Now that it’s December there is going to be loads of Christmas Networking meeting to go. You have PLENTY of time to finish your shopping (or start! if you’re like me). You also have plenty of time to get ready for these networking events, the one where everyone comes all dressed up and looking great. The one that you always rush into feeling frazzled and disappointed by your outfit and your hair and your lipstick. THAT party. Here’s a thought: if you start planning NOW you won’t catch you off guard. Here are 7 simple things to do now, before the rush starts, so that you can sit back and enjoy the parties in style.Get a Smashing Speech ReadyCreate a smashing elevation speech that clearly communicates what you are looking for in a client: You gotta have something to say that will make them:1. Want to work with you2. Want to refer clients to youA smashing elevation speech is a commercial speech you would use with an ideal prospect if you only had 20 seconds to get a message across. It’s meant to describe what you do in a very short amount of time, with the objective being that this person will not only want your card, but will also want to talk to you further.Use my smashing elevation speech formula and you are good to go.I work with (insert ideal client profile) who struggles with (insert client challenges) and would like to (insert result and benefits). What separate my business from other (insert competitors) is (insert your unique selling propositions) and because of this clients receive (insert motivator and your claim).I get a lot of attention with this formula.Have a Client Attractive Business CardYour business card should be a sales tool that gets you clients. Something that someone looks at and have a very good idea about what you can do for them. Put a compelling message that gives them a reason to call you. Or perhaps you want them to visit your site or sign up for your ezine. So the idea is to get prospects to take action just with your card.Get a business card created that has your name, business name and phone number and have some pull marketing questions on the back that invites readers to consider working with you. Use your tagline too.My business card has prompted several clients to refer potential clients to me. The information on the back of my card always prospect to self-qualify themselves as to whether they will be an ideal client of mine or not. It has an invitation to call saying “Call me to share your business struggles, ask key questions, and ask about solutions, free of charge”. I get a lot of calls because of this statement. The objective of your business card is to get the ideal prospect to say “Wow, I need you!” Vistaprint.com creates nice business cards and they get them delivered within a week.Use the Ultimate IcebreakerGoing up to someone you don’t know can be quite frightening. So try going up to someone or two people that are approachable. Have a big smile on your face and extend your hands to initiate a handshake. In an upbeat voice say “Hello, I don’t we’ve met yet” My name is ... What’s yours? Believe me; people will literally thank you for making the first move. Then ask them what they do for a living. Get them talking first so that it takes the pressure off you. After a short while, they’ll ask you.Wear Clothing with PocketsWhat will you wear to all these functions? Think, in particular, about when you will be getting business cards. Have you ever given someone else’s business card to someone instead of your own? I have in the early days. (It was a little embarrassing). So I figured out a trick. Wear a jacket with 2 pockets. One for your cards and one for the cards you receive. It’s as simple as that, it’s a no brainer.Pretend It’s Your PartyAnother tactic I love using when I’m feeling overwhelmed by a room full of people is I pretend it’s my party. I’m a pretty social person and love to entertain. So when I throw a party and I see a guest that I don’t know, I just walk up to that person and say. “Hi, I’m Joyce. We haven’t met yet. What’s your name? Who did you come here with tonight” with a smile. So when I get slightly shy in a large room, I shift my thinking about the event and pretend it’s my party, then I use the ultimate ice breaker I mentioned before. It always work and ‘am never nervous.Get a Haircut, and Maybe Some Colour too.Book your hair appointment before the event, because if you do not, I guarantee that you will wake up on the morning of the event and think ‘My hair looks horrible!’ Or, even worse, you’ll see the photos after the event and wonder why no one told you that your roots were a COMPLETELY different colour from the rest of your hair.Try one new makeup trick or strategy. Smoky eye, false lashes, berry red lips — go all out this season! A new dress might not be in the budget, but I’ll bet you can do something special with your makeup, possibly without buying anything new at all. But practice now, when you’re not rushing to get out the door. Keep in mind, though, that you only want to do ONE dramatic makeup thing at a time — if you have the smoky eye, keep cheeks and lips neutral. But don’t go too dramatic, you know what I mean.Have a Manicure. If you’re really in the mood to pamper yourself this holiday season, get a manicure; in most places, a French manicure is less than $20, including a generous tip. To make your manicure last longer, choose a sheer shade that won’t show chips or dings. And make an effort to maintain your pretty hands — wear gloves, both when you’re cleaning up in the kitchen and when you’re out in the cold air, and slather on the moisturizer. So you have soft hands, no one want to feel your shaft hands~ Joyce OladipoJoyce Oladipo, The Business Growth & Marketing Mentor, is creator of the Profit Building system, the proven step-by-step program that shows you exactly how to grow your business fast without spending extra money on marketing. Are You Asking for the Business?

Meeting one-on-one with prospective clients can be an effective marketing tool, but you must do one important thing; don’t forget to ask for the business! The purpose of an in-person meeting is to establish trust, relationship and sincerity in a personal manner. As businesswomen we often enjoy the social aspect of talking with others so much that we often forget why we are meeting. To remedy this challenge, below are six ways to stay on track and get the business you deserve!1. Clarify why you’re meeting. When scheduling an appointment, make sure that the prospective client you are requesting a meeting with knows exactly why. It’s important that they don’t think they are coming to a social meeting.2. Know your prospect’s needs. If you don’t know the services or products your prospect needs, it’s important not to schedule a one-on-one meeting until you do. This should be done during the follow up call after you’ve provided information about your services/products.3. Prepare a short agenda. It’s important to maintain your focus with the help of a list of no more than 3 points you would like to share during your meeting. Writing your agenda on an index card or small notebook really can keep you on track.4. Don’t do all of the talking. Allow your prospect the opportunity to share information about their business and to ask questions they might have about your products or services.5. Ask the right questions. “How can I help you?”, “What can I do to gain your business?”, “How soon are you seeking to purchase this (name of your product)?”, “When would you like to get (name of your service) started?” Don’t allow fear to hold you back from asking for the business!.6. Save some time for socializing. Some communications experts say be polite and socialize first and ease into the sales part of your meeting. However, it can be awkward to socialize and then out of the blue break into the sales portion. By socializing last you both of you get a chance to relax and get acquainted with one another more and end the meeting in a comfortable and meaningful manner.Implement the above suggestions, ask for the business and see the difference in your one-on-one meetings!Trina NewbyWomen About Biz"If You're A Businesswoman, You Belong!"

I am writing this post over sheer concern about an alarming trend I am seeing in business start-ups today. It all starts with "The Secret," that little book that brought the Law of Attraction to the forefront (although there were many of us who were familiar with this concept going back to the 60s and even before that). Very simply, The Law of Attraction states that what you think about, you bring about or we attract into our lives that to which we give our energy, focus and attention. The result has been an explosive industry with books, tapes, courses, seminars, et al all based upon "if you wish it hard enough it can be so" and "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can." And certainly there is nothing wrong with maintaining those positive attitudes as negative thinking gets us nowhere. But there is a flip side to this. I have a friend who owns a business that is in trouble for a variety of reasons. Having been involved in several business startups that I have seen tank like a sinking ship (and having to make adjustments in my own business methodology) I am all too familiar with scenarios where a business pin prick turns into a cut and then a cut into a full-fledge hemorrhage. For sure we need to encourage each other. But when something is blatantly hemorrhaging, you almost have to hold a mirror up and say you see, your business needs triage. In fact, maybe you just need to admit it into the ICU until it can get well again. To keep encouraging someone to stay in a particular business when maybe they just need to admit that it is time to move on isn't really fair or honest with your friend or acquaintance. It doesn't matter how great your business idea is, but it requires time, money and marketing to make it work. Yeah, you can get into some network marketing companies on a shoestring, but I have seen it time and time again where a brick and mortar business owner is complaining about lack of customers and they are putting zero dollars into marketing, zero time time into networking and they expect their business to flourish. Of course, some entrepreneurs for whatever reason may hit the sweet spot right off the bat and their business takes off like gangbusters, but that isn't the norm. Most people are trying to figure out how to bring in more customers (and quickly, too) and therefore the proliferation of social network sites. Make friends and get customers. The other side of"The Secret" and all the positive thinking is what I call "The Check-in." For example, have you identified and written down all the reasons why you want to have a successful business so that you can build upon and rely upon your commitment to that decision -- especially during challenging times? Do you have a well-formulated strategic plan with objectives, goals and related actions? Do you have adequate financial reserves in place, available to invest in the growth of your company? Are you REALLY following your heart or are you too proud to admit that the business just isn't working and you would rather do something else? These are just some of the questions that any business owner should always be asking himself or herself.Know that when some of the components of your business building system are missing or not working at peak capacity you will not achieve the optimal results from your business building activities. This can manifest itself in several ways depending upon what needs fine-tuning:*Lack of focus, motivation, or confidence*A low converstion rate*Fewer new opportunities and clientsNo amount of positive thinking or over-encouraging from well-meaning friends and family will fill in your business building gaps. Even from a spiritual standpoint, God requires that we take action., e.g. "My people perish for lack of knowledge," "write the vision, make it plain."It is imperative that you do "The Check-In" or a regular basis, especially during these challenging financial times. If you would like to know more about "The Check-In" and how it can help your business I am only a phone call/e-mail away at quickcoach4u@aol.com or call 1-888-364-9529.Are your tired of coming up against brick walls? Are you tired of trying to figure it out by yourself? When will YOU do "The Check-In"?

“Why do bloggers put so much focus upon growing RSS subscriber numbers to their blog if most of them only ever read your content in Feed Readers and don’t visit your blog?”This question (or variations of it) hit my inbox 3 times in 24 hours from different people so I thought I’d tackle it as a post instead of individual replies.Let me start by saying that this problem can be frustrating. You see your RSS subscriber number growing by your actual visitor numbers remain steady - as do your comment numbers. It can actually feel like you’re wasting your time - I remember myself feeling kinda like this guy when I first noticed this happening to me: continued at the blogs listed below.

Why this Economy is exactly what you need??!!

Why this economy is just what you need?Being a winner takes practice and the only way to truly test your skills is to have some adversity.I know I know you say but Richelle, did it have to be this bad. The answer is YES. My friend Debbi Somers and I chat about this often. A little background, Debbi owns Somers Furniture which has morphed from a convention rental company to events rental, custom furniture manufacturer for all of the hot spots in Vegas. Debbi's business generates close to $5million in sales every year. Not by accident! She says, Richelle, I have had to re-invent myself 4 times in the last 19 years. There were several years that I did not take a salary in order to keep my good employees and keep cash flow going but I work better in times of struggle.Instead of taking lots of vacations, I work on the business 24/7. I am up thinking of what next. That is the piece that is missing from many of the struggling businesses right now – the What Next factor.Bill Glazer is president of Glazer Kennedy Insider’s Circle and his formula for a successful business includes the WN, which is What Next. This should be an on going process so that during times of struggle, you have a back up plan.Instead of thinking about what is wrong with the economy, your mind should shift to what is wrong with your business. Why are your customers not coming back? Why was your service the first service cut in a weak economy? What are people spending money on right now?The answer to question number 1 is usually, because you forgot to keep in touch with your customers. You only communicated with them when you got around to it and to only ask them for money. You forgot to have a real relationship with constant dialog and working together. The answer to number 2 – you took anyone who would buy, instead of focusing on clients who are more geared to the affluent who still have equity in their homes, who still have a safety net, who are not price shoppers. The answer to number 3 – the mall was full when I went to vote, with lots of bags and packages, people are buying. Marketing to the affluent is your safeguard against what is going on in this economy. They understand a bargain, they are looking for great deals. Be sure that you are able to provide them.If you are struggling to build your business, not coming up with ideas during this recession - join us in the Women of Color Coaching Program.www.womenofcolorcoach.org to download the application!

5 Things You Can Do to Increase Your Revenue ImmediatelyYou can immediately increase your revenue by creating information products. Here are some ideas:• E-books. An e-book is a digital product that people will download. The easiest way to make money from e-books is to create your e-book around what you are passionate about and market to your target market.• Teleseminars. These are also called Teleclasses and they are taught over the telephone. Teleseminars are great because they are excellent way to show that you are an expert in your industry. You can offer free teleseminars and paid teleseminars. During your free teleseminar presentations, share useful information but leave the audience wanting more. This way they will visit your website and purchase information products which will give them more information about your topic or they will sign up for your paid teleseminars in which you will share full information about your topic.Tip: The materials used during your teleseminars can be used later to create even more products such as audio files which you can burn to a CD or make available on your website for download or you can use teleseminar material and create a special report to sell on your website.• Affiliate Programs. If you have already created your own information products, why not have other people sell them for you. Set up an affiliate program and pay people commissions when they sell your product through their website, newsletter or blog. If you haven’t created your own information products yet, promote other people’s programs and make a handsome profit – sometimes as high as 40%! When you sign up for a company’s affiliate program, they provide you with the tools to advertise the product such as graphics, HTML and links.• Multimedia Products – Create large multimedia products by combining different formats of the same product. For example, when you teach a teleseminar, bundle together the teleseminar by selling its audio recording, a transcript or a workbook.• Advertising. Sell advertising on your website, blog and in your newsletter and presto – you have another income stream!Carmin Wharton is the founder of e-BlackWomenNetwork.com, a membership community designed to take businesses owned by women of color from startup to prosperity. Regardless of whether you voted Democrat or Republican in this week’s election, you’d have to agree that the political campaigns of both major parties could give us semesters worth of information about marketing. Through television ads, e-mail and viral marketing, campaign speeches and debates, the candidates aimed to sell you on their brand and ideas, hoping to seal the deal on November 4th. Here are four marketing lessons of the campaigns:1. Tell your story. The candidates gave you their personal information, and how they came to run for office. Followers responded to John McCain’s military service, Barack Obama’s family history, Sarah Palin as hockey mom, and Joe Biden riding the train to and from Washington every day. Their resumes and life stories came out early and were repeated often. In this increasingly connected world, we are learning more and more about each other. Through social networking sites, blogs and websites, you have the opportunity to tell your personal and professional story. Let your current and prospective clients know who you are and why you chose your profession or started your business. Be clear about the services you offer and those you don’t, developing your own professional platform. Just as a candidate would in a campaign ad, let them know what you do best. (See if you can do it in 30 seconds!) But most of all, let clients know how your skills and services will benefit them.2. Become the solution. Obama offered change from typical Washington politics; McCain claimed to be a maverick, breaking rank with his political party for the greater good. Marketers call this the Unique Selling Proposition: how your client’s life, business, or project will improve if they choose you. Let them know what you offer that your competition doesn’t. Differentiate your business, and when they hire you, stay true to your promise.3. Become a community organizer. Build a network of friends who believes in you and your business and will work on your behalf. Your community includes employees, colleagues, friends, and clients. Listen to their story, show them that what you have to offer is the solution to their problem (or the problem of someone they know), and they will be happy to spread your good name. As we know, word of mouth is the best form of advertising. The candidates had thousands of volunteers knocking on doors, making phone calls, attending rallies, wearing buttons and t-shirts, and posting signs.4. Tell your story to the world. In 2008, it’s so much easier. You don’t need to pay for television or radio advertising, unless that’s where your audience is. You can utilize the Internet and wireless devices to spread your story inexpensively and build relationships. Use frequent e-mails to update clients on your company’s employees, services and projects (remember to give them a way to unsubscribe). Use a blog to link to your favorite articles or post your ideas on current industry trends. And by becoming active on social networking sites, your friends and connections can link you with theirs, thereby giving you those hundreds or thousands of volunteers who will spread your name. Just think, Obama even used text messaging to announce his Vice-Presidential candidate in the middle of the night, and it made those who subscribed feel important.By studying the marketing strategies of an unrelated industry, you may discover new approaches not being used by your competition. Your best marketing ideas may come from the least likely places, even political campaigns.© Copyright – Karen A. Davis. All Rights Reserved Worldwide.
