all HBCU’s, which can be a great way to take advantage of social and career networking opportunities once you’re out of college. Sure, individual colleges and universities of all sorts usually have their own alumni groups, and many of these are also great ways to make and maintain connections, but as a member of the broader community of HBCU alums, your network will be even wider.
Keep in mind that there are some HBCU’s (e.g. Spelman and Morehouse colleges, Howard University) that are quite renowned and draw their students from across the country and beyond. Other HBCU’s enroll mostly local or regional students and are not so well known–or as academically challenging. So, depending on where you *matriculate, you can expect that some people will nod with understanding and approval or simply stare at you blankly when you provide your college’s name. Of course, this is true whether you attend an HBCU or not … some schools are familiar to many; others are obscure.
As with most colleges, too, there are pros and cons to attending an HBCU. I’ve known some students who missed the *racial diversity that they had in high school so they transferred out of an HBCU, but there are also many who *relished the support that an HBCU provided. I’ve also known African-American students who attended primarily white high schools and valued the chance that an HBCU provided to make strong ties with others who shared their own racial background.
So, the short answer to your question is that there is definitely nothing “wrong” with attending any Historically Black College or University. But, as with every college choice, the key is to find a school that seems to be the right fit for you, and even among the 100+ HBCU’s there is a lot of variety, so choose wisely.

Many women I speak to feel it's their marketing strategies and tactics that need to change in order for them to get more clients. That may be the case; however, there are other things to consider before going this route. What are some of those other things, BBWO? I'll go first. How about the time you spend actively marketing? How much time do you ladies spend each week actively marketing your businesses? My response: I have to agree with you Lavada, its not just about what your are doing ... it's also about how often and for whom? In other words: the frequency of your marketing campaigns and also the target market you choose to focus on. I find many women entrepreneurs feel they have a great product and are excited about bringing in the sales BUT they have no clue about market research nor do they truly understand what it means to be consistent with your marketing. For example: think about commercials... do you buy something every time you look at a commercial? No! But that is not the point... the point is to consistently be in the face of your target audience so when they are ready to buy ... they remember you. That is a BIG theme that we talk about in the Women of Color Coaching Program. More important to discovering the right marketing solutions is learning how to effectively work them! -lh Leave a comment to share your two cents or click here to join this discussion on BBWO.

Last night, I began spreading the word about my soon to begin SistaSense Circle, a new group for the women in my circle who are information entrepreneurs (selling ebooks, services, or coaching online). This is all stuff that I do, know and love to teach, so I decided to create this group for you. When you join the circle we'll do a one-on-one session to talk about your business and as a group, for four weeks we'll talk about what your marketing is missing, how to sell information online, and how to become a well known expert in your field.
Is this something you would be interested in? If yes...
#1: I'm doing a Live Chat on SistaSense.com for my fellow Infopreneurs who have questions about selling services, ebooks, coaching, etc. (link below). This live chat will continue all day tomorrow, Sunday, so be sure to join me on the website (link below) if you have questions.
#2: For some of you, your online business needed help yesterday, which is why I am eager to get this new group started asap. Once you join the circle, the first thing we'll do is setup a time for us to talk one-on-one about your business. Then we will get together as a group to let the new ideas in and the bad ideas go! There are currently 9 spaces left and the first group call is this coming Wednesday.
To join the Live Chat all Day Sunday, find out what is blocking your business today, and/or become one of the 10 women in my SistaSense Circle visit: http://www.sistasense.com/the-1st-conversation

I should actually say weeks because since the back to school buzz started, I’ve been having a lot of phone conversations with women who have questions about building their businesses online. Most of these women are information entrepreneurs, coaches, and consultants like myself who have information and/or services they want to sell online, but they are finding it difficult to get people to buy.
These calls got me thinking about questions that you might be having, so I put together an audio conversation for the two of us. Well me and you and the thousands of woman in my circle (lol). I couldn’t figure out a magical way to talk to all of you one-on-one SO, I thought I could at the very least create an audio conversation for you about business block, the things that are currently affecting your sales, and how you can fix them.

For this project to work, I can only do it with a small group of women, I hope you are one of them.

What Is Your Ideal College?
Can you *envision your ideal college: what it will look like, what your fellow students will be like, and the academic and social experiences you hope to have? Whether you have a crystal clear image or no idea at all, giving it some careful thought is essential.
The "Perfect" Fit
Your ideal college must be, above all else, a place where you can succeed. When students find such a place, many describe it as a school that "fits," feels like "home," or challenges them to become the person they want to be. What are the opportunities for success that might give you such feelings? The chance to earn high grades? To live in surroundings that suit you? To make lasting friendships? To earn a marketable degree? To land a good job after graduation or get into a top-notch graduate school? A combination of these?
The colleges on your final list should meet your top requirements. But keep in mind that the perfect college probably does not exist. Each college is a complex mix of qualities. Your final choice may not perfectly meet your needs, but it might be perfectly wonderful anyway.
